I'm trying to restore my htc tattoo to original state (for warranty return), currently its running Cyanogenmod with clockwork recovery. I restored original Android 1.6 from backup I made, but I'm having trouble finding information how to restore original recovery. I suppose the procedure is similar as to installing clockwork (I'm currently using clockwork) but with original recovery image instead of clockwork. I'm not sure where can I find original HTC Tattoo Recovery image?

Ok sorry for posting in wrong forum. I Flashed the supplied recovery image but now the only thing I get when trying to boot into recovery is the warning sign with yellow exclamation point and the phone lying next to it. Are all original recovery images the same? Maybe they vary like ROMs do.
Edit:
After some googling around it turns out that exclamation mark is actually the original recovery, sorry for false alarm and thanks. I'm still worried a bit about versions of recovery, can someone figureout that is not the recovery rom that was shipped with my HTC Tattoo? Thank you.

is it possible to switch to another custom recovery after I already got clockworks?
I tried unrevoked but its stuck in the reboot (I believe its trying to root my aria again)
not sure what youre trying to do.... i believe Clockwork is the only Recovery for rooted phones. if you want to flash a custom ROM, well that is something else altogether. please be specific as to what you want to flash to the phone. include a link to the flash too
I was trying to flash psfreedom recovery rom from here
http://psfreedom.com/wiki/HTC_Aria
I believe the method on that website was for unrooted arias without clockworks

To flash a different custom recovery on your Aria, you need to rename the zip file LIBEIMG.ZIP on the SD card and boot in HBOOT (Power on the phone by holding down VOL DOWN and the Power Button). When it boots to the HBOOT screen you should see text stating that it found LIBEIMG.ZIP and is installing it.
awesome. now before I go ahead, is there any clockworkx recovery image I can revert back to?

I'm curious, what recovery are you talking about?
thanks for including the link. the instructions are clear.... Root IS required, Clockwork recovery is recommended, the Freedom Aria flash appears to be a custom ROM.
once the phone is Rooted, boot into Recovery, make a Nandroid backup, and flash downloaded zip file from SD card.
if you need help Rooting, there is all sorts of good methods available on this site. I use the Unrevoked method myself, but it works best on Linux or Mac OS

hmm I think you are looking at the old method which is a custom rom
The new one is a custom recovery which brings me to the question as I dont think you can flash a custom recovery in the clockwork custom recovery.
its possible im looking at the wrong thing, but far as i can tell it states "Recovery Custom ROM" which is totally different from Custom Recovery ROM
From link posted above:
"Update can be installed in recovery mode in Psfreedom settings menu via Update (local) or Update (net) if you have configured your wifi connection. Put the file on your SDCARD and install it.
Download Recovery custom rom : http://alephzain.klutsh.com/aria-recovery.tgz "

I have similar questions. I was trying to update my version of clockwork also using unrevoked again, but couldn't get it to work. I guess my questions are:
1. Is there any benefit in updating to a newer version of clockwork? My current version is 2.0.x.x and I believe the latest one is 2.5.0.4.
2. Will this same method work to do so? Can I rename the latest clockwork .zip file like this and get it updated?
I thought using the flash clockwork option in ROM Manager would do it, but it doesn't. If I reboot from ROM Manager it goes to the newer version, but if I reboot otherwise it goes to my original. The couple times I've used it, there appears to be maybe some different features/options in the newer one and I feel like I might be missing out on something!
What's the difference with this recovery?

These are probably two different things. once you got the recovery rom flashed you can upgrade it in recovery mode (hence its different from original clockwork recovery)
Ok bro, I didn't see much info about it so I'm gonna take your word for it.
@brswattt, far as I can tell this is " basically" used for jailbreaking the ps3.
@armyengineer;
you can use unrEVOked to flash the new recovery. if youre a Windows user, download the unrEVOked tool and run the .exe as Administrator. also make sure there are no conflicting s/w on the PC such as HTC Sync and you have all the drivers installed(HBoot, ADB drivers, etc.)
for more info about the PSFreedom Recovery, check out THIS Thread HERE
unrevoked keeps giving me
couldnt find misc
error, is there any other way to flash a recovery?

This still isn't working for me. Everything appears to go well at the start, then I get:
Waiting for root...(safe to restart if this doesn't work)
At which point the only way I can restart is to pull my battery. After doing so, it reboots and I get:
This was a triumph
It is not, however, any such thing. After another minute I get this:
Internal error: couldn't find misc.
So I've still got my original version of clockwork, 2.0.1.3, despite the fact that ROM Manager is telling me I have 2.5.0.1. I'm obviously missing something here.
BTW, if it matters I'm running CM 6.1.0

Although there is a ClockworkMod 2.5.0.4 version, I don't think it is for the Aria. According to ClockworkMod ROM Manager, 2.5.0.1 is the most current one for the Aria so I am believing what ROM Manager is telling me since it is written by the same the vendor.
I have tried CM 6.1.0
original HTC Aria 2.1 International Rom
and FR001 RC1
all no go. I think it has something to do with the phone already been rooted and has clockworks installed which makes unrevoked unhappy

OK, let's start from the beginning. You asked about installing an alternate recovery (PSFreedom recovery), but apparently it has its own installation procedure that needs to be run on an unrooted Aria.
What you need is to find just the PSFreedom recovery and copy it to your SD called in a file called LIBEIMG.ZIP and that is how you need to install it on a root phone that has ClockworkMod. Perhaps you need to go back to the PSFreedom thread and ask if a LIBEIMG.ZIP can be produced that can be flashed from HBOOT to replace ClockworkMod.
Looks like everything you need is located in the PSFreedom wiki:
http://psfreedom.com/wiki/HTC_Aria
I got a recovery.bin which is suppose to be used with unrevoked.
are you talking about the same one if I just compress it into a zip file?

First of all you need to have fastboot enabled on your phone. This is a special boot mode that is disabled by LG. To get it you have to flash your phone with a fastboot-enabled rom. After that, camera+power will put your phone into fastboot and you will be able to flash recovery.
If you're somewhere in Europe, here's the current Europe Open ROM with fastboot:
http://www.mediafire.com/file/wld8b005fczc49a/Europe_Open_V20B_FASTBOOT.kdz
Okay thanks
And now the next stupid question :-/
On my HERO I flashed new ROMs using recovery
How do I flash a ROM on my LG ?
you can flash custom roms via fastboot or if the developer has made a recovery backup you can flash with that
After alot of googling, I found KDZ_FW_UPD
it got it to work
Im rooting my phone and I followed this guys method
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ypJ9qFkT-Jw&feature=related
I did everything it told me to and now i am wondering what i need to do next? like how to flash roms. Sorry for my stupidity and being a noob.
I looked at one of the threads to flash a clockwork and i installed rom manager.
I clicked reboot to recovery and it did but it had a black screen with a phone and a red trinalge on it.
Help please?
Are you sure you're completely rooted? Do you have S-Off?

first make sure your s-off. Pull the battery, hold the down volume button and the power button. Will be on the top line.
to get out of that recovery just pull the battery. To flash a custom recovery image just download ROM manager and select the top option. just downloading the Clockwork ROM Manager will not automatically install the recovery image.
As far as ROMs go there is a plethora of choices in the development section. Sense 3.0 or Cyanogen are my two favorites.
I'd also check out the "post your eMMC serial" number thread to make sure you have a good eMMC. a bad one can end up ugly.
thanks for the help. It does say s-off and i just flashed the clockwork recovery from rom manager app. When i do the adb shell for commands on the PC it doesnt give me the emmc serial #. it puts $ and when i put su it says permission denied. Do you know why?
Did you actually click permaroot in visionary

You need to do it from the recovery image. You need to have ADB up and working see my signature. Once
Code:
adb devices
picks up your phone, you need to return to the eMMC thread.
I did it from the recovery image and it still didnt work although adb devices put my device # on it
Hello. After updating my A500 to the official ICS rom, I easily rooted my tablet succesfully by downloading a program found on this website:
http://forum.tegraowners.com/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=350
Then, I downloaded an app from the market/play store called "Acer Recovery" wich lets you flash CWM recovery (which is built in into the app). The app said it flashed the recovery succesfully. Now, when I press the "boot into recovery" button I get stuck in the Acer logo and on the top left corner it sais in red: Recovery Failed
I would like to flash custom roms. What am I doing wrong?
Many thanks...

Which version of Bootloader are you running? The recovery installer app should tell you when you start it.
Also, which version of Recovery did you try to install?

Thanks for helping me out.
-Bootloader Version: 0.03.12-ICS
I tried installing the two only recoveries avaliable wich are:
-ClockworkMod Recovery rev1.3.4 by thor2002ro
-Stock USA 1.141.07_COM_GEN1 recovery
After flashing any of the two I click on "Reboot into recovery", it reboots but gets stuck in Acer logo and on the top left corner says:
-Recovery verified failed
I have the same problem too and I still couldn't find a way out
Firmware Specs are same as yours
I wonder if there is a simple way out
Anyone can help ?
Thanks

Ok, both of you need to go to this thread and read over the info.
The reason why your recovery "might have failed" is probably because you didn't delete a certain file from your rom before you flashed your CWM. That is... "recovery.from.boot.p" in the system folder.
If you don't, every time you reboot your will lose your CWM.
Anyhow, read this thread. Everything you need is there.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1622425
And if you;re going to install some ICS Customs in the future, I advise you install a patched unlocked bootloader.
EDIT: One more important thing. Before you folks go off flashing and everything, PLEASE... Get your UID number now, and write it down in a safe place (like the box your tablet came in . If you tab gets borked up, it's the only thing that'll save it.
MD
As MD stated be sure to read that thread , once down reading it, re-read it , I would try using that method first ,it helps you learn , but if you want to go to this thread and it will be a whole lot easier :http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1675939

I would advise making sure you have at least Version 3 or higher of the unlocked bootloader. Version 4 is better as you can change the boot image. Also, with version 4 (and higher) you can flash any future bootloaders through CWM.
Also, make a system (nand) recovery backup before you go flashing roms. This way you have something to go back to if the flash doesn't go right.
part of the original problem you had was the recovery you tried to flash was an earlier version which doesnt match ICS , You can get the beta copy of Acer Recovery ,but you'll have to search for it , it also has updated ICS recovery listed

sorry
it's green lense, i flash it over custom recovery. I really don't know which kernel there is, i didnĀ“t flash any new kernel, so i guess there is stock kernel. I can't get to the bootmenu, but i have acces to stock recovery.
EDIT: I realized, that there was flashed MIUI rom downloaded from official site (before trying update to ICS). I don't know which kernel this rom uses, so maybe there was gingerbread kernel. Before root and everithing, official Motorola's rom was froyo.
EDIT2:
I think that problem is here:
Nandroid Backup
This is just a .zip file flasheable with a Custom Recovery, this will Delete/Copy all the files in the /System and other partitions (depending on the Nandroid) without formatting or remaking the partition thus not modifying the system layout, eFuse or stuff; this is almost harmless, meaning you CANT brick your phone doing it, though you can make Android not boot and a new SBF or Nandroid would need to be installed.

question is how and which SBF should i install
As far as I saw, this is a Froyo based build, so you should be fine with the Froyo kernel you have from your stock ROM...
Go to custom recovery and wipe data/cache. If you are still unable to boot afterwards, you might need to flash a fixed or a full sbf.
Hahaha never flash someone else's phone, especially parents!! Because when this happens you are SCREWED
Above info is indeed correct, I have bricked mine to a similar state by using a badly coded app, I just flashed a full froyo 2.2.2 sbf as my custom recovery was broken, reinstalled recovery with the 2ndinit app and restored my backup, never had a problem since
