Hi all,
Just wondering if there is a Kies Air or similar application for the Galaxy Tab 10.1 so I can tranfer files without needing to plug in the tablet? I couldn't see Kies Air in Samsung apps.

What are you trying to transfer?
I've been using SugarSync to move files around without connecting...
Some folks have also had success with Dropbox.

I don't know what OS you are using, but if you have a Windows network setup, find a file manager for android that supports SMB. ES file manager works, I think Astro has an add-on, but the best that I've found is File Manager HD, it is built for tablets. I can connect to any shared folder on my network and browse/transfer away .

Look for "WebSharing" in the market.
If you rooted your tab, Samba Filesharing works great. It's free from the market: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.funkyfresh.samba

I really like so many things about this Tab but it seems I keep runing into road blocks.
All I want to do is to copy my music from iTunes to the Tab and get the pictures and videos I have taken on the Tab to my Windows notebook since the Mac is not supported. Here was my last bit of the chat from Samsung Support.
Jeff: ok, and to be sure I understand Kies does NOT support the Tab 10.1 at this time?
Gary C: Yes, as of now the Kies software is not supported for Galazy 10.1 (Wi-Fi only) tab.
Anyone got any ideas?
DoubleTwist will take care of your needs.

If you want to transfer wirelessly with DoubleTwist, you will have to get the AirSync companion. It's in the market.
Yeah...I scoured the interwebs for Kies for mac. When I finally found it, I got the 'device not supported'.
I've been doing all my file transfers via ES File Explorer.
Has anyone been able to install a torrent app on a unrooted shield? If so which one because I have not had any luck sideloading any.
I used fluid to get a linux iso to recover my laptop so I could root. That should work fine.
utorrent works just fine!
A downloader. I just use the green "lite" version. http://android-a.com/

I use Ttorrent Pro and it works a charm. If you create a directory /Android/data/hu.tagsoft.ttorrent.lite or /Android/data/hu.tagsoft.ttorrent.pro on the usb hard drive (depending on your app version) you can select this directory as the save path in the app. I think the lite version also works.
hi guys
how to fix 'file too large ( write to disk)' error message in utorrent download?
im running on lolipop rom for my galaxy note.
tTorrent works fine and has remote control support (web and Transdroid).

Anyone try sideloading this on a Sony XBR55X850D tv?
I use Zetatorrent pro on a Nexus Player with an old USB 2.0 hard drive I had lying around(HDDs still hold up best to frequent writing) as adopted storage. I keep the Nexus Player in commission just for that and let the shield go to sleep when I am not using it. Besides that I only use it for storage eating Android games that don't require a lot of processing power. You might need a mouse to deal with some of the settings but any standard USB mouse will do. I use a wireless USB mouse for gaming on my Shield(despite NVidia's best efforts to make PC games controller friendly, some still just work better with a keyboard and mouse). A Bluetooth mouse will probably work too. Otherwise, I was able to control the client with the Nexus remote which is more simplistic than the Shield remote, but I seldom even did that. Just install transdrone on your phone and enable the web interface in zetatorrent. You can now browse and add torrents right from your phone and manage everything in an interface that's very friendly. Want even more? Zetatorrent can automatically copy the files to your NAS after the torrent is completed. I absolutely love that feature for this application
Out of curiosity I opened up KIES 3 on my PC and connected the S6 Edge+ via USB. I get an "unsupported device" dialog box come up. It says "The connected device is supported through SmartSwitch, which is faster and more convenient." hmm.. OK, great, thanks. But no mention on what this is or where to find it. So on the Samsung support pages for this model, there is no help. On the KIES support pages there is also no help. So a quick "SmartSwitch" Google search directs me to a Play Store app, which I installed. But this app is only for transferring data and apps from another phone or platform.
I understand how to transfer data and media using Windows Explorer but I am wondering, how will I see if my device is up to date and what happened to being able to update over USB instead of OTA?

Scroll down and they'll have all the available downloads (mobile app, mac/pc, and then a link for kies). It's much easier to use than Kies, at least on my macbook.

Thanks for that mate. This was missing on the Samsung UK website!
.
Kies is a great software. However, for a certain number of new galaxy phones, the app can't detect the device for some reasons. So if you have such a problem, then you can use Android Assistant instead, which is a great Samsung Kies alternative.
When i connect to laptop with USB debugging on, this is what pops up. Its says easy suite click to install? Its not even picking up the Shield at all. 2017 16 gb model and not even week old. This picture of what shows up,why is that on Shield? Any help please, thanks
Are you trying to put files on it? I guess if plugging it in doesn't work (which I've never personally tried) you can install plex server which mounts the shield as a file share on the network. Then just do windows key +R then type \\(shield box name) and it should show up as a network drive.

it give you more control of what you can use,and not use on your TV. Plus your list of apps to use grows by leaps and bounds
i make a lot of artwork for Kodi.TV and Emby Media Browser, and without rot some of the apps i use i could not other wise without it. So its a big help for me personally.

There are tutorials on YouTube about using Samsung DeX without the dock on Galaxy S8, even here on XDA there are some.

XDA: Click here.
Even Galaxy S7 had it's shot on DeX on FloyedQ One UI 2.x ROM, provided by @ananjaser1211

I dont think you understand with what I meant.
I'm asking about Dex on PC (for Windows 7 & 10) or Mac.
So there is an app in Windows/Mac called Dex on PC that allowed us to project the Dex environment on our PC/Mac.
I'm not asking about Dex that project to monitor (either through HDMI or Wireless).

I believe he means the DeX feature mentioned here, but he wants it without the "Expensive DeX Dock" that is required for S8/S8+/N8 Series.
DeX itself was originally meant to use phone on bigger, desktop-like screens, then it extended to Windows and Mac, of which requires a Samsung DeX Software to be installed, and when you connect your phone with PC, a pop-up will show on the phone regards DeX.

DexOnPC is only available on Android 10 , i dont remember any pie phone with it
the S8 on stock only runs HDMI dex. if your phone is exynos, you can flash our rom which will give you Dex on pc and wireless dex https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/rom-10-hadesrom-q-v1-0-for-exynos-s8-s8-note8-26-12-2020.4208409/
tho do be noted, it is a V1, it has bunch of bugs, it might be better to wait for V2.0 to drop sometime soon i hope.
also do know that DoP is quite bad, it runs at 20 frames most of the time, rarely hits 30, and thats the case on the S8, S9 (i own the S9) and the S10. i dont even think they made it 60 FPS on the S20 and up models
DeX on HDMI is the way to go if you want a smooth experience
edit: i replied to the wrong guy
