After T-Mobile (UK at least) totally RUINED the Diamond 2, TyTn II and other previous HTC models (and by that, i mean they physically changed the casing etc). Does anyone know if the HD2 is going to be horribly re-branded and ruined?
Appreciate any feedback
Thanks
It doesn't (fortunately) look like it. For the first time ever, when you try and select a mobile phone in the T-Mobile website, there's an option to select an HTC phone. And the HD2 shows up in that choice. So, hurraaaaah, no more magenta or proprietary widgets.
Dude, don't you worry anymore! The HTC HD2 will be the second HTC device which will not be branded by T-Mobile. First device was HTC Touch2. Is this the end of HardSPL? At least it is the end of bleeding eyes due to Magenta poisoning....
Cheers mate!!
Oh joyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!
Haha awesome, if you're both right, then i'm defo calling them up tomorrow to get a sweet upgrade deal
According to T-Mobile the demand for "original" HTC devices was overwhelming.... hence they stopped making a mess out of beautiful hard- and software. Finally.........

Damn right. I couldn't believe how cheap and nasty they made the Diamond and Diamond2 look
I've flashed the T-Mobile ROM on an HD2 and it is thankfully 95% un-modded.
There is the odd T-Mobile splurge here and there, but other than that it is very much an HTC ROM.
The same applies to the Vodafone ROM as well, come to think of it!
I was more concerned about the hardware, but it's nice to know they've cut down on the software butchering too
The have hacked it a bit, removed youtube widget and oc forced opera to start on their laughably small tmob favourites/wnw clearly sized for qv not wv. There is a tmob im prog (nasty squinting sperm as icon) which fails to load every time with an error 'Sorry there was an error pls restart'. ??
I think they may have done more wrecking, mine seems a bit jerkey/stuttery at times. I fancy a re rom but am v new - any pointers, whats's good and how to do it?
I was an owner of a t-mobile branded diamond, and tbh, it thought the t-mobile casing was a lot prettier ^^

I still have one and I totally agree. But having said that, the same does not apply to all models.
I'm planning on buying a used HD2 off craigslist and I do not expect it to come with any warranty. I read some threads about the HD2 overheating and the touchscreens dying. Is this still a big problem?
Is there a way I can tell if the phone is a newer revision with less problems?

Look at the reset button.
If it's red, you're in for some deep ****.
If it's yellow, all is clear
The ones with red reset buttons had some quality control issues.

Lol thanks. If it's NOT red are there any hardware problems at all? Does this apply to T-Mobile USA HD2's? Also, is there a way I can look up the warranty and past HTC repairs using the IMEI or serial numbers?

I wouldn't say I'm offended, but I would say that the statement is shortsighted and uneducated.
I've had my HD2 since early November 2009, when they first came out, and I'm still using the same device with NO hardware problems.
Blanket statements like that should always be utterly ignored.
Unfortunately, no-one can tell you that your device will or will not have hardware issues. Some will and some won't is the only true statement that can be made.
I haven't seen a Hd2 without a red reset button. But I have tmo. Just look it over and make sure everything works and it hasn't been abused.

Edit: I have tmo us just to clarify.

Well, you know what? Call it what you want. Be offended by it, call Tue response "shortsighted and uneducated". Whatever. I talk from experience. I had a red reset button HD2 and I had to return it not once, not twice, but FOUR TIMES. They ALL died in one way or another, be it the touchscreen, the thing not turning on, or it freezing to bloody death. The fifth time, I got a yellow reset button HD2 and I'm still using it to this day. No problems whatsoever that atlre hardware related.
(/rant over)
sorry, for jacking your thread. but, should I be worried if the void stick that covered a screw has been torn. I got it off ebay. It's working 100%, so I'm guessing it was repaired or something.

Like I said, I'm not offended by it.
You're wrong. You had hardware problems, and I feel for you, but to say that everyone with a red reset button will have problems IS "short-sighted and uneducated".
You're clearly basing your comment on your limited experiences, albeit bad (no-one is questioning that), and not the experiences of the hundreds of thousands of HD2 users.
Okay, the phrase "short-sighted and uneducated" will cause offense, but it was not intended to do so. It's just how your post comes across.
Nonetheless, my post still stands and I still think you're talking from a limited and biased point of view that will not get backed up by many other users.
Hmm strange as far I can have information from htc have only the htc HD2 T-Mous devices the yellow reset button and the regular HD2 a red button.
If I follow the logical here this would mean that 75% of the HD2 Devices ar bad? hmm not convinced.

There were different "series" of TMOUS HD2s. AFAIK the early ones had yellow buttons and later ones had red buttons - I could be wrong about that though.
Some information I gathered on the yellow/red button thing. So it isn't just me I see.
sirphunkee said:
Nope, those are the only two versions you'll find. The initial red-buttoned batch ran out very shortly after you bought yours, and the ones with the yellow have been around ever since. There's not any conclusive evidence, but it's generally accepted that the ones with the red button seem to have a higher occurence of mysterious misbehavior. The only suggestion I have is to make sure you're at least running the updated T-Mobile ROM...your brother might have gotten it on his phone from the factory, but yours wouldn't have it by default.

But a month later after i bought mines , my brother bought his . I look at the reset button on both of ours and i see that mines is red and his is yellow! I was wondering what exactly could that mean because my phone freezes way much more than his! And if anyone might have any information if there happens to be a different color reset button like green for example . Thanks for all the support by the way, very helpful .

Q1-I JUST GOT A NEW HD2, AND MY RESET BUTTON IS A DIFFERENT COLOR!!!
A-Yep, hopefully it's yellow. The reset button is widely believed to be a hardware revision giveaway, IE, depending on the color is what revision of the device you have. So far 2 different colors are in circulation that we know of, those being RED and YELLOW. The HD2's that have red reset buttons seem to be revision ones, or based off of the Euro hardware, and seem to be more flaky when it comes to touchscreen quality and overall stability. For whatever reason, HD2's with red buttons seem to have touchscreens, mainly the digitizers that are more prone to failure. The second revision HD2's seem to all have yellow reset buttons and as far as we know these are the only ones being produced as of late. Yellow button models seem to be more stable hardware wise, and use a completely different motherboard and touchscreen/digitizer assembly.

Anyway I'm not surprized I bought it end of 2009... so now I will have hardware issues...
I bough the HD when launched, the HD2 when launched... none has never have an issue. It's difficult to predict hardware failure.
It's always possible, it's just a question of luck. HD2 has been launched for a long time now. It's a good and reliable device. There's not a lot of complains, that's a good proof!
Anyway, as with everything you may have problems. That's why warranty was invented.

And all you have proven is nothing.
You have one quote saying the person bought a 'yellow' a month before a 'red' and another saying that the 'reds' were the 1st version and 'yellows' were 2nd editions. Technically the TMOUS phones are all at least 2nd gereation HD2, because the European HD2 (with the lower memory) was the 1st generation model.
A quote saying someone guessed that 'yellows' were better.
Just for a bit of research, I flipped a £1 coin ten times and it landed 8 times on tails and a £2 ten times at it landed only 3 times on tails. Therefore my advice to anyone flipping a coin: if the coin is a £1 then shout 'tails' and if the coin is a £2 then shout 'heads'. I am informed that the £1 coin was developed before the £2 coin.
This research has been funded by those good folk at Acme.

I didn't start the game with an unproven statement.
However it would be interesting to see if there was an actual hardware problem with the red button compared to the yellow button 1024LEO. Something along the lines of:
Do you have, or have you had, a HD2 (1024MB ROM) and has met one of the four conditions:
It has a Yellow reset button and has no hardware faults.
It has a Yellow reset button and has had hardware faults.
It ihas a Red reset button and has no hardware faults.

Like conantroutman said above if you have T-Mobile in silver right below the speacker for your ear at the top of your HD2 and it has a green send/answer button and a red end/power button then it is a TMOUS HD2
From the description you given on the ROM you flashed it has the radio version 2.06.51.7 and this is not a radio version compatible with the TMOUS HD2's. If you do have a TMOUS HD2 then sorry to tell you but yes your HD2 is bricked, dead, done. The only hope you might have is JTAG. Type something like "JTAG for HTC HD2" into Google and the search bar on YouTube. Maybe you can resereck your HD2. If it is still under warranty you can try to do a warranty replacement or see if they will do a warranty repair. This is very much correct but also do not flash a radio with 2.04.50.x's or 2.05.50.x's. These Radio verson were used on the TMOUS text divic es but they were still used on regular HD2's. So they are lethal to TMOUS HD2's also.

i flashed the unbranded rom.
now the phone no longer turns on.
I really hope i didn't break it permanently.
If i hold the vol down button and power button, nothing happens.
if i plug it in, nothing happens.
please. My employment is solely through my phone (service rep).
Sorry to tell you but you flashed a 2.05.51.05 radio to. T-Mobile HD2 and a 51 radio bricks a T-Mobile HD2. The only way to fix it is to use a JTAG and a Riffbox on it. Do you live in the US?
its not a tmobile hd2 its a European hd2.
Are you sure it is a EU HD2 cause that shouldn't have bricked a EU HD2, but it will instantly kill a TMOUS. Is all of your buttons white, you don't have a green send button and a red end button?
there is no tmobile version of the hd2 with only 512mb of rom.
buttons are white, not colored. and not illuminated in any way.
Sorry just had to check to make sure. This is odd to me I do not know why that ROM would have bricked your HD2. Your HD2 didn't turn off or come unplugged or anything like that during the flash did it? Also did the progress meter on your computer and the HD2 go all the way to 100% and then your HD2 rebooted it self?
I am truly lost to why your HD2 is dead now. How about it guys anybody else out there know.

I am looking at the starring at the ROM in your first post and I do not see anything that would have causedcthos in the ROM name. Just out of curiosity where did you get the HD2 you have cause I am kinda wondering if you have a test T-Mobile HD2. It doesn't have like some writting on the back battery cover does it? I can not remember off the top of my head what it said but I am not talking about the HTC on the cover. You see the T-Mobile test devices were just like EU HD2s as far a ram and flash size. Also the test devices looked just like regular EU HD2s.
Ok go to this thread and tell me if your HD2 looks like the one in the picture. Also if you look atcthe list of test ROMs senior member xmoo has the ROM you flashed is the next to last ROM. So I think you flashed a T-Mobile test ROM to your HD2. And I think the test ROMs were only meant to be run on the test devices. Here is the link to the thread.

Yeah feel free to contact me if you need to. Twenty bucks is cheap, about thirty bucks cheaper than the Guy I know but the Guy I know is a complete professional too. He does cell phone repair for a living. I hope the Guy you found on criegs list knows what he is doing as the HD2 is not an easy device to work on. And to JTAG it he will havecto remove the intior main board from the phone.
Knowing now that you have a HTC Pro Three I still say the radio is what bricked your HD2. Cause I think that even though the radios used in the HTC Pro Three's were x.xx.50.xx radios, and they will brick a TMOUS.HD2. I do not think they used any x.xx.51.xx radios in them as a 51 radio will brick a regular and test TMOUS HD2. You must have got that ROM from HTC as I think the ROM version is a ROM version for the EU HD2s but they have the 51 radio where the ROM for the HTC Pro Three have a 50 radio. Best of luck and let me know if I can help any further, sorry for your bad luck.

Only the American one (green send key red end key) can be bricked like that. All others are just normal HD2 (all buttons are white), so If yours wasnt American, that's not the problem. You know if hspl is still on the phone the warranty is invalid, right?

It's second handed. Hmmmm intresting.... I don't believe that it was from the USA...
Then it's not a problem with the rom, if it just wouldn't power on then it's more likely that it's either a really flat battery or a bent battery pin.

ah right, well yes its dead then, lol. you confused me by using phrases like tmode and tmouk, , all t-mo phones are just normal, regular hd2, , same as any other hd2, EXCEPT the US one, which yours is, cos only the US one has coloured keys.
