Hey all
So i have replaced LG and iphone screens many times before. Never a HTC. I have replaced the glass and everything(reheated the adhesive that was previous there) and put it back together. The screen is a bit loose but shouldn't fall out as i didn't damage much of the glue. I was thinking wow this was a piece of cake!
BUT.. The front buttons(Home, Options, back, and search) appear to be stuck down(i think). When you try to press them they feel just solid and not a button. I can sometimes get the home button to press like a button but its definitely broke as can be.
Also when i boot up it appears the phone is stuck in a white screen showing some options...cant remember excatly what but i know it tells you to use volume buttons to move and the power button to select(assumed bootloader). I have no movement when i try any button combo. Also it seems when i stick the battery in and boot it goes straight into that no matter what i do.
Any help would be great! I really need it as its the GF's phone and she gets back in 3 hours
I think what is happening to the bottom buttons is that the glass is just a hair to large. Like a micron off causing the buttons to be bust down to the base(towards the mic). Not sure how to fix it except sending it back for a new one....Anyone have this issue? i got it from repair universe.

Come on, somone here must have successfully dismantled the screen on the Universal.
I have a problem with mine when I open it in clamshell mode that it appears as though the speaker, phone and wifi icons at the top are continually being pressed - I get the impression that there is some dirt trapped along the edge of the screen - it work OK in potrait/PDA mode.
So, I have downloaded the manual and am trying to dismantle the screen, but after removing the screws where it tells you to push a screwdriver into the hole in the bottom left hand edge to release a catch holding the screen together, I am pressing away on the rubber cover and nothing seems to be happening.
I don't want to force the phone apart, so any pointers would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
aright previously my LCD screen was cracked well i got the replacement LCD screen and it works fine. BUT my problem now is that its just displaying a white screen. Nothing else. I take off the battery put it back on turn the phone on and i get a white screen no letters no nothing.
Does this mean my phone is a brick?
i still get response when i hold down the comm button it vibrates. The volume slider responds with the volume going up and down. and when i try to hard reset via holding the comm button, voicebutton, camera button and hitting the soft reset button it responds to it and resets the phone apparantly.
So i know for a fact the actual phone works..but its not displaying anything but a white screen...is there anything else i can do ?
If you have replaced the screen yourself, it may be worth trying to re-fit it again. Make sure the connectors are in pefectly, and make sure there is no dirt on them. If the pda still responds to button presses, it's fine, it's only the srcreen that's damaged/non-functional...
To see if this is the case, try tapping on the very to left of the screen, and see if you get the start menu pop. If you don't it's prolly the connector not plugged in properly, if you do, then the connector may be damaged...
ok im trying now..but how could it be the screen if the screen is giving me a perfectly white screen and its been tested to be working correctly?
sweeet i reconnected everything and it worked thanks for the recommendation dood much appreciated

Nice to see that my reccomendation worked for you. I've never replaced a colour LCD screen before, but some of the B&W ones i've replaced have had similar faults. It's the same with old cartridge games if you think about it, you used to have to blow on them ocasionally...
Modern technology may be perfect in every respect, but the manufacturing methods arn't.
Okay, I read that someone lifted part off the front by removing a screen saver! Now with me, I recognized that on the left side bottom, left to where the slideview and call buttons are under, the ENTIRE part seems to come up.
It is lifting itself and I bet in a few days/weeks this will get off.
So my question is if anybody had this happen and knows what is under there? Is there a possibility to GLUE it back on?
Now since I am watching this, I think the ENTIRE front can come off eventually and if it is just glued on at the bottom where one has to press the buttons all the time, it is only a matter of (short!) time until this gets out of hand.
Anybody found anything about taking this phone apart yet?
That happens to my phone, I do not bring it back because I buy it in a duty free shop here it japan and also that is the only issues on my phone and only some bugs. I just press it always there to bring it down but it keeps popping up. I think i can glue it, so I do it to fix the problem. Just be carefull if you do it, I notice that under the plastic screen there are buttons (as I think it is) the hard part that you feel when pressing the slideview or call. When you use a liquid glue and put to much, it can go to that button and worst may stuck that part or go inside the phone and also the part where the mic is. I put glue just on the sides just make sure to put small amount at a time. I cannot give the brand of the glue that I use because its in japanese. Now only the small part in the call buttons is up a little because I cannot put enough glue on that part, but in the slide view button its now okay and working well.
This is my firts post on xda hope it helps a little.
Hi . I changed my tmobile hd2's screen .
After change volume keys not working. So I can't update any rom.
Because I can't enter recovery.
How can I upgrade any rom without volume keys.
Can "CWM recovery touch" solve my problem.
Can I upgrade any rom with cwm touch recovery without volume keys
im not really sure about how to initally get into the recovery withour the volume keys, but if you can some how, a touch CMW recovery will work
it has directional keys on the bottom of the screen for you to navigate around
just flash it like you wud a normal recovery with what ever set-up size you need!

On the non touch cwm (some of them anyway) you can use home and menu hard keys to scroll as well as volume.
But as already mentioned, you can't get into recovery so having touch or alternate keys won't help.

DO NOT FLASH ANYTHING WITH DAMAGED VOLUME KEYS!!
I flashed a splash screen on mine after damaging ribbon to volume keys and now I have a main board that will NOT recognize these keys even after replacing the broken part, I cant say yours will do this, but mine did soo...
I have replaced two screens on mine, the ribbon to the volume rocker is very delicate i tore two of them on my first screen replacement ( i buy bricked HD2s' for screens). I have had my HD2 now almost two years and no parts are original. Just recently i FINALLY bought one with a busted out screen so i could replace just the main ribbon assembly and a main board that can use volume keys.
This main ribbon sits under your regulatory label ( with the FCC shiz and serial #'s) its integral with your GPS radio, camera assembly, and of course volume rocker keys.
This can be replaced with only moderate difficulty, there are videos even from HTC that explains how to disassemble/reassemble everything safely and in order.
Disassemble

Reassemble

I found those after I ripped not one but two volume key ribbons....
To do this you need to pay attention to how the coaxial cables for bluetooth(white) and GPS(black thin) sit, to avoid a few hours of trial and error. getting everything to fit again.
First disconnect the coaxial from blutooth be gentle now, its the white cable at the left of my first image, that phone is nowhere near assembled remember how your cable was positioned. remove and unplug the speaker as well as the vibrator as you move the white cable out of the way, stop pulling it when you hit the screw hole at the top right corner of regulatory label.
Just above where the screw hole is you should see another plug like the blutooth coaxial only black disconnect that and leave it there. try to leave the thicker black cable that leads to camera connected, its ok if it comes out but its a pain to get connected again.
When the top right of your phone looks like my second pic your ready to remove the screw keeping the gps in place thats the top right screw, silver.
disconnect the camera cable from the main board its right next to the battery terminals, the only plug there and hard to miss behind where your simcard goes.
This is important..... right behind the volume keys is the groove thats keeping those coaxial and camera cables in place, under those is the ribbon leading to volume rocker. taking note of how they fit remove these cables from the groove 4th pic
Sorry about the detail cameras are less than perfect on ICS builds and im a terrible photographer on top of that. you must understand that there is a black tape holding those wires together near the mother board, thats right where the volume ribbon is so be careful when you get to that. i just cut/tear the tape holding wires in place, also one of the coaxial cables plugs under the main board right there as well be careful not to disconnect that, you wont hurt anything but its a pain to get it back.
after cables are free from groove you can remove volume rocker. rocker board is held with adhesive just like the camera up top. using fingernail pry the board away from its housing, when its loose from the housing its glued to just let it sit loose, be gentle while getting that loose.
now for the gps/camera, you can fit a small flat head screwdriver between edges of gps board and the plastic of the phone casing, the gps board has clip holding left side so go from the right or the same side that screw was in.
the camera is only adhered so you can put pressure to wherever you feel comfortable its actually pretty solid i have done it a few times and never harmed it.
peel it like you would a sticker down to the main board where it connects under the sdcard then pull it straight back. the last image is what the assembly looks like in tact so have an idea of where not to put too much stress when peeling it.
again DONT FLASH ANYTHING IF YOU RIPPED RIBBON TO VOLUME ROCKER!! This may wreck your main board as it did mine and you'll be stuck on sd builds until you find another main board....
HD2's with busted screens go for about $60-80 off ebay shipped. send me message if you have any q's, also that ribbon/camera/gps assembly in last picture is tested by me and fully functional, also much cheaper than a busted screen HD2 ........
Hi mrbox23,
I believe I have flashed my HTC HD2 (or at least tried) and now I can't get past the HTC splash screen and can't initiate the bootloader!
Hi opened the HTC HD2 and found that the ribbon/flex to volume rocker is cutted!
Now, according to your post it's probable that if I replace the whole main flex I won't be able to initiate bootloadr because the mainboard won't recognise the volume buttons?
Another question is: you said "This may wreck your main board as it did mine and you'll be stuck on sd builds until you find another main board...." this means that I can still use my HTC HD 2 using the sd memory card only with some build? If so can you tell me, or at least, point out some post where to do it? Because in every post that I saw it is necessary to be able to initiate the bootloader!
I would be very gratefull if you could help me on this.
Best regards,
calcaneo
Just replaced the glass on my s4. I have never done it and put way too much glue on. Most of it seeped out the sides but it got down into the home button and capacitive buttons. The phone is completely apart and board/camera/proximity sensor is gone from phone. Will the home button eventually stop working? Read a thread online that said they will corrode but don't think that's right. How should I get the excess glue dry or out of the phone. Thanks for the help.
Any way I can get uv light down there? Or is it okay if it's there? Can someone plz respond so I don't wreck my phone.
