I have today taken the plunge and downloaded Android for the HD Mini. First of all, thanks to anyone and everyone involved, it is wonderful to have Android on the HD Mini.
I initially had problems getting the HD Mini to connect to my WiFi router, even after following the advice of setting the IP address manually.
I was double checking my IP settings when I noticed that the MAC address of the 'Android' HD Mini is different to that of the 'WM6' HD Mini. As I have MAC address filtering enabled on my router, the connection was being rejected by the router as having a non acceptable MAC address. Adding the MAC address of the 'Android' HD Mini into the MAC filters of my router was all that was required.
Thought that this information might just help anyone else having WiFi connection problems.
this is a known issue see here http://code.google.com/p/photon-android/issues/detail?id=19
p.s. you shouldn't open a new thread...!

Thanks for pointing that out. Unfortunately, I followed the instructions here:

Q:Any other known bugs ?
A:Other known bugs here:

Which led me to here:

This in turn led me to here:
***
19 Defect Accepted Low ---- [email protected] Wifi fake MAC addr
***
And then I went here:
***
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. launch adb, type ifconfig eth0
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Wifi MAC address is static (11:22:33:44:55), it should be unique to each phone. This might cause issues when connecting to Wifi network.
Hint: need to make it dynamic in wifi NVS driver
***
Sadly I was too stupid to make the link between my problem (unable to connect to a WiFi router) and the problem detailed of 'Launch adb, type ifconfig eth0'.
The MAC address indicated is also missing the leading octet of '00:' (making the correct MAC address 00:11:22:33:44:55) which could easily confuse another simple soul like myself.
I spent well over 2hrs messing about with this and getting very frustrated. I thought I'd take the time to help others and save them the same aggravation. I do think my description better fitted my particular problem, and that I presented the solution in a clear and concise manner, to allow anyone suffering similar problems to not only locate the problem, but a suggested solution too. As there seemed not to be a thread with this problem/solution, I did indeed start a new one, I apologise if trying to help is not acceptable behaviour.

Thanks for your concern but as you could see we are aware of the MAC problem
and by the way..your thread title is confusing and kinda wrong WiFi Connection It Is Working, not the way it should though lol but that will be fixed.
List up to date of working and not working Android features you can find here http://htc-linux.org/wiki/index.php?title=PhotonStatus
I also apologise if my post upset you in any way,i was just guiding you to the source of your problem...

The point of my post was that while you might be aware of this problem, it wasn't found by a search of this forum. It was only located after following three external links. Once at that final link, was there any mention of needing to alter settings on a WiFi router with MAC address filtering switched on?
I don't feel this was obvious in any way and therefore still do not believe my post was futile.
Perhaps My post title could have been: 'WiFi Connection Not Working Correctly on Routers With MAC Address Filtering Due To The Android MAC Address Differing Between Android And WM6' ? But that didn't fit on the page.
People constantly criticise members for 'useless posts' and not using the search, I merely thought if I entered a post detailing the problems relating to MAC address filtering it would save other people from asking the same question again.
I wasted my time, please remove my posts and this thread.

relax, please understand that we have been discussing many times about wifi connection issues since almost begining of the year, so you can understand people may slightly lose their patience when they see this topic started by a newcomer on the forum
like you said, this case will be helpful for those who filters MAC on their routers.
if you have ideas to help porting, test or report issues feel free to post, just be sure it has not been discussed already
of course you are most welcome in the "mini" community of hd mini

I installed titchy on my Uni two days ago, and while at least the core parts seem to be working, I'm having some trouble. Seeing as there's no forum or anything comparable to speak of on the titchy site, and seeing as we have lots of knowledgeable people here, I think it might be a great idea to start a thread about titchy here. Also, it's probably a good idea to keep it seperate from the normal 'Linux on Uni' thread here.
Ok, here goes: When I run haret, titchy boots to the console login, where I login as 'root'. Next logical step for me, it would seem, is to get wlan connection up, so I can update and install some packages. So, I did:
modprobe htcuniversal-acx
modprobe acx
that seems to have worked, as I can now fiddle with the wlan0 interface, using iwconfig. However, I can't for the life of me, figure out how to associate with my wlan router. To make this extra simple, I've even turned off WEP, WPA and access control, and set up a undiscriminating dhcp server. I've tried
iwconfig wlan0 ap any
iwconfig wlan0 ap $my_wlan (the ssid of my wlan)
iwconfig wlan0 ap $my_wlan_routers_MAC
all without results. Any hints on this?
I've also tried to set up USB networking, and it also works to a degree, but not fully. I can ping my Uni from my desktop Linux machine, but not vice-versa (ping isn't installed), and the Uni apparently can't resolve any URLs (at least, it can't resolve those given as apt sources).
Any help, as always, greatly appreciated.

Heh, yes. I saw that. Did you take a look at it? It's 28 (!) pages of unstructured mess. totally unreadable.
Hi, did you get wifi working?
seems I've come to this too late, www.neilandtheresa.co.uk has stop supporting titchy as such, I downloaded titchy from sumnoum or what ever it is, got usb net working, updated everything, but haven't figured out wifi. been through above forum before, not really made much sense of wifi through there, now 43 pages.
and any ideas where to get xsever-titchy from?
thanks
Hi,
What is the registry setting (if any) to change the WM 6.5(.x) setting from WiFi channel 1 to any other channel. This is an important setting to get the HD2 WiFi Router to work also in an environment with heavy WiFi traffic around.
Sorry that my attempts to search for a solution has failed. Please feel free to flame me. But when this is done, please post llink to relevant thread, if any.
Regards,
artreides
*bump*
Hi,
I had a problem where no wireless device would pick up my HTC HD2's wireless router. In the end I changed the WiFi channel of my office router and all worked perfectly, so if someone has the answer to how to change the wireless channel on WM6.5 please post it
Maybe the channel gets assigned when you hard reset the phone as I had to change my WiFi router away from channel 11, so I assume the phone is on 11.
Cheers
surely its all done via the router not the phone, the router broadcasts on channel X and the device just accepts on that channel
Is there any solution to this issue? would love to know the answer.

@Richy99 & p107r0: can you read in English with understanding?
What about the router function embedded in HD2? artreides is asking about HD2 WiFi Router so please don't reply until you know how to change its channel settings or you've got something really valuable to say

my bad
....
No worries...
... but, going back to the subject: anybody knows how to change it? I don't believe it is locked down to the hardware so there has to be a way to change it software-wise... anybody?
WMwifiRouter has a setting for changing channel but the inbuilt router does not & I have not seen a reg value linked to it in my registry browsing ...
Hello everybody!
I'm sorry, that I post here, but as I'm pretty new, I'm not allowed to write anything in the developers forum. I successfully enabled wifi in android and the phone finds my wlan network. When I enter the wlan-key the phone first connects and also establishes the connection. Unfortunately after it has connected it tells me, that it's out of range an tries to reconnect. Thus I never have a stable network, although the signal strength is at maximum. Has anybody also encountered this problem? Any hints? Router is Fritz!Box 7113 and wlan is wpa2 secured.
Already thanks for your replies!
get a better router(Linksys)..this has NOTHING to do with Android WiFi!
I know that my router is not the best, but I have several devices which have access to the router (two notebooks, one pc, xbox 360, windows mobile on HD Mini) and there the connection has always been stable and reliable. I NEVER had any disconnects now in the last three years. Therefore I'd suggest it's a software problem. Also somebody else has posted in the developers thread for wifi on android, that he has the same problem.
Okay now, I solved the problem preliminary.
First I used Android 2.2, where the problem occured. Now I switched back to 2.1 and patched the files in order to enable wlan. In 2.1 I can establish a stable connection to my router. Strange! Maybe someone could also mention that in the developers thread to help people who also had that problem.

Hi,
Trying to use Samsung Galaxy Tab 4s and connecting them to a corporate network, I can connect the devices fine using a certificate, but as soon as i attempt to add a manual proxy the tablet crashes and doesn't save the settings. I've done the same thing with Samsung Galaxy S5s (4.4.3) and they work absolutely fine.
I've used KIES to update the tablets and that doesn't seem to resolve the problem either. Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

G,
hi, just to be clear, i don't know about proxy setup, BUT what you said with regards to the certificate got me to thinking
maybe it's security related, specifically from this thread as a thought, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=938482
A) Ask your company IT system admin to allow your MAC ID to access the internet.
Also maybe something in this thread as to your process, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=975791
an unrelated device but discusses reboot issues when setting proxy manually,
Also, though i can't find the thread, i remember reading about rooting/tripping knox making devices disqualified/blacklisted/unusable
for enterprise mode.
hope that points you in a helpful direction.

Hey thanks for your help!
what is strange is that it doesn't seem to happen on the phone, although they are configured very similarly. There is nothing on the network that is blocking Mac addresses, or even the device type! its quite similar to the issue in the link you posted, but i couldn't really find a solution in that link!

I have fixed mine.
There was no MAC address programmed to the device at factory. That's an omission. So the WIFI driver when activated after restart or by turning wifi off/on notices that and gives a temporary MAC address.
That address changes in the last bytes.
The solution is to write a WIFI MAC address with an appropriate tool. I did use SN_Writer just be careful to leave the other data alone.
I guess the same happens with the Bluetooth address but did not check that out yet.

Can you make a post on how to do this with sn_writer and the files/links you used for the s7.
I doubt elephone will ever officially fix this, so a separate post will be great

Look here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/elephone-s7/how-to/elephone-s7-fix-changing-wifi-mac-adress-t3527478
Elephone won't fix that one I am sure. Maybe they will program a MAC in later badges.
Hello,
My Wifi tethering doesn't work ... when I'm putting on the wifi tethering, the other device connected on haven't Internet.
Could this Mac Adress be the problem ? or it's other one ?
Thx
I have the same problem at my place of work network. I have to keep adding different Mac addresses into the router.. I did log this bug with elephone, but surprise surprise nothing has been done to fix it
Wifi tethering works here. As for MAC address look at my post I linked before and follow that guide.
I wouldn't count on a official fix for already delivered phones. Maybe newer badges won't have the problem but as verified it is fixable.
Cheers
This works for me. Thanks a lot!
