NESoid & SNESoid 2.0 (Net-Play)!? - Droid Incredible General

So the apps NESoid & SNESoid are now version 2.0 which provides a feature called Net Play, which is described as "* Net-play through Bluetooth (requires Android 2.x) or Wi-Fi!"
The options in the menu provide this:
Bluetooth (Client)
Bluetooth (Server)
Wi-fi (Client)
Wi-fi (Server)
Now I was hoping to get a sweet multiplayer game of Street Fighter II Turbo going, so I loaded up that ROM, clicked "Menu" >> "Net Play" >> "Wi-fi (Server)" and it is trying to establish a connection, but never does. Do you think this means no one else in the world, at that moment, is trying to play Street Fighter II Turbo?
Would anyone like to experiment with trying to get a connection, or has anyone succeeded yet?
*Edit* After clicking on Wi-fi (Client), it is asking me to enter in an IP address...so I'm thinking one person would host by picking (Server) and then would tell the (Client) their IP address, and when they enter it in, they could play together! Who wants to try??

Not to hijack your thread, but where can I find roms to play with the emulator. I would love to past street fighter with you lol

I'm sorry but I don't think you're question can be answered per XDA rules, but just remember Google is your friend!
This is great to see and I might actually buy SNESoid to take advantage of this (I played through multiple TMNT and Kirby games with a friend that was 500+ miles away at the time via the ZSNES emulator and it was great, just like sitting beside one another).

I think you need to be on the same WiFi or be near another person using bluetooth.

I think I spotted a problem OP. In the screenshot you posted, the IP address listed is an internal IP (meaning that only people on the same LAN network you are on could have the chance to connect to you). I don't know if the devs did this on purpose or not, but a way around this is by going into your wifi router's settings and looking for a "Forward Ports" option.
Then you would input the internal IP of your Android (can be found in Settings/Wifi but is most likely the IP address in the screenshot) and the port it is using for the server. Then all the multiplayer traffic to your public IP should be automatically forwarded to you're Android and you should be able to play against people over the internet. Hope that helps!

Has anybody ever got this to work? I can get the phones to sync fine but with serious slowdown via WIFI and Bluetooth.
Anybody else mess with this?

I have tried it over bluetooth, and an old wireless B router. I was using the HTC Evo, and my wife has the LG Optimus S. In both cases, the game play gets pretty slow. I have tried adjusting frame rates, sounds off, etc. Nothing seems to get it to run full speed.
I emailed the Dev, who is incredibly responsive by the way, and he said that WiFi is better than bluetooth. So, I am trying to get my hands on a wireless N or at least wireless G router. I am going to plug it in, leave it open, and then not have any other traffic going over it, and see if that helps.
To be honest, I don't think it will. The way he has the netplay working is by having the client phone sync to the same state that the server phone is in. Essentially it's like loading a new save state every 10 seconds on the client phone, and the server phone waiting for it to catch up.
My bet is that he will continue to work on improvements. The best way to have it work would be have 2 identical phones, (processors, etc), same rom, same speeds and tweaks, and then try it on a wireless N if the phones are capable, with no other traffic on it, just the 2 phones. If that doesn't get it to run at full speed, then this is a beta feature, and we will have to wait for a better update.
I can say that games like tetris, or DR mario, although they run slow and a little choppy, are still playable, and are pretty fun, but I think something like killer instinct would be too choppy.

good luck!!!!
Any Update Yet???
No explanation why "WIFI EXTENDER HAS BEEN PUT ON HOLD UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE" not S**t sucks probably was never a working program
i know the wii and DS both do not support ad-hoc networking, and will not connect to an ad-hoc setup (i spent hours trying everything i could think of to get it to work, and nothing). that'd be epic if you guys solved that.
good luck...cant wait!
Cant wait
hopefully all is well and they get this app released as scheduled tonite......im so anxious to see how this works
Best News iv Heard all WeeK
WooHoo Iv Been Looking for a application like this i Cant WaiT als0
Oh my gawd~~!, i can not wait for this, as i finally got my new PSP, (Old one i gave to my sister). This well be an amazing addition to a lot of what Ive been frustratingly always finding myself wanting. Thanks a mega bunch!, and good luck.
But i must ask.. the technical aspect of this "WifiRouter" you guys are making. If the PS3 and PSP cant connect to an ad-hoc network, how are u rejiggering an app to make our phones broadcast a Infrastructure SSID? or is it just a modded Ad-Hoc SSID? Really i dont have any idea, tis why i ask

MAYB ITS GONNA BE LIKE THAT XLINK KAI PROGRAM.
But When you run RoadDog on the PSP With WM WifiRouter Active it does detect and shows signal strenth and adds it to your network connect but psp without roaddog does not disconnect
where do i test?
.....maybe tomoro...lol....
to the guy asking about xbox 360 support...360 already works wiw wmwifirouter
im certainly interested in the outcome of this... i currently use a tmobile web and walk ICSed thru a laptop as my main internet connection... every bar the ps3 works
since i have webnwalk max for both my mobile contract and the usb dongle, this could be the solution to my ps3 online woes

wow umm no? most of what u said made almost no sense.
Yes road dog may be able to see it, but that doesn't mean we can connect to it. so that was irrelevant.
as for the comparison, if it well be something like Xlink kai, your incredibly wrong. were not tunneling any special packets. We are tunneling an internet connection.. but that's not the point.
Thanks for even attempting to find a fix for this program. When i first found out about it, i almost jumped out of my seat only to be dissapointed when my ipod touch wouldn't connect to it. Atleast now there is some hope.

[Q] Mytouch 4g hotspot gaming on xbox?

Is there anyway for me to port forward my mytouch 4g's built in hotspot feature so that i can use it to get on my xbox and play with friends better? i can play with them now but i need to port forward because it is strict and i have trouble connecting sometimes and so i was wondering if someone can tell me how to get to that page, i know how to do it i just can't get to the correct page. I type in the ip and it says server could not resolve your request for url
it also says error 502 bad request. Please Help and thank you in advance.
And NO i cant use different internet i dont have any
Even if you could, I wouldnt rely on it to play live gaming. The ping is probably sky high! Major lag!
its really hard playing online on a console. i connect my ps3 to play cod online and its supper laggy. i only get good connection when im under around -70dbms. i can play around -85dbms but there isnt enough bandwidth. its horrible. sad to say but the mytouchs hotspot is no good for online gaming.

the only other option you have is to connect a PC to the XBox via a CAT5e cable and share the connection to the xBox, but the other two have hit the nail on the head the Ping Time is HORRIBLE, and live gaming is near impossible.

[Q] NAT

I have a driod 1 and I just rooted it and I'm using it for xbox live with wireless tether and when I test the connection on the xbox it says I need to change my NAT can anyone give me suggestions on what to do?
Usually on routers you need to open the ports on the router by going into its IP however I'm not sure if you can do that on WiFi tethering....
Ill just tell you now don't bother. all you are going to get is lag and slow downloads. And that's if Verizon doesn't catch you for the insane amounts of data its going to use. Not to hate.

i do this all the time with mt4g. You'll always have a strict nat type there is nothing you can do about that. You should be able to still play games and download updates and such with that strict nat type. the only negative on it is matchmaking will take alot longer sometimes.

True. The Android OS does not have the applications or services required to serve as a uPNP gateway, or to open and forward ports correctly. Given you could integrate such things into the phone and potentially do it manually utilizing command line, ADB, and iptables. but that is allot more work then its really worth.

Wifi in cafe needs login - Tasker?

Every day I go to my local coffee shop. When I want to connect to the net, my Nexus shows wifi points available and I choose the appropriate one for the cafe. It doesn't need a password, but it does show a webpage where you have to agree to the terms by click the Ok button.
Is there anyway to automate this, or get around this? Its such a pain in the ass! I have Tasker if that makes any difference.
Thanks,
Jon
That is called a captive portal and no.
Or called a splash page. I worked for a hotel wifi company and we used devices called "nomadix." When you connect, the device gives you an IP, then sticks you in a pending stage until you click OK or Accept on the portal page. Until then, it won't let any IP based traffic through. Usually there's a timeout that they can modify. But being in a cafe, I highly doubt it. They're probably using a walmart bought wifi router with ddwrt firmware. I know starbucks has a splash page for their wifi.
Well, there is *sort* of a way around it, but not very convenient for cafes/etc. I am currently staying at a hotel that has said portal to access the WiFi network. What I have done is connected to said WiFi network with my laptop, then utilized "connectify" to re-transmit that authorized WiFi to me and my wife's devices. Basically turning my laptop into a wireless router. Another plus is that I can set my own WEP/WPA/etc protection to the retransmitted signal. So while this may not be a solution for cafes, etc - it certainly is a fantastic one for hotels!

I believe there are a few apps in the market which can automate this for some portals, but it's basically just scraping the page and trying to guess some information to put in, etc, so it won't work 100% of the time.
I haven't used any, so no specific suggestions, but here's a few from search:
https://play.google.com/store/search?q=wifi login
i have this exact problem with the wifi in the pub i chef in. our broadband is provided by HEINEKEN beer. we also must connect then load browser window to accept terms.
the pub owner would also like it removed to allow people to auto-connect in the normal way because obviously when a customer steps outside for a ciggerette as it is illegal to smoke inside a public place in the uk now,. they would then need to keep re-connecting theyre phones/tablets...
ive managed to switch a total of 8 staff and about 25 customers to ditching ios for android there normaly at least 3 nexus 7's at any one time in my pub now :victory::victory: and our bar now also has nfc tags.
The app Wi-fi web login seems to be working for me.

Wifi Direct (P2P) vs Nsd for LAN multiplayer

Hi
I'm working on a game that will need multiplayer capabilities to it. Part of the game requires that people be in the same room, so I don't need the multiplayer to use servers to host or something like that. I'd rather have one host phone, and have other phones connect to it.
I have two options for it:
Wifi Direct or Wifi Nsd (Network Service Discovery), each have their benefits.
Using Wifi Direct, I would not need a router present, so the game would be playable everywhere, which makes that option really appealing. The problem is that there's no way to set the device's name with Wifi Direct (at least not through every api), so I wouldn't know how to discriminate between all the phones that have wifi direct enabled and find which phone is the the host and which phones aren't even running m game, but have wifi direct on for some other reason.
The current system I can think of would be something like this:
Code:
Client phone:
for(phone : AllPhonesWithWifiDirectEnabled){
connectTo(phone);
sendMessage(phone, "Are you a Host");
rMessage = receiveMessage();
if(rMessage = yes){...}
}
I hope this is understandable. It's pseudocode, of course.
Does this seem like a viable way to check, or is there something nicer? Using Nsd I can set the devicename to "MyAppClient" or "MyAppHost" + "SomeUniqueIdentifier", but the Nsd documentation is so convoluted that I could barely figrue out how to just turn it on/register on network, so I'd rather avoid it.
Thanks,
Shef_
