Hi,
Im having a little trouble with my phone, i tried to update with seus and it said update failed for some reason, then my phone flat out refused to turn on, i got it to vibrate when i pressed the power key but thats it. I had a look araound and tried the flash tool in jerpelea's? rom thread and now i have it booting to a little picture of a phone with an exclamation mark. what do i do at this point to get it to fully boot, i have the 16 firmware file for flash tool but im not sure how to use it.
cheers
chris
have you tried using SEUS to repair it?
phone is not briked if you have exclamation mark.... just put it into bootloader(close the phone, remove the battery for 5s,put it back in, hold back button(while holding) plug the usb connected to your computer and you shoud see a the green light(if you dont see the green light you need to charge the phone.... needs about 50% power charge....(this happed to me twice where the phone refused to ener bootloader state because battery was below 50%...))) and flash it with one of the flash methods....
yeah, just looking at the flash tool now i seems to be getting an error,
java.io.IOException: unable to open channel
what could this mean?
if i remember correctly it mean you got the wrong device id....
mmm, thats wierd, i got it from the registry like i was told, is there another method?

im just trying that now, its downloading the software really slowly
check the registry there maybe more than 1 some people had 2 or 3 you have to try to see witch one is the good one...
that, or you have 64bit java, you need 32bit java preferably on a 32 bit windows system
seems to be fine now, thanks lads.
Sometimes simple is best!

Bricked X10i
I had my X10i for 1 day... fully charged and reading 100%. I installed the SEUS and the other SE software then plugged the X10i into the PC to see what upgrades were available. Wow! an upgrade was available, and having read the stuff on this site as well as others I did fresh installs of 32 and 64bit Java so that I wouldn't encounter problems. I started the upgrade with SEUS and it failed with about 5mm left on the progress bar. I thought this isn't a problem as I can always try again or use the other software. WRONG! Don't believe anyone that says that you can't brick the X10i, that is complete crap!
I sent my phone off to an SE phone repair company that does the job for most of the carriers in this country. After 3 hours on the bench attempting to un-brick the X10i the result was not a good one! The phone has to go to SE in Poland for 2 weeks to be repaired. Apparently there are situations where the memory can have defects and these are not shown up in the initial build. Only when the phone is upgraded can they show their true colours. Well my phone will be back in 2 weeks, working like new and me... well after this SE phone I won't buy another SE product again. Very very disappointed indeed. How I wish I had bought the Nexus One instead, well we live and learn! Incidently, before anyone says this could happen to any phone... I have 12 phones in a box behind me, including HTC and Apple which have had no problems, even after some pretty heavy abuse. The fact that the phone wasn't a day old and I was following SE's rules for the upgrades then all went bad leaves a very bad taste in my mouth.

Yeah, it sounds like you had some bad luck. I fail to see how that could reflect badly on SE though, it's not like they ship thousands of the phones with a known defect. You had some bad luck and I'm glad it got sorted, thank Kobold for warranties.
I only had it for about 4 days that I got from online unlock and was flashing the rom with "RUU_Leo_HTC_WWE_1.43.405.1_Radio_Signed_15.26.50.07U_2.04.50_22_2_Ship" it went thru the process and said done but when it boot back up it lock on the boot screen. I pull the batt and now no power on the phone or can hoot to the cpu it a "T-Mobile ver hd2. Thanks for your help..
Well hate to break the news but you flashed a rom for the Leo aka the Euro HD2. You just ruined your brand new phone. Hope you have insurance. Next time read up first before you flash.
I readed the infor on the web site before updated it and it said it was for the phone but guess that a losed for me now....this the web site it came from "//htcpedia.com/news/official-htc-hd2-wm6_5-rom".

You really did not look very hard, it is the 4th sticky down in the Tmo rom thread ... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=668347
Sorry to be harsh, but if you could not find a thread, that is that obvious, then why did you even attempt to flash the phone??
It does take some technical knowledge of the phone before you start screwing with them ..
You flashed a Stock HTC EU rom to your TMO US phone ....
If you had done ANY reading about your phone you would have found that the two are different phones , they look alike but they ARE different ...
Now Yes I am trying to piss you off, if you get mad you will go find the stuff yourself and learn it ...
We are here to help , the info is all over the site, but we cannot do it for you ...
So don't cry when people laugh at you for pulling a bonehead move ....
EDIT:
Just want to say, just like in life you pull a bonehead move here, people might feel sorry for you , but they are still gonna laugh ...

Hey you need to look back over the message I never said I couldn't find it on this site..but think you for the info.
Well send the phone back to HTC after 1 1/2 week got it back today but the phone is lock now...call them to let them know and they will give me the code have to check back in two days...but I have it back work is the big thing...
If you're wanting to make it stock again I'd suggest you get the the rom from the link provided. The IMEI code can be found on the back of the box that HD2 came in.

The phone hasn't even been out for a year and manufacturs warranty is a year. For HTC this is a simple fix as hooking up a jtag programmer and just flashing a new bootloader. 1st step is to walk into your tmo store you bought it from *****ing up a storm your lawyer dad just bought you that phone and he's pissed and wants them to replace it. Since you said you bought it from some unlock online place?????, weird you would buy the phone previously unlocked then come here to play with roms when you could of skipped all those steps and bought one on CL for $250 and paid $4 on ebay for an unlock code. Ok that being said option 2 if you bought it from a fly by night online company is to directly contact HTC begging them to flash a new bootloader for you and restore the phone to factory condition. Tell them you bought it from a store and make your own bs receipt to send in. 3rd option is to break the phone up and sell it off. The LCD and Digi will bring in $130 easy, case and battery will bring in $40-$50, buttons, mic, and radio chip, $50, then go buy a new one on CL for $250. Hope this helps you more hten the previous posts. But essesially they are right, you flashed a rom for a different phone to yours and now you phone thinks its a Euro HD2 and when it tries to fire up nothing connected to the right pins and it failing. If we had a pin out for the chip or epprom we may be able to fix this but I would imagine its going to require resoldering on a new epprom.

heh, three times a day in my experience.
No, lol , hahhahahah I'm glad he got his new phone. I just read his 1st post then the 5 post after that calling him stupid and decided I'd just hit reply.
So last Friday I was attempting to install Galaxy S status bar on my N1, but in the process of trying to do too much I Bricked my phone. Mind you, Im not a complete noob to the process. I've rooted mytouch, G1, and even tinkered with my Shadow, so I'm pretty familiar with the processes, but this time I finally F'd up and I knew it. Phone just flashed orange and green light top right corner. Did my research and saw other posts w/similar problems but all battery related, but I still tried their solutions to no avail. The only thing to do other than to use it as paper weight was to try my warranty, which all of us know is void after unlocking. So I Called HTC warranty hotline and explained my problem without telling them of the custom rom I installed and they gave me two options; replace w/refurb or fix mine, mine is engraved so replacement out of question. So they emailed me a overnight shipping label, I sent it to them on Monday, they received it on Tuesday, Fixed it on Thursday, and I got it back on Friday, good as new. So basically to all who dare to root and mod your phones and Brick it in the process. Try your warranty. Worse they can say is no. In my case they fixed it.
They fixed mine as well and even re-locked the bootloader. Mind you, I ended up rooting it again as soon as I got it back. HTC rocks!

Now that's service I'm impressed. Frankly I'm impressed with Android and the community. Google knows exactly what people are doing and they go just a step shy of condoning it and now to hear the HTC does this sort of thing knowing fully well that there's a 99% chance it's bricked cause someone was nerding out it
Having come over from a 3GS just about a month ago I am really impressed with Android. The only thing now is a solid hardware platform. I love my Nexus One but there are things HTC could have done better, mainly screen related, and Motorola is etched in my brain as making the most annoying phones in history. But aside from that, I think it's Android for life for me
Are you sure your bricking related to flashing a themed bar?
I thought that bricking your phone was only possible through some low-level processes such as flashing a radio.
Either way, glad they fixed your problems.
Yea. Pretty sure I bricked it. Trying to flash the Galaxy status bar didn't brick it, but the series of mis-steps that followed did. But I got it back, re-unlocked it and happy as can be. Thanx HTC.
Hi, did HTC ask you for an reeipt or proof of warranty? I am asking cause i purchased my nexus from ebay(no receipt or warranty whatsoever) and i've read in other threads that HTC did not ask for these papers considering that the phone is less than 1 yr old.
thanks.
makes me wonder why anyone would want to root without unlocking the bootloader

Nope. I bought mine off ebay as well and I even said that on the phone but the lady from HTC said that was fine. They fixed my phone no problem
I am going to attempt a replacement on mine. Except I have the unfortunate issue of the void sticker missing from the screw on the back. I'm going to send it in anyway, since I have a dust under the screen issue. Perhaps they will be nice and replace it anyway. If not, well I guess it will cost me $28 to get it back. Or maybe not that much to have them fix it..
My "old" X10 presented some weird issues with 720p recording and GPS navigation, both rebooting the phone after a few minutes plus the device getting very hot.
At first I thought it was because of some custom ROMs and custom kernels with OC, but I reached the conclusion it was a hardware issue since I flashed back the stock ROM and the issues continued.
Anyways.... today they called me and gave me a brand new arc!!!
I'm kind excited but in the mean time I bought an Atrix and I think I'll sell the arc but not without play with it for a while
That's fairly lucky. I used to work in SE contact centre(in the days of the K750) in the UK and we had to push like crazy to get customers new handsets let alone an upgrade!
Yeah, it wasn't easy at all. I had to submit it 3x and wait more than 30 days each. Was happy if they gave me a new X10. I was almost giving up and suing them according to the BR laws then today I received the unexpected call

Sent with stock original firmware, always. I don't think root is an issue, but custom roms are.
Actually once I forgot to switch back from a custom ROM and the guys on Technical Assistance were really nice and informally refused without registering anything about it. I went home, reflashed original firmware and sent it back like it never happened
More than one person told me that SE had a lot of problematic X10s and if you insist on replace the device, they will probably will give you something new too.
ill buy the arc.

Root or modified firmware will void the warranty and they can see if it's been done really easy in EMMA now.
EMMA will show that modified software has been detected and tell the operator to deal with it as OUT-OF-WARRANTY.
So if you're still under warranty flash it back to stock before you send it in.
So, I just need to destroy my X10 so I can send it back
lucky man
Thats pretty sweet, ive had to return phones to SE before (or an "authorised repairer" in my country, which is 600km's away, at my cost(?!?!)) and all i ever get is the same phone back with the particular part replaced. (which in one case failed again just AFTER the original warranty and repair warranty ran out)
Must be an X10 problem they cant just "fix" for you.
I would drop the atrix and keep the arc, the screen on the atrix is just a bit dodge for my liking, otherwise a great phone with some great standout features, but i'll bet the bravia powered display on that arc is brilliant!
All of you are unlucky lol, maybe it's an error on motherboard. My phone run very smooth, watch 720p, HD game but no rebooting lol
Ive had the above for about a month never have i been satisfied with the volume (being hard of hearing doesnt help)to the point where id all ready booked a repair date for next week
The phones unlocked and rooted (bit obvious else i wouldn't be on this forum would i )and in truth ive been playin with a lot of patches and apps out there to improve the volume
Now yesterday after tryin beats xlouder and a couple of sound boost apps. i followed a link to bryce09 kernel which i flashed only to find it killed the phone and i mean KILLED
Ive tried the Nexus repair toolkit/Wgfresh on a VM running W7 and nothing!!
Now im on an iMac and ive run Galaxy Nexus GSM unroot/stock and it goes through all the processes and at the end says press start
But theres nothing on the screen at all all tho and the power button does nothing
Now if i strip down the phone and disconnect the battery am i right in thinking it will reset it
or as ive all ready got a repair booked is it worth it

Just wish id knew this before i got rid of my old Sammsung Galaxy Nexus
So any ways its on eBay lol not even going to undo it

Please tell me you did not tell them what you did to the phone, because that would have been silly, and partially my fault because I forgot to warn you. If your phone was indeed dead, it would have been difficult for them to tell.

Silly repair booking person, to assume you've given the a different contact number, considering your phone may be broken, they'd never assume you'd give them that number
vivid experiance
I purchased Nexus 4, on the 4th day it's failed to boot i don't root or damage anything
only stuck in boot process and nothing i searched xda
i got how to flash the firm from xda developers i did what they tell
but i flashed successfully
i turn on mobile the same boot failure again came it's not woking
what i do ? tell me i sent to mobile dealer they replace me and give me a new box
