I was thinking that myself psp888 but I'm not too confident on that.
For some reason my says that already has the latest version which is 2.0.0.11044_11. Well it is not for some reason, it is for Kies reason..
Done the update and plugged in my phone (KE7) on the off chance of a further firmware upgrade but still states it's the latest one.
But it did connect to the phone right away which normally never happens.
Updated Kies but no new firmware.
In the SGS days (not that long ago) a new version of Kies was often just a few days before some nice new firmware releases.
Keeping the hope up, but we'll see..........

2.3.4 does not require a kies update for it to be downloaded or installed. Kies uses a specific protocol to communicate with your phone. Update is usually to add features or speed up things, improvements etc.

I thought that for those like me still not ready to root their devices can only update to 2.3.4 can only do so through Kies or go to a Samsung service center, or is there any other means?
My Kies bugs out every time I try to update, says the internet is not connected.
It also downloads more files than it is expected whilst retrying internet connection (eg. 54000/40000 KB).
Can anyone post a link to directly download the install file instead of using the update feature?

does the dll patch still work?
My guess is that it would require an update, since the dll changed and things inside probably moved a bit.

Updated Check Fus to work with the new Kies version.

I am using win7 x64 and I have not had an issue until now.
When I set my phone to connect to Kies the program loops opening and closing and never connects.
-Edit-
It was an app I had installed Either... Google sky maps, Google shopper or winamp (remove the newest apps and it fixed the issue)
They spend more time to make sure that people don't use reg hacks than on the roll out of the actual official fw. What a retarded company. :|
So annoying. Each time they do an update to Kies it effects the Firmware upgrade of the SGS.
My previous version of Kies 1.5.3.10103_100 stated:
"The latest version is already installed on connected device.
Which is correct as it's stock OPTUS Australian firmware and Froyo has not been released in Australia.
After the message indicating a new version of Kies 1.5.3.10103_102 was available, which I did not install, the statement changed to:
"This version can not be updated"
So are we being forced to do the Kies update.
I will do it and see what the message say's then but at this time things are not looking good for Kies, SGS and Samsung. Getting well and truly annoyed with the way they do business.
Have just updated which took less time then normal which is a step in the right direction.
Kies now correctly reports for my SGS:
"The latest version is already installed on connected device.
Whew.
Kies Registry Patcher 1.6.0.0
[WINDOWS APP] Kies Registry Patcher 1.6.0.0, patch registry on latest Kies
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=835628#
This tool is was designed in order to easily patch the registry to force Kies to update your Galaxy S.
This latest version of patcher works even with latest Kies (1.5.3.10103.102), all you have to do is to spoof your firmware version to and older one, you can even spoof the product code in order to change it.
The new spoof system works differently from the older patching system, it allow you to use the original dll of kies and works on latest Kies; It should even be future-proof.

I have the same problem with 1.5.3.10103_102 on my I9000 on a windows XP system, when I plug in my phone just get USB not recognized. Kies is a pain.
In my quest to resolve the FsUsbService64 Service Initiali Failed errors, I found a newer version of KIES on this website.
http://dls.scione-music.de/KIES/
Downloaded and installed Kies_1.5.3.10104_66.exe 20-Nov-2010 16:14 136M
and voila, no more errors !! Problem Resolved !!
However, I am not sure where this version come from as it is newer... than official Samsung version. If anyone knows ... pls share.
If you have USB driver issues, click on KIES pull down menu at top left and click on Driver Recovery. It should resolve your USB Driver issues.

And according samsung.de this is dated 5.1.2011. So it is out for a while
Thats odd os the one downloaded today although it has a lower build number is dated 29 January 2011, 23:11:02. The newest part is dated Feb14th.
When I download the update for kies it gets to the dowloading files part and is on 100% but carries on downloading past the 53642kb on something like over 233343 whats wrong with it? Also it keeps asking for internet connection and i click retry every so often? Is there anyway I can download the new version and uninstall the old one rather than updating?
i noticed that this new update is more responsive than the last at least they are improving their apllication

Guys,
Whoever is in Europe (Nederland) please check, Kies is offering me a new firmware, I am already on 2.2.1. Dont know what it is but I put kies on auto download new firmware for GTI9000 yesterday and I started kies, just now and he is giving new firmware.
Why I dont know version is because kies does not detect my phone on my laptop.
Somebody can check?
id check but im running 2.3.2 jv1 and it wont tell me....
The last firmware is the same as the current firmware, PDA:JS5 Phone:JPY CSC:JS3.
So no gingerbread yet..
Thanks for checking, I dont know, what kies has auto downloaded, till it detects my phone and popping up with new firmware, but ok....
You propably had js3.
Samsubmng stopped that update after a couple days, since a month you can update to js5 instead

Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
Mine is saying new firmware available, but in Kies it say JP5 is current/latest.
It's kies, so it's probably just a bug.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
I just got the popup too.
I'm already on the newest firmware for my country (js5).
But the weird things is: my phone isn't connected to my computer, but it's connected to my charger and it's off.
Maybe it's just a bug in Kies, or it means we'll get gingerbread really soon
Don't know tried to connect phone in different ways but no luck so far, windows 7 with Kies is a match made in hell. Yesterday it was okay and after kies update, problems again.
New firmware message is popping up when I start kies and I am already on JS5 so its can't be JS3 to JS5 or may be it's indeed a bug, tomorrow I'll try from work pc to see if really there is anything. This kies knew my device as yesterday it shown me no updates.
Smelling gingerbread....or hoping to smell
Is it saying that there is a Firmware update or just a Software update as if you look below there is a post on Kies 2 update for software which would explain why it popped up when the phone was not connected,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1003394
Understand your curious doubt but message popup is indeed for for firmware, not kies software update.

Cheers
The new Kies has two places to look re firmware upgrade. It can auto download the firmware in preparation, Look in Tools/Firmware Upgrade settings and the other place to look is to right click on device name and then Firmware upgrade (if there is not one it will be greyed out)
New Kies version out today. Maybe some other candy is right around the corner.

Installed the update obtained from the German site and all went well.
I did have my P1010 USB attached during the update (actually, it uninstalled the prior version first) then sync'd my calendar & notes from Outlook 2003. The 1st sync done in this version is STILL running, is in its 2nd pass, and taking a lot longer than the prior version, perhaps going through some set-up or ??. Will add to this post when check out the sync
Done, took about 30 minutes so hope this was related to the newer version but .... Worked as expected

I'm on stock currently myself. You don't need Odin for custom ROMs, there's plenty of stock already on samfirmware.com.
Kies already bricked my i9000m twice using Samsung official firmware. Samsung's response was that the firmware wasn't available for my area yet. I told them that Kies gave me the green light, and their response was still the FW wasn't approved yet. That was a PITA to get resolved.
Samfirmware.com has firmwares (including stock) that many have tried, and Odin takes the tedious waiting out too. Between waiting and 2 bricked phones from Kies, I am done with Kies forever!...

Hmm, Samfirmwares may be stock but not necessarily official releases. I don't trust Kies although I've never had a really bad experience using it. I just want OTA updates like I used to have on my Nokia 4 years ago!

There's a few that are 100% official. The rest are stock waiting for carriers to chop them up.
Honestly the only thing that you are waiting for is carrier bloatware.
BTW I used to be a Nokia e71/72 user myself...

Luckily mine is carrier-free. Discerning the "final official" roms and installing them whilst retaining my current set up is what concerns me. Like I said, petitioning for OTA updates.
It would be best to work like google chrome browser auto update. It downloads the update, and next time you start it it installs. No questions asked... no time wasted... Always the newest firmware. OTA of course. It could work on android. Downloads update, waits for restart. When restarted if battery >60% installs. Piece of cake...

Lol
Samfireware.com does carry stock Samsung roms (it is not an official Samsung site) and they aren't official releases.
I have the 2.3.5 update from there and it is noticably quicker that the official 2.3.3. That being said kies detects the new version and says that its not official and that the upgrade service is not available for non-official versions. If samsung release an official update I might flash back to and older version then update through kies if I really had to which is no drama.

The instructions were posted just after the last official update in August. Hopefully a sign that OTA is on the way.

Guys, i need some help/tips about updating my Firmware. I have a samsumsung GT-I9000 with Android 2.2 (Froyo). I know that there is a newer version (2.3 or so).
I downloaded Samsung Kies but on the general information screen it doesn´t give me the option to update the firmware version, it is only showing me my firmware version (not the latest version available, neither the chance of updaiting it).
I have tryed to install the Kies in differents PCs and I had the same issue.
My GF has a Samsung 5500 (Samsung Galaxy Europe) with Android 2.1, and we had the same problem trying to (or not having the chance to) update the firmware.
My first option is to try with Kies as it is an official source (I don´t want to have troubles with the warranty), but if it is not possible let me know any other way to update our phones.
I will really appreciate any help.
Cheers,
It sounds as if your SGS is tied to a carrier, in which case you are dependent on them for their version of the upgrade.
I would contact them first. If you get no joy there your only option is to "unlock" the phone from that carrier, thus enabling Kies to give you the generic upgrade.
This is what I did. I was locked to o2, here in the UK. Upon unlocking I get the latest generic update via Kies as soon as it becomes available, which is months before o2.
