Note: I didn't create this, I "just" repacked, converted, scaled and corrected the settings. You can check the original author's thread here.
I repacked two versions of the boot animation.
The first one is a direct resize of the orginal. It is in fullscreen, but as a result of the resizement it will be a bit unscaled. Nothing major, but noticeable nonetheless.
The second one is a scaled resizement of the original. It is also in fullscreen, but completely scaled with the right proportions and framed.
I personally use and recommend this version as it is more beautiful, proportional and the visual experience isn't affected at all.
But anyway, they both work so it's up to you.

Version 2 <-- You will probably want this version.
Version 1
How to install:
1. Rename the downloaded .zip ("ava_vx_bootanimation") to "bootanimation" (without the quotes).
1. Transfer it to the SD card.
2. Using a root explorer copy that file to "/data/local/" (set R/W permissions).
3. Reboot and enjoy!
How to unninstall:
1. Simply delete the file and the boot animation will revert to the original one.
2. Reboot and enjoy!
It is almost impossible to mess up with this but anyway, I am not responsible for whatever you do while using (or not) the instructions and files provided in this thread.
Press the thanks button if you liked! (And think that Android rulez!)

Sometimes I feel sorry for those brainwashed elitists... They can be so self-centered and narrow-minded that actually forget about how things should be. They like to think that the products they own are unique and exclusive but deep inside they know millions also own them. That must get them frustrated. They keep only showing the world the basic principle of unfounded segregation. Anyway, in the end its their loss.
BTW, I updated the links in the first post.
Great work, thanks for sharing!

Nice find. Now lets see how we make it work!
EDIT: Looks like Fightspit has done a lot to make this ready for those willing to adopt it. The process for making this work on the Captivate appears to be up to our community.

This would be much better than having to take up home screen space with a widget that shows percentage. Plus, the stock indicator for the Captivate always shows way more battery level than is actually available.
I would glady donate to anyone that gets this working on the Captivate.

What do you guys think?
This is just to make sure a modded framework-res.apk would work, I just replaced the few battery images it uses. I will have to compile the xml file to do all of the percents.

You rock...This is perfect...Should have been that way from the factory...Looking forward to the release...
I tried to create the mod but even though the new battery indicator is working, I am getting non-stop FC's. These are the steps I tried:
1. Decompile stock framework-res.apk using apktool v1.3.1.
2. Replaced res\drawable\stat_sys_battery.xml and stat_sys_battery_charge.xml with the ones from Fightspit.
3. Copied all of the stat_sys_battery* to res\drawable-hdpi.
4. Recompiled using apktool.
5. Signed apk.
6. Copied to SD and then used Root Explorer to overwrite existing file.
7. Rebooted.
If someone gets this to work, I would be curious to know what steps were taken.
Hey guys, just an update, I will have this out in about 10-20min (i hope)

A big, "Thank you!" to the devs at Xda. I'm a wilderness rock climber/math guy. Always trying to trim that pack down, and been through a slew of laptops, UMPCs, and tablets. Too heavy. Too little battery life. Etc. Then along comes the Xoom.
Yeah!
All that was missing is the math/physics junk I need...and that's were the devs come in:
DOS:
A lot of great old programs will run in dosbox. It's fairly fast. But really, really old.
Mathcad:

Maple:
1500 places of Pi in 6 seconds. Not bad at all.
Windows:
Totally sucks. Slow. Hard to add software to. Not even worth a screenshot. Try it--you'll hate it.
Ubuntu:
Big win. Supports lots of modern software. Relatively easy to add stuff to. Not as fast as DOS, but fast enough, considering what all it's doing...especially with overclocking (those devs again *grin*).
Desktop:
Maxima:
This thread:

helped lots. Change your root/init.sh file resolution to 1280x746 for a good fit. Update your busybox before installing.
Thanks again to all of you who made this possible!
Now, if someone would just port iOS..................................j/k.

DOS is pretty easy--just grab one of the dosbox apps (https://market.android.com/search?q=dosbox&so=1&c=apps), put an installed version of the program you want to run in /sdcard or /sdcard/external. Searching finds lots of DOS public domain software (http://www.dosgamesarchive.com/, for instance), and tons of information on using dosbox.
The second link in the original post is really all you need to get Ubuntu working. For now, the files are on a SD card for faster transfers, making it easier to use multiple images. Eventually, the best one will go in /sdcard to speed things up a bit.
What software are you wanting to run?
I'll be glad to help, because I sure do owe these forums a lot, and the best way to repay is by helping others.
Now, if some dev will come up with a way to multi-boot into Android/Windows/Linux/iOS....

I love Maple & Mathcad, and use them lots. Currently trying to get modern versions running on the Xoom. Maxima (http://www.google.com/search?btnG=G...=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&fp=6af0f014ae16db6c) is close to Maple, and SMath (http://en.smath.info/forum/default.aspx?g=posts&t=73) is similar to Mathcad. I'm looking forward to the SpaceTime (http://www.spacetime.us/) port to Android.
Confession: All that keeps me from being an entry in geekapedia is the fact that I climb rocks, and shoot a mean game of pool. Otherwise, I'm a total loser.
Awesome job, especially with the Ubuntu install! Be cool to have one of these configured with a pen-tester build a a la BackTrack. I'm sure it'll get there as HC develops more.
Thanks for showing what's possible!
Thanks for posting on this. My Ubuntu is running beautifully following your tips, and the threads you linked. I do wish there was an on screen keyboard. The only way I could find for text input was to "send" it which is a bit of a pain. As a fun little side note I'm running Ubuntu off my flash drive using an otg cable. I followed the same directions, just used my flash drive instead of SD.

Great work sir! Thanks very much!
Good work! Thank you.
The more content like this people produce the better for everyone.
for anyone that is interested I've found that with no art skill you can still make these if you rip videos from you tube into image frames and follow stunt doubles instructions to make the animation.zip. I know it's cheating but it's simple and easy and let's even a goof like me make his own animation.
These look super nice, but unfortunately I find them too laggy to use. It takes ages to render the animation the first time around.
So I'm going back to Honeybee for now, being under 1MB it's pretty smooth.

I admit that the first of render the boot animation is pretty laggy. However, it would not appear after the first time.
I made the boot animation is about 640*400. I have already lowered the resolution and I just want to keep the basic view.

It's just my opinion, and no, I doubt I could do any better, but that's why you won't see any art from me. I guess it's just the use of a common (and ugly) font like Times New Roman makes it look very unpolished. I like the use of color, but I personally find that boot screen to be quite ugly. I guess I shouldn't have been so rude in how I said it, so I apologize, but why threaten to not do any more just because of one person's remarks when you could instead use the criticism to improve your work. I guess I'm just spoiled by the work I've seen on other devices.

Repeat have you seen it running ?
doesn't change the font.
pacattack is back!!miss you bro(from htc evo)
...and exactly how does seeing it running change what I've said? Like cars10k said, it doesn't change the font, and in the end that's really what makes it look so amateurish. Also I can't install it as I'm not keen on voiding my warranty just yet only to get root. Perhaps an animated GIF would enlighten us, if you're so convinced that seeing it in motion will make any difference.
I guess just let me start over... nice boot animation, especially those wild colors, but you might want to think about changing the font to something more appealing than a font we've all been staring at for the last 22 years... it gives it a rather generic look.
There, that's a bit more constructive, and again, I apologize for being a douche... to me it honestly does look like how I described it originally, but I should have been more respectful in how I said that.
Thanks for your efforts Pacattack and thanks for taking the time to share it with everybody. Keep up the good work, your way, your style.
