Ok, let me start out by saying my knowledge is minimal as I'm currently an iPhone user. However, I plan on picking up an HD2 and modding the hell out of it. So, my question would be: Is there a way to use HTC Sense UI on HD2? Or is it only the new phones labeled with an S? Like HTC's new lineup coming out I believe there is three phones, which I could care less about at the moment. Meaning, I wouldn't jump to it to have the Sense UI work I'll stick with HD2 because of it's modding capabilities. Thanks.
The HD2 has sense as standard.
In either WM 6.5 or Android flavour if you want it........
6.5 is better though.... but shhhhhh you cant get away with saying things like that anymore

Thanks for the reply. I can't wait to get this phone! W00t W00t. I saw an article from a search I did referencing XDA forums to UNLOCK the HD2. I have AT&T currently that's why.

You can have HTC Sense "V1" which is what the Evo, Desire, Incredible come with. It's got the Sense clock and animated weather and big sleek HTC widgets.
there are also HTC Sense "V2" which is Desire HD/Z and Incredible S. This is the Sense where you can change the skin whenever you want and there are a bunch of awesome ones, support for more widgets, access to HTC hub, flip clock, and really nice eye candy.
WM6.5
also has "sense" which is the sense flip clock, animated weather, and a really nice UI experience, especially if you flash a custom ROM with cookie home tab where you can really modify things and basically add widgets.
iOS.
don't forget on iOS you can jailbreak it and have a nice Sense theme going, and even animated weather just like HTC sense, this is if you plan to keep your iPhone while you rock the HD2.

I'm going to keep both and switch simcards as I feel necessary. IF everything goes according to plan that is. The version 2 is able to be install / used on HD2? I want the ability to flip my phone upside down and it turn to vibrate mode. That's so neat. And of course other things that is may have to offer. So my thinking is, maybe you could put it on HD2, but that the new phones will have it to begin with. Or, it will only be available on new phones, which would suck.

yeah the Desire HD and the Incredible S come with this stock, but we have custom ROMs for the HD2 which do the same thing and more;
here's an example of a ROM you can flash on your HD2, check out the screenshots and video

not that sort of unlocking. There is no free way to network unlock a hd2, other than by getting a code from the network it came from, or buying one online.
You will have read about rom unlocking, meaning you can flash, but that would still be network locked.
Well off topic, but I like you. You can read.
Majority of new users in this forum can't read, and it annoys the hell out of me. But you're different, you're willing to read and abide by the rules. So I think modding the HD2 won't be hard for you since you're able to read. So best of luck, hope you enjoy WP7, android and winmo.

But even admitting that WAS indeed a CG'ed HD2, how would it confirm we're getting a WinMo7 update?

Seen as there are no phones released for WP7 they had to use some sort of prop for the video!
from the still of the video, I'd say it's either not an HD2 (you can guess only from camera lens and leds), or they went so far as to model it to look thicker and with "rounder" edges.
Still, the fact that they did so much to camouflage it being an HD2 (admitting it actually is), if nothing else, proves that they didn't want to give too many hopes about hd2 getting WM7,otherwise it would have been a good idea to take the most succesful WM device on the market right now and put it in a WM7 video...
Sure, but I have no doubt that WM7 will be running on the HD2 soon after release (if not before.) It uses a newer version of the Windows CE core, so it isn't that inconceivable that it will find its way to the HD2, one way or another. Not sure what all the fuss is about, really. After seeing the videos, the interface is not that great. It is better than 6.5, but Microsoft has NEVER been known for its design strength or esthetic sense. Sure, the guy who was a designer for Nike is responsible for it, but how much do tennis shoes and cellular phone UI's have in common?
I hate the fact that MS has decided to take the position that they have with regard to the UI, but if history shows us anything, this "limit" will mean nothing. Any barrier they put up will eventually be crossed by someone.
I still think that Sense is the best mobile UI experience, and I really like it on the HD2. Microsoft has publicly stated that they will continue development on WM 6.5, so I hope that it gets updated, along with Sense, to preserve what is special about the HD2 user experience. It's just cool, and it does everything I needed my phone to do... even more so with custom ROMs.

Looks like an iPhone to me
A mocked up photo no more means an upgrade for the HD2 than a mocked up photo of a car on the moon means that it is capable of space flight!
Leaks aside, I can't see HTC rushing to provide an upgrade for a device that will be nudging a year old come the time WM7 hits the market. It's rather more likely that MS are teeing up device manufacturers for the next generation of phones. Any link to the HD2, even tenuous ones like the phone in the video, may be because the HD2 is one of very few devices capable of running their alpha/proof of concept.
As to whether I actually want the upgrade...looks OK-ish but seems to be moving too far towards the 'I won't like it if it's too hard and needs me to think for myself' brigade of Apple-loving iWhingers for my tastes. Of course this is all still essentially speculation.
lucky we got htc sence because the OS 7 interface looks ugly
if wm7 doesnot support other ui ,then all the years of development done by htc untill reaching htc sense 2.5 will be threw to rubbish as all future htc phones will not have htc sense , may be hd2 is the last device to use sense 2.5 in htc windows product line ,

there is always potential for windows 6.7 upgrade for future devices
There actually will be concurrent and continued development of WM 6.5, per Microsoft's direct statements, and Sense UI will continue to be used in other platforms, most notably, Android, so Sense is safe for the foreseeable future. I don't think HTC will scrap it, nor should they do so.
I love the Sense UI, and I wish that MS would adopt it as the stock UI in WM7, but they never asked me.
Seriously, can you imagine how it could be improved if it wasn't just a skin, but actually a part of the OS itself?
Sorry, but the Xperia X1 has been also in WM6.5-promos and it has never got an update...

WP7 just barely works during some of the video presentations I've seen today. In a couple of the videos, the presenter had to go back to the home panel a few times and try again or just continue on to the next feature.
It might be December before it comes out and then most of you guys will be lusting after the HD3.
Isn't HTC going to have a press event tomorrow at MWC? Maybe someone will ask a question on whether or not the HD2 will receive an upgrade to WP7?

personally i like the look of sense but it seems to kill the battery and slow the phone down, also chews up ram. i actually don't mind running vanilla with a droid or nexus themed launcher. im hoping when we do get the official 2.1 some of the devs here will not include sense in their roms.
so do you run sense or not?
I like vanilla android.. (darkstar theme) but currently using helix launcher..with weather widgets donate.. better cut for icons.. I do like sense.. but agree i think it does chew up ram and slow the phone down alot worse then my combo above.
I run Sense..................
havent ran sense since darchstar v1
I like Sense.
Sence is the reason i bought the Hero and not the Moment.
I like Sense, despite any performance drains. It's the main reason that I got a Hero.
But my last phone was a Touch Diamond, and the Hero is pretty much a Diamond with android; at least in a general form-factor/interface sense.
Sense was one reason I got this phone over the moment, and I only heard bad review about the moment.
I general don't use sense. I like the music app for it and the lockscreen, but thats about it.
Waiting for v2 of darchdroid to be a daily then i ditch legend again

Exactly, I bought the Hero for Sense UI.
I bought ther Hero because of Sense UI. I wonder why people got the Hero if the moment is basically the same without sense. Could be because the styling is better, IMO. I just like the look of sense.
To each, his own.
However with all the apps out there you can almost get vanilla to look like sense. But, the setup I have on my phone it's pretty damn quick. Every once in a while there is a quirk here or there, but overall I fell it is better.

kinda pointless as every current winmo rom has sense anyways, it's not just android specific now. i bought the hero because it's android, i hated winmo and of course the android market is pure win! the hero without sense is super fast.
Sense is nice with all the widgets, but it bogs the hell out of a phone that already is stingy on RAM to begin with... honestly i don't use all that social network ingtegrated Sense stuff which is HTC's claim to fame for Sense cuz it's easier for me just to get on the mobile version of the website nd view everything from there. Nd like someone else said, vanilla can be practically customized to like almost like Sense so the looks definitely don't woo me. Also remember Sense is the reason why we don't have 2.1 yet... i wish they would release the vanilla version for those who chose to run it instead.
I've had the moment and the the hero now, i prefer the hero, but use helix. seems a bit faster and i like the fact the home screen rotates. Hell with swype ya dont even need a keyboard anymore.

I think you somehow managed to completely miss my point. Please attempt to improve your reading comprehension skills, thank you.
I have never had that bad of a problem with lag besides the stock rom. Once you put on almost any custom rom most if not all of the issues are gone. I got the phone for sense and never turn it off.
I use Sense
Partially because I really like the look over stock boring Android, I mean really, it looks like early linux gui's or old versions of windows, boxy and plain. I also am a salesman by profession right now, I have to sell the silly thing, and coming up this summer, I will hopefully be selling the Evo too, which I'm quite excited about.
I normally would be one to trim everything for speed. I don't run ANY of the 'windows xp look' stuff on my XP based laptop because its too slow, I shut off most of the eye-candy in Linux because its too slow, but on a phone.. I kinda like it to look nice, the HTC widgets are downright schmexy.
I use sense, because its much sleeker to demo for a customer, and because it is smooth enough (on custom ROM's at least...) and visually appealing enough to use on a daily basis.
I dont use sense because it doesnt seem to like JIT at all. Nothing htc likes it.
I was thinking, since HTC overlays android with Sense, What's the point of us getting 2.3? Except the AOSP roms. Shouldn't we just be more excited for the new sense to come besides 2.3?
From what I understand, the 2.3 update is more under the hood than aesthetic... So while it'll look the same (save for a few animations, like the CRT outro), you'll get marginally better performance out of everything. The menus might look a little cleaner but you're right, there isn't going to be a lot that you'll be able to SEE in the update.
That said, your Android experience will be a little better. Faster processing, hopefully better battery life, etc. That's the stuff you should look forward to.
I just want the new HTC Sense.

I wasn't all that impressed when we got the update to 2.2. I guess the build up before release had me thinking that it was going to be a lot different than it turned out to be. That said, now that I have got used to the new features in 2.2, their is no way I could go back to 2.1. I have a hunch that the 2.3 experience will be the same.
Well, you have to consider that we have HTC Sense UI to contend with. I'm sure if you ask Nexus One users (running AOSP and not bogged down by manufacturers), they'll most definitely tell you a different story. My friends with the N1 think 2.2 is great since their phones fly now (literally...jk). I think one of them said he gets like 35ish MFLOPS on linpack compared to only around 7 on 2.1 before. Anyways, hardware limits aside, just like 2.2 brought Flash-support, battery optimization, and few other improvements...I'm sure Gingerbread 2.3 will bring some excitement to the table. Don't knock it yet.

if you install 2.3 gingerbread you will not have senseUI any longer as Google is doing the same thing that Microsoft and Apple are now doing, not allowing any third party overlays. If you want to keep senseUI then stick with 2.2 or wait for someone to jailbreak 2.3 and void your warranty. I plan to install 2.3 when it is available but will miss senseUI. But Google wants 2.3 and above to be a premium device with a consistent user interface experience. Currently their are several different user experiences which give different experiences to the same user. This needs to stop. Look at Apple and MS with Windows Phone 7. If an Android user picks up one phone they should be able to pick up any other android phone and be able to use it with out having to learn a different interface such as TouchWIZ or SenseUI. Granted I love SenseUI but I believe in what Google is doing by uniting them. This is also being done to stop fragmentation as well.

HTC SENSEUI
Launcher 2.x for Android 2.1+
As you can see their is no common user interface, which does not give a common user expierence like Apple does. And no i do not love apple.

Personally, I think that HTC will simply shift their focus slightly. Unstead of having a full UI overlay, they may have device proprietary widgets to continue the sense feel on stock android shell.

Hi,
I updated my xbox 360 dashboard a while ago, and I was completely blown away by the new 'kinect dashboard' graphic style. I decided, this is what I want my smartphone to look like. I'm sure most of you agree with me, stock android is ugly, sense is too fancy and glossy looking, and Windows Phone 7 looks awesome, but a bit too plain. So I think I've found a perfect inbetween, ''Kinect Phone''. (working title obviously) I tried to imitate the kinect graphic style a bit, without completely copying it, and tried to adapt it to look good on a smartphone. I've finnished a home screen mockup a while ago, and I'm currently working hard to theme the framework completely. I will only release this when it's completely finnished, and probably first on the HD2, since it's the only phone I own. I made some mockup images a while ago, please note the below screenshots are quite old, and the theme has progressed quite a bit, but I don't want to ruin the suprise . Here they are:

This graphic overhaul will hopefully feature:
- A completely skinned version of Android
- A completely skinned launcher
- Skinned applications
- Different themes (e.g. Watchmen, Red Dead Redemption (as shown in screenshots), Black Ops etc.)
- Animated Widgets (some help here?)
- Different hubs (stock ones will be: Home, Social, Media, Games, Office and Internet)
- Custom sound scheme
- A large collection of wallpapers and icons.
Things which are already done (as of 24/12/2010):
- Custom launcher with custom widgets
- Boot screen
- A couple of themed apps (settings, browser, messaging and gmail)
- Found a way to realize different themes
- A large psd document with a lot of graphics which will be used
Things I need help with:
- A windows mobile version
- Animated widgets (home++ seems to have this, but I'm not using home++ for a number of reasons)
- Changing the system font to Segoe WP
This overhaul takes elements from:
- Sense (The clock and some ideas)
- Windows Phone 7 (icons)
- Android (unavoidable I suppose)
- XBOX 360 Kinect dashboard
Themeing android is quite simple, as opposed to Windows Mobile. As I'd love to release a Windows Mobile version (Cookies Home Tab 2.0 has a lot of potential) does someone have some useful information about themeing it?
This thread's purpose is to get your opinions, and help of course

I'll make it possible, but I'll only release it when I'm 100% satisfied, no half-assing here

You could always install the Android SDK on your PC so you can run an emulator

No idea, and I didn't know you'd need a custom ROM or I wouldn't have suggested it. Will people need to use a specific build to use your theme then?
Hi
There are rumours floating around that Samsung is in the process of putting wp7 on SGS2 ( maybe a variant of it)
So was wondering if they did bring out one would it be possible to port wp7 onto out SGS2 sinse it would be the same hardware.
I would like to dual boot if possible( like the HTC HD2 ).. what do you guys think ?
cnet link Here
I've tried WP7 on both native and non-native devices and believe me, it works better on native devices, just like Android does.
Besides, it's fugly and too new to be even considered as an alternative to Android. Also, if it's a non-native device then you could have issues with registering it to its full capabilities.
And finally, I don't believe a word of that article. Sounds to me like someone's come out from under a bridge, looking for snacks.
* DANG DoUBLE POST * Didnt see the other post#
ANyways
I kinda like WP7 as I have HTC HD7 and I just love the facebook , twitter and email on my HD7, I still think android is not that good for emails
The only reason I love android more is cause of the apps, and googlemaps and the great old flash junkie in me which make me want android.
But yeah If some DEV does port it, it would be great ......
Oh I might be a happy bunny once I install mango as it seems to iron out some of the few problems currently WP7 user's have
I'd be interested in doing this. I would like to get on the development scene... Funny, I was thinking this the other day!
First, I have to build a basic C# app... Damn you High-School for taking my time!
Since I tried out Launcher 7 as my launcher and UberMusic as my music player, I've been very interested in having a proper WindowsPhone. If the clones are this good, how good should the original OS be?
It's looking very likely that I will be owning a WP7 device, if they open up the system. If I have to jailbreak to get basic things done like on iPhone, it's not even an option.

Sorry to open the grave but..
Sorry to open the grave but.. is there an custom rom, which looks like windows phone 7?
If not, it is impossible to create one, looking like it?
Greetings

WP7 is actually pretty good. Stop being an Android fanboy.
It would be real treasure if Samsung gave us option to change our OS to Android or WP7 anytime we like...
This is basically the GS2 with WP7, minus the dual core processor.
Samsung Focus S - Pretty nice looking phone, probably one of the best of the new Mango phones.
