First of all you need to have fastboot enabled on your phone. This is a special boot mode that is disabled by LG. To get it you have to flash your phone with a fastboot-enabled rom. After that, camera+power will put your phone into fastboot and you will be able to flash recovery.
If you're somewhere in Europe, here's the current Europe Open ROM with fastboot:
http://www.mediafire.com/file/wld8b005fczc49a/Europe_Open_V20B_FASTBOOT.kdz
Okay thanks
And now the next stupid question :-/
On my HERO I flashed new ROMs using recovery
How do I flash a ROM on my LG ?
you can flash custom roms via fastboot or if the developer has made a recovery backup you can flash with that
After alot of googling, I found KDZ_FW_UPD
it got it to work

I'm trying to restore my htc tattoo to original state (for warranty return), currently its running Cyanogenmod with clockwork recovery. I restored original Android 1.6 from backup I made, but I'm having trouble finding information how to restore original recovery. I suppose the procedure is similar as to installing clockwork (I'm currently using clockwork) but with original recovery image instead of clockwork. I'm not sure where can I find original HTC Tattoo Recovery image?

Ok sorry for posting in wrong forum. I Flashed the supplied recovery image but now the only thing I get when trying to boot into recovery is the warning sign with yellow exclamation point and the phone lying next to it. Are all original recovery images the same? Maybe they vary like ROMs do.
Edit:
After some googling around it turns out that exclamation mark is actually the original recovery, sorry for false alarm and thanks. I'm still worried a bit about versions of recovery, can someone figureout that is not the recovery rom that was shipped with my HTC Tattoo? Thank you.

well i did something and it worked for me but i am not 100% sure it will work for you.
i used http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=950759 script but i replaced the recovery file with the file that haree sent to you.
hope this helps you
Didn't see this in General so thought it would be worth adding, especially since there have been many threads lately with new users wanting to root their phone and then getting scared of the guides.
Now there is also the option to go the official way to unlock the bootloader.
http://htcdev.com/bootloader/
noob here with a question... rooting is the same as unlocked bootloader??

Not quite. It can probably explained more accurately but the gist of it is this:
An unlocked bootloader is what allows you to flash custom roms to your phone.
Root access simply grants you the rights to mess with your phones rom whichever way you want.

I thinks that's pretty much it, once you have unlocked your bootloader you'll be able to flash any custom rom you like. Though it'll probably a bit tricky on the first go since you don't have a custom recovery yet, so I believe you'd have to flash some pc10img.
Still it's commonly to believed to be the better choice to stick with the more exhausting solutions posted around here, since HTC will register your phone if you use their tool. At least for the time being they claim that by using their way, your warranty will be void.
I've unlocked my desire z through the htcdev.com website.
Bootloader is unlocked, S-on..
But I can't get a rom installed, it gave me an error while trying to update from the recovery mode (apply update zip) using a stock rom with root.
Akward..
So now I've unlocked my bootloader, but still can't change my rom..
Anyone know how to do it after you've unlocked the bootloader?
flash custom recovery first, from there flash the rom
if you're s-on, bootloader is still locked....

I'm working on it
Gaining temp root using this guide worked.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178912
But when I press start clockwordmod, it says that my phone is not rooted..
While I press "flashcockwork" clockword mod recovery, I get an error.
än error occurred while attempting to run privileged commands!
I'm doing something wrong..
pretty annoying
I get unlock my bootloader today, and YES there is S-ON, but on the top is written in hboot menu big letters UNLOCKED (How you thinks, htcdev joke?).
I've installed clockworkmod using fastboot:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery clockwork_mod_for_vision.img
Then put off battery and turn on phone with volume down + power, I pressed 'recovery' menu option. Clockworkmod runs correctly. Then tried last stable CyanogenMod 7.1.0, flash was done without errors, I wiped out what's need (cache, data). Next I tried run phone, but freezes at splash (green htc letters on white background).
I tried also miui mod, but Ive got only MIUI splash screen nothing else.
Then I restored my htc from backup (done before flashing using clockworkmod) and Im still on the stock htc android 2.3.3.

Mariusz

1. boot to fastboot mode, flash a custom recovery (recommand ClockWorkMod), power down the phone.
2. put your downloaded update_cm7.xxx.zip into sdcard, boot phone into recovery
3. choose in the recovery, first "wipe data", then "install update from sdcard", choose the zip file you just put in.
4. choose "reboot system"
that's all to go.

Booting problem is mostly kernel related, do you have logcat output? (run "adb logcat" and boot the phone)
I encountered with the situation (w. another phone) that the recovery can't flush the boot partition during the recovery installation, I have to extract the boot.img file from the zip and flash it manually in the fastboot mode (fastboot flash boot boot.img)
EDIT:
That was a EVO3D with UNLOCKED HBOOT, I believe you're having the same situation, try my method or may others make out a better perfect solution ? (not my own phone, I just helped with its owner, no time to dig the details)

now I confirmed the UNBLOCKED HBOOT somehow blocks the CWM to flash boot.img
My Phone have a S-OFF HBOOT and i was considering flash it to the UNLOCK the last night, now it seems not worth the try ~

My friend has an officially unlocked Desire Z as well and I gave him these instructions to try it out, he has the same boot problem (stuck at splash screen). Maybe this information should either be stickied or added to a faq until there is a real solution to the problem (unlike this workaround), updated cwm or something like that.
Anyway thanks for sharing this information.
HTC bootloader unlock tool is quite restrictive. It still leaves you S-ON, so you won't be able to flash a new hboot or radios.
I recommend avoiding it and using the current well-proven methods from the XDA Wiki.
Sent from my Desire Z running CM7.
Its working now...
Steps I followed:
1. flash recovery using fastboot
2. Do a nandroid backup using recovery
3. flash boot.img using fastboot
4. reboot into recovery
5. wipe data/cache
5. install update for CM7, and gapps
Also make sure before doing any of these steps you have copied CM7 and gapps update onto sdcard.
Thanks everyone for helping out.
I am experimenting with this myself and I don't seem to be having the same issues flashing a boot.img from an update.zip in ClockworkMod recovery with the official HTC unlocked bootloader that others are having. Maybe it is the version of the recovery that is the issue? Which version is everyone trying to use? I am using the 3.xxxx version that is linked from the wiki. I have had other problems with the 5.xxx version and tend to stick with the older version for that reason anyways.
Hi there
So, I can't enter recovery when I go into the bootloader to do so. I click 'recovery' and it just shows the black start up screen with the google logo. And nothing else happens. Ever. I reflashed recovery, and was able to get into recovery to install a new rom. However, after that one time, I was once again, unable to enter recovery. Now I haven't the time to be reflashing recovery just to get into it every time I want to, so I looked for a solution.
I did some reading around and apparently it's the bootloader version I'm using. (According to post five in this thread, and my assumption that I'm having a similar problem to this thread's OP.
Now if that is the solution to my problem as well, I need a bit of help. I can't find a file for the old bootloader, nor do I have any idea how to flash an old bootloader. (And please know, I wouldn't be asking had a google search not come up fruitless).
EDIT: Would flashing a completely stock 4.4.2 image update my bootloader? I wouldn't mind doing that, rooting that, and then just installing purity rom or something.

Hi Mate ,
I been looking for the same but for other reasons , to flash it is not too difficult for what i see in this thread tell how to do it manually:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2150251
or
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2417097
in the first one they even have a zip version of it which should install like any other zip from recovery
Also you can use a tool kit like NRT which makes life a lot easier once you got the bootloader image...(advance utilities)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1766475
My problem is that i do not know where can i get the different bootloader images...
To your question i think so , bootloader should be included in the factory image......downloading one to confirm.
also check this information

If you download the factory image, extract it, the bootloader is in the folder. Then just flash through fastboot. Just make sure you download the correct bootloader for your device
For anyone reading this thread, my solution was too move to the 4.32 bootloader from JWR66V. I flashed the .img file from this thread using Wugfresh's fantastic toolkit. (linked to in the 2nd post of this thread).

I would recommend learning how to use adb and fastboot. Toolkits do not always work as expected and you will then need to use fastboot to fix it
Hey guys,
I wanted to flash a custom rom, so the first thing I did was rooting the phone, it worked. the second thing I had to do was flash a custom recovery ( twrp with autorec ), after installing it and flashing the recovery, the app says that ok and it was time to reboot , i clicked OK and all i got was white lines, i dont know what to do, i cant enter download mode nor recovery so i cant flash anything, I looked for solutions and I found out that i have to flash things like stock firmware but how am i supposed to do it when i cant even enter download mode nor recovery.
I found a solution that didnt require entering to recovery or download mode(which i wasnt able to do) but it needs the img files that correspond to the ROM i have installed before getting the problem and i don't know where to find them : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2582142

I think you may need to short the testpoint on the motherboard of the phone yourself to see the partition . I am very sorry but that might be the only choice for you. I bricked my G2 once, but I couldnt do anything at that time and bring it to local repair centre and I just ask them to unbrick only just for the phone to boot to get to download mode and flash the kdz myself, much more cheaper.
I had installed cm 13 and tried installing a new kernel but i guess since i was on a old version it didn't work out. So i proceeded with putting the old kernel back *sandy kernel* however now when the phone opens up i put my pass code it shows the background for a split second with a system ui crashed error and back to lock screen. hence i tried installing a recovery again (twrp hybrid) since the latest roms use that and I wanted a new rom anyway. But i thought id back my stuff up but alas the system ui error doesn't allow me to do so. Finally i ended up by using fastboot to flash the new recovery but even after it said OK ! my phone won't boot into recovery.
So now i am stuck with a OP2 that boots into cm13 but cant get past the lockscreen, a recovery that won't load and a fastboot mode that is the only working thing.
God I really shouldve backed it up i know. But is there a way I can resolve this without losing my data?
I have an exam and the notes are in them.
Help is appreciated !

As I said. the method i showed you is most certainly the solution. But you need a Computer and yes, 1gb is propably too much for mobile data
Maybe, just maybe if you flash OOS-Firmware it might help. But i dont know for sure.
So i finally managed to get into twrp 2.8.7 (lollipop)by this http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=16684
thanks a lot for all your hard work guys ! (cant boot into os still but twrp will help atleast)
