Last night I went to the Australian launch party of the Sensation and entered a competition to win one, and today HTC messaged me and told me I won, so I won't be on the DHD section for much longer.
I've had my DHD for since it was released in the UK (roughly 7 months) and it has been the best mobile phone I have ever had.
The battery life wasn't the best to start with, but improved over time. (it can last for days, even when I'm constantly using WiFi, 3G or listening to music)
The Camera was always what I expected from a phone, and although lots of people criticized it, I thought the overall design of the phone was great. (i got used to the weight and size fairly quickly)
I know that the upgrade to a Ssensation isn't a big step, but like many people on here I always love to have the latest and greatest tech.
I'd definitely suggest the DHD to someone looking for a great Android phone with a big screen and enough features to keep you entertained.

Happy to hear you are the winner. With dual core technology, and a 1.2GHz Qualcomm processor you will not know what hit you
Congratulations for winning the competition and received the brand new Sensation. Damn you're so lucky. Anyway, its kinda bit sad for losing a dhd comrade but I'm happy for you and your new phone.
I bid you farewell my friend. :')

Sensation is definitely an upgrade. and after all its the reliable HTC.!
So jealous, both of the winning, and the upgrade. The DHD is quite possibly the best phone i've ever had, its done all i want, and sometimes more without asking
Congrats for being a winner!!

You are very lucky dude.Having a DHD and winning a Sensation is...I don't know, too much!
First off, good for you.Secondly,I don't know if there is actually something that will completely replace my DHD.I bought a Galaxy S II,but a day doesn't go by that I don't use or flash something to my DHD.As for people criticizing it,the only thing I can complain about is the camera in low light. With enough light shots were just amazing. And while others criticized the size and the weight, that's what I loved about it first.I like knowing that my phone is in my pocket and hell, the DHD did give me that.As for size?Meh,I don't actually mind.I can get a bigger one with these sausage-like fingers of mine.
Well that's the way we all will go...newer phones.
I don't see these +4" screens and +1GHz CPU's droids as mobile phones, but as
pocket computers that have the feature "phone calls".
Whish you more Good luck in the future.
Congrats bro jelous!

Well I finally decided to be brave and ordered the DHD I have spent weeks swating up on it and all though there are reports of certain issues there pretty much is with most new phones so hey. Anyway I hope I don't regret it but going from a htc magic I would say anything is better.

Totally agree. After 3 weeks of use I can say I honestly made the right choice with this phone and I too am a real phone junkie!
The speaker is the only disappointment for me also. But I love playing my music through my TV/home theatre system via DNLA !
So yeah, you made the right decision.

Congratulations on your decision to buy one of the finest handsets available today.
Apart from the great hardware spec, and high build quality, the new version of sense is hands down the most user friendly interface I have every experienced. Sense was good before but now it is even better. It really feels like htc have worked very hard to make it live up to it's name.
I have had one for exactly three hours now and enjoying it immensely. I am also enjoying the buzz of being 1337 and exclusive. These phones are normally impossible to get here in New Zealand right now and I hold one of the few in this country in my hand.
I'm going to enjoy the feeling of exclusivity while it lasts. This is the kind of phone android has been needing to take the iphone on head to head against "normal" consumers.

couldn't agree more, im new to android and i love it and the DHD ,yes there are issues(prox sensor/ youtube crash etc), but i know for a fact that if you went on the samsung page or go on the nexus2 page when its out they all will have a few issues that needed sorted
for me i love sense the fact you can have whatever widgets or apps on whatever page in what ever lay out you want is great, i got it mainly for
web browsing excellent
email and text excellent
games excellent
video play back , still trying to find a convertor that doesn't give me audio out of sync issues but ill solve this one no bother like most devices, file formats can be a nightmare
i came from a HTC TP2 which had the best keyboard of any phone but was let down as it was underpowered and had a resistive screen
Congrats
Only the speaker sound it very bad i hope HTC will set the volume higher with a update i hope so
And great phone !!
I have got mine from yesterday. Uh, time to learn bit more. After 3 years with iPhone in the pocket it will take some time to use to it.
But I am very happy with my choice.
Just checked iPhone and DHD speaker and DHD is far louder than 3GS. Maybe because it has much less bass.
I now have mine and loving every minute of it. Its a brilliant phone I don't seem to have all the troubles that most report although I have not been able to replicate lag issue I put USB debug on right away. I do think the covers are pretty shocking and they do seem to not be a perfect fit bit I have a silicone case anyway so does not bother me love this phone and can't put it down!

Both of those are downgrades, IMO. Why would you want to take a step backwards device-wise, even for a little extra money? Remorse is sure to ensue.
Vibrant is cheap plastic, and lots of issues with that phone (CPU lag, major GPS problems) and there is less developer support on XDA for Samsung phones. HD2 is old hardware, that phone was released Nov. 2009.
Check out this post by another guy that traded his G2 for the Vibrant, and totally regrets it. Don't be him.

Than try Desire HD, HD7, Evo Shift, Thunderbolt or something similar, but not outdated phones like HD2 ;-) And Samsung is not a choice at all IMO. Low quality, cheap plastic, disposable toys. They could'nt even make their own design and copy-cat'ed an iPhone.

If you like trying new phones, the HD2 doesn't qualify. Its a very old phone. 14 month old hardware may as well be 10 years in the smartphone business.
And a Android port is never going to run as well as a phone that is designed to run Android natively. So don't think that you will really have an Android phone on your hands if you buy an HD2 and flash an Android port. Old hardware that runs a very outdated OS, that also has the ability to run an Android port = not worth it.
I'm actually getting an HD2 to run Android and ditching my G2. It has the same hardware as my N1, which is running wonderfully and is a year old now, so I am not worried. I want the big screen, dual LED flash, and the Desire HD ROM. I've been waiting for T-Mo to announce a 4.3" HTC phone but who knows if it'll even happen at MWC so I am using the HD2 to hold me over until one ever comes to T-Mo.
just thought i'd let you guys know, i got the hd2 and am now running CM7 on NAND. its amazing. i love it
I had the hd2 before i got my z and it is a good phone with good support on xda. I just couldnt get used to its size. The z just "feels" better.

The Galaxy S was the first smartphone I bought and it's a great phone. Swype is one of THE best apps I've ever used and I dearly wish it was available on the Wildfire as typing this reply with a bog-standard keyboard is a major PITA.
I principally bought the Galaxy S because it was the biggest screen on the market at the time and watching videos on a small screen blows. Of course, there are now phones with bigger screens, so I've upgraded to the Nexus S. Another key factor in my upgrade decision was that Samsung took a long time to upgrade the Galaxy S from Eclair to Froyo and I didn't want to wait for them to upgrade it to Gingerbread so I bought the Nexus S. AFAIK, to date Samsung have no plans to upgrade the Galaxy S to Gingerbread.
So I suggest you factor this in to your purchase decision and try and really focus on what you're looking for in a smartphone.
I've also just discovered the world of custom ROMs so now I find I'm going to sell my Galaxy S (and possibly my Nexus S - while the secondhand prices are still high) as I'm enjoying my (small and thin) Wildfire + custom ROMs so much that I hardly ever use the other two phones.
So my advice to you is to seriously think about what it really is you like about the hardware. As the software you can change.

If I got a phone from another manufacturer I wouldn't see it being anybody but HTC, though I always keep my eyes open for what's best. (No blind loyalty here!)
That said, everything I've seen about the SGS II makes it fairly clear it's set the bar on a whole new level... so barring some amazing discoveries I'll be going the SGS II route.
'course I just got my Vibrant yesterday but I've got a fairly voracious appetite as far as my toys go.
im actually suprised to see so many vibrant owners comtemplating samsung again. Yes, I am too. But I am definitely Very Cautions with our GPS problems, crappy software, and of course the Froyo debacle....
I am considering anything as it comes. At this point, seems the Sensation and GS2 seem to be the 2 worth waiting for. just really cautions with the GS2 given the Vibrant problems
My only concern with htc is battery life. If its not horrible, the sensation is a buy. I know the tbolt and evo had issues.

HTC needs fresh design ideas, all their phones share same design.

And finally we need phones like SGS-2

I agree with htc is near garbage. Every phone is damn near the same. Ive just purchased an sgs2 from uk. Ive had the hd2, hd7, DHD, Inspire and played with evo and a couple verizon version. Build quality is great except the lcd plasitc they use. I guess im spoiled by the gorilla glass after breaking and repairing a couple hd2s.
I guess I became a music addict over the last year and htc music quality is horrible. HD7 audio was the worst. HD2 was probably the best htc phone when it comes to audio.
I buy and sell alot of phones via Craigslist and eBay. I've had my Vibrant since October and this is honestly the longest I have kept a phone in the past 3-4 years. I absolutely love the phone.
I had the using (2) MY4Gs, and HD2, HD7, myTouch slide, (2) G2's, Cliq2's, (2) Blackberry Torches, Bold 9700 and 9780 etc etc etc. the list goes on. So far, the Vibrant has by far been been my favorite phone and I have had a great experience.
HTC, IMO is shaky in terms of build quality. No doubt, I felt the HD2/HD7 felt more substantial in the hand than the Vibrant. But you can't defend the fact that the HD2 is plagued with failure rates. At least once a week, I see broken ones pop up on CL. I also loved the 4.3" screens.
I felt the MY4G was sub-par compared to my vibrant, even though I felt it was still an excellent phone.
I will most likely get the GalaxyS2 a couple months after it comes out
right now the sgs2 is the only phone i'd switch from my vibrant for. i'm not really brand loyal, but i think samsung is quickly learning that their sgs users expect os updates and you can't beat their hardware. plus samsung seems to be pretty dev friendly considering odin, how easy the sgs was to root, and how quickly they have been releasing their source.
So in light of the following news are HTC going to bring out something special or just quietly dye by the way side?
http://www.androidguys.com/2012/07/30/htc-closes-south-korea-office-due-to-slow-sales-samsung-hurting-profits/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+androidguyscom+%28AndroidGuys%29&utm_content=Google+Reader
Bear in mind the current fiasco with ICS and the Desire HD.
So are you going to jump the HTC ship?
Ya well, the one series was a miss with consumers at large ,can't imagine what would have happened if the one x for example had sd card storage and a battery access
We can only hope they die a quick but painful death.
... unless they release ics source code then i don't care what they do.

I am already planning my jump over to Samsung rightly or wrongly, but they are talking about launching JB on the S3 and even the S2 in the very near future! And from what I have seen they seem to deliver what they say!
Well I wouldn't want them to die, afterall competition is always good, however I've decided that my DHD shall be my last HTC phone after all that has happened. I'm contemplating on waiting for the next Google phone, immediate updates and a bugless AOSP experience, what else could one ask for?
That is what you get when you mess with all the HTC Desire HD owners!!! Not releasing ICS for their most sold phone and telling their costumers lies about HTC Desire HD performance. And the same with HTC Desire.

Agreed, I cant believe they would release such a retarded phone and a clear attempt to copy the iPhone business model.

They should have concentrated all efforts on savage battery life combined with expansion of mem.
That is the general consensus I am feeling form this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1396842
It’s a shame that a company with a lot of promise has now just peed of its fan base and almost washed their hand of them.
If you look at the number of ROMs in the development thread you can see that people pretty much rooted their HTC Desire HD as soon as they got them as the hardware far out preformed the software that was loaded and any potential update (although we all knew these wouldn’t come to light! lol )

Don't forget Samsung is from South Korea, so why keep spending money on SK if you know that "everyone" in SK has a Samsung phone :silly:
I hope they won't cancel the ICS update for developers. They had the same problem with Gingerbread update for the Desire.
They never released it as an OTA update, but they released it for developers.
So let's hope they do the same with Desire HD (in the future).
About One-series. It's indeed a sad story, but I think why most people didn't bought the One-phones was because most of them were probably waiting to see the Galaxy SIII and it seems that the SIII is the number one choice now for lots of Android users.
That or the New Galaxy Nexus (fingers crossed it won’t be produced by HTC) that will ruin the Nexus name IMO

Why would HTC ruin it? I like HTC's hardware
1 months ago I planned to buy the One X along with one of my best friends and I almost sell my DHD (it even already entered the "For Sale" thread in one of Indonesia's largest community forum). But after I read so much informations from early adopter of One X about how bad is the HTC's quality control over One X hardware productions I hold my decisions to upgrade because I don't wanna spend my time dealing with HTC service center.
