Hi
There are rumours floating around that Samsung is in the process of putting wp7 on SGS2 ( maybe a variant of it)
So was wondering if they did bring out one would it be possible to port wp7 onto out SGS2 sinse it would be the same hardware.
I would like to dual boot if possible( like the HTC HD2 ).. what do you guys think ?
cnet link Here
I've tried WP7 on both native and non-native devices and believe me, it works better on native devices, just like Android does.
Besides, it's fugly and too new to be even considered as an alternative to Android. Also, if it's a non-native device then you could have issues with registering it to its full capabilities.
And finally, I don't believe a word of that article. Sounds to me like someone's come out from under a bridge, looking for snacks.
* DANG DoUBLE POST * Didnt see the other post#
ANyways
I kinda like WP7 as I have HTC HD7 and I just love the facebook , twitter and email on my HD7, I still think android is not that good for emails
The only reason I love android more is cause of the apps, and googlemaps and the great old flash junkie in me which make me want android.
But yeah If some DEV does port it, it would be great ......
Oh I might be a happy bunny once I install mango as it seems to iron out some of the few problems currently WP7 user's have
I'd be interested in doing this. I would like to get on the development scene... Funny, I was thinking this the other day!
First, I have to build a basic C# app... Damn you High-School for taking my time!
Since I tried out Launcher 7 as my launcher and UberMusic as my music player, I've been very interested in having a proper WindowsPhone. If the clones are this good, how good should the original OS be?
It's looking very likely that I will be owning a WP7 device, if they open up the system. If I have to jailbreak to get basic things done like on iPhone, it's not even an option.

Sorry to open the grave but.. is there an custom rom, which looks like windows phone 7?

WP7 is actually pretty good. Stop being an Android fanboy.
It would be real treasure if Samsung gave us option to change our OS to Android or WP7 anytime we like...
This is basically the GS2 with WP7, minus the dual core processor.
Samsung Focus S - Pretty nice looking phone, probably one of the best of the new Mango phones.

right guys ive been off here for a year or so last time i was here the touch por was the in phone to have, since then i have been on a iphone.but iam thinking of geting a hd2. now what i wanna know is are they worth it. with android etc coming out for it. is it a good buy.
You might want to read more. Android will not be truly ready for a long while. Sure it might boot now but with it crashing with in minutes it's still not really usable. Then there will be the issues with it not being able to use all of the hardware. So I would never look at Android being able to be an everyday OS for the HD2, just something to play with on the side.
if your in the USA and you want Android why not buy a EVO
I came from a touch pro to the HD2 and have mates (many) with iphones and also a few with android phones... I reckon it all comes down to;
1. whether the phone does everything you want
2. in a way that pleases you
3. with a good ownership experience
All my apps I take from phone to phone are obviously WM based and I must have outlook sync-ability as the phone's used as much for work as play so I've never been tempted to jump to android or iphone...
But I have to say the HD2, in a long line of WM based phones, is the best I have ever used, is quick and fulfills my needs with aplomb and poise never seen before...
Every time I grab my HD2 to use it I am pleased I have it...
Whether its a good buy is determined by how much you want to spend on it and whether it meets your needs...
i had the touch por as a phone and a toy to play with eg android on it, now i can change my iphone for a hd2 it will cost me a extra 30 quid.i have never had any issues with xdas, but iphone is a problematic phone with signal and not getting txt.so far i have had 11 xdas and loved them so think this will be the right one, i just wanted some advice and yet again you guys have said wot i thought. so thank u all.
tmorro night i might have a hd2
happy times.
ps yes i know about android not being right yet but iam willing to wait for it
Hi
I have always used windows mobile devices, i love it, but a lot of people hate it. Its like marmite i guess. If you are in the love camp then the hd2 is by far the best device yet. The sense interface is great, adding speed to getting to what you want to get at. The only thing i would say is a custom rom based around wm 6.5.x is a must. It adds the needed finger friendless, 6.5 still feels like it needs a stylus. Come on HTC i now you are reading, Bring us a official 6.5.x update!!
So if you are down with windows mobile and love the ability to tweak it the way you want it (but with hours on xda dev) Then The HD2 is the way to go! I love Mine
If you hate it by a nexus one or desire.
Peace

Congrats on the the HD2 ....
I really think all NeoGreendawg was trying to say , in his gentlest of ways, was , "There is a sticky at the top of just about every forum(except this one of course) that says, "Please Post Questions in the Q&A Section" or something like that, to be honest not really sure what would qualify as General ...... ...
But I digress, Again Congrats on the HD2, and Happy 4th!!
Things like this is one reason why people are migrating to htcpedia which is a shame because it is nothing on XDADEV. If you have nothing helpful to say about a perfectly sensible question, then why post?
There is nothing wrong with your question. As watcher64 pointed out there is no sticky, so there was no harm in asking.
We are all here to help each other, i thought that was the whole point of this forum.
Hope you are happy with the HD2.
Peace.
Is it possible to put iOS4 on the evo and have a dualboot one for Android and the other for iOS4

The iphone is one cheap silicone case away from being very very good hardware. Just buy an iphone (and a cheap case) if you want ios.
why would anyone in their right mind want to poison their evo with apple's software???
No is just good to have different things on a phone
What is it about iOS4 that you can't get on the EVO/Android? My brother has the iPhone4, & there is nothing he has that i couldn't find in the Marketplace.
If you're looking for something specific, i'm sure you can find an Android version of it.
Don't kill the OP
Come on guys, it's a legit question (even if it might seem pretty blasphemous to us). As for the original question, if you want to dual boot, there's potential to put any Open Source OS on just about any hardware. If you want to have a closed source OS (like iOS, WinMo, WebOS, Blackberry OS [oh dear God WHY?!], Mac OSX Leopard, etc...) on your hardware, you'll pretty much have that pre-installed on the device. That's why you can put Android onto the HTC HD2, but you can't put WinMo 6.5 on the EVO 4G.
Bottom line, if you want iOS4 + Android, you'll have to buy an iPhone if you even want a chance. I don't think they have it working yet, but I know they've ported Froyo to the older hardware, so it might just be a matter of time.
Forum reeks of fanboyism. Simple question required a simple answer. The evo is far from a perfect phone... If that was the case.. I wouldn't have to root it and play tricks on my battery just to make it last longer than 5 hours. Android wouldn't be where it is today if it wasn't how iOS changed the way we look at smart phones. And apps that aren't on the android? bejeweled 2, angry birds, words with friends, a half decent facebook app, espn score center is terrible on the droid as well... I could go on... Both phones have their flaws.but I can see why the interest in wanting a dual boot phone. more than likely not happening anytime soon if not at all.

right, out of the 85k apps in the market place, absolutely none of them are good for anybody whatsoever, which explains why no one downloads anything from the market anymore, and also explains why android is definitely not catching up to iOS.

You know, you don't have to be an Apple fanboy (or girl) to want to see if this can be done. It's like trying to solve a puzzle. I really wouldn't want an iphone, but hacking iOS4 onto an Android phone would be fun. And, there are some apps for the iphone that don't exist in the Android Market.
BTW, I have a Dell Mini 9 that runs Snow Leopard just fine. Am I in love with Apple? Not really, though I have an iMac, as well as Windoze boxes and Linux, too. I'm posting from Linux on my dual boot Aspire One, wirelessly tethered to my Evo. I think I'm gonna try the Ubuntu hack for my Evo next. It's all about choices.

Cotulla as done his work in NAND project, like he did in SPL and HSPL, now the issues of wifi must be done by other devs, because in cotulla device works fine.

Awesome, I've been waiting for this. It will be an easier full-fledged Linux distro to use on our hd2s than ubuntu, as its meant for phones.

if its the nokia modified image I will be a very satisfied camper (have you seen it? I mean my god it looks amazing)
but meego in itself is a good thing on our hd2...I can't wait because this is a true linux mobile OS to grace our phones
I heard there were issues in the 3d department from qualcomm so I'm not sure how it will function on the hd2
on the n1 it is a bit slow...

Search Google. It's a high end Linux based phone OS being developed by Nokia and Intel. Unlike android, its a full fledged Linux distro, and is designed for small screens, so its another good option of phone OS that we could run on our hd2s. It will be great to have wm6.5, android, ubuntu, meego, and wp7 all able to boot on our phones. It gives a lot of choice.

Ok, let me start out by saying my knowledge is minimal as I'm currently an iPhone user. However, I plan on picking up an HD2 and modding the hell out of it. So, my question would be: Is there a way to use HTC Sense UI on HD2? Or is it only the new phones labeled with an S? Like HTC's new lineup coming out I believe there is three phones, which I could care less about at the moment. Meaning, I wouldn't jump to it to have the Sense UI work I'll stick with HD2 because of it's modding capabilities. Thanks.
The HD2 has sense as standard.
In either WM 6.5 or Android flavour if you want it........
6.5 is better though.... but shhhhhh you cant get away with saying things like that anymore

You can have HTC Sense "V1" which is what the Evo, Desire, Incredible come with. It's got the Sense clock and animated weather and big sleek HTC widgets.
there are also HTC Sense "V2" which is Desire HD/Z and Incredible S. This is the Sense where you can change the skin whenever you want and there are a bunch of awesome ones, support for more widgets, access to HTC hub, flip clock, and really nice eye candy.
WM6.5
also has "sense" which is the sense flip clock, animated weather, and a really nice UI experience, especially if you flash a custom ROM with cookie home tab where you can really modify things and basically add widgets.
iOS.
don't forget on iOS you can jailbreak it and have a nice Sense theme going, and even animated weather just like HTC sense, this is if you plan to keep your iPhone while you rock the HD2.

I'm going to keep both and switch simcards as I feel necessary. IF everything goes according to plan that is. The version 2 is able to be install / used on HD2? I want the ability to flip my phone upside down and it turn to vibrate mode. That's so neat. And of course other things that is may have to offer. So my thinking is, maybe you could put it on HD2, but that the new phones will have it to begin with. Or, it will only be available on new phones, which would suck.

not that sort of unlocking. There is no free way to network unlock a hd2, other than by getting a code from the network it came from, or buying one online.
You will have read about rom unlocking, meaning you can flash, but that would still be network locked.

I have no idea why you would even want to do that, what a waste of a perfectly good phone that would be. Android SUCKS, having said that I'm fairly certain nobody has done that yet (and even if they did manage to, it will be plagued with driver issues). If you are really serious about running Android stuff on it, I would look at the Android for Windows bridge, some people have got a bunch of apps running on top of win10m.

Does that explain why windows phone has 80% market share? Oh wait...
recently MS released WM10 roms for mi phones which worked really well , so if we are able to tweak those roms and firmware , we might be able to port them to other android devices
I would rather looking forward to run Windows 10 Mobile on Android Device.

I hope we see growth in this type of emulation. Just look at Winulator. That project had so much promise but it was just 1 guy and he abandoned it citing problems with piracy. If that app was perfected you could literally run 99% of directx games ever made natively on any decently powered Android device without having to buy a Surface or some other overpriced MS product. MS still has the gaming industry by the balls, has been that way since we were forced to go to windows 95 because games were developed that wouldn't run on 3.11 anymore.
You can install ANDROID on Lumia Devices now https://youtu.be/cRt575WRzt8

In my opinion you should not convert your windows phone to an android. Rather you should buy a new android phone. But if you really are not open to buying a new one so try this Android View App. In this way you can at least get the Android UI on your windows phone.

uh yeah you pretty much can. depends on what you mean by "live tiles" but there are def launchers with live icons and if you really wanted to you could code a live tile launcher that works exactly the same without too much trouble. i had a nokia lumina 710 running wp7 years ago. it was an awful piece of garbage. there was no app development for it at all (not even instagram lol) and even after modding there was very little you could do with it. im sure the platform has progressed since then but nothing beats the huge amount of rom and app dev for android. android is definitely the most flexible and capable mobile operating system but i wouldnt mind having a little side chick windows phone to play with.
as for OP.....yeah probably not gonna happen anytime soon. nobody has time to completely rewrite all the drivers and kernels and firmware and what not from the ground up as is necessary for running an operating system that is systemically varied from the software the hardware was made with in mind. someone mentioned that there was some kind of official builds for some devices and they are right its possible those roms could be ported or something, def your best hope but dont hold your breath
