new need advice/help - Droid X General

ok so i got the droid x yesterday from a friend and i rooted it and everythin im a big star wars fan and was wondering how i could get the r2 d2 on my droid like a whole rom of r2 d2?

I don't think Kenny Baker is going to climb into your DX...

I don't think there is a port of that rom for DX, but you can get the notification sounds from it pretty easily. see > http://androidforums.com/droid-x-all-things-root/191416-r2d2-ringtones-notifications-such.html#post1692934
For the boot animation you can try this > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=8086255#post8086255
I have not flashed this one myself but it may be worth a shot

[Q] Unlock slider lag?

I've found a handfull of issues with this int he DX stuff but nothing real substantial or conclusive in the d2 forums i've looked at. The only complaint i've had with this phone is the unlock slider is choppy as hell. I remember seeing somewhere that someone modified something in the build.prop to alleviate this however I have been unable to find that thread. I've noticed it on every rom ive run, fission 2.2.2, epic 2.0, 2.5.
What am i missing!?!?!? lol.
Thanks in advance.

Check out the Apex rom thats been ported over from DX. I know exactly what your talkin about with the slider, but the rom has an awesome animation when you unlock and it better than any rom ive run before. Plus, its just a great rom
You're not missing anything, really; it's just an unfortunate but minor characteristic of the D2 slider. I have also run several different ROMs with no change, so it must be inherent to the D2 system itself.
Dammit jim!
I am liking fission a little too much to give it up atm lol.

And, just to see what would happen, I flashed 2 DX roms on my d2 yesterday. Not only did they flash, but they were, ummm, id say 90% functional. The slider on those roms are faster and smoother than any on D2 roms. So they will get better in time. The slider and the haptic feeback on the capacitive buttons are the 2 things I dislike the most about my D2
Widgetlocker
Spend 2 dollars on the widgetlocker app. You will never have another issue with lockscreen sliders
This doesn't eliminate the issue, but it greatly reduces it. The Squidly 2.3.20 ROM with the "hapticless" add-on (i.e. zip file) did the trick for me. I've been using it for months now. I'ved tried other ROMs but keep coming back to this. Links below (or if I can't post them you need to google; they are on droidforums net).
It looks like squidly is up to 2.3.20.1 but I've only tested hapticless (or nohaptic) on 2.3.20.
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/squidlymandingo/95156-hapticless-d2-regular-bottom-lock-bar.html
I have Fission 2.3 and at first I noticed some slider lag when unlocking until I ran the overclocking 1200 mhz @ 58v script in the rom manager and sure enough the lag went away. I'd suggest doing this if you wanted to keep the Fission rom.
EDIT: Nevermind sorry saw that you were OC'ed already in your sig haha, my bad. Just thought it may help.

[Q] Best Droid x Rom

What is the best droid x rom currently available, because with the 2.3.340 update there has been some great roms and updates being released such as ape x 1.3, and fission 2.4.3. So i was just wondering out of every rom available what should i download. I am looking for something stable, has good battery life, and decent performance
P.S. Don't be bias

<nonbiased statement>
I don't currently run any custom ROM, but I would probably say, try out Apex, Fission, and GummyJar. Those are the top 3 right now. At that point, it's up to you on how you like the feel of each... I think GummyJar has a new version that just came out, and is supposed to do really well in terms of performance...
</nonbiased statement>
^^ sorry for the stupid tags...been working with xml all day at work...and now at home... had to throw it in there...
+1 for GummyJAR
the fastest rom is the one you overclock and the one with best battery life is the one you underclock. i really like gummy though pretty good rom
Also keep an eye on Obsidian. This is from wiki.ccroms.net I believe.
This is a completely AOSP (minus moto kernal :weep build. right now there are some issues with camera and gps, and some reports of battery drain. But when this is all fixed, it should be the best ROM out there!
I use gummJAR v2.5. The best rom for you is what is dependent on your likes. If you like blur elements then apex or dark slide are the way to go. If you want blurless then focused, gummy, or fission. Battery life and speed are subjective and can't be truly measured. If a rom gives me great battery life, that doesn't mean it will for you too.
So what's the difference between Gummy and Fission? I'm currently running a version of ZapX that I want to get rid of. I'd like to have the most recent update as well.
How do both roms perform in terms of GPS? Of my friends with the X, my GPS fails miserably...
ROMs are a matter of personal taste, but after struggling with random reboots on TranQ I've settled on Gummy Jar. If you don't like blur, you'll find GJ 2.5 is smooth and stable. I can't compare it to Fission though, which gets similar kudos. The beauty of the Nandroid is you can try them all without too much trouble.
To do a fair comparison, I recommend SBFing first (if you haven't done so in a while). Then make a Nandroid of your clean set up so you can install each ROM fresh. If you like a ROM, make a Nandroid of it before going back and trying another.
Gummyjar if i can remember is completely aosp.
it also boots faster than any rom ive ever used.
if you dont use gummyjar, go with fission
I've been using GummyJar and I think I'm about to give Fission a try. Would rather see what else is out there.
+1 for GummyJAR if you want blurless but if want blur, try FlyX Bazinga 2.4. I uses it for a while and had almost NO issues. I did have an issue just for 1 day where it rebooted few times by it self but it was just for that day. Don't know what casued it but that was the only time. It never happened again. Its very stable and fast rom. I currently use GummyJAR2.5.
I agree with all those who support gummyjar 2.5. Been uaing it now, and have not had a SINGLE reboot. If u do want blur, I think there is a new rom called fusion that is being released. Its fission with blur aspects added back in.

I have been using Gummy Jar 2.1 since before Christmas and love it so far. It has considerably sped up my phone. I designed a custom theme and basically have 3 homescreens covered in widgets, so I need a light, quick ROM. This one does the trick. I have had a few restarts, but hey, I had those on stock also...
Edit: Switched to Liberty 1.0 a little while ago and it blew my mind. Definitely my recommendation now.
i used fission, tranquility, apex, and gummyjar.
tranquility boot looped constantly for me, so that one was out. coulda been just me, who knows..
i am not sure what i didnt like about apex...
fission and gummyjar were both good and i knew i wanted to use one of those.
for the last week i have been running gummyjar, seems very stable and is lightning fast. i just started doing roms in the past 10 days, and i do not see myself changing from gummy right now. my girlfriend has a stock dx and my dx is so much faster and she still gets random reboots occasionally. i, however, do not
Rubix??? cant belive nobody has said this its probably the most popular rom, at least on the droid forums it is. The latest build uses gummyjar as a base so you get all the great speed and aospiness from gummyjar plus all the crazy tweaks of rubix for insane battery life, i havn't once needed to charge other then over night and i'm a very heavy user. I do have the extended battery though
I've tried all the rims you've posted and always go back to Fission. I really wanted to like gummy but it seemed inconsistant to me.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
If I download gummyjar, it asks if I want to wipe cache/data? Should I before install?I did a back up
This is also using rom manager app.

Yes. Make sure to wipe data and cache.
So I will have to start adding widgets, wallpapers, market items back? I use launcher pro is this an issue?

New to droid X and Wanna root....HELP!

I have had probably 8-12 Android handsets. I recently switched to an iPhone from my EVO and I hated my iPhone. I wanted to go with something pretty similar to my EVO so I checked out the screen, specs, user reviews, etc. The Droid X sounded great, but since having it, it locks up, freezes, and Lags like a G1. This NOTHING like my EVO and is disappointing to say the least.
I'm really hoping that a custom ROM can speed up the interface and possibly help with the battery life. Any recommendations? I don't want to theme, or skin...no interest in changing the bootlogo, etc... I just want a nice and FAST phone.
I use a lot of apps...I DON'T let any apps refresh automatically though. I also use Launcher Pro. Thanks in advance.
(Please don't tell me to read the sticky. I have. I need some real life experienced reviews....maybe people who have had an EVO or who understand what I want. Thanks)

LMFAO, i wrote the sticky, which has instructions on how to root and while I havent had the time to update everything I did cover some ROMs which include what you have asked for, so not quite sure what else you could be looking for.... But if you really want an explanation:
Root the phone using z4root and then try out a ROM like Rubix Focused 2.0.1. Drod2169 built the ROM and I am currently using it. The interface is very quick and responsive. He has added in multiple governor settings for overclock which include a conservative governor to allow for better battery life. You can use apps like Droid Overclock (jrummy16) and setCPU to change these governor settings as well. Rubix does very well when overclocked if that is something you are interested in.
If you are looking for a ROM that still has some Blur components in it, then try out Apex 1.4.1 or Rubix 2.0 Blurry. Both are very responsive and have some of the blur that certain people out there are looking for. Last but not least, it seems a great majority of people like Liberty 1.5. I used the ROM for quite some time, and it is very responsive, but a lot of people seem to have issues with lag or reboots. I never had this issue, so I can't quite speak to that issue...
ROM's are really more of a matter of personal choice. Try out a few and see what you like.
As far as a comparison to the EVO... my roommate has one, and 2 of my other best friends have one. I have done MULTIPLE benchmarking tools on their phones to compare against my X (on multiple ROMs). None of their tests have beat mine... In my opinion, the only differences between the EVO and the X is this:
1) Evo has unlocked Bootloader to allow custom kernels so you can run ROMS like CynanogenMod (but given time, CVPCS is compiling CM for the X)
2) Evo has front facing camera for those who can't wait to talk to people via a webcam.
3) Evo has a slightly quicker GPU (graphics processing unit) than the X, but winds up limited to 30FPS for the most part. Some of the benchmarks I have seen on the X jump it up to 62FPS on tests I have run.
4) Evo runs sense from HTC. If you want a "Sense" feel... some have made themes that look just like Sense....but you said you don't want a theme.
That's about it...

The sticky is EPIC...honestly, it's just data and info. I guess I am looking more for opinions. Thank you for the insight.
I had an EVO and that thing had not once, ever, locked up or froze. 2nd day on my Droid X after a hard reset and it is SO laggy.
Unlock screen even lags to get to home. IDK.... I def don't want the "blurware", but the benchmarks on this phone are impressive. It's response and use have not been, in my opinion.
My wife has the Samsung Vibrant and the specs are amazing for that phone too, but NEVER have I seen a phone lock up and freeze so much. She gave her old G1 to my mom and it's like they run at about the same speed.
I'm real tech savy, a huge phone nerd, etc....I just really didn't like my iPhone. I use Apple products for everything else as I am an audio engineer by profession, but the iPhone was SO limited. I had to hack the crap out of it to get basic things that are available on freebie candybar phones.
One thing I have noticed is that it seems to build my photo cache REALLY slow. Now... I have 14 GBs of photo/video on their, but everytime I open a gallery it takes forever to load. It is getting better about this, slowly but surely....do you think my unit is defective, I am expecting too much, or the more I play with it and let it buld a good cache, etc, it will run better?
Thanks for responding, and THANK YOU for the sticky... If I decide to root that thing will be a lifesaver!

I think the type of sdcard you have also makes a difference. If you have a new class 6 card instead of what the phone comes with (I think it is like class 2 or 3) then the read/write speed should be a lot better. I have been using the latest Rubix ROM for about 2 weeks now, and I don't experience any lag or reboots/freezing. I really like this ROM, and actually talk to Drod2169 (the developer) a decent amount. I would take a look at Rubix or Fission 2.5.7 as these are both blur-free ROM's.
I am also a huge tech nerd/geek. I have tweaked the crap out of my X. I have probably tried every ROM/theme there is for this thing, and right now I'm sitting solid on Rubix. I also used Darkslide 4.2 Blurless for a while. It is a ROM built by BBCrackman and some others over at mydroidworld. I would suggest trying Darkslide out. It is pre-themed by the makers of the ROM but I think it has been the most reliable and snappy ROM I have used besides Rubix 2.0.
If you have questions, shoot them at me in here, or hit me up on gchat.

Adventures in Rooting

Wanted to start a place for people to share their experiences while rooting and flashing on their phones. I am sure a lot of us have similar experiences and can glean from mistakes and victories we have made. Also, need to get my stats up...
I knew about root before I even had my Evo, so I started reading up on it early. I didn't think I wanted to go through with it at first, seeing the risks involved and not knowing all the possiblilities. Then just decided one day, "why not," besides I could show off for my friends who also have Evo's.
At first, my knowledge being limited, I just got the Wifi tether to try it out. Not so much fun without anything to tether, and besides I already have wireless in my house... So next was the apps in market, Root tools and couple others that are basically the same that do fonts and bootanimations.
Of course this wasn't enough for me so I started researching ROM's I ended up choosing Warm Z first, and it was a bit glitchy for me. I decided to check out Warm twopointtwo RLS5, and loved it! Dark colors, themed and slight differences from stock that made me stand apart.
Well of course there is a whole world out there in the way of ROM's so I started digging more. UNleashed stuck out to me because it is designed for speed and it is dark themed. Again, loved it! So I played around for a bit and started adding some of the custom mod's, like the rosie's and transparent title bar, and liked it even more.
Recently, I decided to check into overclocking my CPU and thought that I would try Warm Z again now that I could get more speed. It ran well but I think I messed with too much stuff and it started to fall apart. The browser got all whacky and stuff started to Force Close. DELETED....
I am now in the process of flashing King's Z Unleashed, I think I will like it especially with the Netarchy kernel.
it started when sprint added just way to many bloatware on my phone with the last ota. so i rooted and i have never been more happy with my phone. for me when i rooted i kept with sense based roms. I started out with myn's 2.2 then i fell in love with mikfroyo 4+ roms. i did try a few aosp roms but always went back to mikfroyo. i have finally crossed over to the aosp side. i'm in love with kings gb cm7. if i do go back to sense it will have to be between mikfroyo or kings sense roms.
i have been rooted for 2 months now but i have tried learning as much as i can in the process, my first rom azrael(love) stable as it gets, the cyan(not really for me), then VP(love) great options, any how i have been trying to learn how to cook my own rom, and i have already gotten the IM GONNA BREAK THAT PHONE IF YOU DON'T PAY ATTENTION TO ME by my wife, since when im at work im readin the forums, and when im at home im like 5 hours playing with my phone everyday. its like ONCE YOU GO ROOT YOU NEVER GO BACK.
Been rooted for a pretty good while now and have tried several ROMs.
In the end I am now back to running stock with root access. (with bloatware removed of course.)
Its nice and stable, no issues at all. And the only thing I really use root for anymore. is wifi-teather and force roaming at work (since I can't get a good sprint signal at my desk.)
first of all i found out about this site when i had my hd2 and heard about it being able to run android. i did it and loved it...i then got my evo and kept coming on this site everyday just to read about all the cool stuff that it could do. theres alot of rooting guides on here but i finally went for it when i read a pretty good guide on goodandevo.net i was only going to root 4 the wireless tether app (which i really dnt use cuz i have internet at home) i left it stock for about a week and then i got the courage and flashed the sprint lovers rom...it was great...after a while i found mikfroyo 4.5 and loved it soo much...i saw all the custom stuff i could do with it and now im hooked. rite now im using the leaked gingerbread rom. im waiting on something themed good to come out of that leak. i feel like i dnt wanna go bak to froyo
@emcp, yep, I got the talking to also!!!
I have definitely favored the dark themed sense roms. I am still not entirely sure on all the differences between AOSP and Sense but from what I can see I prefer Sense.
Which, an update, I am now back on the Warm 2.2 RLS5 and trying some different Kernels. Hooked on Netarchy for sure, seems the most prominent. Seems that the older builds are working better for me... again an area I need more expertise, like what Kernels are functional with which Roms. I am glad that Myn has a listing of recomended Kernels, and he is absolutely right, I have tried others and they are laggy.
@bart, have you checked out the "Z" roms? Warm Z and Kings Z are the two I have tried. They are supposed to be mimicking the 2.3/2.4 feel of GB. Landscape homescreens and dark menus.... I think they look good, but not so stable.
I rooted my first evo about almost a year ago and have tried many different roms. My current favorite is Eternal Prophecy. Then my wife wanted upgraded her phone and the 1st thing i did was root it she decided she liked her Azrael X v4.0. My next phone will most likely be the HTC Evo 3D, I'll root that too
So, I have gone full circle it seems now. I thought I would never get on the Cyanogen boat, yet here I am on 7.0.3.1. I was even doing nightlies for a while... Went back to stable because... It's stable!
I have gone and checked out most of the new ports like the speedy ones and the kingdom port. I do like them, but cm7 is so simplistic and made for customization and performance.
My hope is that Myn will put out a GB version of warm so i can run that as a backup, seeing that cm7 is missing some sprint features, like EPST commands, and PRL update, which are crucial!

Need advice, can't find a good ROM

Hello everyone, for a little while I've been trying to find an ideal ROM for daily use, nothing fancy but something that meets my needs;
Most of all I need it to send/receive calls reliably and have decent battery life. I don't quite want something really flashy though eye candy makes the phone feel new & updated but functionality is more important to me. Here's a quick list of thing that I NEED working:
-Ability to disable data roaming (rules out express)
-4G (rules out all MIUI)
-Smooth video camera 720p without being choppy (rules out synergy)
-No random bugs ie, lock screen, weather, clocks (just the basics)
If you have tried or know of any currently available ROMs that fit this criteria please point me in the right direction, I'm so tired of flashing all these different ROMS only to find out that one of the things listed was not mentioned under the ROM description where I downloaded it, I know most of them claim to be bug-free but there is no such thing as bug free ROM unless I go back to stock, and I understand that so I'm not looking for the holy grail, just something that works for what I need it to do.
phone is rooted & running amon-ra recovery
Thanks in advance

you guys are awesome I'm going to try all these suggestions, deck is very fast and stable (so far) but a bit too simple and lacks eye candy, I feel like it'll be the ROM I fall back to if the others fail for me in any way
by the way, if it's not too much trouble do you guys have links? I searched for these roms but there are several with similar names!

MikG is awesome
I to have been using gummy ics rom, and no problems so far but the ones in the op, great from give it a run.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA
for the longest time i was running the newest and best version of KINGS ROM. i always thought his roms were amazing. ran them for MONTHS. back in oct i changed to evo deck and honestly i will NEVER go to another rom. the advanced CPU options and amazing smoothness of the rom makes it THE BEST, PERIOD
Best I know Rom

I think the most stable Rom out is MikG v3.1 It's a sense 2.1 3.0 Rom with a Ton of themes and mods that can be mixed to suit your style. Because of the hardware we have on the EVO there's only so much you can get out of it. Anything above 3.0 doesn't play nice with our phones. I've tested and read about every Rom out there and MikG v3.1 running Anthrax kernel with v6 Superscript & 3G turbo is the best.
my sense load is mikg 3.XX and my aosp load is aokp m4. both worked flawlessly.
wow I am blown away by Tomatoe's express
tons of space left after flash & installing all my apps also fast & smooth.
Reset the battery & unplugged it yesterday morning and now it's been over 24 hours since I last charged it, talked for at least an hour, sent & received some texts, had wifi on the entire time, as mentioned I've been downloading stuff off the market & even played pandora for at least half an hour and right now the battery still has 38% left, I wanted to test all the other ROMs mentioned but I find it hard getting out of this comfort spot I find myself in now that I have everything set up the way I like it

I may be wrong since I'm starting to forget what I have & have not tried yet but have you had trouble with video cam at 720p? again I could be wrong but I wanna say that I experienced choppy recording from mikG, I like sense 3.0 most when it comes to look & feel so I might give it a try....
I'm still very amazed by tomatoe's express, my excitement will wear off in a day or two I am sure haha
on a side note, I may have found a problem with express (or my google voice!!)
I have over 50% reception in my home, and since last night I've seen 2 missed calls on my google voice inbox but the phone never rang, could this be the ROM or Google?
