If you are trying to have a custom boot animation then just flash Imnuts' hacked kernel if you are on EC07. bootanimation.zip file should be in /system/media

^ There's a stock-jrn84d-nexus7-kernel.zip posted in this OP (see "Install / Optional" part way down page) : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1775798
However, I've not had any luck finding the 4.1.1 stock jro03d kernel as of yet, which I'm trying to find as a backup before flashing alternate kernels.

Stock Unsecure Boot.img
Couldnt you extract it from the oem image? Is the kernel the same thing as boot.img?
Thanks

In order for us to help you, you need to provide more details, just try to erase everything using fastboot then reflash everything:
fastboot erase system
fastboot erase userdata
Fastboot erase boot
Fastboot erase recovery
Note:you will need a rom image and a recovery image

I can't boot to fastboot

Not even fastboot? Wow, never heard of that, you will need a JTAG operation to get the system running, this will need JTAG equipment and equipment to take the N1 apart
Where can I get jtag equpment

[Q] Accept OTA on rooted custom recory?

I know someone who current has rooted and custom recovery and can't accept latest OTA.
I assume all he needs to do is flash stock recovery and he should be able to accept kitkat OTA?
Thanks in advance!
You may want to just grab the official kk update and flash the whole thing via rsd.... rsd 6.1.6.... And 4.4.2 KitKat....

He has the OTA on his device, but gets an asset failure when he tries to apply it with his custom recovery.
Are there instructions on how to apply this using the RSD method?

Just so I understand, the article talks about an SBF file? Is that the ZIP file? I looked in the zip and didn't see anything names SBF or anything...
Just boot phone to fast boot mode... Open rsd select the zip chose unpack and flash or whatever the option is and let it do its thing I'm at work so that was just the first link I found when I googled it
