Windows Vista Contacts with the Transformer. - Eee Pad Transformer General

I have read all the posts and downloaded the Power Suite on my computer (or what ever it is called) I have tried various recommendations made on this board and others, but can not find a way to sync
I have even put Contacts in Drop Box, but it is unreadable in Drop Box from the Transformer, as you need to click on the names to open it, and I only get an error message when I do this.
Is there any other application out there that someone has tried and works with Windows Contacts (not Outlook) Much appreciated.

If you can export them as a vCard file, then move it to the tablet (Not sure where, I would try both the MicroSD and internal memory), you should be able to import them from within the contacts app under Options-> Import/Export

Export contacts to Google Contacts. Then sync contacts on TF with Google contacts. Remember Google and Microsoft are competitors, they don't want to make it easy to switch.

Active sync - multiple contacts subfolders

Hi all,
I've tried a search for a solution, but couldn't find it immediately:
I've a lot of contacts divided over subfolders in my Outlook. Apparently activesync does not work with subfolders: huh!?
Is there a new version I can download?
I really need the different maps, I can't work with categories
Regards
Koen
I don't think this is possible. I had the same problem as you.
What I did is to organize my contacts "by category" so instead of using sub folders assigning each contact to a specific category in Outlook. You can then view them in Outlook "by category" and filter in Windows Mobile by category.
I agree that this is a serious problem. With some of my contacts I've gone into Outlook (that I sync with) and placed a zz_ at the front of the "File As:" entry.
Then at least all of these contacts will be at the bottom of my list.
The other thing I've done is created an excel spread sheet (or even an html file) with a list of contacts that I don't want on my main list and copied that file to my phone. Sometimes I open that to find names and then copy and paste it into my phonebook.
Welcome to Activesync! This goes right back to the first Pocket PCs, Microsoft have shown no iterest in adding this functionality.
The only way you can do this is by using different sync software, which maps folders in outlook to categories on your phone. Works well for me.

Hi All
Yes I know this answer is a little late... But it might help others
If you want to Sync MS Outlook's Contact Sub Folders you need - Chapura PocketMirror Professional
I've used it for many years and excellent bit of kit (only used with office 2003)
Just checked online and they have gone 'bust' but I still have the software & in daily use - PM me if req'd

Any Easy Way to delete all my phone contacts?

I have been having some fun and games with phone contacts as some of you might have seen.
Another thing I did wrong was to import these sim contacts onto the phone [no need I am guessing] so I see them twice.
What I want to do i do a .pst export from my pc with the mobile numbers to my laptop whose outlook currently has no contacts and I can then import them all correctly orientated that way to my phone.
I would like to delete all the current phone contacts to be able to do this.
Anyway easy way please? (I did a quick seach with no joy!)
Thanks
if I understand you, you are trying to clear the phone completely of contacts, but can't be bothered to tick one at a time?
the key herr is that the sim contacts manager has a select all option, people tab menu doesn't.
try this
people all people menu sim manager menu select all menu delete.
that should be the sim empty(if it wasn't already)
now, if you go menu delete contacts, it will populate the empty screen with your phones contacts and let you then do menu select all delete.
phone should now be empty of contacts.
to be fair [bothered to tick one at a time] there are over 180!
Thanks, I will try that.
I can always copy the contacts back to the sim from my other phone.
sync with outlook delete them all from outlook sync again viola (u need to have set that PC is master for data)
Thanks for that.
I managed to solve a couple of problems in one go:
my contacts in outlook on the laptop is not populated so I imported the mobile numbers from desktop outlook to laptop contacts.
Then deleted sim and phone contacts then synched with laptop outlook and now Contacts are nicely arranged first name, last name.
Belts and braces - I copied all contacts to sim and then hid sim contacts
Thanks guys
just a thought but if you have them in the phone and outlook which I assume you are going to keep synced.. why copy to sim when that WON'T be synced and you run the risk of corrupting your good lis
t in the future?
the rationale when I did it was in case I need to send the phone back etc etc but I take your point that I would have the backup on the laptop.
Just another layer of backup which I hopefully will not have to use?
heh yea.just don't forget they're there and accidentally merge them go the future...back to square one. lol
There is an app around that will clear the contacts on a windows mobile device.
If you search 'clear contacts in windows mobile' in google you should find it. Not sure if it's Mobile 6.5 ready.

How to import contacts and/or messages from my N97 to my Nexus One??

Hi Guys,
I'm new to xda-dev and I'll get my nexus one tomorrow or on monday (DHL screwed up delivery yet again here in London).
The first most important thing for me is to import my 500+ contacts from my Nokia N97 to the nexus and I have no clue how to do this since it's a different OS.
Can someone please guide me in details asap??
I heard about the using mail for exchange sync (steps needed) and this thing called "sprite migrate" (google it as I'm barred from posting links for now) which has free apps for Nokia (symbian) n Nexus (android) to do it.
Has anyone ever used any of these?? Also I have my Nokia contacts etc. backed up on the latest version of Ovi suite if that can be used as well.
Thanks a lot and please reply.
PS: I did a search and did not find a relevant thread answering this so please make this exhaustive.
I'd focus on getting your n97 contacts into Outlook Express/Windows mail/Etc first. Most contact formats can be imported into Gmail (and thus automatically synced to your N1)
But the n97->something on windows step is pretty nokia specific so I can't help you there.
I did the same thing for my gf and her N85. First, go into your Nokia's settings and copy all contacts to your SIM card. Then when you put your SIM card into your N1, you can import all the contacts off the SIM. Voila.
Thanks guys, my phone just arrived n i'll try the simple sim copy first (how do we forget such basic things!)...if not then the sprite migrate app sounds totally brilliant after reading the manual...copies bookmarks, texts, music, pics etc too!!
i had over 600 contacts and couldnt copy it to SIM. Instead i installed mail exchange on my n97 and synced with google contacts. Then it automatically synced with my Nexus one. Good luck.
Download the nokia pc suite. Install. It will read your contacts when you connect the nokia to the pc. From the suite export as csv file.
Go to gmail, create a dummy entry with the fileds you will need. Export from gmail contacts as csv.
Then open nokia csv file in excel and also gmail csv in excel.
Copy paste nokia csv contacts to the right columns in the gmail csv file.
when done, save gmail csv file and import back to gmail. Then synch contacts form the nexus. They will magically appear on the phone.
My contacts where 548. Everything worked smooth.
If something appears wrong, then check again/correct gmailcsv file on the pc and to the same procedure again. delete contacts from gmail beforehand.
You could install MailForExchange and sync your contacts directly to Google, as per here: http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=147951
I used that to migrate from N95 to N1
Thing you're SOL with the messages though, I'm afraid.

You shouldn't need to create a dummy entry. I managed to get contacts off a nokia 5800, by simply exporting the csv from pc suite and uploading it direct through gmail.
hey i am using ovi suite with my nokia phone and i have all my contacts synced there and i tried syncing them with outlook then exporting csv and importing it into gmail. but there are some faults with this. some fields are not created in outlook (like nickname) and when i have more than one number assigned to a contact sometimes the second number or the third is not added to outlook. how can i exactly export my contacts as they are on my ovi suite ?
Screw OVI. Like I said above, use MailForExchange.
Ok, a lot of people immediately advocate Google Sync. Here's the problem and it's a KNOWN ISSUE with S60. Google Sync using MfE will NOT copy the different phone #s of the same contact. This was a problem for me. Sure only like 10-20 contacts of mine had multiple #s listed under their name, but I didn't want to go through line by line and fix it.
So you can:
1) Use Outlook to deal with it which should do it flawlessly
2) Use SIM (but I highly recommend you to look elsewhere and not use this)
3) I settled and instead of bothering with Outlook and installing PC Suite and crap, I decided to use Mac OSX. I have heard friends telling me how they plug in random dumbphones into their Mac and it does it all. Yeah. It did. My N82 synced FLAWLESSLY with iSync which comes built in. This is the one time I'm going to act like a retarded Mac user and scream "OMG my mac does everything." Somehow it just handles pulling contacts off FLAWLESSLY. It got the multiple #s for my contacts. I synced it onto my Moto Milestone without any trouble. Yay!
As for your SMS and maybe other info, try this:
http://www.spritesoftware.com/ - Look for Sprite Migrate software. It's free.
I tried it on my N82 but it failed. I submitted an error log, and it seems someone else had some issues with FP1 devices, and the manufacturer is aware. However you're on S60v5 so you might have better luck. People don't care about FP1 devices anymore so I think I'm SOL. Give it a try. Trust me I've looked into this issue a lot and I've crossposted on 20 forums about this (ok more like 2-3).
GoogleSync via MfE does copy all numbers for each contact, lots of mine have multiple numbers and all made it to GoogleContacts.
Not only that, it also copied the contacts pictures, their birthdays, etc.
SPRITE MIGRATE sounds ace!

http://www.spritesoftware.com/products/migrate/how-does-it-work-
I just did the simple copy to sim and then to N1 method and then sorted duplicates out on google contacts site.
But I read about "sprite migrate" which is free and seems to transfer all messages/contacts nicely. Apps available on ovi store and android market to get u going as their instructions state. Let us know.
Easiest way ever
It's pretty simple:
1) get rid of Nokia Ovi Suite
2) Go to Nokia website and downloads Nokia Pc Suite ( i got version 7.1.51)
3) Follow on screen intructions for app install & phone connection
4) With the phone connected, click on the "contacts" icon (blue phone book). It will open Nokia Communicator, and a list with all your contacs
5) Select all of them( click on the first one, then go for CTRL + A)
6) Go to: File > Export
7) Choose a file name and location.
8) Go into: Gmail > Contacts > More actions > Import
9) Pick the csv file you just created, and have a nice and easy import
Congratulations on

Outlook sync help :(

Hi,
i have previously had this problem aswell.
recently i purchased hd2 tmobile USA version.
and i had alot of contacts on outlook, so i synced it with hd2.
after that i started making changes to my contacts on the phone like adding facebook tags etc.
then when i resynced most of the contacts got deleted.
now the only setting i see in windows media device center is
"replace items on device" or "replace items on desktop"
what i want to do is sync both ways meaning add contacts from outlook to hd2 then if i make changes or add facebook tags on hd2, then resync i want the information to get updated on outlook (pc) aswell but instead what happens is outlook recognized info that doesnt match and deletes it on the phone and all data gets lost.
please let me know is it possible.
thanks for helping out.
it should already sync both ways (it does on mine anyway, and always has on all phones with activesync)
the part about "replace items on device" or "replace items on desktop" should only come into play when there is a conflict (eg you edit a contact on your phone, edit the same contact differently on your pc), only then 'should' the 'replace items on..' kick in and decide.
I suggest you clear your sync partnership and start over, making sure you have the latest wmdc installed.

i think youre right. what i did was added some contacts frm pc to phone and some i had on my phone. also some contacts i had added from pc to phone that i updated on my phone like facebook etc so when i synced everyrhing got messed up.
i also hve another question. i have two .pst files with contacts on them. is there any way i can put a few contacts from one file to another?
thanks alot.
ya you can. in outlook go file - import - import from personal file.(I forget the exact wording, I'm afk atm.) then browse to the pst.
file -> manage datafiles -> add, select your pst, it will be loaded and appear as a separate folder, then you can copy whatever you want between them.

Backing up online?

Hi there,
Does Android offer something like Microsoft MyPhone where you can backup and manage contacts and calendar events? I've seen several independent software companies making something like this but I'm not crazy about leaving my contacts on some unknown server. I'd be more comfortable with Google or Android or even if I could continue using MyPhone. Maybe there's something like PIMBackup that will hold everything ina compressed file on my SD card?
Any help would be great guys. Thanks!
Based on your sync preferences you can manage your contacts and calendar being backed up.
You can backup your contacts onto your sd card (press menu ad select import/export and choose export to SD card) and for the calendar you can use your gmail calendar so that you can view it both on phone and computer via internet, just make sure your sync settings are set to sync the calendar
