Gingerbread update coming soon (possibly?) - Atrix 4G General

So I went to update my apps, and the app "Qik for Atrix" (which obviously is an app only for the Atrix) had an update available. When I went to look at the list of changes, the first one there was "Support for Gingerbread". Idk if the people who work on Qik are in contact with Motorola etc. but I just thought it was exciting that it is coming soon. I mean the "accepted" timeframe is July, right? And i thought I heard around the forums that updates are released on Tuesdays only? If that is the case, then there are only four Tuesdays in July, so yay!

only four Tuesday

if this is the case, should I even bother rooting and installing GingerBlur? I mean besides the greatness of root.

Why is that? Do the mobile phone companies abide by the same rules as for new music and video releases?

There is no point unless you want to stick with 2.2.2.

I am sure they are not in contact with Motorola, or know anything more then we do. Since they made an app for a specific phone, I am guessing the Dev owns one and keeps up with it on here just like us.

Checked for updates and I got upgrade to GB 4.5.47. Im on 2.3.4 so im gonna reflash sbf and try it

Qik compatibility for Gingerbread simply means changing the Camera driver used for the FFC, because Gingerbread uses a standard driver (across any Android device) for an FFC, while Froyo lacks that. As a result, any Android phone on Froyo with an FFC uses a custom-made driver by that manufacturer (Moto, HTC, etc), which is why the original Qik didn't work for the Atrix initially.
An update to Qik has no (read: ZERO) connection to any impending release of GB for the Atrix.

Please at least don't post your fail results after you realize you can't update in a new thread since there are already enough threads about this!
And BTW...........because of all the fail results already reported, yours will be an EPIC fail of Darwin proportions!

Op got his answer, thread closed.
Hansel and Gretel are busy looking for Gingerbread too.

Questions about Froyo...

So I have rooted my N1 and have cyanogen, when froyo comes out and I decide i want to try it out, do i have to upload the original rom and then upgrade? or what is the best way to do it? so i can go back to cyanogen if i decide i like it better? trying to keep it as simple as possible...Thanks!!!
You don't have to do anything. It will come out as an OTA, Cyanogen will get his hands on it immediately if not a few days before the release and it will be incorporated into his ROM. You will likely have an updated version from him based on Froyo including all his extra goodies before the stock OTA is even 100% rolled out [they usually do it over a couple days].

FroYo will be released in June.
Google I/O is next Wednesday.

2.2 will be leaked next Wednesday.
We will get it.
And laugh at people who haven't rooted.
P.S. Is it just me or does this question come up a lot? And probably will increase over the next few days/weeks...

From Adobe. Check this out:
http://blogs.adobe.com/conversations/2010/04/moving_forward.html
We look forward to delivering Flash Player 10.1 for Android smartphones as a public preview at Google I/O in May, and then a general release in June. From that point on, an ever increasing number and variety of powerful, Flash-enabled devices will be arriving which we hope will provide a great landscape of choice.

Flash requires 2.2, so a "general release" in June would mean that 2.2 would arrive sometime before then or concurrently.
Either way, we (rooters) will get both much, much earlier.
Thanks paul. I hope theres a ton of youtube videos that come from that convention.
I hope froyo has this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ae01yz5z99E
Also if you get bored, watch that video over again with closed captoning, very funny =)
I doubt google is bundling Flash with the AOSP code. That would mean adobe is making flash open source(not happening) or google is locking up android(not happening). With all the talk about decoupling the android OS, the chances of something like a video player being bundled to the main OS update happening are very very very minute.
Flash will be a separate .apk, but the OS will need the frameworks to support it.

It irritates me because he states it as a blatant fact, where it should be said as something less direct. It is a possibility.. but it isn't exactly set in stone to happen - especially with how Google has been so closed about this release.
Froyo being leaked would be a god send, but I won't be holding my breath, simply to be suffocated at the end.
Why do you guys think flash requires 2.2? It comes incorporated into 2.2 but if you have 2.1 you will be able to install the apk and be good. Adobe said flash is coming to android 2.0 and above.

I credit this to the lack of good stickies in this forum. Ok maybe I should change the word "good" to "useful" stickies. But there really should be a good Q&A sticky to answer everybody's question so that they don't ask it again in a new thread. For example: how many posts have you seen recently that ask "how do I root my phone?".. not many (unless its people panicing because they think they've bricked their phone) and thats because of that sticky at the top. I'm sure Paul will put together a guide (someday) and it will be at the top in no time.
Mod edit: I will pass your suggestion to the responsible forum mods.

Galaxy S Already Getting 2.2 Update Tonight @ Midnight

World Release! Android 2.2 FROYO on the Samsung Galaxy S. Tomorrow 12 o'clock'. AMSTERDAM
twitter.com/SamsungFirmware
At the look of this I suspect that getting 2.2 sent OTA for the Vibrant shouldn't be too far behind.
This is awesome, I heard the vibrant is supposed to get froyo early august. I am impressed with samsung, they are ready stepping up.
Do you think we would still get the update if we rooted the vibrant?

I don't see why rooting should stop you from getting the update.
If you have done more than just rooting, then I'm assuming you might have trouble getting the OTA update. Maybe someone more knowledgeable can chime in.
EDIT: By "more than just rooting", I mean if you have installed a custom bootloader or a custom rom.
Cool beans!

Yeah, but if you install it, you will lose root. There will be a modified rom that's rooted VERY shortly after it is released though (Probably before many get the OTA update).
Wow, that was quick! Glad to see Samsung is following through with their promise and fast.
Hopefully the Vibrant will get a release in early August.
if this also includes a GPS fix, i'll be picking up a vibrant within the next week or two... after i pay AT&T my last payment on that contract. whoo!!

there should be no reason for those who rooted to not recieve an ota update. however, if you flashed a custom kernal/radio then those ota's might've been disabled.

Looks like the Captivate OTA is a bit of a clusterf***

If you go over to the Captivate forum, many many many people are reporting failed updates, including possible brickage in some instances. There doesn't seem to be a common thread to the failure (root, lagfixed, custom ROM, etc.); it's just widespread and seemingly random. Some people have stock Captivates that won't update successfully, while others have updated rooted phones and maintained root.
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say "T-Mobile and Samsung, please take your time and make the Vibrant update perfect."

Not only that, but also if you read AC at all they are planning another OTA for the Epic because the last OTA slowed their 3G speeds waaayyy doownn
That's what I said in the other thread about the update. MAYBE, just maybe T-Mobile held off on the update for the GPS/other fixes just to see how the update did on ATT and Verizon and go from there. I'm not as upset over the fact that we didn't get any update, so I agree with you. Take your time Samsung and T-Mo and make this update awesome and worthy to hold us until 2.2 gets here

Read that tonight too. Other carriers are "Pawns" while T-Mo users wait while the bugs get fixed and the others have to deal with them maybe?
Wonder what this will do to everyone here who have been endlessly complaining about T-Mobile not updating fast enough like all of the other companies.
....Probably nothing now that I think about it.
Maybe T-Mobile is shooting for quality. I just wish they'd tell us about it instead of being super tight lipped. A simple "the update did not meet our QA standards" message would do the job. Saying absolutely nothing is only hurting them. Same for Samsung. Give us a release date for Froyo, even if it's Dec. 27th. They've got nothing to lose since people in the know are already being persuaded to not buy the phone and people not in the know are still going to buy it because of all the pretty colors.
What sucks is, them having to fix this problem is probably only going to slow down the time frame of when we should get our update.
My gfs captivate updated without a problem, I guess shes in the minority though

well let's hope that the update will be bug-free and the update process is not troublesome like bricking our phones..
is it possible that tmobile is not working enough on asking samsung to update our vibrant that's why it is taking a long time for them to update our phone? vibrant is the very first to be released and why is it the last one to get an update?? or is it because there isnt much vibrant users and thus makes samsung less focused on updating it? ughh

Seriously, someone should buy the programmers that work for these vendors an actual phone to test their releases on.
A lot of peole have been wondering if T-Mo/Verizon/ATT test their phones before launch. The only one that's had little issue is Sprints Epic. Samsung pushed for this device to be released in the States, even though people have been complaining about the GPS issues..
I too don't plan on accepting any OTA updates. I still don't understand why some of the peeps that visit XDA are all QQ over slow/lack of updates for the Vibrant. Does it really matter? we have had froyo for quite awhile now and I am sure the custom roms we have available are better than the bloatware infested stock that we would get from any official release. I couldn't care less if sammy ever releases froyo at this point.

Froyo has already been around for the Vibrant, what is needed is the 2.2 kernel source so the devs can optimize that and work out the small bugs like the 3.5mm jack for phone calls in Froyo...

DUDE use the ****ing search or google or something and wise your ass up, these threads are getting stupid as hell opening every single day. IF you want froyo then FLASH IT, why do you think the stock one will be that good? it will have lag from the RFS system, no root, chances are the ones that are out now are just as good as sammys or better, and will only improve when the real one comes out.
t-Mobile UK already delayed the Release of Froyo to it's customers. No reason given, but It was supposed to be released via Kies yesterday and no one go it. So a few sources are saying it is/will be delayed yet again.
Samsung told me the other day on Twitter that, "it's coming soon" that same BS, and they actually told me they were "abandoning" the Galaxy S phones (after I said they were...). Then I asked about if we would actually really see it before the end of December and they assured me we would.
I call BS on anything they say anymore about updates, we won't see 2.2 (OFFICIALLY) from T-Mobile or Samsung by the end of this year.

If we get an official GB update then JT will likely be able to pull a lot of things from it to fix our issues on VGB/CM7/MIUI such as sensors, call audio, torch, ect... anything that doesn't work right or has issues, if it is fixed in an official release, can probably be fixed from the official release.
Problem is, anybody that has been around with this phone for a while is not even pretending to get their hopes up for an official release. If it ever comes (which is doubtful) then it likely won't be any time soon. Not saying there is no chance, but we willl all be pleasantly surprised if Samsung and Verizon actually released something when they said they would.
I've had this phone since the day it came out. I've followed the promises & rumors, most of which have been rumors that are spread as fact, quickly.
From what I've seen, whenever Samsung has talked about an update, it's because they've finished it and given it to Verizon for testing. Usually around the same time, someone on here or another site gets a leaked version (makes you wonder if they're leaked intentionally and we're used as beta testers). From what I understand, and I could be wrong, Froyo was rejected by Verizon a few times, delaying the update. I don't know if it was a problem with the software itself or the update package, or both. We all knew Froyo was coming because we already had earlier versions, I ran EB01 for quite awhile before ED01.
I don't have any reason to doubt we're getting GB. We've already seen a leaked version, EC09. I tried it and lost an SD card so I see why it wasn't "officially" released.
I could be wrong, but from past experience, if SamsungSSupport is saying they hope to have some news soon, I interpret it as they have given another GB version to Verizon that they hope to be or has been approved by Verizon. After the missed call issues, I expect Verizon to test a little more thorough this time.

I've had this phone since the day it came out. I've followed the promises & rumors, most of which have been rumors that are spread as fact, quickly.

Verizon rejected it because Samsung, the greedy jerks they are, wanted verizon to pay them a bunch of money for the "r&d" done to screw it up with touchwiz... if I remember right samsung was asking for way more than any other carriers usually do for updates and so verizon said no.

I heard that rumor too. If I recall, Samsung and Verizon both denied it.
Final version of Froyo was not the leaked ones.

This was rumor and debunked by both parties.

Really. I must've missed that. Oh well......

After the Froyo fiasco (anyone else contact their April fool?) and working 5+ years in a corporate multi-vendor environment, I find it impossible to pick sides in such situations. These inter-company hangups can usually be resolved via a quick call between executives; consumer demand has little influence in making such things happen.

Exactly. They don't care whether or not we want gingerbread, they have other phones that might make them more money to worry about.
Well, we know they are working on it as we've already seen a leaked version. Hope they release it soon.
Whatever happened to that EH09 leak that supposedly was out?

Apparently it was for the other cdma carriers. I'm keeping an eye out for a ec09 and eh09 merge though.
