An Open Letter to Samsung and Verizon - Continuum General

If your minions haven’t let you know this day is coming, then you need new minions. I have made it very clear to Verizon and Samsung Customer Support over the last couple of months that if there was not a software update (preferably to Android 2.2) pushed out to the Samsung Continuum before yesterday then I would never buy anything with the Samsung brand on it ever again. Now that that has passed, let’s look back at the horrible failures you have made to this point.
The first thing that you did wrong was putting the Galaxy S brand on the back of the phone. This gave consumers the impression that this was one of your top end phones that would receive support and service.
Second, Verizon’s salespeople need to be instructed not to promise upgrades and future enhancements. Actually, I believe this started before the release of the product where there were promises of third party integration with the Ticker coming with the imminent Froyo upgrade. Again, giving us false hope with no intention to follow through.
In January you pushed out an OTA that broke the Ticker. Facebook and Twitter feeds stopped showing updates and we could no longer put in custom RSS feeds. But the Froyo upgrade was imminent, so we kept our mouths shut.
Then in April the Fascinate received its 2.2 update, which fixed many of the issues that we still have on the Continuum as well as all of the new features that come with Froyo. Our previous update had come out a week after the Fascinate OTA, so we figured our 2.2 upgrade was just around the corner.
And we waited about a month… And then we have gotten rather vocal as I’m sure you know.
But you have made it clear that you don’t care that you crippled your product then backed out on promises for updates.
I would like to spell out the repercussions of your actions.
Verizon, you have pissed off a small, but rather vocal portion of your customer base at a time when a slight shift in your fees allows a loophole to allow any of your customers to exit their contracts without paying an ETF. Let’s see how that goes for you.
Samsung, you have lost some customers for life. All of us loved your hardware and products, but this fiasco has soured many of us toward your brand. I, for one will never buy anything with the Samsung brand on it ever again.
There may yet be time to reverse our view of your companies, but at this point I believe it would have to involve Gingerbread, and soon. Best of luck.

That's the only way you can do anything to a big corp. Never by anything made by Samsung that includes the iPhone (mostly Samsung parts) but the only problem is one person won't hurt them you have to spread the word brother. Spread the word.

We on many message boards including XDA have been trying to get information regarding the Froyo release for Verizon's Samsung Continuum to no avail. Several of us have contacted Verizon and Samsung but have been given no real answers as to if the update has been made or if it will ever be made available to us. The Continuum community feels cheated. Most of us purchased this phone because it had the 'Galaxy S' name on it and assumed because this is Samsungs flagship line that it would be receiving updates like the other GS phones. I realize we are a small community but we still deserve answers be it from Verizon or Samsung. Please, if you can find the answers we are looking for. Don't let us be duped by Verizon and Samsung. We are loyal paying customers and we deserve to know the truth!

Samsung Pulls Android 2.2 Update for Vibrant

Just read this on phandroid.com.
Samsung is no longer offering the Froyo update to via Kies (this was only available to Bell customers anyway?)
According to Samsung's facebook page:
"We are continuing to investigate issues that some users have reported while completing the upgrade to Android 2.2. In the interim, we are taking the extra precaution of temporarily suspending the upgrade as a download from Kies. We apologize for the inconvenience and ask that clients contact 1-800-751-4078 or [email protected] if they have any further questions."​
I think this news means a few things:
1. Since the release in Canada was going to precede the US release, we have a while to wait before any hopes of an official Froyo release for the vibrant.
2. Since Samsung pulled the plug in Canada, it is a safe conclusion that Samsung is responsible for the delay we are experiencing in the USA, not T-Mobile.
3. We should petition T-Mobile to take matters into their own hands because Samsung has failed us. As T-Mobile customers, we deserve to get what we were sold. When we bought our Vibrants, we were sold a smartphone that was capable of being officially updated to Froyo, and within at least a "reasonable" time-frame.
4. In the petition, we should suggest that T-Mobile release a vanilla Froyo or Gingerbread update for our Vibrants, which their engineers could pull-off by adapting the Nexus S rom.
I am setting up the online petition right now. Any suggestions as to details I should include in the petition? I'll post a link when it is ready.

Samsung software support is losing right now. HTC and Motorola manage to successfully roll out updates across multiple carriers. Samsung can't even manage 1.

Nop...I just knew that even if samsung didn't release I could install it my self which I did!
Well, if there are issues, isn't it good that they're addressing them before wide release? (Better late and grate than early and buggy, right?)

Who really cares anymore? They promised an update months ago. Then kept re promising. Now ginger bread is out and the nexus s. I wouldn't hold my breath.
I assume since your on XDA that your not running stock rom anyways so lets go back to supporting our favorite devs.
Only thing I cant figure out is I with over 4 million galaxys sold why arent there more devs? Not to take away from the great work of the devs on here but it seems like there should be more.

Its good to get your news from multiple sources.
Though I would be curious to know the build number of their 2.2 update, I wouldn't be surprised if it was different from ours, as I'm sure the model number of the Tmo Vibrant is different from theirs, as well as other regional carriers. Remember Kies does things based off of the model number.

yeah, samsung software support sucks. the intercept or whatever the crap it is on sprint just got 2.2.
oh well, just do it yourself. it's so easy, and the custom roms are 10x better anyway

Support your own phone then lol. Screw samsung. Let it be your last samsung but don't just let it be broken, fix it. There's ROMS out there that work, and work well. Foyo has been out for the vibrant for what almost 2 months now?
I'm as mad about Samsung's service as the next person but we obviously aren't getting anywhere harrassing them on facebook/twitter or calling support. Like Jae said, it falls on def ears.

I really can't believe this. This is ****ing ridiculous! I'm mad for you guys. So glad I exchanged my Vibrant for a MyTouch 4G. I can't believe Google would contract a company like SamSUCK to make a dev phone for them. Why couldn't they stick with HTC. They make good solid hardware, they actually support the devices they make.
I fell in love with the Vibrant at first (due to the screen of course) but I just couldn't take the GPS problems, the lag, retarded file system, lack of Froyo, TouchWiz, no front facing camera, no flash, no LED indicator lights, cheap plastic build. I should have known better but I absoutely loved that screen and even my iPhone 4 friends were impressed.
I just couldn't take it anymore. My friend introduced me to this forum, installed ROMs for me which were bug filled, MMS didnt work right on some of them, the pics came in blurry, the GPS was still not good, etc. It was hard for me to do but I took a deep breath and said, F*CK YOU SAMSUCK! Seeing a friends unrooted MT4G getting 1900+ on Quadrant was the last straw. I really tried so hard to like my phone but it was time to give up on SamSUCK. They just don't support their hardware. If you want an Android device, stick with HTC or a phone that runs simply stock. Lesson learned. Samsuck always falls short. Look at the Nexus S. No microSD, no HD recording, no HSPA+. Is this what Google calls revolutionary?? What are you ****ing kidding me?? Typical SamSUCK. HTC would have never done some **** like that. FAIL

The Class Action is great, what else can we do?

As someone else said, imagine what would happen if the iPhone's GPS didnt work, so why is Android held to a lower standard? Why are we supposed to accept whatever we are given, regardless of what we are promised? The SGS and iPhone 4 cost about the same amount, but we, as Android owners are supposed to just be grateful for anything that we get even when its less than promised?Samsung is already "rumored" to be planning our phone's successor. Thats bull****, we dont deserve to be treated like this. I love the Class Action Suit, but does anyone have any other creative ideas to not only help out current SGS owners but also ruin possible SGS 4G prospects? Samsung needs to be taught that we wont just be grateful for whatever we get, we demand what we are promised, we demand what we pay for; this is only reasonable.
A company should at least have some concern for their consumers, even if its barely recognizable. Samsung left us with a broken device we paid handsomely for, they have 0 concern for us. So I pray to whoever is listening up there that the SGS 4G fails miserably. If I knew how, Id make and circulate a Facebook page with just a couple of sentences outlining the case against Samsung. Even those who dont know much about Android would pay attention to a facebook page saying Samsung has ripped off SGS consumers, so avoid any Samsung phone at all costs, there are plenty of great alternatives. Maybe there is a more effective avenue, maybe we could even pursue multiple avenues. The goal is to bring attention to the shortcomings of the SGS we currently have, it deserves Samsung's attention. And now is the time, while the class action is getting attention, lets pile it on. Im happy to do what I can, im just not sure what to do. Any ideas?
kinda like the facebook page idea. I hate that Samsung doent give a **** about selling us a broken phone, even if they said they were really sorry itd be ok if they didnt fix it. Not only are they pricks, they're dicks too.
Well, debut day of Vibrant 4G or Successor is coming up. There will be people showing up to buy them. They will be watching its debut day. There will also be press and reviewers about its debut. Thus, if you have a crew of buddies willing to help you out in boycotting their Vibrant 4G or any of the coming Galaxy S product with picket signs and banners for in front of the local stores with drums and horns. Have your buddies call up local news and it will make it to some news since people will wonder what is going on... Resist if they give you and your buddies Vibrant 4G to shut you guys up. Too bad we just missed the CES. With all those press there, that would have been perfect! We need to organize into big group to do this more effectively even if lawsuit takes forever.
This will get them to know how angry we are about this "Froyogate"
Also, maybe somebody needs to make a boycott app for ALL Galaxy S product.

Corporations want to maximize their profits, both for themselves and their shareholders. Thus, this shouldn't come as a surprise.
A tipster has come forward and said that Samsung is holding back the Android 2.2 (Froyo) update from the T-Mobile Vibrant (Samsung Galaxy S variant) because they are afraid that such an update will impact sales of their upcoming Samsung Vibrant 4G Plus.
Reportedly, the new device is little different than the original Vibrant. In addition to the original Vibrant, the Vibrant 4G Plus has a front-facing camera, Android 2.2, and HSDPA+ 21 support.
Here's what the tipster said:
Some disturbing things have happened the last week or so concerning our “Vibrant”. Samsung has NOT allowed us to push the update OTA for 2.2 because they feel it will decrease the value of the upcoming Vibrant4G +. While from a marketing aspect i totally understand, as the Vibrant 4G is what the original Vibrant should have been in the 1st place. Furthermore, if Froyo works in "Vibrant 4G" - another product of Vibrant, this means it should be already for distribution for the Vibrant 3G version with minor changes.
I like the sound of all of this. I can't stand the idea that samsung suffers no repercussions for selling so many broken phones. Froyo or no froyo, the phones gps is broken, samsung shouldn't have the option to not fix it, it's INSANE
I thought that if you demonstrate to T-Mobile that the official Samsung GPS Tool fails, they would consider it defective and send for a replacement. Don't crucify me if I'm wrong, I haven't dealt with either companies.
My Samsung Vibrant came hardware locked, with faulty GPS. Samsung told me it wasn't there problem (no warranty because I brought it into Canada without an "international warranty"). Have I thought about a class action suit? Nope. I dunno, maybe it's because I'm Canadian or something, but I've just tried to fix my own problems. It's not the first product that's let me down, and I don't expect some lawyer to make it all better. Eventually the awesome people on this forum came up with a fix for the hardware lock. Then they brewed up roms based on the 2.2 leaks. Then a hardware GPS fix, combined with new software updates and now my GPS locks on in under 15s.
So what have I learned from all of this? I won't be purchasing a Samsung phone again. They've lost a customer. I vote with my wallet, not by signing some e-petition, or joining a Facebook group.
Do you really think a class action would change anything? Even if you are successful, you'll probably just get a credit towards your next Samsung purchase, or a refund on the cost of the GPS chip.
Let them know how you feel, and that you won't purchase any of their products in the future, and will be advising friends/family to do the same. kobesabi has outlined some great ways to let them know.

I understand your feelings. And I think most people in here is of the mindset that we can fix our phones better than Samsung. What is going on here is a movement towards holding Samsung to their promises. They are in the OHA and therefor are legally bound to release the Source Code for the Vibrant. The second thing is that they promised multiple times throughout the last year that they would release Froyo to the US Galaxy S phones, and they didn't. If you vote by your wallet that is OK. How much do you spend on buying a new phone? With the current pricing around $500 without contract. If one person doesn't give Samsung their $500, Samsung doesn't care. If all the people on XDA doesn't give them $500, Samsung still won't care. However if we can get enough people to realize that Samsung is not a good company to buy from as they have TERRIBLE software support for their phones, if we could get 100,000 people at first, that is $50 million, which is still just a drop in the bucket for them, but that is surely more painful than $500. This is to try to make Samsung take responsibility for their products.
Agreed, Samsung should be held to the agreements made regarding their source code. I also agree that people should be informed Samsung as a company, and their poor customer relation choices.
I just think a Class Action is the wrong way to do it

Here's one more thing we can do:
Post bad reviews of Samsung Galaxy phones on all online retailer web sites that sell them. Got an Amazon account? Post feedback there and drive this phone's rating down it gets Samsung's attention and warns potential buyers about buying a product that they will most likely be dissatisfied with once they realize that GPS is marginally functional and that it's running now outdated version of Android with no update in sight. Do the same on Tiger Direct, NewEgg and whoever else sells this phone.
Collectively we can definitely make Samsung take notice.

I love the facebook idea, we can have a vote "buy from samsung again, yes/no"...set that up and lets start a movement and make other consumers aware of what samsung had done.
Lot of good ideas here, maybe op can update with an organized list. I registered at scam and tipoff report so I'll start or add to samsung complaints, and th facebook thing sounds great. Let's keep it up

#NeverAgain - Need your ideas.

Had an idea last night to expand the #NeverAgain Movement. Not sure what that is? (SEE THIS THREAD).
I want to create a consumer advocate blog/site. It will revolve initially around Samsung of course and their total failure to listen/support their consumers.
I am only asking for feedback on what you guys think will help the most. I need ideas on how to do the site (I have no skills in this regard). I am leaning towards a wordpress blog/site. I also need your sentiment on Samsung and their errors.
Planning to point out the errors of Samsung (feel free to post your ideas) and will ask for support by using ALL MANNERS OF SOCIAL MEDIA TO MAKE OTHER CONSUMERS AWARE OF HOW SAMSUNG treats their consumer.
Last time Samsung admitted they heard our voice, they then released Froyo very shortyly afterwards. Only problem is, DID THEY?
They shut us up, but I'm starting to think the Mini Kies was to stop their bleeding. Their Twitter accounts, facebook page, and the articles written by some large sites certainly hurt them. NOW I am concerned this will not be treated as an "official" release since it was not OTA... hence why source has not been released yet (my opinion). Our developers need this, and Samsung needs to know we take the Open Handset Alliance seriously. I know they have 60 days to release... but what if mini kies was not official... we could be waiting forever.
Well, I think we need to shoot back harder than last time. I will be working on the site and could really use yall's help. Thing is, I will probably use the site for future issues... consider it a site for consumer advocacy... not just to bash samsung.
Ideas, thoughts?

The thing that worries me is that the international galaxy s units never got a OTA release for froyo (kies) but did get source code released. To ME official release is anything that comes directly from Sammy for the general public, such as the case for kies mini.
I hope I am wrong in my assumption, but Samsung constantly surprises me.
While I commend your spirit, I think sammy will only listen to one thing... sales numbers... And right now they have no real reason to change.
For me my next phone will be HTC, LG or Moto. I'm done with sammy.

I was floored at how well the movement worked last time, I had a LOT of article links sent to me... dont underestimate the power of social media. I did before this.
Consumerist.com is a very large, non-profit consumer advocacy site.
My biggest thing about techy type complaints, is you guys (and myself included sometimes) get distracted off with shineys and get off subject of the original real issue.
The source + developers does not matter. What matters is the 60 day timeline, the lack of phone support, the reoccuring glitch issues, and GPS problems. This is all documentable, proven issues that normal people would run into.

You know, I would wait until they deliver the Source Code first before we make a move. Xplane9 is right, International Galaxy S has gotten the code and they never had OTA, but an "Official" update thru Kies. Like ours.
Or better yet, we make our mark a week before their deadline of the release of the code, if it hasn't been released yet. I9000 users got the source around 30 days (avg of 35 days). It's been, what? Almost a month since that leak from CNet of a CEO or something that said, we will get the update? So lets see first...
Too early to make a big move. Just imagine how much people out there here in the States are pissed at Samsung. Remember #NeverAgainSamsung? It blew up overnight. We'll do that again if they're releasing the source on the deadline.

I think your idea is good, you should do it. However the consumerist already exists, but always room for more.
Also, OTA just means it was delivered over the air, instead this time they chose Kies Mini to make the delivery. I do think this was "official" and I don't think it has to be delivered OTA to be "official."
The only only only thing that worries me about it being "official" is T-Mobiles wording that this is "optional" and "not required." Hmmmm
Nevertheless, those who choose to update using kies mini, then for those users, this is "official froyo."

No doubt about it:
1. Samsung Galaxy S 4G announced before MWC, basically original Vibrant with a 4G antenna and FFC, minus spacious internal SD.
2. Samsung Galaxy S2 will be announced at MWC.
3. Samsung Galaxy SL is a Galaxy S budget device??? Sporting SLCD and a Texas Instruments CPU.

Everybody always whines about Samsung and their update policy, but if we look at the facts, In 1 year and 2 months, Samsung has offered 4 major updates, 2.2, 2.2.1, 2.3.3 and 2.3.4. And the software itself, the progress it has made. I call it amazing.
The galaxy s came with 2.1, eclair. I think everyone should flash that and use it for a week. If you would compare the 2.1 with 2.3.4, i think that samsung did a great job fixing the bugs and finally getting the most out of this amazing phone.
I do think that after 2.3.4 we can't expect another major update, 4 updates is already better then everyone would have expected.
So I think that Samsung is doing better then other companies in terms of updating, And people should stop saying that Samsung is a ****ty company because of their support.

I agree too, however don't forget that eclair was truly awful software and samsung had no choice than to get their act together as the sgs was a flagship phone and they could of lost out hugely if they hadn't given us something worth talking about! And still on rfs?! I give them their credit, but only so much!

Never have I seen 2.2.1 nor any sort of leaked Gingerbread version here either... not mentionning the total lack of communication from Samsung Canada when asking for ETA's.
So please excuse me as I do not share your optimism at all!
P.S.: My phone's warranty is over as of today. Last time we updated to Froyo, we could count the bricked SGS by the thousands here in Canada because of faulty hardware. What's going to happen if the same sh** happens this time again?!

Wrong, Bell has nothing to do with the update. It's all on Samsung on this one.
Bell's other phones have already received the updates. Samsung creates the updates and rolls them out via kies.
Do you really think Bell would have released JL2 or what have you that caused all those bricks? No, but it was Bell cleaning up the mess.
We here in Canada have only received 1 update that actually works. We went from 2.1 to 2.2. We never received a 2.2.1 update, have not received a 2.3.3 or 2.3.4.
If it was Bell's fault - Samsung Mobile Canada Facebook page wouldn't be stating anything on their page about an update, they would pass off the blame to Bell and say "Please contact your provider". But they are not doing that. However if you contact Bell they do tell you (some of them) to call Samsung.
Furthermore, Bell has no reason to test the software. Bell has their bloatware confirmed to be working on other phones carrying 2.3. Samsung has to code it into their firmware.
No, the problem here is Bells exclusivity to the SGS2 and Samsung's determination to make it just as successful as the SGS1.
Thats the only thing that makes sense. I hate the iPhone with a passion, but when they update, at least they roll out the update to everyone. I think other manufacturers of Android phones do as well, but I'm not sure on that.
Samsung should make, and complete, all their updates on every carriers version and roll it out at once to everyone. Not one country here, or one country there.
So Great Job Samsung? Hardly.

Well, I could, but I was one of Samsung's victims that had their SD card blow up.
And as such, I am a little apprehensive installing anything that hasn't officially come from Samsung for fear that it may happen again and Samsung refusing to warranty it. After all, if it does happen via ODIN, Samsung would have every right to refuse to fix it under warranty. If it happens officially through KIES, they wouldn't have a leg to stand on.
To the Canadian posts above me: I don't know why a couple of you are expecting Samsung to release updates? You are posting on XDA for crying out loud; learn how to root your phone, install custom ROMs/kernels, and stop relying on Bell and/or Samsung.
If you wanna have you hand help by a manufacturer, go buy an iPhone.

If this is what you've done to your phone, then great.. More power to you. But if others don't feel comfortable going this route, then that doesn't make them more wrong or right then you are.
I love posts like yours. They make me laugh. You like throwing your opinion around by making condescending posts to others.
Why are we expecting updates from Samsung? BECAUSE THEY STATED THEY WOULD, but their dates keep changing.
If Samsung took the stance of not updating any longer, then fine, you'd have an argument. However this is not the case so keep your condescending posts to yourself.
Oh and P.S. - XDA is much more than a place to root and flash your phone. While there are ROM cookers/chefs in their kitchens, it's also a community that develops end user software such as NOLED and other things. You are welcome to use XDA however you wish, and others can use it the way they feel.
All carrier locked phones have late if any upgrades. It is not just the USA/Canada. The truth is yes Google make the bare bones Android it is then released to Samsung who do what they do, that is install Touchwiz and then they release it to the non carrier locked phones at the same time or probably earlier they will have released it to the networks for approval to put on their phones. The carriers then do what they do with their bloatware and lock-in's etc. It then goes back to Samsung who test it. If there is a problem with what the carrier has done then this repeats. Finally when it is properly cooked and ready to serve they wait for the carrier to give the go. Now this is where it gets problematic as the carrier wants to sell new phones and contracts so they delay as much as they can so that people will upgrade to the new phones/contracts with the shiny new OS's already on them.
How do I know this. Well in the UK we have 5 or 6 carriers. All use the same radio and all sell Galaxy S phones yet at least one of them, even though everything is identical, has not released Gingerbread yet. And all the other rollouts were strung out across months.
So the moral of this story is Either buy unlocked or burn your carrier's ears off with complaints. Not Google. Not Samsung.
While this is somewhat true, it is Samsung, not the carriers that release the software.
As for sales, Samsung stands to gain much more than the carrier does when it comes to sales. Granted, if the carrier only sold 1 brand of phone there would be a good argument there, but they don't.
Samsung is the one telling people on their facebook page that there's good news coming for owners of the SGS in Canada, not Bell.

Bell's bloatware is not what's causing the hold up. People with Cooked roms can get every one of their bloatwares off the market.
Its definitely not Google's fault. I'll agree with you there. Google envisioned Android rollouts differently.
However to lay blame on the carrier is ludicrous. I say this because HTC released 2.3.4 for their Incredible S. That is a phone Bell carries. Its also a phone that has bell's bloatware. If Bell is withholding Gingerbread to sell more phones, they would have with every phone across their line, not just the SGS.
Their was also an internal memo leaked from Bell stating the SGS would receive the update prior to the HTC in "early summer". This "early summer" thing was even stated on Samsung's facebook page at one point (prior to the leaked memo), but was deleted for unknown reasons. Now Samsung's facebook page is saying late summer, but Bell isn't saying anything other than "contact samsung" or "We're waiting on samsung" when you call them.
At any rate, everyone can have an opinion as to who to blame, or who's accountable. But it's Samsung opening their mouth about updates, so it only leads me to believe that they are the alpha dogs here who decide when and what gets released.
So you are actually commending Samsung for releasing a crap product and fixing it near the end of the product's life cycle.

Nowadays my SGS is running as it should, but I don´t forget the disappointing early days, when crappy Eclair made me almost return it to VF and exchange it for something usable. As soon as I learned how to use Odin my phone got a deep transformation, but that doesn´t excuse Samsung for releasing such a crap.

And IOS is now on version 5 beta? So even they release unfinished firmware for public testing and then do updates. It is the same with every OS there are always bugs, beta testers and updates/upgrades.
I just wanna say one thing.
Samsung dont have Galaxy S users in hmm "ass" bcz he doing still update's no like HTC, I mean now Desire.. Update bcz users do revolution... Its so sad...
I'd say that Samsungs gonna keep updating the SGS because they don't have a ****load of top end devices like HTC. Currently, only Samsung phone thats more powerful is its successor, SGS2.

[News] Motorola Shuts down operations in Asia!

I can understand that they want to concentrate on higher end devices, but why totally pulling out of Asia? They still have fans in Asia and they did not even try selling the Razr HD or something before coming to the decision. What was Google thinking there?
Also, Motorola SEA has said that they would continue giving customers support and warranty. However, after the news of Motorola's staff getting laid-off, people had been complaining that their questions were left ignored for days and they've yet to receive any replies to date.
(And to think I've still got a few months on my warranty)
It seems like a great excuse by Motorola not to upgrade the international atrix to ICS. Oh well, seems like I'll never be able to get my hands on the Razr HD

I'll wait for reliable or official sources to confirm, but this would be quite drastic. BGR India, hmmm. I can't imagine they would pull out of China, where their phones are literally sold at every store in every city. While they have never been crazy popular, they seem to have always done well in sales volume. They just opened an official Motorola store at one of the malls in Guangzhou, so I wish I knew some Mandarin I could question the news coming out. Hopefully they are simply cutting down on the number of models they sell, and going to concentrate just on a few core phones. I would hate to see Motorola exit the market, especially now with Google's influence.
I suppose my next phone was like going to be from Xiaomi or Huawei, but if I could find a new Motorola in the next few months that can make me as happy as the Atrix, I would stick with them for their great hardware.
The Motorola Southeast-asian Facebook page has gone ridiculously silent, not even replying anyone in the last few weeks (other than updating their website and info). Customer support also dead.

I don't know anything about Asia as a whole, but in Israel at least, Motorola Mobility closed all their facilities and laid off all their workers. I think that it is something that came directly from google, as a way to cut their losses or something like that...

They are always silent and not responding to queries. Their support is as good as dead. I am glad my warranty is about one month left.
Motorola stock ROM sucks and they just provide one pathetic and buggy update from Froyo to GB. Motorola has never been popular in SG, their reputation is really bad. Almost everyone is using iPhone or Samsung Galaxy phone. IMO, Google is trying to cut their losses. They are only interested with Motorola's patents. Haha..
I am sure it is to cut losses. But methinks Google is gonna try and bring USA back into the mix sooner or later. Pure speculation on my part, but Google does need to cut as many losses as possible before they start investing more here. Investing in the USA is very costly and a big uphill battle right now when you're competing against pennies on the dollar. No need to look farther than the nexus q. It was shunned before it was even released because of price and features. If america wants jobs, they need to buy home brew and see that Google is one big beta company and the features will come if you're patient. Not much of that in the USA either. Short term profits are more important than long term stability. See where that is getting us in many other markets?

This includes, among others, mainland China, which remains one of our main R&D hubs (and where I am based).
