I actually like Locations. Sure it lags a bit, but it saves your wallet if you're planning on going out of your country for a couple of days.

it maybe flakey, but the almost instant load is a cracking feature
Try clearing data, and redownloading the update again.
On another note, do try the latest version of Google Maps, with some of the labs addons (map downloads etc). Traffic updates work amazingly well with it, it's the best sat-nav I've ever had (apart from the fact that it doesn't know many one-way roads too well!)
It is not a good deal use HTC Location
It is not a good deal use HTC Location. If you plan to change you cell phone to a new one, don't buy any htc location license. The htc location license uses the cell phone IMEI. So, if you change your phone, you lose your licenses.
I talked with HTC about that... and they answered:
"If you changed to another phone, you need to buy the license again.. We are so sorry for your inconvenience. Actually there are some 3rd party GPS software on Android Market. You can have a look at them first."
Try using HTC Sync to update Locations to the latest map versions. Worked fine for me

As title states, has any one used this GPS software on the Desire????
http://www.sygic.com
I´m using it..
Yes i´m using it and i find that it´s better than all they other Nav´s to Android.
Good to hear, im thinking of geting this soon. It look the biz......
Does it store on the sdcard or internal?
Does it have spoken stree names?
It store the app on the intern mem but the cards and so on, on the card. (like they other ones)
Not sure what you mean with spooken streetnames
Some GPS software say....turn left into desire avenue, then turn right into htc way............
Do you know what i mean?
I've been using Navigon since i bought the desire and it's working flawlessly, gonna try this sygic drive
The software is pretty good.
A few Cons:
Low resolution - Blurry look on desire
No way to make it personal - no other colour settings, cars and so on.
Seam to have a hard time syncing contacts - cant navigate to contact in your contact book.
Just wait and see Sygic Aura! It's out now on iPhone with hardware accelerated graphics and it looks incredible. It's coming soon to the Android platform, but I don't know if it will be accelerated on that too.
Sygic 's not compatible on my Desire. The resolution is not compatible (it stays in a corner of the phone). Do you have a workaround for this?

I have noticed most people are having problems using htcsense.com with the HTC Desire HD and I am no different. They appear to be upgrading there server but why is it taking months? as people have been having problems for months now.
I sent htc an email about htcsense.com and this is the response I had
"Over the past few months HTC has been undertaking an upgrade to HTCSense.com in order to enhance the web experience for our customers, extend service availability and increase service quality and uptime. During this upgrade process some people may experience some fluctuation in the services and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. We are implementing an update in the next month that should minimize most service problems. Currently, accounts have these main features: find my phone, call and message forwarding and lock and erase my phone. Over the next few months as we complete the upgrade, more features will be added into accounts. We appreciate your patience and support as we work to make the HTCSense.com experience even better."

Effectively, it is still a beta service from the sounds of it. Services like that require a lot of testing, and the best way to test it is by releasing it to everyone. Massive load on servers, means they can upgrade/tune it as needed.
Mine says that its not enabled on my phone and it gives you the relevant steps to enable, but it is all active on the phone, is this down to this server issue/upgrade issue? I'm not to bothered but be nice to know the service is there (and working) if god forbid it got lost or stolen.
Anyhow thanks for the information.

I had that problem too after I started using custom ROMs. Fortunately I found out that if I deleted the account on the phone aswell as on the website (htcsense.com) and used the phone to create it again, then it works. Try that
- Martin
It used to work for me the first time, now my phone is not found anymore and no action works. The only thing I keep getting is that anoying "Friends - contacts matches" crap that doesn't even work right. I'm using stock rom, not rooted or aything. Also country selection is a complete fail since not all countries where HTC phones are sold are listed, so I always select UK. They really should fix this service soon.
I had to factory reset my phone to fix a CPU utilization issue, Now after re entering the HTC account info, the gps phone location bit on HTC sense does now at least show a map, but thinks I'm in Africa... admittedly I haunt used the gps to update so will try that but functions like ring phone just fail... so better but not great....

Hmmm now its working ok, but the gps location thing keeps coming on on its own so that's annoying so yeah try re-installing the app and or re creating the account.
I do.d the friend link thing ok, not part of HTC sense online service tho =]
Hope you sort it! Or it gets sorted!

I totally agree, I installed it so I could transfer my contacts from Outlook onto my DHD. It just says Outlook was preventing it, but I could see nothing wrong, ended up saving the contacts out as a file and sending it over Bluetooth.
It's a shame HTC sense on the phone and the hardware is prity flawless, the pc and online software is really setting the game down.
Hopefully they sort it out with updates.

Hi
Got my Desire HD yesterday guys, I'm in Ireland. Surprise surprise HTCSense.com cannot locate my phone even though all the settings are turned on etc. I e-mailed them and got the usual about the service being upgraded yada yada!!
I read on the Teachradar review (http://www.techradar.com/reviews/phones/mobile-phones/htc-desire-hd-717295/review?artc_pg=9) that this was an issue back in October as well, cannot believe its still not fixed :-(
Cheers,
M
PS: Love my Desire HD but would love to have the find my phone feature actually working too!!
Ok this might help you if you are having issues with htcsense.com :
First htcsense didn't pork for me on FireFox 4 hut worked perfection IE9 no idea why put must be something related to plungins
Second the location service didnt work for me despite ableing the location on my settings, well actually that was due to my HD2 running desire HD Rom and in which I used my htcsencse account. Once I removed the Android from my HD2 I reinstalled a different desire HD Rom on it without login the htcsense, the location for my desire HD worked.
I am about to make my 9 hour journey to Syracuse New york on friday, and just flashed a stock rom in order to make sure my gps works. What do people think of telenav? It looks like it is pretty nice and sturdy..and i get thirty days for free, so i might as well use it. I am use to using googles navigation.

For short and quick trips, I use Google nav, for longer trips, I would recommend you using Tele nav, as it is more robust in routing and the address is more accurate. Google nav is based on google map and sometimes there are errors in Google map.
Telenav seems netters to me......Google maps sucks imo.

Why did you unroot? There are several apps that can test the gps and you do not need to unroot to use telenav aka sprint nvavigator.
As far a sprint navigator... I keep it on my phone just in case google navigator decides to not to find an address (it has happened)

Apparently it was..Seems kind of crappy looking. It does not provide the graphics that the Sprint nav has..

I use the free telenav service all the time. It work great!
i never really used the sprint nav, but that one was free right?...and telenav is not?
*edit*
i see from chads post that the telenav is free...the OP mentioned 30days free, so i was just wondering...
The Telenav that is installed on your phone is free. It replaced Sprint Navigation. Service for your Evo comes with free GPS.
There is also a Telenav that you can subscribe to for a monthly fee, but that's for the GPS enabled devices that do not include free service. All in all, it's the same thing, just for us, it's free.
oh cool.
i'll have to give it a shot.
thanks!
Telenav is awesome! Just as good if not better than Google Maps.

You do realize that you could write the complete title, as in, Premium Navigation.
There are people using the SEARCH of the forum, and with titles such as that, it defeats the entire purpose.
Anyhow, you're refering to programs like Navigon/nDrive/Sygic ?

I wouldn't really reccomend it. The DHD Can't really get a reliable GPS Signal without having mobile data on (Or at least in Sydney, Australia), and with mobile data, HTC Locations + Google Navigation is good enough, and free.
I actually prefer google navigation to the premium navigation feature on the Desire HD.
Google navigation is the bees knees i tell ya! Works perfectly for me. Why would anyone need an upgrade to it?

To be honest I would check your gps antenna.
If I go to France I do not have any data because of the roaming charges.
Yes it takes longer to get a fix, up to a minute, but the precision always stays below 15m in the car which is excellent.
In GPS test you can see the SNR (signal to noise ratio). Can you tell me which figures you get?

I accidentally invoked the trial period at a time when I had no trips planned. As such I could only test it locally for places I knew how to get to. Seemed ok though.
I paid for the lifetime license, based mainly on:
- The way it handles incoming calls.
- The maps being offline.
- Integration with Sense.
However, I do now regret rushing into buying this. It has not been great, and often I find myself having to revert to Google Maps Navigation instead. Problems I have experienced with the premium HTC Navigation include...
- Slow GPS fix (could do with something similar to Quick GPS on the HTC WinMo devices).
- Incorrectly identifying destination (hotel wasn't at indicated destination, and had to drive around unaided trying to find it).
- Destinations often not found (often put full postal address in contacts or calendar entries, but are not found by HTC Navigation. Google Maps usually doesn't have the same problem.)
- No option to choose an alternative route or add waypoints to force a new route.
I recently paid for the license. My DHD picks up GPS within secods.
I was worried because using google maps it took forever, but I did a soft refresh and after that gps works fine. Not sure if it was that or the fact I started using premium Nav.
I use it mainly for novelty value. All the voices are free so I like to try different languages.
I also find that the arrival time at destination is not as accurate as TomTom.
I like it better than googlemaps because of the natural voice and integration to HTC.

I just bought MapMyIndia which is powered by Sygic 10 interface, the GPS itself is fantastic and the maps seems good. Although the interface isn't all that great, it's kinda laggy to scroll. What do you guys use?
I shelled out another 30 euros for sygic indian maps and they work far better than mapmyindia's android version, mainly because the sygic is a version ahead of the one provided with mapmyindia.

Free is only Google Map (world navigation activated version), but it needs active data connection. Many are saying if you pre cache data, it can works offline. But make it clear, it won't work, though it will not fetch map data, still you need active data connection to start navigation, otherwise it will voice masg ' data connection lost'
but i think this is the best, B'coz 2G pack in india <2$/month, you can use wifi to precache map, where you are travelling and then use it, will not consume much data.
Paid version working good, i have tried almost all available and i giving details as per my expperience
1. Sygic Aura 11.2.3 - Best interface, Good map, working nice on high end device
2. Navigon,v6.0 Good interface, Good map, Working Flawless in most device
3. NDrive , Good map, n interface, but not as good as Navigon
4.Sygic MapmyIndia, Average interface, Map n FC many times
But google maps does not have voice navigation in India. How will it work ?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA App
It does have, I am using.
If you concern about voice only - You need Sound synthesis if not installed(TTS). But i think it is installed in Note already, when i have switched from SGS to Note, it was working without installing it.
you can check it ,setting - voice input n output - text to speech setting.
And If
You are saying that navigation not supported in india, Then you need world activated navigation, Not with market google map. I have mention in bracket it in earlier post.
Stock OR Market google Map restricted navigation to work for few countries only.
