[ISSUE] Touchpad stopped working? - Eee Pad Transformer General

I'm terribly sorry if this question has been asked over and over again, but I tried to search but couldn't find a similar case. I called even ASUS's customer service and they were unable to help.
Anyway, after updating to 3.1 firmware, it seems that my touchpad has stopped working when using the dock.
- All buttons on the keyboard work perfectly
- Touchpad doesn't do anything, there is even no cursor on the screen
- I have tried factory reset and the touchpad is turned on (via fourth function button from the left)
- I tried plugging in a USB wireless mouse receiver and that works perfectly
Has anyone had the same issue and have you find a solution?

Does the dock icon appear on the bottom right?

May work if you let the battery drain but for others of us that had the issue we had to return them. Including me there are 3 people at work with one and two of us had to return for this issue. Someone else posted they knew a Fry's that had to replace the floor model 3 times. Its a very common problem and 90% of the time no fix. It appears software so eventually there may be a fix.

OK, thanks for the info. I'll try draining the battery out.
Sucks to hear that it might be unfixable because I bought the device from a different country I live in so returning it is a hassle.
However, given that the keys of the keyboard work and so does a USB mouse, I might settle with the device for a while and wait if it is fixed in the possible 3.2. update.
(Malandro: yes, the dock icon appears in the lower right corner and works otherwise perfectly OK, only the touchpad/mouse thingy is unresponsive)

Just for good measures you didn't hit the disable/enable touchpad hot key on the dock did you? Sometimes things might be simple. K.I.S.S (keep it simple stupid) method has bit me in the butt plenty of times.

No, I wish it were that simple. It's enabled, I've tried enabling and disabling tens of times but doesn't change anything.

Seems like you gave a lot of thought, and did all the tests. I think your touch pad might be bad. It is weird because the timing coincides with your 3.1 update, but it happens. There is one final thing to test. You can place your dock on another transformer, friend or display model in store.
I suggest you try warranty replacement rather than opening the dock yourself. It is almost impossible to open the dock without leaving some traces, in my opinion. Can you return your touch pad for replacement or warranty?
Good luck.

lockbot break touchscreen?

Hello all, im still having issues with my touchscreen being i guess mapped incorrectly or sometimes hardly working at all. The more i think about it the more i have to think it can be fixed and also i think about anything that could have happened to the phone b4 it started acting up and there was nothing, not a drop or hit. The only thing i can put on the same timeline is right after i installed lockbot is when it started acting up, is this by chance only or is there a chance lockbot modifies a file that could affect the touchscreen? Any help with this or even ideas would be great. Thanks, veritas
Ps...also after searching google for a few days i noticed a good bit of people posting that they had diff issues after installing a couple diff lockscreen apps, the only issue is that they are all only open post with zero responses to point in the right direction. Thanks
This happened to me too after installing lockbot.
I'm gonna try to reinstall the firmware and will get back with the result.
Currently it just comes and goes .. mostrly comes.. The bottom part of the screen doesn't work at all, and the sliding seems to work harder. Also, when I type a message in landscape, I press a key, and another one is actually shown to be pressed.
I also tryed different versions of lockbot, 1.8 and 1.13 before the touchscreen sarted to have problems, but when it actually happened, I had version 1.8 installed and it froze when I was using it.
Just reinstalled originial firmware, and problem didn't go away.. this is starting to get serious..
i seriously doubt it's related to lockbot. many people use it with no issue.
yeah.. lockbot might have been a coincidence.. I realized that I was using a different charger (not the original one) when using the phone when this problem appeared, and this seems to be consistent with the problem.
Actually I was charging the phone from the usb port of the computer, using also an USB extender.
I'll take the phone to waranty .. I tryed removing the battery and not using it for a day, leaving it to use up all the battery.. no success.
I think that there may be some wild static running through the phone from when I charged it off the usb.
If I play with the phone a lot now, sometimes the bottom part works bot not the top part.. and sometimes, I can press something on the screen just by hovering the thumb over it.
I'm getting the same problem! I press at the bottom of the screen and it selects something in the middle or nothing at all and at the home screen I won't even touch the scrren just hover my thumb over and the screen responds like its trying to go to the next screen but then gets stuck in the middle.
I called t mobile and they said to soft reset or hard reset, did both and no fix.

It's definetly a hardware issue.. it's sad that these touchscreens are so sensitive to the charging currents..
I would have imagined that they would have added some protection for this ..
btw, it's not just a htc hero problem, the web is full with all types of touchscreen phones being afected when using non original charger.

That's ALL T-Mobile knows how to do. Reboot your phone or reset your phone. If that doesn't work, they tell you its broke. Anyone could do that job.

ANY phone gets affected when using a different charger. People don't stop and look at the voltage of the new charger and leave their phone on it for 10 hours even though it's charged.
You can't protect from stupidity. Not saying any of YOU are stupid, but seriously, don't give your phone 100 volts when its made to receive 12.
I quess that ppl that use non-original chargers would read the voltage output..
Like I said above.. I just used the usb port from the computer to charge, if this is wrong, maibe they should have disabled it

I was saying here that other parts of the phone are just fine.. if there is a problem with the charger, why doesn't the whole thing brake.

Digitizer gone - but not completely dead... Any advice? [VIDEO]

Hey my lovely XDA-ers, I'm really hoping for some magic here...
Yesterday my HD2 digitizer just stopped working... the Touchscreen will not respond to any inputs. It was bitterly cold outside so I was half hoping that an overnight stay in a warm room would help, but no avail...
The thing is, on one in every 5 restarts, I get a small amount of life from it. One one in 15 restarts, I get full use. So there's still life in there.
I could understand if it broke because I dropped the phone/squashed it, but at the time I was just playing Robo Defence, completely normal use, when all of a sudden it stopped responding.
I've uploaded a video, which shows how, occasionally, the bottom fifth of the screen works. However, as shown, when I'm using the top half of the screen, the digitizer appears to be receiving input from the bottom of the screen, as though I'm trying to perform a multi-touch action. For this reason I'm hoping there still be some way to rescue the phone without an expensive repair job. I bought it in March from XDA Marketplace, and it's served me faithfully since, but because of that I do not think I have the manufacturer's guarentee, or insurance
I've hard-reset, I've reflashed my ROM, I've tried in both WM and Android (my usual OS at the moment), I've reflashed over WM ROMs, and the problem stays the same... (also read all related threads!)
Sorry for inverted nature of vid!
So does anyone have any suggestions to try? Otherwise I might go through a £130 repair service on htcrepairs.co.uk - they do not show up on a forum search so I was wondering if anyone had used their service before?
Thanks all, appreciate any ideas.
Edd
Very odd indeed. I don't have a solution for your problem, but a suggestion. It is a long shot, but might help.
Whenever i had similar problems with my Wizard (i know, kind of old but one of the best older devices every made by HTC), i opened it and cleaned it from the inside and checked all the connections of keyboard, touchscreen, etc. to the mainboard. Sometimes it helped...
In the end, if you buy the replacement kit, you anyway have to open the HD2, so why not try this in prior to buying the kit...
A lot of people seem to have this problem. There's a lot of information on it here. Do a search. But the short answer is its a hardware problem. If your phone is still under warranty send it back. I think HTC will fix it for free if It's less than a year old. But try your carrier first.

BAD NEWS...
i had EXACTLY this happen to me. eventually it totally stopped responding. Only option is to replace the digitizer.
GOOD NEWS..
After a month of searching, I found a really good guy to do it. www.iexpertstudio.com . The owner is VINCE. you can email him on his site. He charged $110 including mailing it back to me. He replaced the LCD and digitizer and sent it back. All works perfectly now.
I see you are in the UK so dont know if it makes sense to send it to the US. Alternative is to go on ebay and buy the screen/digitizer and replace it yourself.
(BTW normally i would have chucked the device, but even after 1 year I still dont think there is as versatile a device as the HD2. Had the DHD been 3G useable in the US I would have bought one.)
Thanks for the feedback guys, I've been doing some investigation my end (and you're right, there are similar threads on here, but none which had a "half-screen working" problem.)
I've narrowed the culprit down to my "Back" button. It's somehow exerting pressure on the screen, leading to either a non-responsive digitizer or an input at the bottom of the screen.
I might add this to an entry in the "ANDROID KILLS YOUR BUTTONS" thread
My choice is to live manually with it, or get the company mentioned in the first post to give it a good clean, but whether it's worth £80 just yet is a question for me.
Anyway, thanks for your input, guess this thread will close, but to any readers in future, if your screen seems to die, see if it's pressure on the screen caused by the buttons!
I can totally support your reasoning.
I haven't had any problems whatsoever with the touchscreen in almost a year of honoured career of this phone, while this morning I was trying to unlock it with no success (nothing special happened, I even used it 10 minutes this morning already). At first I thought it was the usual "sleepy" behaviour of the screen right after waking up, butafter sliding down the hdmini style unlocker at least 10 times with no effect I really started freaking out :O
I have longpress endkey set on instant reboot, and after that it seemed working... just not for too long.
To cut to the chase, what in my opinion supports your idea of hardware buttons interfering is:
sometimes, as I have LMT installed, with the tap&hold option enabled, swiping with just one finger triggered double swype instead (as if the screen detected a second, firm press on the screen elsewhere even if I sure as heck was swyping with one finger)
using mymobiler didn't work as well; if it was a hardware touchscreen problem, mymobiler should work, as it simulates touches, so it will just do its job even if the touchscreen is totally dead... while, IF the hardware touchscreen detected a firm press somewhere, mymobiler wasn't able to actively simulate another press
repeatedly pressing on the end key (which seems to be the culprit in my case) apparently solves the problem, as I can use the touchscreen again; also, a prolonged cycle of hibernating with end key, waking with end key, swyping down the hdmini lock (repeat at libitum) seemed to work, as if I dislodged something by activating the button so often
What I don't understand anyway is: HOW can a button pressing on the digitizer be exerting a touch action? If this was a resistive screen, I'd understand, but it's capacitive, and not even capacitive pens are so good as fingers in activating the touch. The buttons are just plastic with a metal contact underneath, and this metal contact shoudl by no means be anywhere near the digitizer.
Bah.
I know I have 2 years warranty on this device, but being far from my phone during the warranty processing gives me the creeps, so I'll just go on using it and pray this to be the defaillance of one sunday morning not to be seen again... after several soft resets (and fantasizing about a new rom flash, which I need anyway for other reasons) the problem seems to have settled by delicately bashing on the end key. The unlock slider is responsive after every wake up now... FOR now.
Praying...
My screen also died. So the only thing I have to do is press on the end key for a couple of times to make it work again?
lol, that's ONE possibility.
Just saying, in my case it worked, and still does since it happened once more this evening, so it's definitely got something to do with the hardware keys messing around (and hopefully dislodging themself for good, or I'll have to send it back for servicing), anyway in your case it could also be a dead digitizer, so no go
let's put all this about touch screen in 1 sticky thread pls.
I've been living for the problem for about three weeks now. It's never got worse, but never got better. It's a livable situation so for the moment I'll deal with it. I might check with HT about warranty, but it's not yet bothersom enough to make me want to flash back to stock, send it off etc. etc.

ditto.
Actually, I don't like having paid good money for a defective phone, but being without HD2 for up to a couple of weeks to one month (maybe? have no idea how fast HTC servicing is) is troublesome. I may buy for a deal a blue angel as a spare, yet, no GPS...
The most problematic event is if you get the "stuck" screen during a call.
In my case, it's the end key that messes it up; if the screen's dead, pressing twice the end key, firmly enough (once for screen off, then again for screen back on) wakes up the screen, and apparently, during a ringing incoming call, you can press the hardware end key without rejecting it, so it's a viable option (not taking into consideration the fact that trying to wake up the screen takes time, and the caller may give up after a while if you're not fast enough).
But if for any reason the screen gets stuck while the call is connected, I am stuck too, as to wake it up I should press the end key thus hanging on the other party.
Sad story.
EDIT: forget what I wrote, pressing end key while phone is ringing WILL reject the call. I tried it before during a real incoming call and apparently it didn't do it, but now it just did.
I also have a HD with a dead screen....
Only thing here is I have sent it back twice already to TelSuck here in Australia only to have it returned after the tech has wiped it over and reflashed it for me... What helpful little imps they are!
Code:

Its drivin me nuts sending it away for 3 weeks at a time to have someone with just enough grey matter to be able to wield a screwdriver tell me nothing is wrong.
Happy to try any suggestions!
@insinr8
this thread is just for half-dead screens where the screen sometimes actually works. Unless you can resurrect it by firmly pressing on the hardware keys, but if it's dead on a regular basis, then it's not our same problem I'm afraid :-(
@OP
while having an "attack", did you try plugging out the microsd to see if it magically solved the problem?
I mean, if it did, it would still be a hardware problem related to the microsd slot, since there is no point for a faulty microsd to mess up the touchscreen, and let it work from time to time

I will try that - it seems to happen more frequently when plugged in and charging, and now more buttons seem to be the cause/fix (e.g. now the home-button, or when I am on home-screens the phone will swipe "left", whereas before it would swipe "right". I'll keep playing.
I may check out HTC as I reckon my warranty, if I have one, will run out soon... Will still wait til after Xmas as I need my toy for the boring bits of Xmas!
I'm having same trouble now whit my phone except problems started mouth ago. After some period I again power up my phone and suddenly everything worked perfectly. Unfortunately this last only for two days and then exactly same problems happened, partially function screen.
As far as I know only good solution is replacing digitizer... I already ordered one for me.
exactly the same problem for me.. I sent it back with warranty yesterday

Ditto.
Actually, my warranty lasts two years, which means until 2012, anyway I cannot stand risking to lose calls because the screen dies on me in the wrong moment, and the only way to wake it up is pressing the endkey (which by the way is the only "cure", and apparently never the cause).
I will be uploading a video on youtube regarding this, also to show it to the guys at the HTC support who will be asking me to hard reset and reflash until annoyed to death (as if that will solve anything)
Bump
This is the video that I just uploaded to youtube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C3-PNYwpYeI
EDIT: One day after, the problem has become way more frequent, 1 out of three times I wake up the phone, diugitizer is dead and I need the " on the end key to make it work
Uploaded another video on youtube with problem showing on vanilla lockscreen so HTC support doesn't try and tell me it's CHT lockscreen's fault
Last bump.
Screen has ben promoted from "hardware key problem" to "permanent death".
Now I can use the phone with mymobiler, but I can't anymore with touch, I seem to not be able even to wake it up even by pressing on end key
Re-flashing last official rom upgrade now to see if anything changes... yeah,sure
Ouch - good luck, hope mine doesn't go that way...

Asus eee Pad Transformer Keypad dock does not worknd a

Can anyone give me a solution. My EE Pad Transformer Pad does not recognise the Docking Keypad....the tracking pad does wrk but no other buttons work. I use my wifes eee pad and locked it into the problem keyboard, and it worked. So my pad does not recognise the docking keyboard. Plese help
Check to make sure you are using the right keyboard. So when docked to the keyboard, change your input method. I can't remember if you use stock or Asus but either way you'll figure it out and that should get your buttons all working again.
There is a disclaimer when you plug in the dock for the first time to use the same soft keyboard but I had forgot about that and ran into the same issue. I don't have my dock with me and just don't remember which keyboard you select but check your wife's tablet and that will tell you which one to use since it works on hers.
Input method isn't the problem here. Regardless whether you choose hardkeyboard or thump keyboard or whatever, keystrokes should still work.
Try the following.
Restart your Tf. If that doesn't work, back up all your apps and data and do a factory reset. If that doesn't work, tell us and we'll figure something else out.
I just got my dock today (had the tf since launch) and i'm experiencing the same thing. Only the trackpad works, no keys work.
I bought 2 docks, one for my dad and one for me. Both docks work fine on his tf (his is stock) and both exhibit the same issue on my TF.
Initially i was running revolver, so I flashed to prime to see if that would fix it but no go. Still same issue.
I tried rebooting with dock on and off, powering off and on with dock on and off and same thing.
Just did a factory reset and still same problem
Any other ideas? Should I return to stock?
Both our docks are C10KAS and EP101-0213
When I got my keyboard my TF did a rom update on him, try to do an update manually and see if it works.

I'm returning to stock now. But when I tried both docks on my dad's stock TF, there was no update notification, and both worked fine.
Do you know the latest dock version?
Ok, so that didn't work :-( returned to .19 and still same issue. This is starting to piss me off. If both docks work on my dad's tf, and both docks exhibit the same issue on my tf, that leads to me tf being the problem.
I really don't want to RMA my tf because two of the corners are dented in from being dropped.

I guess this is an isolated incident :-(
I'm calling Asus on Monday and hopefully they won't say anything about the dents on the corners of the bezel when I send it in. Also hope they don't ask me to send in the dock as well because it functions as it should on another TF.
Until then, my dock is nothing more then an extra battery and mouse :-[

As of yesterday the top row of shortcut keys on my TF101 dock have stopped working. The back key (top left) and the lock, vol up and vol down keys work (top right) but none of the others. It all worked a couple days ago, I've had both pieces since June, but after a friend came over with his Prime last night the keys no longer work. Is there something he could have done?
I've tried every setup menu, cold resets and fiddling I can think of.
Something that may be related to my problem, and maybe others', is that I installed the free Logitech virtual keyboard right before this started. I was using it and got the warning message when I plugged in the dock, the message saying I should switch to the ASUS keyboard to make sure all the keys work correctly.
I did switch after noticing the problem. I even uninstalled the Logitech app and did several cold resets.
Exact problem

Touchscreen problem.

I bought my TF300 at Amazon June and basically it works well until yesterday.
The sympton is like someone keep tapping the specific areas of touchscreen and never stop, actually i haven't put my finger on ,even i didn't hold the tablet, just put it on desktop.
I had to tried to hold the power button to restart the TF300 several times and finally it looks become normal.
But this morning, when i power it on, the problem occurred.
Anyone have idea this problem ?
Weird. Do you have a screen protector on? If you do, you might need to take it off. If you don't, try cleaning your screen with the cloth it came with, also do a cold reboot (this is done by turning off your tablet then turning it back on holding the volume down button until you see some text in the upper left of the screen, after that just leave the tablet do he's thing, meaning don't touch anything else until it boots up). If that doesn't fix the problem, you will need to try to do a factory reset. If that fails to fix the problem I suggest you contact ASUS support or if its still under amazon's warranty exchange for a new one.

A friend of mine bought it in Amazon U.S for me and bring it to China, which makes me hard to exchange ( International post fee and custom tax).

Mine wasn't picking when I pressed on the screen... I open the back and saw a ribbon cable was kinda loose and held with tape. So I pressed it in and put more tape on it and now its fine with the response from the screen.

Fix for touchscreen issues
Hey guys,
I thought I'd post my solution to the same problem. It is a hardware issue and I figured it was because of how thin the device is. Basically, I noticed it when I would be playing or if the device started to heat up. Since the battery and screen are so close together, I figured there wasn't enough space and that the heat from the battery was making the tablet think that there was a touch input when there was none.
My solution was to open up the tablet and take the battery out. Then I put slivers of foam (about 1/2" x 2") in between the battery and the screen. Since then I haven't had problems with the touchscreen.
I hope this helps you guys with this problem.

Soft keys not working

Hello, suddenly my softkeys stopped working, I already tried doing a factory reset, reflash a different rom, but still no go.
What's strange is that even on landscape mode the keys dont work.
It doesn't seem to be a problem with the touch screen since the touch screen works fine as long as the soft keys aren't present.
Any help? Thnx!

Hi Salvy,
Did you flash a mod or another kernel?
It's a very common problem with the Nexus 4. I've been using paranoid android pie for 6 months to work around the issue. I can confirm that it is a hardware issue and not a software problem. A quick Google search can tell you that.

Got the same damn problem. I would normally use a smart phone for at least 18 months but the Nexus 4 only lasted 14 months. I was hoping to use it till the Nexus 6 came out but after sending it off to be fixed, using a dumb phone for 10 days and the phone came back with the same problem, I had to go buy a Nexus 5
My soft keys work in portrait but not in landscape. I enabled the 'show touches' option in developer mode and I can see the lower 4mm of the screen isn't registering any touch. Do a quick search on Google and you'll find there are loads of people out there with the same problem. The only solution is to change the screen and I haven't seen anyone manage to get it changed under warranty . I have sent it back and expect them to fleece me off £100 for a new screen.
Disappointed with the quality of the N4 but I had no choice but to get the N5 even though it is also by LG cause once you go Vanilla, you cant go back

Ok. so I have been told by the LG service centre in Mumbai that this happens when an android update doesnt get installed properly, it definately is an android update problem according to the service centre. But since i am out of warranty by @ DAYS I have to pay Rs. 5300 for no fault of mine... ****ed up!!!
I found a solution somehwere on the internet!!
I had this problem for the last day this is the solution.
Download the application: GMD Auto Hide Soft Keys ★ root
Use it, toy with it and restart your phone. And it just works.
This worked with unrooted phones aswell, as the solution said. I don't know.
Your welcome!

I paid Rs 4700 which includes service charge, taxes etc in addition to the cost of the screen+ digitiser. The guys at service center dont have separate screen and digitiser but just both of them as single replacement. I just hoped that they could have better service centers and support, but you cant help.
Using `wm` command on phone via ADB shell to add an blank border on screen

Hello, suddenly my softkeys stopped working, I already tried doing a factory reset, reflash a different rom, but still no go.
What's strange is that even on landscape mode the keys dont work.
It doesn't seem to be a problem with the touch screen since the touch screen works fine as long as the soft keys aren't present.
Any help? Thnx!

I used virtual buttons for awhile, but in the end, discovered a way to do it without rooting, so long as you have the `adb` command line tool installed for development, and don't restart your phone that often:
From a command-line termal:
```
# Log into a device connected via USB.
# (Look for a tutorial on using adb, as it need some config on the phone)
adb shell
# Change the screen "overscan" using the window manager tool on the phone:
wm overscan 0,0,0,80
```
The trick is that, overscan essentially adds a buffer (black bar) on any side of the screen for positive numbers. (the screen extends "offscreen" for negative ones.) `wm --help` will show you that the accepted format of overscan is:
```
wm overscan [reset | LEFT,TOP,RIGHT,BOTTOM]
```
ie. you can either reset it to default, or set any border. In my case, I set the bottom border to 80 pixels, and that was enough to avoid the non-responsive section of the touch screen.
Of course, I assume this reset on reboot, but haven't tried yet. If it does, I'm sure someone can figure out a clever way to make it persist
Anyhow, hopefully this helps!
Found the issue and got it fixed
It worked for me. I had the same Problem and it occur when i bought new power cable. The i plugged the original blackberry micro usb cable for power up and it started working for me. Its weird but the cause of the problem is when i plugged the cheap micro USB.
Note:- this is my first update to any forum just to help people if someone has the same problem as mine.

Yes,it could be a microusb,i was in a hurry two day's ago and took one problematic microusb cable,when i put it to charge touchscreen has gone mad,it was ghost touches,slow respond,all until i turned it off,then after reboot my softkeys stopped to work,it was such for a whole day,i tried to remove batt and discharge pressing power button for 1 minute but nothing,cleared cache,uninstall app,but nothing...so i discharged it completely,took hairdryer and heated it for 45sec,and then charged overnight. In the morning soft keys worked....
This worked for me very good altought still present some softkeys bug (but just turn off the screen and turn on again and works again).
Look on google for nexus-4-navfix (gkraynov)

I have recently traded my NEXUS 4 and now own a Grand X Max Plus. Thank you for your help.
found solution in Chroma ROM
Hi Guys, was using CM 13 Android M, Soft keys stopped working. Tried flashed with multiple CM 13 nightly. No luck. Finally installed Chroma ROM. Over there keys are working fine.
I experienced this issue tonight and was able to fix it quickly.

Issue:
-Softkeys not working when located on the side of the screen closest to the charging port. Softkeys would work when the screen was rotated such that the softkeys were located on the side of the screen closest to the headphone jack.
Device:
-Nexus 4 running 5.1.1
Conditions:
-Battery was 85%-90% charged
What fixed the issue:
-Plugged the phone into a USB charger. I did not use a Nexus charger; I used a random LG charger I had laying around.
-Pressed and held the power button for 30 seconds. The phone powered off after ~10 seconds. Shortly after the phone powered off, the notification light flashed red for the remainder of the 30 seconds.
-Powered the phone back on. When the phone was finished booting up, the softkeys worked again.
What didn't work:
-Restarting the phone multiple times
-Restarting into Safe Mode
-Disabling Chrome (Settings >> Apps >> Chrome >> Disable)
