You want get banned but theres 2 other threads right below yours. You can easily bump the cpu up to 1.4 unless your not into rooting your device. Im pretty sure this is something that would easily be upgradable through firmware or something.
But things like this happen to early adopters.

The article says it all, it is a RUMOR

i dont think that will be possible,,,as this upgrade will be a hardware one,,,samsung is doing this to compete with the incoming iphone 5..

When the phone came out in May without NFC the rumor of the day was that a newer version was due out in June with NFC. People held off buying, Samsung phone agents were quoted, and hundreds of posts were created. Do you see a NFC version of the SGS2 (outside of Korea)?
I'm sure the phone will evolve whether its a SGS2+ or SGS3, but Samsung would be nuts to short change their development and marketing investment in the SGS2 buy cutting its life short so quickly. Relax. Buy the phone.

What hardware change? There bumping the cpu from the sgs2 from 1.2 to 1.4. THere not using a completly different cpu. There basically overclocking the current cpu in sgs2. Intel and other manufactors have been re-releasing the same cpu with different clock speeds. Theres no difference.
And just like above poster said, its just a rumor. Cant believe everything you read, watch or hear.
Edit: If you read the article or kept up with sgs2 before released. It was originally launching with a 1ghz dual core cpu before samsung bumped the cpu up to 1.2. Im guessing after more testing, they believe the sgs2 can handle the 1.4 now.
Ive been running at 1.7 with tegrak overclock for the past week with no difference in battery and is very stable.

just wait for an uncertain device, then official press release, price release, date release, country release, carrier/store release !!!!!1!

Im stable at 1.6, this does not even make me blink

For usage, 1.2 and 1.4 is not much of a difference. The only time you will see the difference is when you are running benchmarks.

As said, just overclock it. Done. Don't think we even need to overclock it though, people are satisfied with underclocking it to 800mhz.

This is all more or less marketing. Like commercials, which are always telling you, that you really need this brand new stuff, otherwise you live in history.

Indeed, every game still runs smooth on 800mhz (except asphalt for some reason)
But battery life is much better, I have it running at 1ghz for now, but with conservative settings and undervolting on every stage. Enjoy your 2 days of heavy use

Everyones moaning and crying about the nexus one being outdated by newer phones such as the incredible and the evo but technically they're all outdated since the htc scorpion is going to be "whats hot". Its really annoying how some of these people are so concerned about being outdated. Appreciate what you have and make the best out of it.
I think
The nexus is still the top phone, which is why I ordered one yesterday even with all the new phones out, this is my reasoning.
Even with a1.5 processor, our nexus can be clocked to a stable 1.2 at least, and with that speed I font believe a phone actually Needs more because my nexus already flys.
That's just my input on this outdated deal.

If you always MUST live on the "Bleeding Edge" with the best of everything, you will run out of blood and run out of money.
The way I see it, living always on the newest hottest thing out there are for the people with more money than brains.
Yes, I have a Nexus One, I bought it BRAND NEW, but my total out of pocket expense was $140.00, because I sold or traded stuff I had, but stuff I could sell to get the money I needed to get this phone.
So it would not be worth it for me to try and get the next new hot thing out there because I love my N1 and would be hard pressed to see something pass this one up.
I have played with TONS of new android phones that are not out yet (MyTouch Slide, what a joke) and NONE of them are anything that even gave me a slight twinge of wanting to jump off the N1 scene.
these threads are lame... and obviously started by people who don't even own a nexus one.
TotaL BS News...
From a Nexus owner perspective the future is not about slightly better hardware, but about adding real value to the OS.
As far as my Nexus will be updated to any future Android releases I´ll have the better phone out there...others will always have to wait for Google´s compasion.

If that’s what turns you on then fair enough. I maintain the best reason to get a Nexus One (if you accept you eventually have to plump for some phone instead of holding out forever) is that if Google does something cool it’ll pretty much definitely come to us first. And more than likely before everyone else.
But that’s just me, I’m more of a software fan.

If you are referring to me and this thread, you’ve not read it properly. Please see above.
If you are referring to people I criticised in my original post, then I think they probably do own a Nexus One, and become incredibly defensive about it. The people that don’t own one tend to just post saying how they are not going to get one and then their reasons. You can tell because the whole post usually smacks of someone trying to convince themselves of something.
I thought the Scorpion was rumored to be a tablet anyway.
BigDamHero said:
And yes for everyone debating if the Incredible or the Evo mean the Nexus is outdated you can all relax.
Because they are out of date now too – search for HTC Scorpion.
.... which I expect to also be superseded around about tea time.
It’s a point that’s been made in other threads – but you CANNOT keep up with new tech (especially phones). You’ll end up financially ruined if you try. So we can all stop going on about it now and just enjoy our Nexus Ones?

I said almost the polar opposite.
Anyway the HTC Scorpion, IF all the rumours are true will have a faster processor (1.5Ghz). Just search the name for references (as I said in my original post). Given how people are positively suicidal over a slightly better camera on the Incredible, I imagine this will not go down well. Its only a few rumours at the moment.
What I’m basically saying is the N1 is amazing and in no way obsolete just because something newer is out. There ALWAYS will be. So lets not live and die over newer phones that are going to come anyway. Thread after thread of it. Lets just bask in the glory that is the N1. Again I say see my previous posts.
I’m not trying to troll, just posting my viewpoint. What’s disturbing is you are potentially the second person to accuse me of exactly what I am criticising.

This whole thread is dumb; even with the Scorpion coming out HTC is working something to make the scorpion obsolete. Being obsolete doesn't make our Nexus any less awesome than it is.

samsung is holding an event on the 16th to show off the media hub on the galaxy s phones and to show off some new models. I'd expect them to make an official announcement then since they've been rather quiet recently.

eh, the G2 isn't much of an upgrade over the slide so I'd say you made the right choice.
Well with verizon's version of the galaxy s out, i think there is nothing to hold a massive upgrade to all versions back.
given that the tab is going to be running froyo real soon, the galaxy s phones shouldn't be that far behind. in fact, i think they should get the update first, but hey, what do i know
is this the latest update we'll get? will we be getting 3.0?

Gingerbread would be great and a good pr move on the part of samsung. My expectation is low though simply because they will want people to buy new phones. Gingerbread will be an easy upgrade too because out would be vanilla with touchwiz and widgets being addons. The Tab has similar hardware and it may get it, making a custom ROM likely.

Last I checked, Samsung hasn't actually offered a phone to 100 carriers around the planet, including all 4 US national carriers.
As long as a single large American carrier demands the next version of Android, we ALL will get it.
I don't see the connection between froyo and the gps fix. If it was an android fix then we should have a fix already, I expect it is firmware based.

Just wondering how the GalaxyS community is going to react if 2.2 isn't 100% PERFECT.... :grabs popcorn:

anyone whining bout the gps fix needs to check out rooting and flashing eugenes vibrant 9 rom, ive made this comment like 15 times buuuuuut. i get a lock within 10meters in only 10 seconds with the gps on and the cell tower assist feature on. no nead to play around in Lbstestmode menus just turn on location settings in the menu open maps and find "my location"... and this is inside my apartment....
I cant wait for ALL the bonuses in 2.2 like flash and included wifi tethering but do we really need to make a million threads about it??? lol

any overclocking guides for the fascinate?

I'm not new to overclocking, but I AM new to Android, so when it comes to overclocking an Android phone, I'm as useless as the next guy.
I noticed people got the i9000 version as well as the Captivate version to overclock to 1.2Ghz, but I can't find anything on the Fascinate. One member mentioned in another thread they overclocked, but I don't see how.
So how do we overclock the Fascinate? If there's a guide out there, it should be a sticky here!
Need overclocked kernels to achieve that, and we don't have any as of yet.
Gotta wait for custom kernels to start rolling out, which will be soon

first off... we HAVE a 1GHZ capable scorpion processor (its just UNDERclocked at 800MHZ to save battery) and the fastest android phone available so yes, of f*cking course the G2 QUALIFIES for gingerbread (sorry I freaking hate that stupid rumor. it's nothing personal... it's just been asked around 10 million times). second... that is debatable whether 3.0 will be pushed to the G2 since tmobile has been screwing all their android phone customers with their lack off new OS version otas after 1.6 so.... who nows for sure. it seems like they didn't release 2.2 for the MTS so some of the owners would upgrade to the G2. and guess what? it worked... we will get a couple fix otas (one is being pushed out as we speak) but know one knows for sure what they will do. if can root the darn thing (hopefully the ota being sent will help in the efforts), we can just port it from the desire z or something similar if tmobile drops the ball on gingerbread. I wouldn't count on it... just my opinion

Guys its very simple. Lets consider the below statement (current situation):
A Desire with 1Ghz snapdragon that scores lower in benchmarks and slower than a 800mhz Desire Z.
If based on that "rumour spec", which do you think deserves Gingerbread more? The 'spec achieving' but slower 1Ghz Desire or the 'below spec' but faster 800mhz Desire Z?
PROCESSOR NUMBER IS NOT AN INDICATION OF ACTUAL PERFORMANCE drill that into your head and stop thinking that the Desire Z will not get Gingerbread.

we need to remove the add new topic from the tapatalk app as it makes search harder and new thread easier. these rumors have been debunked, and notice that the G2 out peforms EVERY other phone out there even with the "slower" CPU, the underclock is a software lock so we could get it kicked up a notch when 3.0 is released(which from recent rumors 3.0 is actually honeycomb). if you don't think the phone will get updates then please return your phone and get a nexus.

I wish I could express how sad this thread makes me, if I remember this is supposed to be a site for development. If there's anything to discuss here it's that you might see 300-400 megs of RAM more than your current and LTE will chew through that measly battery. If you always pre-order the latest greatest you'll be a man with very little money and not much to show for it. 200 dollars for an LTE radio which will destroy battery life and a few hundred megs of RAM. As one guy said the Note would at least be a different phone and probably a better investment, either that or keep your current GS3 and get an LTE capable tab. Every single experience I've had with LTE on my phone leads to general dissatisfaction due to it dying half way through the day. Anyway pointless thread, stop blowing money on pointless stuff enjoy what you have.
*steps off soapbox*
Best wishes

Why would he want to choose the Note 2? If I could choose again I would stick with the S3. Your preference is not everyone else's.

I've a year or so left on my contract anyway and my current provider "3" doesn't offer an LTE service at the moment anyway, so I'll just wait and see how the LTE market matures here in the UK.
At the moment I have unlimited data including tethering and that suits me just fine.. "3" are just rolling out the latest version of HSPA+ with support for theoretical speeds of 42Mbps so Im hoping that will give me most of a good balance of speed and battery life.

Please, step down from that high horse of yours. The general section is for stuff that isn't really development related, and if this discussion cannot be held here, it would have been locked by now. You want development related activities, relocate yourself to the development forums on this very site.
Just because you have had a bad experience with LTE devices, doesn't mean OP will. Yes, it consumes more battery and RAM than a non-LTE capable phone, but there are people who don't mind. Personally, I won't buy an LTE phone, because 3G suits me more than enough, but that's me.
If this thread makes you sad, why did you feel the need to drop a useless comment showing it? You would have saved approximately 10-20 seconds (give or take) by not posting that comment.

not really useless considering the fact, despite I don't really like the idea of this thread I still answered OPs question. Xda-Developers isn't about developing anymore?(I need to section myself off to a specific "development thread" instead of discussing general things about the phone) there will always be something better than what you have making a thread to point out you're not satisfied is fairly pointless. Arguing with someone who tells me to get off my high horse is another. General forum is general discussion about the gt-i9300 Samsung Galaxy S III not about what you're going to buy next week or what else is better. enjoy your damn device.
P.S. If you want to have a circle jerk about new devices and pushing people off their "high horses" reddit is always an option. :fingers-crossed:

Well, he did talk about the S3, just not the specific "i9300". No forums exist yet for the i9305 LTE-specific version, so this'll have to do until such forum exists.

I never did like Reddit to begin with.

Development is strict development only, but just because it says general doesn't give anyone the right to flood it with topics that don't even have a relation to your device. Saying you don't like Samsung because they made a different variant of the phone or perhaps "better" is silly anyway.
If you ask me, the OP didn't seem unsatisfied.
"F U Samsung" seems pretty satisfied mate.
You had it coming. You act like what you say was important, when it was unnecessary.
You act like you had to reply to me in the first place, the only reason to respond to me was to start an argument, which is fine. but let's continue this in PM and stop flooding the thread.

Then make a general thread about the device, don't whine about how you wish you could exchange yours for another.
I enjoy my device. There's nothing damned about it.
"damn" is used as a superlative, not literally damning it.

I don't mean to seem like the bad guy here, but the constant flood of threads about "I don't have enough RAM, I exchanged my phone for X device, the camera sucks" just gets old. If you wish to continue this I'm more than happy to in PM.

Yes there is a fair few but most of them are not against the rules and therefore you have no right telling someone what they can and can't post, that's up to the mods.
If you don't like those posts then don't post on them because they will eventually go a few pages in front, you posting in them is just bumping them back to the top.

Well said thank you... The S3 is the best phone around and with that extra edge it will make it perfect for me. And a little more future proof. And My network doesnt provide LTE at this moment but are looking to in future so it wil be good to have the option atleast and extra 1GB
