Your phone softbricked, Here is how to fix it!
1. if you are on 1.8.3, download the following file
http://www.mediafire.com/?xm487o3ljjhdmh7 (thank unknown_ for it)
2. creat a folder and put the file in it.
3 download fastboot from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1138092
4. put fastboot on the same folder you created on step 2
4.1 enter fastboot on your phone
(reboot your phone while holding volume down, when fastboot appear on screen press up)
4.2 open a console in that folder (windows users hold left shift and right click, the click on the pull up menu on start command right here)
6 then type. fastboot flash boot CG56.img
7 for good messure type fastboot -w (this will whipe your data, sometimes it wont boot your phone unless you wipe data)
8. fastboot reboot
if you are on 2.3.4 you can find the boot.img in the same thread as fastboot.
Thanks for this, I know a few will need it.
Thanks for fixing this kholk, I knew you could do it!

the one person that it worked for was trolling yall, this will not work. this is made iwth an older, way older 3 versions behind 1.8.3 kernel source, this woudnt work if you lit it on fire. [edit] kholks kernel that is.
but yes, no problems, i figure a how to guide on how to fix it would be a nice thing, you see even tho yall hate me, im gonna SHARE!
If kholk really did post a bogus kernel he should be **** kicked. Not to mention, perma banned from XDA-DEV.

Unless there is some mysterious solution none of us have yet discovered, it doesn't work. Shockingly similar to his OC module and kexec module. Fortunately, neither of the first two caused people to softbrick their phones

i dont think he posted a bogus kernel, he just posted a kernel using a really really old kernel source, all you little kholk worshippers (not saying you are) when running get it.
the lesson here, dont just start flashing s*it on your phone if you dont know what it is or what it do, just cause you think the dev is cool. he aint.

Nope not attempting to Troll at all, I feel his title is though. I don't know kholk at all but he seems to know his stuff especially when it comes to the Tegra2 platform. He does seem to be poor at is full instructions or descriptions but it is also listed as version 0.1, to me thats not even Beta yet. So although it may not work right now for all we know at this point there could be a simple fix.
My point was simply don't attack someone because you rushed in to something without fully understanding or with the idea that it will work 100% when no claim was made to that. Offering to help others who made the same mistake is fine & admirable but does it have to come with sarcasm and veiled insults?

Holy hell guys.... Anyone who's already tried to flash this without a FULL understanding of what it is/does - and HOW to correctly install it deserves the soft-brick they got... You chose to flash something untested and unverified. Live with the consequences! Its funny to sit back and watch people JUMP and claw at this stuff to be the first person to have it and get it working - then piss and moan when something doesnt work. I find it hilarious actually lol. The only person to blame is yourself for flashing blindly

I was probably the 2nd person to flash this... I didn't piss & moan.. I was understandably anxious when my phone soft bricked, but I fully understood the risk. But someone had to be the first, someone had to test it... I didn't go bashing Kholk on his own thread, I asked questions of what to do, and thanked the one who directed me to the CG56.img file. After that I again questioned to see if anyone had successfully flashed the kernel. I have since requested a moderator temporarily close the thread until the Dev can update and/or correct the OP, or answer questions posted on his thread.
How many views does it take for thread to be locked? (Hint: it's over 9000)
The download link is down, Can someone kindly post another.
Cheers
Two questions from a complete idiot (me) if you please.
1. What is Soft Brick? I mean, what is the state of phone called Soft Brick?
I understand the Hard Brick (RIP state) is the phone totally unbootable.
2. The above procedure works only for a unlocked boot loader or with the locked also?

Lets get this thing rooted
Edit:: Devs working on the 2.1 Leak root, please contact me via PM. It would be great to know who all is working hard on this
BTW, JCASE is AMAZING.
I believe the individual responsible for rooting the Legend is coming back from vacation tomorrow (IF the big ass ash cloud permits flying again), and there might be a chance it can be replicated onto the ERIS. So yeah, it's a good idea to put it all in one area.
I hope it can but im not holding my breath.

If they did its because of ungrateful people like you.
Most of the devs dont have Eris' anymore let alone an Eris with leaked 2.1 to test with. Te guy who rooted the desire/legend in one fell swoop was notified and has shown interest in helping. So keep your pants on, if you have 2.1 leak its your own fault for jumping the gun.
For the record I jumped the gun too, but acquired a new Eris which is now rooted.
Sometimes minor frustration sounds ungrateful. I'm pretty sure what was being commented on was the fact that no devs addressed the subject. And, I bet the OP'er was really just trying to get the subject back up in the first page.
My conscience won't let me turn in my Eris for a mistake I made. The rest of the folks who can't or won't turn their phones in for replacement are having to hope for the best, same as me and the OP'er.
Nothing personal, meant here (more like an implied question) but I find myself curious about why someone who's already rooted, and is not apparently a dev is even reading this thread..

*sigh* I hear ya. Your gripe is totally valid. Sorry if I sounded like a jerk.
As someone in the same position as anom69, I was glad to see this thread started.. if nothing else, then to toss out a line and see whether anybody was still plying at it.. I keep picturing the "real" hackers not bothering with the cheap/free/not-so-impressively-spec'd Eris and getting, instead, (what they might term) "real" phones.. basically echoing what you stated earlier..
The story of Legend-rooter dude sounds promising. It'd be awesome of it turns into something.
It's more like "geez i can't stand to hear these people whine, maybe I will get an iphone instead".
or a motodroid.
It was kinda annoying seeing a signature that says I have root, but I'm not going to share it too. Like, why be a d!ck if you figured it out? If you don't want to share it or be bugged, don't say anything.
I do tutorials and write-ups for a truck forum. If I didn't want people PM'ing me, emailing me, or asking questions in forums all the time I wouldn't have done them in the first place. Seems simple enough: don't want attention then keep your head down.

Okay, so your going to let one dude ruin the work that would help loads of people like me???? Personally, I'm amazed at the work all the devs put into these forums and thankful.
since I have started coming here for all my information on rooting and whatnot I have noticed one major theme that pops up over and over, there are a few devs here with a holier than thou attitude, if you are doing this for fun and nonprofit as you claim to, then deal with us noobs who can't do this stuff on our own, you cry and whine when someone asks a question, like we are intruding on your personal space, we only ask because we don't know how to do this ourselves and are kinda stuck sitting watching and waiting, and when all we see are threads about new roms and such for rooted users, it kinda leaves us wondering, what about me, yes you are right we jumped the gun with installing the leak, but who told us it was ok, it was you guys, we aces our trust in you devs because we trust what you have to say, leaving is now high and dry because everyone jumped ship and got a replacement phone or a Droid or whatever, so doors that make us the bad guys because we want to know, what about us?
and a second thing, I've read a couple threads where devs are kinda claiming responsibility for obtaining root, but when in reality, while it was "obtained", it was not done so in a legal, nor reproducable manner, as I heard someone hacked HTC and found a prerooted file, so while we do hold the devs in high reguard for being able to do what we cannot, please do not be so full of yourselves and forget that you are human just like us
sorry for the rant, but getting tired of some things around here
and also, not everything here applies to all the devs, but I won't name names here

It's so that anyone can adapt it however they want. I could even care less about credit, since that's the OP's choice.
And being that it's such a low level hack, all it takes is a little bit of tinkering to figure everything out.

Thanks for giving credit to decadeance. Just FYI for anyone else that might be wondering, using the work of others without giving due credit IS against the rules of XDA-Developers.
12. Using the work of others.
If you are developing something that is based on the work of another Member, you MUST first seek their permission, and you must give credit to the member whose work you used. If a dispute occurs about who developed / created a piece of work, first try to settle the matter by private message and NOT in open forum. If this fails then you may contact a moderator with clear evidence that the work was created by you.
Convincing evidence will result in copied work being removed. If there is no clear evidence you created the work then in the spirit of sharing all work will remain posted on the forums.
These rules apply to all software posted on XDA unless that software comes with a license that waives these rules.

Since this was resolved in a matter of which did not require a moderators attention then no warnings will be issued since it seems to have been an honest mistake. It is true that this is OPEN SOURCE however that does not mean that you can claim rights to another developers work. We are striving to aid others in achieving more with the community but a house divided against itself cannot stand. Work together, treat each other with respect, resolve issues/problems/differences via private messages whenever possible to keep the forum from getting out of hand and always remember to follow the rules.
Thanks for your time.

You have already offended some. Please note that not all who asks to root Froyo updated their phone from OTA or RUU, some got their phone with the Froyo firmware already in it. So please watch before you speak. Also, not all people knows about how this things works. Most doesn't even care what their phones are and will update should an update is available believing their device will make it super. Then they'll just stumble on a forum unintentionally and started knowing stuffs like these and start loving and craving to try, but may be too late. People asking these questions should only be answered Yes or No, no side comments if it's bad to hear. Anyways, they are not pushing you, as in you to do it for them. If you say NO, then they won't bother you, will they?

There shold be no one to blame in the first place because nobody committed a mistake for asking to root their phone after update. It's not a mistake, it's just that people tend to play with their phone, get more features after root, but it's not a mistake. Mistake here is to insult poor ignorant people.

No, the fact that you do something (like updating 2.2.1) without knowing the implications is a mistake, and you deserve what`s coming to you.
If you go around in life like "hurr durr a buttonz, lets push it" you are eventually gonna get burned. It doesn't take long to go around asking on Google or reading on a forum, or asking a friend what happens when you press that button. Maybe you will not find out exactly what happens when you push the button, maybe you`ll only know that starts a flame, you are responsible for getting burned. And you shouldn`t cry afterward if the injuries hurt. This example can be extended in every aspect of life and can be summarized like this THINK before you act! Some obviously don`t.
I`m not going to argue anymore, this is my final post about this subject.

Flashing anything has a chance of bricking your phone people. Don't flash something cause someone told you especially if they didn't test it them selfs.
Android Creative Syndicate- From spontaneous ingenuity, comes creative brilliance
When you flash ANYTHING you take the risk of destroying your device. I'm almost positive that Noob made sure to voice the possible issues that could come from flashing it. Don't down on him, if he says wanna flash something for me? It might break your phone though, and you accept its not his fault if you brick it.

Everyone has a choice whether to try it or not. Noobnl is a well respected contributer here and I would lay off noobnl if u want him to continue his work. There is nothing wrong with asking people to test something out. Each phone is different. Read threw the forums everyone is experiencing different problems with different roms. Its hit or miss. Atleast he was kind enough to warn us about. I tell u what if noobnl asked me to test something I would without thinking twice.
Sent from my viperROM rooted ext4 epic 4g
noobnl is active in the irc and communicates with these people about potential risks, so far he is one of the ONLY people doing development work on the Epic and currently he only has one device, if people are willing to test stuff so he can keep his device up and working than good for him. quit *****in and talkin about things you have no idea about
Am I insane are are the same people screaming about the lack of development here now screaming at noobnl for trying to develop for our phones?
You do realize that development is sometimes trial and error and there will always be bugs, right? Everyone who flashes anything or uses any workaround on this site is testing things that might destroy their phone but this you have a problem with? Wow.
i want to brick my phone EVERY day. if you dont, there are other forums for that. whats wrong with you people. this forums name is xda-DEVELOPERS. not xda-cryingbabies
Always riding noobnl and not his ass either! Noobnl...your our only hope... Only hope...only hope. It was bad taste but I'm sure the dude was willing. Still bad taste. To the men out there on noobnls johnson, hes a dude y'all post like your walking on egg shells. "oooooh noo if we say something mean he ll leave and its 2.1 forever. Dont be suprised when source is out to find out how wrong you guys are lol. 4 real what rom are all of you on andromeda? Must have more than 1 dev here then.

Before this thread gets locked can someone please tell me what makes noobnl so great? And why he should be above the law?

That's a very confrontationally phrased question you got there and it makes it kinda difficult to answer in a manner that won't be taken as an attack on your opinion.
I will speak for nobody else, but for your first question, "...what makes noobnl so great?", here's my answer:
Nobody but you has stated that noobnl's "great". It is a seemingly resentful statement especially when the viewer reads on and sees that you also believe him "above the law". Therefore, I can only conclude that you personally consider him a great man but are resentful (for whatever reason) of that greatness.
The second question, "why should he be above the law?", I'm a bit confused about. How is he exhibiting behavior or actions that you perceive as "above the law"? I see no police here nor do I see him committing any crimes...but this is the internet and I only see him as a name and words and am not involved with his life outside of these sites. If he is, in fact, breaking the law and you have witnessed it, it is your duty as a citizen to report his activities to the authorities. Otherwise, aren't you just as guilty as he?
I appreciate your willingness to put together ROMS and such and put work into this phone. I am certain that someday, you, too will be so great that other people will take a chance on not reporting illegal activities that you perform, either.
Keep up the good work, Mystery, and don't let the naysayers get to you. Just focus on what you're doing and remember that it's for yourself; if you're happy with what you're doing, don't let anyone else force you to believe otherwise.
What rules did he break?
but anyways man he's not the only Dev "above the law"
he's trying hard to make cm6/cm7 work on our epic and would've been done by now if samsung/sprint handled their business but he's a very active Dev even though he has school and i believe he provided us with our first leak?and provided us with 1Click root? and he's been trying to get another leak apparently.
No im not **** riding but you have to admit noobnl has probably done the most SO FAR when it comes to development on the Epic but im not taking away from other Devs like the ACS team who made the Smoothest/Fastest 2.1 rom i've ever seen.
But leave noobnl alone people should know the risk of testing for him and im sure noobnl wouldn't do it was pointless
I am not Above the law.. I warned them.. testing something is only way to learn something

Ive never been this frustrated in trying to find how to guides before. Damn it Im just trying to figure out how to install MIUI on my bell sgs2 stock ugkg2 2.3.3 phone. Do I need to update my firmware first and if so with which one since there isnt a bell sgs2 update yet and once i download this firmaware, how the heck to I extract it since they have a password and samsung-firmwares.com does not work for password. /end rant
First you need a rooted kernel which you have to flash with odin. Either cf-root or hellcats or nimph kernel. The first thing after using are rooted is to BACKUP YOUR EFS FOLDER! Then boot into cwm and install MIUI zip from there.
There is a QA thread here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1238494
For guide on how to flash the kernel have a look in cf-root kernel thread. For easy efs backup use hellcats application or manually do it, with the instructions in the relevant thread.

That's because, as you said, you are a bloody noob. If you would have spent more than 20 seconds looking, you would have either find the password (even with google, the first result has it), either the thread explaining how to install it.
These forums have thousands (guessing) of members, imagine if everyone were an idiot like you, and posting **** like this, they would have to close it down.
password is: samfirmware.com
MIUI install instructions are here

Unfortunately its true driven mainly by users who wont search and fail to read instructions and want it all handed to them on a plate with repetitions of the same questions day after day .
I see no way around this problem as FAQS etc and rules are not read so the genuine user who asks a question as you did gets treated as if they could not be bothered to search read etc .It is partly due to the number of twelve year olds with Smartphones .

The problem Im having is first Im clueless in regards to android phones and 2nd lots of the information Ive been able to find in regards to rooting/upgrading firmware/updating roms are conflicting so that makes me insecure (I dont wanna brick my phone) 3rd I havnt been able to find...so far...explicit information that enables me to download and extract firmware with password for my bell ugkg2 SGS2.
Looks like Im gonna stick with stock till I can find a guide that goes through all the loops that a canadian bell user like me has to go through to upgrade firmware to 2.3.4 and upgrade to the latest MIUI.....

As a fellow Canadian and a fellow user of the Samsung Galaxy S2 from Bell, I know these phones inside and out due to hours and hours and hours and hours and weeks and days and more hours and more hours and more hours......of research. I have no problem helping you out unlike that other character who is too much of a prick to help anybody out. Let me know if you still need my help. I don't mind taking you under my wing and showing you the ropes of our beasts and the wonderful world of Android.

Bro, if you want MIUI you have to do TWO simple simple things from your stock bell state
go look for cfroot kernel thread (ill try to find it and link it for you) use the ones for kG2 firmware, this will root your phone and install CWM (the recovery needed to flash custom roms) this will root your phone on the bell firmware no stock required!
once this is done, download the latest miui zip, put on phone sd. boot into recovery and flash that mofo
You actually dont need stock/ kg6 at all to flash custom roms, but it is nice to learn how to use it for the sake of going back to stock!
I'm not changing my mind. They can take all noobs under their wings, but when I see incompetent idiots like you, I can't control myself. The password is on the same download page you got the file from, and I've already told you. You're here because you're bored, and you want attention, and you spent less than one minute searching for your answer. I know I am aggressive sometimes, but I do help people who put in some effort for something they want. I am also a beginner, so I'm not patronizing you, but what you failed to achieve has nothing to do with android at all. Now stop being a moron and creating a drama.

I understand you, but you shouldnt be this agressive. You could ignore this or just tell him to read the faq at samfirmwares. Just my opinion.
Daniel, posts like yours looks like spam as there is tons of posts asking for the same thing over and over. Try to read a bit more, start with the faqs.
About root and roms, start reading:

I sort of have to agree with you minus the aggressive attitude. If you can't answer normally then simply don't answer. You're not only making yourself look like a F*cking idiot to about everyone that reads on these forums, but you are also making the community look bad and there are quite a few wonderful people on these boards.
On a side note, I am a newbie to when it comes to android systems (btw there is a difference between a Noob and Newbie, to bad most people don't remember that) but I did manage to root my phone and figure out how to install stock roms and other roms, within 15 minutes of searching. There are plenty of guides here on XDA telling you what flashing is, what roms are, what kernals are, what odin is for, what root system to use (CF-Root) etc.
Its not that hard, so i do agree with you on that.

And I agree 110% with TheSaw - the OP wants spoonfeeding and has the cheek to "rant" about it. "Spending weeks searching"!!?? Oh behave...

<PSA>
Newbie: Someone new to something, just starting out, learning.
Noob: Someone whos been around for a while and just wont learn, someone who needs spoon feeding, someone who doesnt want to help themselves.
We are all Newbies at some point, some get better, others turn into noobs.
</PSA>
Okay, I apologize for my aggressive behavior. I did however help him in my first post after ranting. And yes, I do know the difference between "noob" and "newbie", and I give him credit for correctly categorizing himself in the "noob" group in his thread's title. And on that note... it's common sense and forum rules not to create threads with titles like this. I'm just really not patient with people, sorry
Over and out, carry on without me.
