Wifi Direct multiplayer games between two GS2 possible? - Galaxy S II General

Are there any games that support wifi direct for multiplayer using two Galaxy S II phones?
I have found Pong 3D, which supports multiplayer on two phones, but you both must be connected to the same wifi network.
As I want to play the games on the train with someone else, and the train has no wifi network, is it possible to find a game that uses wifi direct to play against each other?

i think he meant gaming using the WIFI direct without being connected to a router!!

I have the same question. Is there any way to play some game with two SGS 2 that are connected using wi-fi direct?

Guerilla bob i have tried and it works multiplayer with wifi direct!!
using the manual mode the one joining has to enter the wifi direct ip of the host..!!

I don't understand... Can you explane what exactly the hoster need to do, and what exactly the one who is joining the game need to do? Thank you!

I have only done it with guerilla bob not sure abt other games..
You need to start wifi - direct in both the devices and connect to each other.
Then u will be able to see an option as status.. click on that in the device of the person hosting that game.. and note down the ip address..
Now start the game("guerilla bob") in both device.. select multiplayer...
Host a game while others click on join...
When clicked on Join you will be presented with manual connect.. use that and enter the ip address of the host..
Hope that helps!

cant get it to work
Hey,
I have a nexus 7 (JB) and att skyrocket(ics 4.0.4) both with wifi direct and as you said i connected them and i dont see any status.
the only thing i can do is connect and disconnect no properties nothing.
and when i go to guerilla bob and press multiplayer it says no wifi available.
i dont know what the problem is. it would be great if you could help me.
Thanks.

I think asphalt 7

I have done this with many multi player wifi games without a router... The method I use is to setup wifi tether on phone A... Connect to Phone A from Phone(s) B, C, D via wifi...

I dont think the PS3 supports ADHoc connection types, therefor they dont show up on the list.
That's the only type of connection you can set the WiFi router up as on the HD2, sorry.
Thank you Ashleigh

No probs, however if your on 3, then why not pick up one of their PayG MiFi routers, think they are about 50 quid now and use your 3 Sim in it.

what about the PSP? ad-hoc multiplayer is used on it so would it be possible to use thehd2 to play online anywhere?

Good idea Let me try this out Thank god I own a psp too
Damn...PSP is a noob -_- It didn't work LOL! But my Touch Pro 2 and Blackstone discovered it...so it's not entirely useless. Btw I found a solution! I connect the phone to my laptop, either through the cable or the Wifi app, and thus the laptop has internet. Then, I connect a LAN TCP wire connecting my laptop and PS3. Then I share the internet connection between the PS3 and the laptop. Modern Warfare 2 is quite playable online, with 3 bars of connectivity! Ps. Enabling the Draft N registry hack helped the speed from 2 bars to 3 (out of 4)

Having trouble finding my phone as a media server on my PS3.
They are both connected to the same wifi, and after opening allshare on the phone and selecting play file from phone I search for media servers on the ps3 and it finds nothing.
Are there specific ports that need to be open on the network? could anyone give some pointers?
Thanks, Dan.

are you sure you have media server enabled on the ps3?
Thanks for the reply.
Yeah, I've also tried disabling it and then re-enabling it as I read somewhere that it uses different ports each time, but I've had no success

NESoid & SNESoid 2.0 (Net-Play)!?

So the apps NESoid & SNESoid are now version 2.0 which provides a feature called Net Play, which is described as "* Net-play through Bluetooth (requires Android 2.x) or Wi-Fi!"
The options in the menu provide this:
Bluetooth (Client)
Bluetooth (Server)
Wi-fi (Client)
Wi-fi (Server)
Now I was hoping to get a sweet multiplayer game of Street Fighter II Turbo going, so I loaded up that ROM, clicked "Menu" >> "Net Play" >> "Wi-fi (Server)" and it is trying to establish a connection, but never does. Do you think this means no one else in the world, at that moment, is trying to play Street Fighter II Turbo?
Would anyone like to experiment with trying to get a connection, or has anyone succeeded yet?
*Edit* After clicking on Wi-fi (Client), it is asking me to enter in an IP address...so I'm thinking one person would host by picking (Server) and then would tell the (Client) their IP address, and when they enter it in, they could play together! Who wants to try??
Not to hijack your thread, but where can I find roms to play with the emulator. I would love to past street fighter with you lol

I'm sorry but I don't think you're question can be answered per XDA rules, but just remember Google is your friend!
This is great to see and I might actually buy SNESoid to take advantage of this (I played through multiple TMNT and Kirby games with a friend that was 500+ miles away at the time via the ZSNES emulator and it was great, just like sitting beside one another).
I think you need to be on the same WiFi or be near another person using bluetooth.

I think I spotted a problem OP. In the screenshot you posted, the IP address listed is an internal IP (meaning that only people on the same LAN network you are on could have the chance to connect to you). I don't know if the devs did this on purpose or not, but a way around this is by going into your wifi router's settings and looking for a "Forward Ports" option.
Then you would input the internal IP of your Android (can be found in Settings/Wifi but is most likely the IP address in the screenshot) and the port it is using for the server. Then all the multiplayer traffic to your public IP should be automatically forwarded to you're Android and you should be able to play against people over the internet. Hope that helps!
Has anybody ever got this to work? I can get the phones to sync fine but with serious slowdown via WIFI and Bluetooth.
Anybody else mess with this?
I have tried it over bluetooth, and an old wireless B router. I was using the HTC Evo, and my wife has the LG Optimus S. In both cases, the game play gets pretty slow. I have tried adjusting frame rates, sounds off, etc. Nothing seems to get it to run full speed.
I emailed the Dev, who is incredibly responsive by the way, and he said that WiFi is better than bluetooth. So, I am trying to get my hands on a wireless N or at least wireless G router. I am going to plug it in, leave it open, and then not have any other traffic going over it, and see if that helps.
To be honest, I don't think it will. The way he has the netplay working is by having the client phone sync to the same state that the server phone is in. Essentially it's like loading a new save state every 10 seconds on the client phone, and the server phone waiting for it to catch up.
My bet is that he will continue to work on improvements. The best way to have it work would be have 2 identical phones, (processors, etc), same rom, same speeds and tweaks, and then try it on a wireless N if the phones are capable, with no other traffic on it, just the 2 phones. If that doesn't get it to run at full speed, then this is a beta feature, and we will have to wait for a better update.
I can say that games like tetris, or DR mario, although they run slow and a little choppy, are still playable, and are pretty fun, but I think something like killer instinct would be too choppy.

hi there. everyone is wrong here. lol
I have play as well. you don't need to use the Bluetooth. u don't need any app(depending if ur network provider has disabled tethering) here is how u use it like a wifi modem.
application>settings>wireless and networks> Tethering and Portable hotspots> portable wi-fi hot spot must be checked. then use port. wi-fi hotsport setting to change the name or the password for the wireless.
now use ur laptop and refresh the list. u must see (R800a or R800i be default name)
this could be disabled from ur network provider. if that's the case try using PDANET. its free to try and always works great with USB.
You could use the hotspot option but they charge for the data if you dont have hotspot service enabled they r gonna charge like crazy so the best way is to use an app that is gonna bypass that and he wants to use bluetooth tether so thats why im giving him that option

thx everyone , Is it more power-consuming via wifi function ?
And is it possible to access internet via USB (modem) ?
My play supports tethering via usb standard.

[Q] WIFI DIRECT (= local wifi file sharing) on blade? ?

Is there any hope for having wifi file share feature on blade .
Few days ago I have seen two of my friends having Samsung galaxy note which has WIFI DIRECT. The file transfer through WIFI DIRECT is amazingly fast. My friend got 100MB transfered in around 30seconds on his galaxy note running gingerbread .
I'm wondering if this feature is hardware only or will it come to all devices sometime in the future. I think ics has APIs to it but is it hardware-only..??
Sent from my Blade using XDA
You can download File Expert from Play store and use that to setup FTP and share files through wifi or network. I've used it and it is indeed very fast.
Sent from my Blade using XDA app
But what I'm talking about doesn't require internet access point to share files.
WIFI DIRECT between two phones without even having internet access to both phones. Just like Bluetooth file sharing between devices.

No.
WIFI DIRECT is like local wifi file sharing without any interference of mobile networks or access point.
In file manager when we long press on file and select share , there will be option to send file via wifi direct. Then one device has to create a local wifi network and other device has to connect to same network. But it won't need mobile network or 3G or access point or any hotspot connected.

basically, this feature to share file b/w devices without any router(access point) is called WIFI DIRECT. I am not sure that this feature if fully dependent on hardware or may be software dependent but I with my brother making a very similar app whicg sends files between devices without using any access point.
It is 90% complete now and soon we will publish it in the play store (android market).
it does not require any user interpretation u just have to send file like u send through bluetooth. it gives 2.5-3.0 MBps speed.
so plzz wait for our upload and appreciate our work if like it.

Hey all the best for the work on this.
Yes my bad , the feature is WIFI DIRECT and not wifi file share. I would appreciate it.
The meaning of wifi has always something to do with internet access point which is useless for file sharing if we have a less speed internet (high speed wifi device with low speed internet where internet speed limits the transfer speed). I always wished to have wifi file transfers without the access point and haven't yet found anything similar other than the wifi direct on newer devices.
Once again all the best and im eagerly waiting for ur app.
