Well this is an odd one..... I used gingerbrake and it duely wiped the internal memory, fine I was warned and had backed up, then every 2nd or 3rd time I reboot the phone the Internal Memory has again been wiped.
So I installed the OTA update (pre GB I assume) and internal memory was all still there after it's reboot, I DID NOT then re-do gingerbrake and restart the phone a couple of times as it got stuck picking a cell tower to hang on to (odd radio area). After the 3rd or 4th restart the internal memory had been wiped again....WFT?!
Has anyone any idea what is going on and how to stop it from happening, become a pain in the ass to have 10gb of internal memory which is basically not useable on the grounds it may, at random, wipe it self on restarting the phone.

i have no idea, this problem is gone after unlocking the bootloader
Hi,
Had the same problem with gingerbreak before learning to unmount the memory before using it. Best to format it from windows, both internal and sdcard. That should do the trick.
If you don't have a pc, try busybox mkdosfs on the phone.
Cheers!
The thing is I havent used gingerbreak since I ran the OTA upgrade (think it's the pre Gingerbread thingy) but after running the OTA upgrade I have lost root. It still wipes the memory at random on reboot.....a bit anoying to put it mildly, will remove gingerbrake from teh phone and format the internal memory and see if I can sort it, and leave it rooted just for now.
Hi,
If you've used gingerbreak without unmounting first then until you format using a pc it will be unstable, flashing a sbf will not fix this.
Cheers!
Ah right I get you, sorry if I came across a bit thick
So instal gingerbrake app, then EITHER:
A) run it let it wipe the internal memory THEN format the internal memory using a PC
B) unmount the internal memory run gingerbrake remount internal memory
Either one of these methods should prevent this instability (with luck)
Cheer aye!

Cliff Notes Version:
Got the MY3G, did all the good stuff (rooted, CyanogenMod v4.0.4, Apps2SD, etc.,). However, after I configured Apps2Sd and the SD card with the partitions I could have swore I had 289MB (or something close to that) of free internal storage. I have installed numerous apps and it went down to 278. I know the Apps2SD worked, however what is taking up those 10 megs??? After I noticed this I began rebooting the phone after app installs to see if maybe the apps need to be pushed to the SD card during reboot. No luck. If anyone can throw me some advice or point me in the right direction that would be badass.
Thanks.
You do know cache does take up room? Also if you installed apps thats why it went down. its normal
your_helpfull_hand: This is my first Android based phone so thanks for taking it easy on me. Ok, I forgot about the cache....So, if I understand this correctly the apps will install on the SD card but the internal memory will still slowly decrease but not all crazy as if I was installing straight to the phone??
One more thing, after configuring Apps2SD how much internal storage should be left with (the phone being clean after loading Cyanogen)? As I mentioned I was originally left with 288MB or close to that. Is that about right? Should it more or less?
you should install the cache2sd app that's in the market since you have root. search "root" or "cache" to find it.
I used that app, stopped using it because when i went from browser back to gtalk had issues. Also to the OP it just matters how much you formatted for your ext3. I did a gig so I really don't care how manny apps i have. Also as of now i'm using 7mb of 89mb on internal so don't have any issues. Don't worry you have Apps2Sd don't worry unless you formated your ext3 for only about 150mb.
Today it opened my phone and it shows my sd card as damaged and all the apps are crashing all over the place, so i reverted to a backup and same deal, i installed the stock htc hero rom and it worked fine, i did a wipe and installed modacos 3.1 again and it finished but all the apps started crashing again and it had all the apps that i had installed previously, how do i restore my phone to a clean stock version of modaco 3.1 without keeping all my apps installed!?

Sounded weird, can agree with that. Are you using apps2sd? Try do a backup of your sd-card, format it, wipe and install ROM. Dont restore a backup or something.
Now copy ur files back to the sd-card and see if it makes any difference
Yeah, it sounds like your ext2 (or ext3/ext4) partition for apps2sd is corrupt. It may even be an issue with your SD card. SD cards are not optimized for ext2/3/4 partitions, and as I learned through running android on my Vogue, it's rare, but your SD card can become permanently damaged by using this filesystem on it.
If formatting your SD card like sinnadyr suggested doesn't work, I would re-partition the entire card, making your FAT32 partition smaller by maybe 512MB and have everything else the same size. This will obviously result in 512MB less usable space on the card, but at that point I don't think you'd have another option anyway.
(I may be off about the size of 512MB... I'm tired and drunk and can't be bothered to look up the actual size of the swap/ext2 partitions.)
If all else fails, try a new SD card.
Your Hero can be saved
Ok... I've had this... and this is how I solved it:
-save what you have to from sd to pc
-format sd
-partition from scratch
-reboot
-put what you saved previously back on
-done
sounds easy, but it actually took me AGES in between finding out and doing it.
In my case it was due to a combination of using a program to move the cache to SD AND mounting the SD card WHILE some app was doing something (APP2SD was enabled). All I know is I never used the cache to SD program again and 3.1 is now running smooth on my hero.
Good luck
Ciao
p.s. If the steps above do not seem to work just do all the Wipes, load another rom, play with it for 2 mins, then re-do all the wipes and start off. I know I'm being a bit confusing but trust me, problem will be solved eventually. Just make sure u have plenty of time when u start the whole process
V.
There's a guide somewhere how to repartition your SD card through ADB, this is what I did when the same thing happened to me and the partitions were corrupted.
Just flashed [EU/TMOUS][CWR] imilka's HD Sense Series v2.0 1.84[D2EXT][K:rafpigna 1.7 OC] on my hd2 which is an EU one. Had partitioned my 16GB sd card using MiniTool Partition Wizard, making 2 partitions i.e. about 11GB FAT32 and almost 4GB EXT2, both primary. Just copied the zip file of the ROM on my sd card and ran it through AD Recovery (400mb setup one, which is recommended with this ROM). Everything went smooth but after the installation, even if i run the browser i get the message: Storage Full..you dont have enough free space remaining in your phone's storage, whereas in Settings, SD&phone storage my Internal phone storage shows 3.52GB available. I also cannot install any new apps due to this problem.
Any help would be much appreciated.
its suggested not to use larger than 2gb ext partition
Had a same problem with my favorite Hyperdroid. After flashing i could not even receive any sms becaus they were rejected because of no space. And i did not have anything weired installed... I solved it by completly formatting again and tnen the whole prodcedure again.. Sorry but that was the only way that helped me;-) But actually i could not solve the prob itselve...
Thanks for your reply. Yes, mine is the same problem, can't even receive emails or browse the internet, the message keeps showing up. I'm ready to repeat the whole process by formmatting my sd card, but I have some simple questions (might sound a little naive as i'm new to flashing android):
1- Do I need to make only 2 partitions? Fat32 and an ext partitions?
2- Do I need to keep any other files on any of these partitions except the ROM before I start flashing through Recovery?
3- Do you also suggest, like Richy99 does, to keep the ext up to 2GB only?
just discovered answers to the above questions. Repeated the whole precess, repartitioned my sd card (this time 2gb ext), and finally got rid of that storage full message. There's a lag though...seems to be slow on my hd2. Moreover, I cant uninstall the apps that came with this. The uninstall button remains grey.

a) Use 1GB ext, NOT 2GB.
b) Lag is beacuse its a DHD rom, you need to wait for all the apps to sync or wait for OS to settle down. Let everything sync and then do a few reboots and wait some hours. Once everything has settled lag should be gone.
c) If you want to remove stuff use "System App Remover" from market.
d) Read your roms instructions properly.
Just looking for some help guys.
A few days ago my phone suddenly dropped from 20mb free space to 4mb and wouldn't stop giving me the warning about available space.
SO I remember this was an issue with people who upgraded to Froyo. So I decided to wipe my phone. after the wipe the phone started rebooting everytime I installed/upgraded an app.
So I loaded up RSD Lite and flashed Froyo on it and the phone now randomly reboots about every 2 mins. I even tried downgrading to eclair, but it just gives me errors when the flash is complete.
So just looking to see if anyone has any recommendations, or is my phone destined for that great recycle bin in the sky?
Hi!
Well, I belive that I may remenber a similar issue some months ago... I dont remenber well how I really fixed and I almost sure that it fixed by reflashing again with froyo, sine this is the only resource that I had to try it out... also seems that when You upgrades to Froyo is not possible to downgrade/return to a previous android version (and it seems that is not only in FlipSide, so seems the same for other Moto models...)
so, by the way, I may suggest... Remove Your SiM and SD memory cards, Put the phone in flash mode an reflash the froyo again, and also backup you personal files from Your SD memory card and erase everything from SD memory card (prefer reformat your SD card) and then when Your phone reboot normal and after an initial setup BEFORE recopy your personal files, AGAIN reformat WITH YOUR PHONE MENU OPTION Your SD card and do an factory restart... may sounds silly so lot of erase and wipes... but in my case, after this such harsh cleanning make my trouble phones working fine and stable again, and after that I restore again my personal files to my SD card.
Good luck and best regards!

THanks, I think you're onto something with the SD card. I remember months ago I had an issue with the phone rebooting if I had this one certain SD card in my phone. Thanks for the help and joggin my memory.
Has anybody else run into issue with running out of space ???
I just reset my razr M last week to factory because i kept having issue with memory running out. i reset it last week and only reinstalled what i had to deleted a bunch of crap as well as rooting it since i was taking it back to factoory and losing all my setup i figured id root it so i could reset again and not lose stuff but now today it says im out of memory again and clearing cache of a few apps (which is how i was fixing it before reset ) doesnt seem to be working the cache isnt full on anything and i cleared the ones that did have anything built up.....
Any ideas ?? it worked a week without problems and i have plenty of space on SD card if only i could move apps to sd card ???
Any help would be great

Do a safe boot. Power up & hold the vol down key, once you see the first splash logo, all the way home.
But I think you need a RSD lite restore. LOOK around with a real browser. I posted a House of Moto link in the general forum. There is one "stock restore" in my stickys
FDR doesn't always clear all the data. Do like Avi said and do a complete restore. Also, the phone doesn't have a lot of memory, so get rid of any apps that you don't use. There's no point in having hundreds of apps if you never use them. I DL less than 20 apps on both my phones and most of them are for root functions and a few "useability" apps.
If you have any big games (like Gameloft and EA games for example), they sometimes use gigs and gigs of space so you don't even need very many apps to fill up your /data partition.
What I do is move the gigs of data off the /data partition and to physical sdcard using the Directory Bind app. You will need to be rooted to use the app.
