guys what gamepad is currently working for your 3.1 acer iconia?, i tried 2 gamepads already but both of them did'nt work
ps3 controller and a generic usb gamepad
no ones using any gamepad here?
Actually this topic have been there before...
What I know is xbox360 pad work, even sony play station dual shock 2 also work
And ps3 pads that use dongles seem to work as well. No luck with official ps3 pads

Logitech controllers work beautifully also..

Ooooooooohhhhhh man.
i've been using a saitek cyborg gamepad, its got a usb dongle as well as a ps2 dongle on it.... works great with pc, ps2, and ps3... aaaand now my a500 love it
Hey, sorry for not reporting a controller that will work. So far I don't have one that is seen by the Iconia. I've tried a couple different wired generic usb controllers and a wireless Xbox controller with the usb adapter.
I would like to save someone the trouble of buying a usb wireless adapter for a wireless Xbox controller specifically for their A500. I've tried one, and the dongle powers up and appears to be functional, the controller won't sync to it. Works great on the pc and I highly recommend one for that.
Maybe someday, but it doesn't seem to work for now.

strange since i just used mine this past weekend for a good hour playing megaman x on snesoid.
it took me a bit to get it to sync, but it did eventually and it does work fine
as a matter of fact, people should check out this thread from the past weekend, various controllers seem to be tested as well.

i know that my madcatz ps3 sf4 fightpad and 360 wireless controller with dongle does work. my ps3 controllers (sixaxis and ds3) would charge and when plugged in would not power on my ps3 or work with it.

Got any tips? Do I need to goto the settings on the A500 and do something or should it connect without any interaction on the tablet? I've been trying for 15 minutes or so and I don't get anything but rotating lights on the controller.
This is the adapter that I am trying to use. It is the official Xbox branded one.

out of curiosity, in snesoid and nesoid when i go to set any buttons other than depad i get an <unknown> when i press any buttons.... for whatever reason the dpad works fine, and in another snes emulator my gamepad works fine i can use all the buttons no problem as well in playstation emulators. Did you have any sort of weird issues like this when setting yours up?
Dang. I wish Tiger Arcade scaled correctly with Honeycomb. All Metal Slugs and tons of great fighting games would rock with a controller (duh).
Tiger Arcade scales fine on Froyo tablets but not Honeycomb. Just a tiny window.

I have an otg cable and still can't get this to work. They touted this at Google io so I know it can work.
I was thinking about this with ps3 and 360 controllers earlier. I'm thinking there's a good chance the wireless dongle will work for the 360 controller, but the thing that annoys me is that--other than just putting the xoom flat on the table--there won't really be a good way to prop the xoom up for a good viewing angle with where the ports are.
Edit: if the dongle doesn't work, it's going to have to be the "charge and go" or whatever that plugs into the controller and has a usb connector.
I could be wrong, but in the presentation I dont think they said the wireless 360 controller itself - they said PS3 and 360 Controllers and since they did say the PS3 wouldnt work through bluetooth I assumed the 360 Wireless wouldnt work either but the full USB 360 would.

Yeah, I have the datel wireless classic controller ordered since before the update was announced (should come in tomorrow!).
EDIT: 360 controller charger adapter does NOT transfer data. Whoops!
Let me know how that works for you, may go that route

If you want to use your 360 controller without buying another one, this is probably the cheapest option:
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Black-Play-Charge-Kit/dp/B000OYMYZQ/ref=dp_cp_ob_vg_title_1
This basically just makes the 360 controller a usb device while charging it, so I can't see why this wouldn't do the trick.

Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk
the usb cable does not transfer data it just charges the battery using usb from the Xobx. I have this for my Xbox. I would also like a wiresless control like the PS3 or 360. I use my wiimote now but i dont like the way the buttons are setup.
Yes as others said, the charge cable does NOT make your controller a usb controller, it only uses usb to charge it. I've never played with the dongle and my xoom hasn't arrived yet but I would assume the dongle uses different drivers than the usb controller. You might be able to get it to work by finding those drivers.

Yes, it works! If you're talking about this dongle, I also have it and can confirm it works. I've been using it this afternoon to play some emulator games with my wireless 360 controller!
It's awesome, because you can connect multiple 360 controllers to the Xoom this way. The problem with that though, is that the Xoom can't seemingly differentiate between input on controller 1 and input on controller 2.

I use the standard portfolio case and just put the Xoom in that upside down. The screen orientates itself to flip and then the ports are on top. Aside the branded logos on the screen being upside down you would never know the difference.
Here ya go!
It can be used to navigate the homescreens and menus, but it doesn't work too well for that. Seems to work well with Gensoid though, haven't tried it with anything else yet.
I was on the latest Tiamat kernel until 3.1 dropped, then followed this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074609
I haven't done anything else special to make this work. It just did! When in Gensoid, I just went Settings>Input Settings>Key Mappings, and mapped out the necessary Genesis controls. The 360 input shows as "unknown" in the settings, but it still seems to work great

I don't understand the hype around it. Why carry a controller around to play games on a 5 inch screen? Makes 0 sense to me. I was able to play Metal Gear Solid, FF7 & 9, Tekken 2 & 3 no problem with the fpse OSD. If you could somehow transform the controller and the z into some kind of nvidia shield, that would be a different story..

Yup, just the normal micro host cable. Then plug in Usb to mini into your controller. Sync them up and you're done! Disconnect and play wirelessly! You can use SixAxis Controller to add support to games that don't natively support the controller.

You just have to connect one time with the cable to pair it, after that you can use it wireless until you pair it with another device and you need to re-pait it with the cable. It's a one step operation easy and fast.

Strange, for me its seems to work as should using FW 4.2.2 .423 ES, check your controller first with a PS3, also when you use OTG cable in the xperia settings it marks a blue notification when the phone recognizes the controller after that just disconnect and use bt instead.
It wont work here, i bought a female usb connector so that i can connect the USB cable of my Xperia z with the USB cable of my PS3 controller. Anyone an idea why this wont work? I think it gives the same effect like the cable discribed in other massages (from Xperia to USB)...
Hi there,
let me explain my goal. I want to use my shield for all my PC gaming. Portable around the house, and that is great when the main TV is being used by other members of my family.
But also it's great to connect it to the TV when it's available. My main PC is a desktop one used for working and when I play I don't want to be there. I prefer sofa, bed, etc.
So, I wanted to have a fine console experience in my sofa in front of the tv, but wirelessly. I have these accesories for it:

USB OTG, HDMI, USB hub, USB-ethernet (the one that actually works is this: http://plugable.com/products/usb2-e1000 ), and wireless Xbox controller with the usb receiver.
Well,
I almost have it, but not 100%.
HDMI works
Ethernet works
USB hub works
Xbox controller works but D-pad does not, and that is frustrating, because every other button works fine and it's a joy to lie in my sofa to play that way. Some games need the D-pad and because of that this is not a solution.
The other way to use the Xbox controller is leaving it connected to the PC and it works good when I'm in front od the TV because my PC is just upstairs. BUT, most of the games when launched from Shield ignore the controller of the PC and only work with the Shield itself...
Is anyone crazy enough to try this way of gaming?
I know the Nyko dock would help to achieve this, but it's completely missing since it was announced...
Would a bluetooth gamepad work with all the buttons (D-pad included) for a perfect PC streaming experience???
Tomorrow I friend will let my try a PS3 controller. Let's see how it performs. I did not want to root, but I will at least to try it wirelessly.

I use an OnLive controller. I haven't tried the XBox 360 Wireless dongle, but Bluetooth works great. If you're looking for a controller that has similar build quality and characteristics, I strongly recommend the OnLive one, even without the service (I don't have the service, just the control).
I'll give the dpad a try this weekend and verify it works on my SHIELD though, since I haven't tested that extensively.

Thanks for answering.
Yesterday I tried a PS3 controllorer. I rooted my shield to use it wirelessly with the sixaxis app, and it works exactly the same as the Xbox controller. All the buttons are OK, except D-PAD ones.
It's weird, beacues the D-pad buttons work fine in the shield interface but not with PC-Steam games. It's a very small detail but if Nvidia solves this in future update would be perfect.

I didn't try streaming (I handle only the Android side of things) but I'll make sure a bug exists about it. I'll bet it'll get fixed pretty quick.
Same issue here!
I am having the EXACT same issue! Everything works perfectly except for the d-pad. I've also noticed that the right analog stick does not work like a "mouse" on the home screen like the native controller does.
If these 2 items would be fixed, I would have a veritable portable "steam machine" in my living room!
Will follow this thread and hope there is a resolution soon! I bought the Xbox 360 Receiver for this express purpose! Note: The wired 360 controller works perfectly, so was surprised about the wireless one not working.
The wired one is special, but I'd expect thus stuff to get fixed. I'll try to look into it.

http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
And a true Xbox 360 wireless controller:
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Controller-Glossy-Black/dp/B003ZSP0WW/ref=pd_sim_vg_1
If you root your shield, the PS3 controller is a good choice too. Less cables involved because you will be using bluetooth to pair with the shield.
But as we said, it's not a perfect experience. Many PC modern games use D-Pad buttons for extra options and without them you can't play properly.
I think you're being too literal on "not working" there King Conan. Read his post, he's having the same issue with lack of d-pad on the wireless. He considers this to be not working probably because of games that require the controls. I would have to agree, I use d-pad all the time.
but he says the wired works and the wireless don't...
Both work exactly the same, that's why I didn't get him.
It's not just the wireless with the d-pad problem, wired is the same way?
Yes D-PAD problem happens wired or wireless.
The funny thing is that DPAD works fine in Android interface but doesn't in PC steam games.
Gotcha, sorry. I read the entire thread but for whatever reason I took away the problem was exclusive to wireless.
Hopefully they fix it in the next update, I just ordered a micro-HDMI cable and USB OTG adapter ;/
The wired and wireless ones report currently to Android at the low level.

I've confirmed that there is definite work to improve external controllers, and we're working directly with multiple controller vendors to ensure their BT controllers are optimized for gameplay.

Did Nvidia say that?
Or do you work with them?
That's great to hear.

I'm a technical lead on SHIELD at NVIDIA. So yes, they did say that. I had to get details from management about what I could say before I could make any official statement about improved controller support.

Sweet! I've been trying to get the Mogo Pro controller working with my Shield, but to get the Universal Driver to work, it has to be rooted. Not going to root my Nvidia Shield, having too much fun with it. Once I get a reasonable wireless controller working with my Shield, this thing is going to be a powerhouse game console connected to a 50" TV.

Hi tincore!
can your app replicate all the shield buttons including the D-PAD ones? Have you tried in a shield?
Makes any sense to try your app with a xbox controller?
thank you!

What you mean exactly by replicate? Every button and stick funcion can be remapped.
I don't have an xbox controller but I imagine that the kernel has the gamepad modules so if you are rooted it should work. If you are not rooted this is also possible but I would need a data capture so I can include it on the next release.

well i do not know about my keyboard but my mouse is working just fine every time i plug it in, so im assuming they keyboard is working although i have not test it out only the mouse, good luck
Any Logitech devices using their unifiying reciever should work. I don't have access, at the moment, to both mouse and keyboard models I use but they are plug n play. For some reason, I find it only works on the left port (looking at it from the back side).
I'm using the Logitech K480 bluetooth keyboard with no problems. And the Lenovo Multimedia Remote with keyboard works well.

I am using a powered USB hub. When you say the left port do you mean the standard usb port or the micro usb port?
I'm using a 15 dollar one I got off of Amazon. Its not Android specific though.

Logitech k400 works great.
I'm using a K400r by Logitech on my Shield TV unit, have to use the range extender included with it for it to work unless I'm standing over top of it.
I wouldn't dream of playing games due to the trackpad being a bit "touchy" at times but the multimedia keys work surprisingly well with VLC and MX Player with no additional drivers being required.
I'm happy with it, I can navigate with it without having to use the controller and it fits comfortably on my lap.
I'm using Logitech K810 via bluetooth with no problems.
I think any standard USB keyboard should work. I have a rather old and non-standard keyboard and it works fine out of the box.
My Logitech K830 with intergrated touchpad works fine. Also my mini bluetooth keyboard also works
http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00BX0YK...m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_r=0REH4T44TACV45T1HCC3
Trackpads work fine on both of them.
This Logitech Media Pro one also works well:

Logitech diNovo Mini works great on mine. Escape key works as back button which is a bit awkward as it isn't a unique key and requires FN to be pressed too. Works great otherwise though.
A cheap one (3+ yrs old) that goes by various names on Amazon like Rii Mini, FAVI FE01 etc http://www.amazon.com/FAVI-FE01-BL-Wireless-Keyboard-Touchpad/dp/B003UE52ME/
I think all of them say RT-MWK02 in the back so you can search by that. There is a newer version of it RT-MWK06 (Backlit)
Don't expect it to help type emails but it does an awesome job staying on the palm for all navigation needs on Shield Full Android and or Kodi within it.

tried many keyboards - the winner is .....
Adesso Wireless Mini Keyboard with Trackball (WKB-3000U)
This KB is by far the best for me. I own 4 of them.
The only 2 issues with this kb are the backspace key is too small and the mouse ball is not designed to be cleaned so a bit of a hassle.
I have not gotten the right click button to act as the back button on any keyboard with the shield TV.
I have an old Logitech one with a built in track pad that I use and it works great.
I have this one and have not had a problem with it.http://www.amazon.com/D-CLICK-Quali...bs_147_56?ie=UTF8&refRID=0P13YYZQ3CEC277DGW9T. Amazon has many of this type, some have backlight.

Turn Your Old Android Into A Chromecast
A Chromecast isn't the most expensive device in the world, but if you've got an extra Android device lying around, I would recommend saving the $25 and using it as a Chromecast. This can easily be done with just a few modifications. I'll show you how to get everything setup.
Things you'll need:
1. HDMI Cable
Most Android devices within the last few years will have an MHL compatible Micro-USB port. This means that you can get an adapter to plug your phone into an HDMI cord. You can pick up one of the adapters on Amazon for next to nothing.
Micro-USB to HDMI Adapter
2. Unwind Launcher for TV BETA
You'll want to install a launcher on the device that you'll be plugging into your TV. Unwind Launcher is my favorite and it's designed to be used on a big screen. Download this from the Play store and install it on your Android. It's free!

3. Tablet Remote
Tablet remote is an app that you'll install on the device plugged into the TV and on your everyday Android phone. This will let you use your phone as a remote to navigate your makeshift Chromecast device.
Download Tablet Remote
Once you've got everything that you need, you'll just plug in your phone to your TV and pair your two Android phones so you can use the remote feature. That's it! Now you have a fully functional Android TV device.
I've been trying to figure out how to do this except as a media (audio) receiver to use as a bluetooth dongle for use with auxiliary jack.

Great, care to show us how? Cause that's not evenly remotely linked to what you did here.
Using something like this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/har...p-youmap-chromecast-receiver-android-t3161851
or this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/hardware-hacking/chromecast/app-cast-receiver-app-android-t2900726
might work (and these should work in the background along with the launcher you suggested here, meaning you get both a GUI on the TV and the ability to cast)

I had never heard of tablet remote but there's quite a few other options. I use droidmote. It's paid but I think it works best with android tv.
Agree with other posters. This isn't a fully functional chromecast. I was thinking I could cast my computer to the TV. This seems to just mimic an android tv box except you don't have a dedicated remote and most will need to buy the usb to hdmi adapter (if there old phone is compatible.)
BTW--I don't have much of an interest in this but why not use leanback launcher? Wouldn't that be better if you are trying to turn it into android tv?

Very true. I have 6 androids....not a single damn one has mhl support
I have an acer a500 tab and moto atrix hd, both having a dedicated micro-hdmi port. unfortunately tablet remote gave error-1 on both devices when I tried to setup the connection.
Some androids use slimport instead of mhl

You are right! I'm looking for chromecast-ish app for android phone. Does anyone knows something like that? I know, there is Cheap Cast but that program isn't available in google play shop and I'm not sure if it is safe.

CheapCast is no more available in Google Play but it is available here on XDA, the fact is i don't know if it still works since some users reported that it doesn't anymore, you gotta try it by yourself and, if you can, report back to its thread to help others.
I have an older Motorola Electrify M (XT901) with all the USCC stock firmware (still locked bootloader without root). It has JB Android 4.1 and a 1080p HDMI Port.
With that stated, will this this phone be able to be Chromecast repurposed?
Just wondering as to any restrictions to this.
I never bothered to try and unlock/root it since it was stored for quite some time when I upgraded to Samsung.
It still works like a charm!
Thanks!
My Atrix hd now has become android TV with kodi installed and connected to the TV by the micro hdmi port. Kodi has a remote app called kore which you can install on other phone and control it from there.
Has any one found a way to convert an old Android phone with HDMI output to become a Chromecast receiver?
I just want to press the Chromecast button of my PC browser and watch the videos on the TV. I do not want any menus nor apps on the TV/phone. I just need the phone to become a "dongle".
@DrGreenway, I also have an older Motorola Electrify that's still a quality device with an HDMI port.
It was upgraded years ago to a newer device and hasn't been in service for quite some time. It still works like a charm.
So I'd like to re-purpose this device for Chromecast...
Can it be done on this specific device?
Thanks a Bunch!
Peace and Love!
