They've unlocked it but the only people that can are the ones using setool. Atleast that's how it looked to me on their forum

they have sim unlocked it, but from one I've seen not a single person has bootloader unlocked yet
it's a bunch of BS, super-dev's who don't know the difference between sim and bootloader.
No, they did. But they don't release it to the public since the current method will unlock everything. But they already have sim unlocking service for 30 dollars. So they want to separate it. Its for the money I guess. And no, SETool is not affiliated with maxrfon and his team. From what I understand though.

Like I said, thats how it looked to me. I don't know exactly for sure. Just what I seen from here
the_laser has released sim unlocking for free
Now I am confused?????? laser did what he said and maxrfon gave us nothing
Now is it maxrfon coming out with bootloader unlocking method or we all need to apologise the_laser and ask him to work with Z to make it happen....?????
I dont see any news on the laser posting anything about simunlock for free... where is that?
the_laser has come up with sim unlocking for his SE tool for free...( he did what he said)
Now please can anyone clarify what maxrfon is upto??? he didnot give us the method of bootloader unlock and moreover he has insulted Laser...
What is next for us... ??? An apology to laser and Z to continue their work OR ask maxrfon to release method
Link to lasers page
Its only for SE tools...(not for all, only for community members)
Apology to Laser and Z AND ask maxrfon to release method.
Let us not be children.Whoever founds out,how to unlock bootloader, lets release it.
No dissing to nobody.
Please tell us how Max
I was there, and is not free... you need to pay to use their tool...
noob question....What is the use of sim unlocking...???
Phones that are not bought on contract can use SIM from any operator. SIM unlocking means making the phone work with SIM from any operator.

Yes like I said on the page before, sim unlocking not bootloader unlocking. You guys are too gullible...
Have you seen any proof of even one bootloader unlocked phone?

The bootloader must of been unlocked at some level by both groups, as they offer the direct sim unlock service, which i have used myself and does work. But as for a fully unlocked bootloader who knows if we will ever get it.

Does anyone know where if there is a free or cheap way to do it?
Thanks in advance.
Can't unlock for free. Someone else can recommend you a place as I haven't bothered.
no free way, unless you call tmobile and get them to unlock it.
the way ive unlocked 2 heros is by using express-codes on ebay.

No, unlock is permanent.
Im currently locked to orange but have also purchased a code from the link above but aside from the being able obviously use different sims are there any other advantages to unlocking ?
Reason I ask is because im pretty sure that when I first rooted and loaded a custom rom I used an orange specific radio.....but more recent threads suggest radios are region rather than network specific....
I dont currently have any issues being locked so want to be sure there will be no adverse effects from the unlock.....
Cheers

No other unlocking advantages AFAIK, although orange uk is known to have issues on some of the radios if locked (to be fair, I think it happened only once or twice).
But I think that is all over. Radios are region/hardware defined, not network defined. Unlocking doesn't cause issues. In fact, unlocking was the way to use the "non orange" radio most recently on an orange phone.

This being a community of highly skilled devs, surely someone can figure out how we can unlock our phones without having to pay for the 'privilege'?
Even the guys we are buying the codes from must have figured something out or are buying the codes from elsewhere?
How exactly does this work? Where do you enter the unlock code?
I thought once you install custom firmware you phone will be unlocked...

They are buying their codes direct from HTC. And a method of unlocking for free is known, but it needs done before every boot, so it's not usable, as it needs a PC and home-made serial terminal cable to send AT commands to the radio chip IIRC.
The radio requires the code to allow access, and the codes are randomly assigned/generated, so there's no algorithm to reverse engineer.
You insert a SIM that your phone won't accept, and then you get asked for the unlock code at boot, just like entering your SIM PIN.
And at £6.75 for an unlock code, I'm not gonna spend hours on looking for a method I'm afraid, since I can't justify the time to myself.

dont see how this place having devs means that you get to unlock your phone for free. this place is for rom development mainly, if you want methods on how to unlock, there are forums like gsmhosting that deal with that.
the guys that sell the codes online havent "figured something out". they are providing a service which they also pay for, they are basically middle men. i suggest you research how unlocking via code works.
to unlock via code, you put in a sim that isnt allowed, eg a tmobile sim into an orange locked phone, then itll tell you "sim restricted" or thereabouts, and ask for the code. thats where you enter it.
custom firmware has nothing to do with unlocking, although in certain cases (eg orange firmware) custom roms or downgrading is required to unlock the phone.
still doesnt mean that custom roms actually unlock the phone.

if you had a look at his negative feedback, most of them had follow up comments by him which were removed by ebay. i managed to see one or two of them before they got removed, and they were basically things like "your wifes using the phone as a replacement for you lol", things like that. nearly all of his neg feedback had follow up comments removed.
was quite funny, but i think that it may be because of those comments that hes no longer registered. only a hunch mind you.

AT&T version (r800at) is fine I've got it, I wouldn't buy the Verizon version (r800x) because thry haven't released any source for it so development it's really rough. I'd recommend getting your bootloader unlocked to flash cm 7.1 or another ROM and dooms kernel. With the r800i, r800a, and r800at being the exact same hardware all the firmwares and updates work across all of them.

zergrush for root, get theme files for ICS theme, push through adb, install launcher with ICS theme
Check the development and theme/app sections, there are some easy to find threads in both that will prove useful to you.

There is no way to unlock your bootloader without paying. The only two tools able to do it is. Omnius and SETool. Both of these applications require "credits" to perform an unlock!
Then I shall instead of paying even more to enjoy this phone I am just going to sell it it lags and I fiured I'd get a rom and a kernal to oc and fix the lag but I already spent 425 on it and its not worth it to put anymore into it.... it was a dud I may come back whenever the duo comes out... and there were many of people on here posting about the Ericsson website being able to worth and a lot of people said it did and I even seen a video of it working on the arc

Then you should of researched your purchase beforehand. Then you would know only sim free, unbranded factory unlocked plays can get the bootloader unlocked from the sony website. This is because unlocking the bootloader removes all security from the phone including sim lock. If sony offered this to sim locked devices, it would make network providers very unhappy.

If people can use xda to complain about a phone, why can't they use it to research beforehand? Don't whine just because you were ignorant and chose to spend money on something you hadn't read up on.

How did you unlock your bootloader? I currently have a R800x and I'm getting a R800at today or tomorrow but I read somewhere that the R800at can't be unlocked for free. I unlocked my R800x using sony's website just fine.. Is it the same or will I have to pay someone to unlock it for me? The SIM is already unlocked. And I'm sorry if this question is a little old.

And fastboot recognizes our phone. It's kinda like we're missing something.
It's like those ****ers at Verizon are teasing us.
And does the D2 method work on this?
yep they are hell we can root it but can not install cm7. the roms we can install i dont thank are that good every one i ask online says cm7 is the best but i am hoping that they will make one we can flash with out having the bootloader unlocked because us R800X users can not do that (with out paying and thats something im not going to do)
what we need are more roms that are good and work with out haveing are bootloader unlocked i got the phone because i was thinking it was fun and it is and i was thinking i was going to be puting cm7 or ICS OS will i can not do ether of them and as of right now it sucks haveing the R800X i hope i can get something like a ICS like CM9 or at lest CM7 ya know

This thread is pointless.
What no one understands is that the Xperia line is not like other phones.
Kernels will NEVER be able to be flashed via CWM on this phone.
Xperias do not have a boot portion onboard the system
To install ROMs like CM7, you MUST install a different kernel.
Sure, no one likes to pay.
But what other options do you have?
You can unlock by paying now, or you can try to wait it out
A free method will never come again.

Couldnt agree more. This will be a never ending debate. Anyone with a locked bootloader has (2) options .. a) Unlock your Bootloader .. b) Take the time to Learn how to develop a rom that you would like for your locked down phone.
Plus we're on Verizon, did you really think they would make it easy for ya?
Point of this thread was to discuss how Verizon gave us 99% of what we need,( fastboot and root) then tease us by not giving us the other 1%( IMEI or free way to unlock )

... you know imei is the identifier for GSM phones, so there is no way any phone that is built for CDMA networks will have an imei, correct? ...
Oh, and Verizon has done their best to deny root (2.3.2 blocked gingerbreak, the old way to root. Zergrush was developed after 2.3.3 was released)
We didn't actually have fastboot enabled, on a stock phone.
So, actually Verizon did their very best to lock down the phone, and only due to the awesomeness of developers and unlockers on XDA, do we have the any freedom at all.

While that may be your intent. This statement makes clear that you don't even understand the situation. Until you, and anyone else who would make a thread like this, either decides to read more (or quit posting) we will continue to have unproductive threads like this. Though I don't suppose you consider this unproductive...and THAT is the real problem here.
Let me make one thing clear for you. Verizon, gave you nothing. You sir, or whomever pays your cell bill are paying for quite a bit. But not on that list is the freedom to do what you will with your phone.

Yeah, I'm living it. I feel like it's a tease just for this reason. I look around here, knowing that I'm not going to *be able* to pay to unlock my bootloader, as I'm unemployed and in High School, I find some cool threads involving the R800x. I forget about needing a different kernel, and the developer doesn't thoroughly explain it enough to the point where I have to find that out the hard way.
Then I find some new customization apps, like maybe a new launcher and other stuff and realize that not having a custom ROM isn't all that bad, especially since R800x came with pure Vanilla Android, with customization at it's best. I eventually get bored with the setup on my phone after noticing some new features that are only available on custom ROMs, most commonly Theme Chooser with CyanogenMod, or MIUI in general, then the cycle repeats. I just can't learn... Silly me!
i just think the R800x should be able to unlock there bootloaders for free just like the other xperia plays because im just like the one guy that posted i dont have the money to pay to unlock my boot loader. it sucks being stuck using the 2.3.3 update win others get to use the cm7 with the 2.3.7 update it sucks for us it sucks bad

Can't say I'm suprised in the least. It's supposed to be Tmobile exclusive flag ship. That said it's not the first locked bootloader the world has seen. Is just a matter of time before someone figures out a workaround.

Maybe we can put the TMOUS firmware on a C6906.

Reasons I waited for T-Mobile is WiFi calling and it has all the bands for their network. I just hope we can obtained root soon, can't live without it.

On locked bootloader should be no problem, the root come soon. Someone just complain because of permanently locked bootloader and no custom kernels for them.
Is there or will there be any way to root without unlocking the bootloader? I dont really care about flashing the rom but rooting is a whole different story for me :/
Agreed. Rooting is essential at the very least.
Sony and T-Mobile need to realize that people who purchase this device are very discerning consumers and tech users. We didn't just settle for the s4.
We chose this device for superior styling, specs, and build quality. And i hope i speak for others too when i say that i jumped to T-Mobile (despite concerns of service quality) because i was tired of the service i was receiving from my old carrier. I am thus far very pleased.
John Legere claims that all his grand ideas were the result of listening to customers carrier woes. Honestly he is the reason i switched. Not because i think T-Mobile will be the best carrier, but because i think he can/will change the industry and that deserves a little faith. Well i think it's time for John to have a little faith in us.

Honestly we should write a letter to Mr Legere with attached signatures from users of all android devices petitioning for the unlocking of bootloaders on all currently supported and future handsets.
Am i correct in assuming this does not affect sim unlock? Hell they could require that the handset be paid off or that the user be enrolled in the jump program (insured).
We need to show manufacturers and carriers how big the Android modding community is and let them see that this community is the future of android and all mobile device development.

Yes, Z1 can be rooted with Locked Bootloader so Z1s will be too, give them some time.

Has there been much dev progress here? As soon as someone dumps a FTF, C6906s can start flashing them and seeing what breaks. I have an AT&T sim card, though, so I can't really help. I ended up with a Telus C6906 anyway, so it's locked BL.

Honestly, I don't think they want to win the "discerning and technical" crowd so much as they just want a big market share. The portion of the marketshare who cares about root/unlock BL/customization is not big enough for them to fight carriers and keep the product financially viable. The carriers are going to push way more sales volume than Sony could on their own, so Sony has to appease them. If it wanted to, maybe Sony could become the Tesla of handsets (distribution without dealerships), but there's no precedent or market case for all that leg work.
Never get a phone without permission to unlock bootloader guys
if u want a cheap phone, just get parallel version

It's locked permanently or can be unlocked?
Technically, "carrier bootloader locked." As in, "bootloader unlock allowed: no". The official unlock procedure doesn't work, obviously, but I'm confident that this is possible to reverse.
I've been doing some research on how to bypass this (talking to Sony dev, reviewing how it was done on the Z), but haven't had much time since the holidays to actually hack the hardware yet.
Never huge fan of Sony, I only purchased this cause its water resistance. After seeing how easy it is to brick this device, i wouldn't even try to unlock BL even if it's unlockable. But really wants root though.

Not sure if this will work with the Z1, mines already unlocked so can't find out. From the pictures, it looks like it just uses the same method of unlocking the bootloader that we use, but just automated instead?????

just thought I'd share, if it hasn't already been shared.
The link do not work. BTW, who cares if there is an Official way to do it?
I will not recommended to use it even if it work as this kingo and company are not very safe.
I was just sharing incase there were people who are lazy enough to want a one click bootloader unlocker...or in this case it looks like 2-3 clicks? If it really is easier than the official way then why not?
I do not know anything about kingo, just happened to stumble upon it. Maybe it's spam/malware?

Kingo Root was already found to be sending your phone's IMEI number to a server in China. So why in the world would you even consider using this? Especially when Sony themselves provide you with a very easy way of doing it and complete instructions. I guess if you're lazy enough to not care about the potential security risk just to save a few clicks, then you deserve your IMEI to be stolen....

I would be wary of any one click solution like this.
In the past kingo has been identified with malware, but it cleaned its act up a bit.
The official way is so easy, and the use of flashtool is as well (And that is 100% trusted)
Unofficial unlock
I'm very interested in unofficial bootloader unlock since there is no way to unlock most branded phones like my EU Vodafone version. I don't understand why Sony is doing this and why they refuse to unlock it even if I want to pay for the unlock.
I see that Kingo is also using official method so it is useless to me
