Camera quality , Horrible - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Why r my pictures always coming out grainy??
Is it me or is it just my phone ?
Every ROM I flash, the pictures r always GRAINY unless taken literally 2 inches away.

What exactly do you mean my grainy? Looks fine to me from what I can see.

Try HDR camera in the market or a number of any other apps that are better then stock, pm me if u want to try that HDR app.

I changed the picture to a recent one. U can really notice the "grainy" in this one

1) Check that your back cover glass (the one that covers the camera) is REALLY clean from both sides.
2) Accept the fact that in low light the phone won't shoot good pics.

The only time it will take good pictures is when the flash is right now the object, or if there is 100% sun on the object. As u can see on my example, there was fairly enough light but still came out Grainy.

Best settings for highest quality pics

I would like to know what are the best settings for the highest quality pictures, using the stock camera app, or another app such as camera 360, or vignette. Post the settings and the pics. Thank You.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Pretty much stock settings, other than changing to a 16:9 aspect ratio and 'highest' resolution...

Here's a big ole pic of some tasty knots from Mellow Mushroom...
(I didn't re-size it or make any changes, so you could see the pic fresh from the microSD card)
I also use the 'Vintage Warm' effect a LOT, love it. I don't use Auto-flash though - it's either flash on or flash off for me.
Hope this helps!
U use auto focus, I heard it was better to leave that off.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
In my experience, having auto-focus OFF doesn't get me as sharp of pics, especially in low-light. With auto-focus, you do have to wait a second for it to lock-in, so if it's a "fast action" shot, you're not gonna get it using auto-focus. I'm more concerned with sharper looking images vs. fast-action though.
It's all personal preference. I can say that every time I take a pic and I'm with friends that have either iPhones or the Evo, they always look at my pics and point out how much better mine look vs. theirs.
Nice, ill try those settings out today

Try out that Vintage Warm effect. It's really nice and makes pics (especially sans-flash) look really tasteful.
I don't have that effect, running cm7 build 8.

Aaaah, sorry. When I saw "...using the stock camera app..." I figured you were using stock ROM or Ice Glacier.
No, its all good, don't worry about it bro.

Great pics. The one that stands out the most to me is the one of the screens. How does the resolution compare?

the resolution looks pretty much the same honestly.. which is a good thing considering how much bigger the screen is.. i also forgot to mention that the touch has a screen protector and the og doesnt. so im sure the touch looks a little better with the protector off. i put on the protector before i even put the battery in lol..
i want one
Now post one with the keyboards visible on both of them.
The buttons below the screen don't light up?

hhaha.. good one.. honestly this is my first non keyboard phone ( since my htc touch ) and i thought i was going to miss it but this screen is so big that typing on this is actually easier than the crappy physical keyboard that was on the epic. especially with the keyboard for android app from the market.. and yes the buttons light up. i had it set to turn of every second and a half..
Nice pics

folks, this has also been answered a few times:
these "lines" are optical interference between the scanning frequency of the CCD and the frequency of some artificial light sources! other cam apps have the ability to enable a suppression for that (according to your grid frequency), the stock cam app of the note however does not have this function (or it has a very poor automatic for that)!
only chance: change the light-source or try to optimize your position!
OR: use a cam app which has a satisfying suppression function!
IF you have that lines also with no artificial light-source and in all cam apps then please take my apologies and replace your device!
Ahh.. I have the same thing on my work.. Guess the fluorescent lamps on the office interfere with my camera or something..
Nothing to worry about..

[Q] Snapchat 2.0.0

Alright with the new snapchat update, we are able to log-in. The only problem is that instead of automatically using the front camera, it tries to use the non-existent back camera, and there is no option to switch cameras. Any way to force it to use front camera?
Making some progress...
At least snapchat halfway works. I have contacted the snapchat support but they told me to reinstall the app. I will try to get another response today.
I really wish snap chat was working for the nexus 7 ( I really don't like using my p500 for snap chat) I will talk to the devs about it today, maybe even providing them with a log etc..
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Well I tried, I guess what we have to do is just be patient and wait. I'd like to say that the support for snap chat emailed me back within 45 mins.

What I'm guessing is that since they are still introducing a lot of new features in snap chat, more device support will be coming (soon I bet) be patient, our device will get there eventually.

Actually today after viewing a snap i had gotten from my friend, i went to the camera to see if it would magically work and i saw the switch to front camera icon. I pressed it, then it crashed.
It Works!
Just sideloaded snapchat 2.1 and the camera works now!!!
Only problem that the picture is flipped the wrong way.

You can also just flip the nexus 7 upside down or sideways to take pictures.

I find that your picture is by far better than mines, I don't know what is the problem, this phone wasn't new (refurbished), maybe they have put a non original camera ? what to do now ?
Try downloading a different camera app and see if it is any better.
Sent from my LG-D800 using XDA Free mobile app
My camera has inconsistencies (blur in areas), camera is always going out of focus and in frequently, the image is quite often warping (noticeable when recording).
I use Mi2raw now.

They seem fine to me. You could download and install CamSpeed. It's a Camera Peformance benchmarking application. Yes usually benchmarking applications are laughed at but if you're having doubts, why not try it and compare with other G2's?
If you're still not satisfied, download and install XCam and use that instead of the LG Cam.
with camspeed, I get a rank of 411 and score of 412, it seem poor compared to other devices with 2000+ rank.
I already use xcam, it give better performances but still not good enought.
Can someones please run this test and tell us there score ?

your first picture appears to have been taken through the windshield of a car. Anti-reflective/glare coatings on the windshield as well as road grime will cause your pictures to look bad. Also looks like there is some reflection from the dashboard as well.
The second picture looks ok. I see a blurry spot in the lower left that may be due to motion.
Is your phone in a case with a plastic cover in front of the lens?
I have been using x-cam on my VS980 and get very good results.
