My brother and his wife are taking there first step to smartphones out of all the at&t snartphones would it be safe to say everyone here would recommend atrix or would u recommened something else also I need some key factors to swing them toward the recommendations thanks for all responses

I'm sure the majority of the people on the Atrix forum would recommend the Atrix. Just as the majority of the people on the Inspire forum would recommend the Inspire.
It's all about what you need, and what you want. We can't answer that for your friends.
I personally recommend waiting if possible. The Iphone 5 will be out soon, followed by some pretty rock solid android phones that will most likely top the iphone spec wise. Also, I would recommend giving Verizon a chance. Verizons network is much larger and now- much faster than ATT (4g LTE vs 3g+). I feel like I've been duped by Att by their claimes of offering 4g speeds, which led me to buy the Atrix on their network. The Atrix is a power house of a phone, but ATT has much catching up to do in terms of establishing a true 4g network.
If that isn't much of a concern, the Atrix is going for dirt cheap right now and is well worth it at this price point.
Just my two cents.

If you cant wait for the new Nexus or iPhone 5 (4s?) than go with the atrix. It kills anything right now. If it was me I would get the wife the iphone 4 since its simple, clean and pretty. Woman like that. Then get the atrix for yourself.
If they are not on a budget I would let them get 2 unlocked phones (Samsung galaxy S II) would be my choice.
If they must have a phone now I would recommend the Samsung infuse or the iPhone 4.
To be honest like another said, ill wait because once the summer is over more good phones like the iPhone 5 and many fantastic android phones are to come. Plus wp7 is also going to get better.

No question... [Samsung?] Nexus "Prime"... freaking Ice Cream Sandwich!!! All you have to do is wait till about November
Otherwise, if it has to been soon, I'd go Atrix or Samsung Attain (a/k/a Galaxy SII), which should be out this month.
If she doesn't want an iPhone, get her an Atrix. The infuse and inspire are already outdated specs.
I have an Atrix, my wife got the Inspire. Both of us are very happy with what we have. I wanted something more technologically advanced to tinker with, while she isn't interested in even having root, (although I will persuade her so I can "tinker" very soon)! She likes the extra screen real estate, and has had no issues other than when she mistakenly downloaded a new launcher and didn't know why her screens, icons, etc. were all messed up. I uninstalled the launcher and she was once again happy.
The Atrix feels just like my iPhone 3GS did in my hand, both weight and form, so I very comfortably made the change in that respect. I've learned a lot in the last few months about Android, and this is a lot more fun than iOS if you don't mind getting frustrated every now and then.
I would say if he wants to play with his phone and try all the possibilities there are, and will be, he should go with the Atrix, or wait until the next super innovation is released. If his wife is not so tech savvy, she should get something like the Inspire. Don't buy 2 Atrix if he plans on doing the modding to both phones would be my opinion, as it can be very time consuming sometimes getting back from a bricked condition, and he doesn't want twice the work. Screwing up is innevitable...........it will happen...........it will be more than once! LOL
iphone for the less technical and prestige conscious.
Atrix for those who like to tinker, wish they could tinker, enjoy falling into tinker zones.
As just a phone, any phone can work. This phone is a powerhouse. It's not just a phone. (Ha, they say that about all of them, nowadays.)
there is also the rumoured phone
the HTC Holiday and HTC Lead
Holiday could be the first AT&T LTE phone

So, here's the situation... My contract is up with Sprint and trying to decide whether to stay or go. If I decide to stay with Sprint will probably go with the EVO 3d, want to stay loyal to the EVO, best phone ever. Or should I have a change of heart and go with something else or even swap out to another carrier? Too many choices.
Q: What would you do and what Phone would you get next???
Well why don't u just wait for the EVO 3d to come out and read the reviews ....if its good the buy it....if jot the go with another phone like the nexus s or maybe a different carrier.
Pick your carrier, pick one that gives you good service for the price and value for where you live. That should always be your number one concern when it comes to a cell phone, not which phone you want.
You need to decide that before you start getting phone recommendations.
I think if you are up for upgrade and your contract also ends soon, like Pao23 said, first make sure you are with a carrier that offers good service. People talk about AT&T being terrible, but I live in North Carolina and the service is about as good as any since Cingular started in this area. Sprint is pretty good where I live, except terrible at my office. If I was out of contract I would change.
In terms of phone I think any of the 1Ghz+ dual core phones are a smart buy. Evo 3D, LG 2x, or even the Atrix. Any of those are going to be like the Evo and not feel old for a while. They will probably get more OS updates. Anything older is going to leave you wanting in a year.
That has been the nice thing about the Evo. The Droid X, Droid 2, Inspire 4G, MyTouch 4G, Atrix, etc. have all come out, but never left me feeling like my phone was old and janky.
Not sure about u but sprint has the best deal I think. I pay 69.99 + 10.00 -23% off for me and +5.00 for sprint to home. So the sprint to home goes to my google voice number and with the google voice app every call I make is free. And like others say at&t stinks I think, I live in MN. And with the new HTC Evo coming out that should make you want to stay lol.
The only other provider to think about would be t mobile unless you want to pay big money. I dont love sprint but I sure got a good deal and the service is great here.

Sorry for OT, but everything good after the Tornados?
I vote either G2x or Evo 3d, but either way I would wait until the 3d comes out to decide.
Like others said, depends on which carrier gets good service where you are.

the Evo is still a great phone. I don't game so I haven't found an app which is slow or that makes me want to upgrade. The Evo has a fantastic dev community and I'm thinking I will wait until I really need to upgrade. The longer you wait, the better the phones that are available.

I heard the iPhone 5 will have a 4" screen, after Jobs was doggin on phones with larger screens. Anyways im definitely upgrading. I have two upgrades on two lines, so I may get the nexus S then the E3d when that drops. My kids always get my hand me down phones so they are excited also.

Stay with the Evo
If Sprint gets an iPhone I'm out of the Android game.
I would wait until a month after the 3D launches and troll the forums for any issues that may come up. Once the excitement settles you'll see threads pop up with flaws and issues.

I voted stay with sprint and keep the Evo. It's still one of the highest rated phones on the market, and the best phone for Sprint (assuming you like sense or don't like slide-outs). Sprint may not have the best coverage but they are so much cheaper than anyone else in the contract game. When the Evo 3D comes out I may trade my Evo in for it, but that depends on the reviews.
I would probably wait unless you wanted to switch carriers. Let the dual cores roll out so can see what's up with them.
Perhaps we will see a dual core nexus
I really need help on my decision to upgrade my phone.
Now, I can wait. I'm not in too much of a rush. I just want to know if I'll be truly satisfied if I upgrade now.
Especially people who already got the Atrix, if they have any regrets, do share.
Just read that AT&T and Samsung are holding a special event May 5! SGS2!!!!!! I guess I'll wait lmao.

I would say wait for a while...there will be a number of new phones out by the time the iPhone 5 comes out.
If you really can't wait, which was my case, go to Best Buy and get either the Atrix or the Inspire. I got the Atrix there for $100 as an upgrade. I have 30 days to return it and no restocking fee lol I most likely will return it before my 30 days are up, but at least I tried it.
Get the Atrix now.
Skip the atrix. I made a mistake buying it right when it first came out. I reget not waiting for the S2.
I feel like the Atrix had potential, but it came short. There's so many mixed opinions on it.
I really hope Samsung announces either the SGS2 or the Nexus S 4G on Thursday. I really want a new phone. I think I'm done being an iPhone user. It sucks when EVERYONE has one.

I had the iPhone 4 and got rid of it before my 30 days cause I felt tied down! I got the Captivate instead and it was great! I felt free to do as I pleased! but it's main issue was the lack of updates and horrible gps...now I'm trying the Atrix and it is amazing compared to other phones I've had! This phone is quick and the battery lasts for a long time! My only issues with it is that I don't like the cameras, power button location and people don't hear me clearly (maybe that is a software issue). If those things were fixed then it would be the greatest phone lol
Personally the Atrix is worth it I love it locked bootloader and all its a beast! Every phone coming out is a wannabe sgs2 overclocked just to keep up, lg optimus 2 bleh its half the man the Atrix is lol, and what else is out there nothing everything else is a 1ghz whimp lol. But I would say wait. I didn't wait to get my lg quantum and a month later att was selling it for a penny yes a penny and waiving the upgrade fee. Boy did I feel like I had been robbed, and att is nutorious for doing stunts like that so again Id say wait a bit.
But thats just my 2 cents
Sent from my Atrix
I just switched over to the Atrix this weekend from the iPhone 4, and i wouldn't even consider another apple phone after playing with android. you are so tied down, and limited on the iphone its stupid. I just wished I would have gotten a android phone sooner.
I'm going be switching from Nexus s to atrix, I'm really excited
I just switched from an iPhone 3GS and I already really like it (I've only had it two days, but I had it set up to my liking in a few hours. I would like to eventually root it, but I may give it the 30 day return window just in case).
Everything seems just as smooth and fast (some things faster) as my mom's iPhone 4. There are some things android does better, some things iPhone does better.
To me, the main drawback is the locked bootloader. To me, that impacts the future value of the phone (both for resale and for use). I guess that doesn't matter as much if you upgrade every year, but I don't tend to.
It really comes down to what you're upgrading from.
I had no choice as I had a busted crapberry storm work/personal phone that no longer registered my keystrokes and going back to an crackberry 8830 as my work / personal phone wasn't going to cut it, so I decided to go for the Atrix as my personal phone.
No regrets & plenty of satisfaction as it's my first Android phone that was built for Android But if the Samsung Galaxy S II comes out within the next 15 days, my Atrix goes back for an exchange
Forget the atrix, go for the galaxy s2. As soon as my s2 arrives my atrix is going on ebay. Screw this locked bootloader business. Also, the screen is crap

Well I'm disappointed with samsung's announcement today. I was really hoping for the gs2. The infuse is way too big and the specs aren't what I wanted. I might just wait until the iPhone 5 and compare my choices then between the android phones out at the time and the new iPhone.

awesome, cant wait
While I hate the locked bootloader and the slow-going data speed improvements, I knew about them before I got the phone and I have had very few issues with the atrix performing as it should. However many developers there are for this phone, they have made the modifications that are possible easy to implement and help work through bugs very willingly. Granted, I am coming from the samsung eternity- and I am embarrassed to admit that- but this forum has given me hope that this phone can reach its potential. I got an early upgrade at no extra cost, would not even be upgrade eligible today, so I was locked in with at &t but knew I could never be an apple tart. The car dock rocks the house, errrr, car.

Well, I have an iPhone 3GS. My upgrade isn't until August but my mom's account is due for an upgrade. I'm not sure if I want to keep going with an iPhone but supposedly Apple is going to do a new UI and it might have a 4" screen which is perfect. Android has really been interesting me. My favorite thing is the notification system. It's just so perfect. I'm probably gonna wait and hopefully at WWDC, Apple will show off the new iOS, and if it's enough to wow me, I'll probably getting the iPhone 5 once it comes out.
Anyone moving on from the vibrant? What phone / carrier are you looking at? Is there a way to tell what will have working miui and GPS? I've had it with this phone ...GPS never works when you need it ...great when you don't. Now the 911 thing ...
Any suggestions?

Im stuck in this phone for about another year. Don't want to pay to exit fee, and don't want to sign up for another 2 years to get a phone.
Not paying 500+ for an unlocked phone either - no money.

These are my same sentiments. I'd love to get the Galaxy Nexus if it came to T-Mobile.
Though, I hope I can hold out until the S3...
I would potentially look at another samsung, I bought it as soon as it came out and almost a year and a half later I am still very happy with it. As of right now I would lean towards a nexus device, I guess it really depends on what is the new hot phone is out over the summer.
Does anyone know if any manufacturers have a better updating reputation than samsung?
Question for you guys. When my contract ends with T mobile can i go to non contract plan and save some money every month? So that i can get unlocked phone from out side. Also galaxy nexus seems the only phone that works with t mobile 3G bands. So we are pretty much stuck with one option if we want to get our own phone and still be on t mobile.
Id say galaxy nexus, if it ever came to tmobile. I wont spend full price on another android phone that is not a nexus.
from now on its....nexus or get lost. (simply because of updates)

I bit the bullet and got a Galaxy Nexus before Thanksgiving, and I'm glad I did. I will never get hamstrung by another carrier branded phone again as long as the Nexus phones are available. I had the Vibrant for a year. The Froyo update barely happened. Gingerbread? Yeah right. ICS....keep dreaming. Even CM doesn't want this phone anymore. I don't blame them either, the 911 issue was definitely a problem.
With the Nexus, I finally have a GPS that actually works (and works indoors). I get locks in a few seconds instead of waiting 5 to 10 minutes if it locks at all. Sure, I could have got an S2 - which IMO is another redheaded stepchild of the GS2 family and locked on TMO. One of my driving factors is that the international Nexus is pentaband. No phone is future-proof but this one suits my needs for a while.
iPhone 4S on AT&T. Don't have to spend $600 upfront and never have to worry about if it will fall out of support in less than a year.
Android is not reliable that way, and even the Nexus phones here are carrier locked. I'm not importing a phone.

I've had my vibrant since it came out in July last year. I hadn't thought of getting a new phone until I heard about the galaxy nexus. I'm going to wait for prices to drop, then choose between the gs2 and the galaxy nexus (depends on if the s2 actually gets ics). After having a phone with an amoled screen protected by gorilla glass, I can't go to something dull in comparrison and easily scratchable/breakable.

My problem is with choosing a phone is....
If I want to go to get a 2yr contract again, then I'd go for either S2 or Amaze... BUT... Here's the dilema:
What really IS the truth behind those two phones... People have been saying S2 is great, and there are others that say PIXEL is worse, go with Amaze. ARGH!
If I want to go OFF contract, then definitely no question: Galaxy Nexus.
Right of this moment, I'm using my friend's Nexus S, we swapped, because he wants to dev on my Vibe, and I want to flash happy on the Nexus S. Until he's satisfied of what he's doing to my phone, then I'm happy to be on Nex S for the mean time. Besides, if he bricks that damn Vibe, he'll get me a SGS4G. So I'm not too worried.
BUT, here's the dilema...
THE DAMN PRICE OF THE GALAXY NEXUS!

Agreed. A $600-700 phone is not in my budget at the moment. I have more important things too spend my money on (bills, 4mo old, etc). As much as I'd love to have the Nexus, it's just not going to happen and it won't come to tmo anytime soon (if ever).
Been looking at the sgs2 and Amaze the past few days. Going into the store this weekend and probably walking out with one. My Vibrants days are numbered.

To me service is more important than phone. That's why I'm gonna ditch tmo/att for Sprint. Would rather put up with slightly slower 4g that's unlimited than to have "the nation's fastest network" at 2 gig a month.
I'll probably end up getting the evo3d cuz after my Vibrant experience I'm not thrilled with the way Samsung fails to update their products.

I wish galaxy nexus it seems very powerful,
any one can send it to me from usa ??
I just switched TO this phone a week or two ago and couldn't be happier.
I got the Vibrant for $100 on Craigslist and signed up for the month to month T-mobile plan.
Dual core or not there's nothing I ran on the G2x that I can't run on this phone (Even Tegra only games with Chainfire).. except video conferencing with FFC, which I never did, but could always add a FFC later.
I'm getting the same data rate on this "3G" phone as I did on the G2x "4G" phone AND I'm not locked into a contract.
One of the reasons I got it was it's MIUI supported.
I've tried MULTIPLE smartphones since the first iPhone, iPhone 3G, 3Gs then switched to Palm Pre.. then to Android - MyTouch, HTC Hero, DroidX, Samsung Intercept, LG Optimus V, G2x, Motorola Triumph and now the Vibrant.
By far the best one of all those I've mentioned.
I know it's a year old, but I won't be switching anytime soon.
I'm thinking of getting the HTC One S when tmobile starts to sell it this month. It looks like a great phone and has all the features I want. Was wondering if anyone else is thinking of getting it.
Its nothing compared to the one s though. Better of waiting for the s3 since you'll be using it for two years.
There's nothing wrong with my vib oozing iced butter and bacon right now.I recommend waiting 4 more months and get the G3 or if tmo could get the htc one X that would be a consideration

i'll probably get one. benchmarks show the S4 dualcore outdoes the T3 quadcore chip. no need to wait around for a One X. By that time, the SGS3 should be out.
I'm actually still waiting for a device for tmobile with a true hd display.. similar to that of the current galaxy nexus. From what I understand the oneX has one but I'm not aware of any plans for it coming over to tmobile. Also personally, I'm not a fan of how the camera protrudes out the back of many htc phones.
Even though I'm quite satisfied with my vibrant running ics passion (occasional gps issues aside).. I've started to notice the lack of power while browsing and the occasional lags more and more. I used my friends galaxyS2 (att) the other day and was blown away at the speed and was left wanting more out of my phone.
I get a sense that tmobile is really dragging their heels in getting better devices. If I didn't have a serious dislike of being on mobile contracts I probably would have jumped ship already. I can live without true 4g.. fake 4g (hspa+) seems plenty fast to me... even my 3g vibrant is probably good enough for what I use the phone for.
I don't know.. just babbling...
and hoping tmobile steps up their game and offers some nicer devices.
All I want is a phone with a 4.7 HD screen, removable batt and micro sd, seems to be hard to find...nothing around the corner, still on the vibrant, nothing in sight so far...Sprint's EVO One (ONE X sprint style) looks great, but it's sprint and their data speeds are crap and no one has them so you use up anytime minutes quick...
There's a few phones I keep seeing, like LG and couple of others, but for some reason the US can't get **** for phones, like the rest of the world does, or if they do it's on att or verizon, and no, I don't want to pay 150/month for my cell phone..
I want a phone with about a 4.3" screen, flash on the camera, removable battery, and Micro SD. Preferably with that new S4 snapdragon... that things appears to be a beast. But I'm looking for a phone that devs are going to get behind. After having been in the Vibrant community, it'd be really hard to live with a phone that didn't have good dev support. I would honestly be really happy with my wife's HTC Amaze 4g if the dev support was more like the Vibrant. That phone is a beast and I can only imagine how smooth it would run with a good rom like CM9 on it. (but it's my wife's so it's staying stock LOL)
The non-removable battery and no Micro SD is a deal breaker for me. I'm also surprised to see only 16Gb of internal storage in any new phone, especially this one.
I need a phone that blows my socks off the same way my Vibrant did after it was rooted and customized. If there are any regrets I'll be seriously disappointed.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA
I just want a phone whose GPS works reliably and a good DAC. I mainly use my phone for those two things. I was hoping HTC would've nailed a good DAC (as I'm aware that HTC has the best GPS rigs), but it just wasn't meant to be.
I am going to wait for a better phone. The One S just doesn't do it for me. Sure its probably better than the vibrant but if I'm going to extend my contract, which has been up for about 8 months, I'm going to need a phone that I will be happy with for the next two years. When the next generation of phones which are almost here are offering far superior specs and capabilities, it makes no sense to upgrade to a mildly better phone. T-Mobile should see that and not insult us with "little brother" phones. If I'm paying for it, plus two years on contract, I want my moneys worth. I'm a big boy and I like big boy toys.
I would have loved to get the One S, but would never consider buying a phone with only 16GB and no microSD. I can't tell you how much I want to avoid buying anything from Samsung ever again due to anger over the Vibrant GPS problems and lack of update and other support.
I have had the Evo 4g since launch, and it has been an amazing phone. I have loved it even more since I rooted it and every new rom I try. But my girlfriend seems to be in love with the note, and I have to admit, that big a$$ screen is kind of nice. I'm just not sure that I would put it to its fullest use for very long, liek using the stylus and stuff. And by the looks fo the forums for the Note, there are only a couple roms for it. Not saying I need to have as many roms available as I have had with my 4g, but it would be a plus.
I guess I am wondering if I should consider the note, or if the galaxy s3 might fit the bill better. Or should I stick with sprint and grab and Evo LTE?
I'm not asking you to make up my mind for me, I need to play with the phones and do that myself. Just wondering if anybody has any opinions or advice?

I've been considering jumping ship to ATT as well lately, never had a problem w/ Sprint's speeds but they've been deteriorating rapidly where I live. If you do decide to move, why not the HTC One X?
I agree

This is a good point. Why not stick with that HTC goodness? lol
Seriously, though, I do admit that the Note is impressive, both in size and performance. While not too much more impressive than the rest of the Galaxy SII series (especially the Skyrocket), the screen size is instantly what gets people's attention. I've tested the Note, and I do like its appearance and style...but damn, that One X is sexy
I don't know, it's up to you on this one. The Note isn't too much more expensive than the One X, and Samsung's UI is easy to get used to. You get a nice phone either way.
HTC EVO 4G LTE pretty much is the one x + the SD card, kick stand and removeable battery haha..the note..ehhh,I'd just get the s3 for sprint...can't mess with unlimited data plans..perfect for root + free wifi tether/hot spot....wireless network speeds don't really effect me,as along as I can make a phone call b do basic browsing...there's usually a wifi connection for downloads n updates nowadays

If u don't care about unlimited data
Note is fantastic, my opinion don't go with X one small storage haha
HTC EVO 4g LTE far better than x one

I wanted something different. Nothign against HTC, I loved my evo. And truth be told I may prefer sense to touchwiz. But we, my girlfriend and I picked up a couple notes. The screen size is amazing, no complaints there. Battery life the past couple days has been in the 10-12 hour range, which seems a little low to me since it was with less then moderate use. But then again I am comparing to my rooted evo running decks reloaded and mason SBC which would last forever, lol.
I was hoping to be more wowed by the note like I was when I got my evo. But I think the jump from a blackberry curve to the evo was a bit more of a wow move then what moving fromt he evo to the note is. The note is a great phone, and my girlfriend loves it. I need to really get my hands dirty with it and see what it can do, but I am keeping my options open.

That's expected; jumping from one OS to the other is way different than just switching phone manufacturers. Android to Android isn't that amazing; Android to iOS (or, preferably the other way around ) is.
Either way, seems you're warming up to your phone nicely. Always good to hear that. If you stick with it, great. If not, I would recommend the One X should this phone disappoint down the road. You have some time to test drive it, so get what you can out of it before making that final decision.

I would make the decision based on; what 3G speeds you get now, if where you live will get Sprint's LTE soon, and if you already have Wimax coverage.
So I guess I'm saying it kind of depends.

I am in columbus OH, I have 4G on both att and sprint and i imagine ATT and sprint will both have LTE here by the end of the year.
I haven't read up much on the HTC One X or the Samsung Galaxy SIII, but one thing iI loved about the evo was how easy it was to root/flash and not brickbrick the thing. Looking at the note forums, I see a lot of posts about bricked phones. Granted I haven't read all the details, but it seems rooting/flashing is less safe on the note, which kind of sucks. Are the One X or SIII any easier to root/flash?
Just realized I was viewing the international note forums. The art note forums seem a little more user friendly

Well, if I knew for sure about LTE coming to my area within a year on Sprint, I would stay with Sprint. Personally I would get a Wimax device OFF contact (Epic Touch is Sprint's best Wimax device), and wait til the end of the year to see if LTE will actually come. Then make my decision. If you are completely done with Sprint though, just jump ship now. No reason to wait.
