[Q] Serious problems w/ HTC HD2 NAND ANDROID - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Every time i boot android it freezes either with the GO GO GO! or at the start of android, every time i start gps, or turn on internet. Also when i play games or anything like that it freezes and does nothing else more. Sometimes when i play music and it freezes also the music does so it loops a buzzing sound. I have tried many different versions of NAND ROMS. All ended up freezing. It feels like i am the only one having such problems , because i have searched many threads and none have the same problem as me. So what should i do?

Which ROM?
MAGLDR Version?
CMW Version?
TMOUS/EU?
Radio ROM Version?

GRJ22 NexusHD2-GINGERBREAD v2.7NAND
MAGLDR 1.13
CMW 3.0.2.5
15.42.50.11U_2.15.50.14

can you descripe how you flashed the roms? maybe you did something wrong - each time.
maybe try to use some toolkit like mine or the other one to do a guided install.

Run task29 on your phone, then reinstall MAGLDR, followed by the correct partition layout., then zip package. Boot your phone WITHOUT the sdcardin it and test what you can (obviously music wont work without the sdcard.)
If everything works, you probably need to format your sdcard to remove any lingering configuration files thats its loading (dont forget to backup anything important you want to save of your sdcard.
Sent from my HD2 using XDA Premium App

do a task 29, reinstall magldr, go to clockworkmod, wipe data/chache/dalvik cache, then reinstall the rom

Well i have tried everything. Did the task29 about 10 times and reinstalled maglrd 5 times. I get stuck on the CWM. I download the right partition layout (as the rom requires) and whenever i try to boot from NAND i get nand kernel open failed. I also try the AD recovery under #8 i get stuck on the ''GO GO GO''. I have tried this for 5 hours and still no luck. I'm giving up and flashing a stock W6.5 rom. Thanks for trying

Sounds like you didn't flash the cwr right
Try the guide from this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=945427

Okay so i decided to do this from scratch. Stock downgrading the rom then from the beginning. I'll post if it will be successful.

I had the same problem...
It was the sd card. It was corrupted and I was told to use the Panasonic formatting tool(after removing pictures and music and t backup and sms backup)
So I hspl 2.08 mag 113 loaded zip and away I went
The formatter even brought back to life 2 sd cards that windows couldn't format.
Hope this helps. It worked for me.

I have the same problem with an HD2 TMOUS.
The freezing problem happens when performing certain tasks, like gps navigation, 3g/edge navigation or video filming.
I did again the flashing process from scratch, task29, magldr, cwr, and finally the rom, for a moment it was ok but then the problem started again.
I installed Sygic instead of Ndrive on this device and the freezing problem using gps go away. But when I turned off wifi and when the data connection over 3g/edge started the phone freezed again.
Going to check the sd card but I think this could probably be something with the cpu load.
PS: Sry for my english

The Final Thing.. HTC HD2 Hardware crap..!! Overheating issue
My Dears
This problem has nothing to do with the Rom /versions of Rom / winmo or android roms / the way u flash / or there is nothing wrong with the applications u installed / Processes Running in background
I experienced the same misery & also have seen many forums, where friends having this issue, usually they attribute it to software issues with roms/ applications, but unfortunately its not like that!!
Indeed its hardware issue because of faulty Motherboard your Leo has inside.
Your phone crashes because of overheating CPU and fails to reboot until unless you wait to let it cool down for 4-5 minutes or more by taking battery out
HTC HD2 Freezes, fail to soft reset, even stuck on rebooting when its processor got heat up up to 37 - 38 C, its fairly common to get up to this temp wen u use wifi, data connection, sd card, hold your set in hand or there is summer when usual temperature outside is 35 - 40 or more
Basically its design fault, When you use your hd2 for some time, its 1ghz processor produce a lot of heat, but no way for it to dissipate, 2nd all the imp things like antenna, sd card port, sim card port, charging port are concentrated on lower aspect of set causing excess heat generation but its metallic casing fail to dissipate, and eventually your processor fails to work at all
I have tested it personally, i used battclock on winmo & also widget telling temp on android, hd2 works fairly wen its core temperature remains <35 C, once it goes upto 37 - 38C its starts freezing and then even fails to reebot untill unless let it be cool down.
No other solution except to send your set to htc warranty or repair center & get your motherboard replaced
Not all the handsets of htc hd2 have this problem, many works well, but if you are unlucky to have the weird one, get its motherboard replace
& all the things will be fine
i have a bad words for HTC, Poor job!!

[Q] HD2 Android Keeps Crashing; help!

I've switched from windows to android for my htc hd2 and I've been experiencing a lot of freezing/hanging issues. I had no choice but to pull out my battery to restart my phone a lot of times.
Does anyone encounter the same problem after they change to android? Or is it like this? It's like, when i play a game, it'll hang sometimes. playing music halfway, it'd hang. or even using GPRS and it'll hang. =.= help!
btw, i'm using the SD builds. It doesn't really matter which sd builds cuz i tried quite a few and I'm still getting a lot of hangs randomly here and there.

Care to tell us more ?
Radio?
WM ROM ?
Android ROM version ?
Hi, I've been experiencing the same problems. I'm booting android through WM 6.5 through the SD card method. I've tried the AmericanAndroid (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=957652), a HTC sense ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=954030), a MIUI ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1058809) and Darkstone's superRAM froyo. They all tend to crash randomly after a while, and there's no way to solve the problem but pull out the battery... One reason suggested on the forums was that hot weather tends to make the HD2 overheat and crash, which makes some sense because I live in Singapore (that's tropical, btw). But my WM6.5 doesn't crash nearly as often...
O another thing: whenever I boot into android through SD, I tend to get high battery drains of about 60mA. One solution I've found was to shut down the phone, then hold the volume down button while booting in WM6.5. This brings me into a multi coloured screen (is it called the bootloader or something?), and I pull out the battery. After which I boot into WM6.5 normally and boot android from the SD card. That normally brings down the battery drain to about 10mA, but I'm not sure how this works/why it works that way/what side effects this may have... Besides this I follow all the standard procedures, so I'm not sure why android crashes on me so often...
Flash NAND Android ROM and all your troubles will disappear.
Please ensure rom you flashed is the appropriate one. Check ur devicd model, choose rom for ur device, read faq/explanation from chef who built thd rom. Check recovery partition required for your choosed rom. Yesss flash nand rom and flash into ur nand. If u prefer sd rom ensure ur sdcard is in good condition

hi,
1. try booting into WM6.5 stock rom, w/o any modifications. you should be able to download through the htc website
2. try using WM6.5 a while, see if it hangs/restarts itself. there shouldn't be the case if you're using stock rom.
3. if you still face the restarting/freezing problems even using stock WM6.5 rom. send your phone for servicing.
As my warranty was still valid, i sent my phone for servicing and they changed the whole motherboard of my HD2. Now my phone is running smoothly on both WM6.5 and Android.
The service that HTC offers in Singapore is quite good. You can call them to come to your house and collect the phone personally. If you need, you can ask for a loan phone. They'll repair and return your phone to your doorstep in about a week's time. I'm pretty happy with their efficient service Tell me which company will come and collect your phone at your doorstep and send it back to you when it's all good. Thumbs up all the way for them!
Hope this helps.
Thanks for the replies. I switched to NAND with hyperdroid by pongster, but the crashing persisted for a while. It seems that the connection between the SD card and the phone is the problem. There was once that I got ~60mA of battery drain, then I pulled out the SD card and the drain went down to ~10mA (I was running on NAND of course). I then went on to try a difference SD card (a 4GB sandisk), and the the HD2 stopped crashing. It has also never crashed with the SD card removed. Moral of the story: a very stable SD connection is essential if you want to use SD builds...

[Q][Help] Strange Freezes

Hi,
so my problem is a bit strange... i didnt find anything that would be of help untill now.
Im using a HD2 512 (EU)...
I tried like 4-5 android NAND versions
and its the same problem with all of them.
Actually it even started after i flashed to a newer WinMo Version.(It worked just fine with the original stuff on it)
I had to change the HSPL for it from 1.44 to 2.08 of corse.
If i use it normaly .. lets say i only listen to music, surf or call it works just fine.
But if i Surf + Listen to music or play Games it just freezes. (So if i heavily use it i guess but music + surf shouldnt be a problem for such hardware lol....)
It does not reboot or anything so i have to take out the battery.
Also when it freezes while i listen to music there is a realy nasty LOUD sound comming with the freeze. like bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...
So is there any advice or a solution for this?
I hope i didnt forget any information.
ty in adv.
That's a very weird problem. I don't think it's a matter of no ram available, as I have ran into situations where I use up all my ram, and my earphones certainly don't give me a bzzz sound.
Well sort of a stretch in helping but try doing a task 29, reinstall your radio, then MAGLDR and then your android build. Maybe you should get a task manager also to close apps so you don't run out of ram.
Also refrain from pulling out the battery, you might mess up the pins. Try to use the soft reset button instead.
ive done task 29 installed new android versions / tried cwm and the ones without cwm
magldr has been installed too
even changed my radio to a new version
still freezes but ive noticed that my ram is pretty ok i got 200 mb left while playing
so its ok i guess
there gotta be another problem
also games freeze after a while so if i play 5 min.
the weird thing is that angry birds never freezed untill now (ive been playin 20-30 min)
no more ideas? =S
can't really offer up much help but i've had almost exactly the same experience - been using android from SD since xmas and its been very stable then started getting freezes and the bzzzzzz (mine happened mostly when using youtube)
I switched back to the faithful energy rom and kept getting freezes even on minor use e.g. just browsing, followed by multiple boots. I found that the back was getting hot as well and it would only turn on and work properly once I'd left the battery out for a while.
I've wiped everything and gone back to stock SPL and the latest stock rom/radio and im going to see if it continues and if it does its going back to HTC
the device might have developed a hardware problem...
one thing to check for is bent battery pins...look closely and make sure they are all straight and shiny.
i think that its a hardware problem too
the pins are ok not bent and everything looks fine
the back was getting very hot with original rom but i didnt have any crashes
ive sent the device in maby they will even excheange it if its a hardware problem
ill post after i get it back maby it will help someone
ty
I`ve same problem and i realized that is hardware problem
i`ve changed almost everything to try out where is a problem.
Most of hangs i`m getting when Igo is up and running, no meter i`m on route or just try to simulate a route. I`ve also tried to lower CPU speed from application an to left it running on 410 MHz. Device is much colder than but it hangs again and when it hangs screen is freeze and device getting hotter and hotter and there is no other way to get it back except taking battery out and put it back again.
i thought that first of all problem was in SD card because Igo is starting from SD card but i`ve tried from another one working at my colleague device but same problem persist.
Then i thought that problem is in Igo version but tried 7-8 different ones and same problem persist.
Then i thought that problem is in GPS receiver (hardware part) but i`ve tried to simulate route for about 2000 km with GPS receiver plugged out and same problem persist again.
I assume that mother board is problem and now i don`t have a way to test that part
Will see in next couple of weeks maybe some cheap one comes up on Ebay or something like that.
Any idea?
Maybe i`m wrong somewhere?

Random HD2 Freezes!

Hi guys. I've been running the Android Stock Desire build from Cotulla for a few months now. Every once in a while I'd get a freeze, but then a battery in, and out would fix the problem (usually within the first try. sometimes I need to do this a few times, but no more than 5 times)
However, since last Friday my phone has been crashing like crazy! Constant crashes at random stages, and even reboots. Removing the battery also didnt guarantee a fix. I think I may have tried it about a hundred times, and Android just crashed at a random point in time during every boot. Eventually it booted, but since then it has crashed again! I figured that perhaps I should try a newer build.
I've decided to try out this build: [08.MAR.2011][CWM]TyphooN CyanogenMod 7 RC2 v2.5.4[2.3.3][A2SD/RAM][rafpigna OC 1.8]. Since I already have radio 2.15.50.14, these are the steps I've taken:
- Flash Task29 (ShaDrac version).
- Flash MAGLDR 1.13
- Flash ClockworkMod Recovery v1.3 135M System
- Flash CM7
Now, even during the various stages before flashing the CM7 rom, I would get freezes during the MAGLDR 1.13 bootscreen, or recovery won't load and I'll get stuck on the GOGOGO screen. Also, copying the zip file over in the MAGLDR mass storage mode won't work, and causes a freeze when I start the copy. Reset, or Battery removal seems to get me to the next step again.
Eventually I've flashed CM7, but now it freezes at the setup stage.
I'm starting to think maybe its not the various Android builds that I'm trying, but perhaps the problem lies somewhere else on the phone? Any ideas? Is my radio perhaps not the best one for the phone (even though its the latest)?
Any help will be much appreciated.
Regards,
XA83
Shameless bump (hope I'm not breaking any rules!)
I realize this post should have probably been under the CM7 thread as well, but I don't have access to that yet due to my low post count...
Could be:
*Wrong CWM Size, check in the rom thread for information
*leftover data, task 29 and reinstall everything
*Corrupted data on SD card, try booting without sd card to see if this is the case.
Thanks for the reply.
I've removed both the SD card and the SIM card. Phone seems to work flawlessly. Boots CM7 without a hitch. Next step I've added the SD card back, and formatted the card from the CM7 settings page. Still perfect.
I've tried it about 5 times now and every time the SIM card is not present, the phone works like a dream. Every time I put the SIM card in, CM7 crashes within the first few seconds of showing the home screen.
Finally, some progress!! Thanks again for the assistance. However, what dis this mean? Could this be related to the actual SIM card I'm using, or does it have to do with the part where it initiates the network connection and possibly the 3g connection?
*Also, just for information, I believe that I do have the correct CMW size. The build indicates "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery v1.3 135M System" which is the one I've flashed.
maybe reflash back to winmo then do evrything all overagain to android
I doubt it's an issue with the phone and its initiating with the sim card. Just replace the sim card
the SAGA continues
Hi Guys,
So since my last posts I have actually managed to get the phone running Typhoon's CM7 and its been working great... for a while.
I'm currently on version 3.0.4 and I still get:
1) Freezes,
2) Reboots,
3) SOD,
4) This happened today: phone cuts mid-phone call and makes a loud buzzing noise until I pull the battery.
I'm thinking more towards hardware problem at the moment, but please let me know what you think, and what I can do to debug the sitaution. Is there perhaps a hardware monitoring app that I can install that logs the whole system every 1 minute that I'll be able to pick something up.
I was also thinking maybe the phone overheats. As explained in my original post, whenever a crash or reboot occurs, it would sometimes not restart the first time round after pulling the battery out and putting it back in. Sometimes I get crashes even during the MAGLDR stage with "fatal hit" and strange things like that. Or even when I boot into CWM sometimes.
Now, to test this overheating, I've experimented with placing my phone in the fridge for 5 minutes after a crash. Thusfar I've done this 3 times, and every time I get a clean boot when I put the cold battery back in and then the phone functions perfectly for a while.
So, overheating, or do I perhaps need another radio? I'm out of ideas.
Any help will be much appreciated. The problem now is that I'm so used to android that I wont be able to go back to winmo or even blackberry
Regards,
XA83
it happens to my phone, and did on my previous HD2.
I've tried every build, task 29, every radio...new sd card....everything.
matt
Are there any apps we can run to test battery temp, cpu temp, cpu voltage or anything like that? I'm pretty effecient at debugging PC hardware issues, but when it comes to my phone I feel like I'm back in the stoneage!
Please help
I have tried over and over and over and over on this kind of issue.
most if the time was some unfinished coppied file which can;t runs properly on roms.
Try to asks ROM developer.
- SD partition : how many partititons?
- SD partitions : what kind of partitions, is it using etc 2/3/4, does it comes with swap etc?
- Installation method : does it needs to clear phone ROM with cwr ? what is the size?
HD2 usually I will go for 400M size
- config.txt settings for SD/NAND.
A proper guide could helps you on in the installations
If you guys are having overheating problems resulting in freezes, you might want to use SETCPU and set a lower maximum frequency. Something like 800-900 mhz might keep your cpu's from getting too hot. Or maybe setting it to a different governor could help too, idk for sure.

Possible solution, Thanks mate,
I changed the CPU speed to 1036 Mhz from stock 998 Mhz speeds and haven't had a Freeze yet,
before that The touch screen would freeze occasionaly when there was a lot of activity like in games such as fruit ninja ....
a Lower CPU speed such as 806 Mhz also seemed to do the trick ...
I don't understand why the Freezes would occur at stock speeds ...
I'll have to give it a few days though ...

Update:
Tried that with Interactive Governer, it still freezes on odd occasions, and the battery temp shows 33-36 Degrees Celcius on load when running games ...
i'm beginning to think the freeze is temperature related, as it never freezes while it's cool ...
I'm going to try running it with Smartass governer and see if it makes any difference ...
regards.
Yeah, there's been alot of HD2 owners who've had high-temp related freezes, one guy even went as far as to dissassemble his phone, re-bond the cpu to his mainboard, and add a home-made heat sync to prevent further overheating (successfully)
I just figured changing the cpu freq or governor might reduce cpu load, or increase efficiency, resulting in less overheating. But I feel pretty confident in saying that you guys' freezes are very likely coming from heat. It was even a problem in stock WinMo roms

Yawp, I can barely charge my phone with the silicone case on anymore and that's in ac (the AC in my house is usually set at 74F) I have noticed I get freezes at 36C however I can go to the beach and get it up to 44C and it runs flawlessly

i'm getting freezes from cyanogenmod android too. i recently restored my ROM to the original 2.13 and believed to have all previous settings related to android deleted.
freezing
i realy didnt undrestand what the exactly means of freeze, my phone freeze after change rom ,i can't use "TyphooN CyanogenMod " becuz my phone freeze at the android logo and it didnt any animation to boot !!!
i have hspl8 , radio 2.15.50 ,Recovery_130M_system_4M_cache[v3.0.2.4],mgldr 13.
i install windows then install android but it steel frezz, i can install just HyperDroid-GBX rom !!
it this problem fix with cpu temp ??
i get it in Refrigerator still feee !!
Temperature
Hi guys. It's definitely the overheating causing all the freezes. I've now succesfully "fixed" my phone 11/11 times by placing it in the freezer and then it works flawlessly for at least a day.
I'll try setCPU to try and lower the CPU frequency from stock and prevent heat issues.
However, ideally I'd like to return the phone to the manufacturer as a defective one! Only problem - how do you convince the 'genius' tech guy that the phone overheats. Last thing I want is to send the phone in, and only get it back after a few months with some response that they found nothing wrong.
Hence, I'm still looking for some sort of app to prove in a way that the overheating is causing crashes... At least in that case they may be more likely to issue a replacement immediately. Any ideas yet?
Regards,
XA83
Just a follow up:
My phone has been sent back to HTC. After a long wait, tech support said they replaced the hardware components - I'm assuming the phone mainboard.
I've reflashed CM7 since, and it hasn't crashed a single time!
Verdict: Random freezes was caused by hardware problems on the phone, and the crashes was most likely due to overheating of the components.

Phone Freezes/Issues

(T-Mo, American HD2) - Running Hyperdroid, HSPL (Idk what version), and Magldr 1.13, not sure what Radio.
It started out one or two freezes during operating use. I flashed to a new build and it is lightening fast. No overclocking, but there is a CPU throttler. It isn't set to pass 995 MHZ, though.
The problem is that it seems to always freeze when it gets hot (warm actually). I know that's normal but It seems lately the summer heat (even a little bit) will usually cause the phone to freeze. It isn't always the heat to blame, sometimes when playing legitimate games the phone will freeze, and it's not even hot. Same with listening to music. Also, running Edge (no 3G in this area apparently..) will cause it to freeze.
Now, here's the strange part. Only once or twice have I been able to do a soft reset/battery pull and have the phone start back up without freezing. It always seems to freeze on magldr after the "go go go!". Sometimes it will only display the header at the top and nothing. Sometimes it will vibrate 7 times on magldr with only the header displayed and then freeze. It only vibrates when it gets really hot. Often, it will make it to the Android home screen.. And then freeze when you try and do something. I do have that many apps running in the backround, nothing heavy either.
Is the phone bad? Or... Going bad? I'm going to try reflashing everything, going to a stock radio (which I've had updated for a while and never had a problem), and starting with a new android build, oh, and possibly formatting the sd card clean.
If anyone has any suggestions/input.. Let me know please. It's getting quite frustrating!!
Also, this is a nand build...
I recommend a clean flash without any cpu overclocking app - these just add power consumption and more heat - so format your sd card, task 29 the phone, add cwm clear out the cache on the phone flash a recent 50 radio then a clean rom
time will tell if its a hardware issue
That's what I was thinking about doing.. Just flashing EVERYTHING and starting fresh. I'm doing that right now, I'll post back here in a few days and see if anything helps..
Just out of curiosity, do you have any favorite NAND android builds? I always have the hardest time picking one out..
Ok, Update... I can't even get HSPL mode into USB. It's stuck in serial. I couldn't get the phone to go into usb storage mode before, either.... Even on different computers.
Nvm.. It was the usb cable!
OK.. Update #2. I'm trying to send over the ROM once I mount the SD card thru magldr. It freezes.. Every... Single.. Time.. I'm trying a second SD card now..
Update #3.. Looks like the digitizer just went out!! Great....

[HELP NEEDED] Errors on all OSs / Bad NAND blocks?

For the last several months I noticed that my Androind builds are hunging up, sometimes several times a day, sometimes once a month. While using it might just stuck/freeze and it doesn't react at all until I remove the battery and instert it back.
Recently I decided to browse the forums and read about possible bad sectors on my NAND memory. Somebody mentioned that I should use MTTY and do >task 2a, which actually confirmed that I have a bad block, bud it's only one. The issue is that now being tired of MIUI ICS which hungs quite often, and ICS CM9 builds which are quite stable but at some point are freezing as well, I decided to move to WP7, which earlier was running perfectly on my phone and was able to install those ROMs without any problems. Today I found out that while flashing WP7 ROMs I can't get over Flashing Partition 7, same error with 3 different builds..
Also today I flashed an original WM 6.5 build, which was installed correctly but after 5 minut had an unexpected reboot...
I trying everything I know, Task 29, reinstall HSPL, reinstall MAGLDR, different partitions for CWR, looks like nothing helps..
Does anybody has any ideas or hints?
hey
seems your battery was fault?
I have the same problem
anyway if you find how we can know if there any bad sector tell me..
for me I realize that after charging battery outside it restart
thxs
What I noticed that under normal usage (basic applications, internet browsing, email and listening to music) nothing bad happens, at least on ICS CM9 with HWA.. It freezes when it gets warm. Under heavy usage it might get stuck and while it's still hot I can't really load the system properly, as it will freeze instantly. Once it settles down, in about 15minutes, the system would work like nothing happened. I actually discovered yesterday that I still have 2 months of warranty left, maybe I should just return to the shop. But that means I need to flash back WM 6.5
nand problems or heat problem ?
hi
i have many freeze system on a day when working on my hd2
i tried many systems wm and android nand and sd its always the same problem
i have to remove battery and wait for a minimum of 20 minutes i f i want to boot correctly
can somebody help with a program to remove bad blocks on the nand of hd2 ?
thanks
I dont thing it's possible to fix bad nand memory blocks.
I'm guessing that the only way is to change the main board.
My HD2 works perfectly with stock WM6.5 and android, so i might not have any memory problems, but i have been reading about it and it seems that is not that uncommon.
Regardless, if there is a way to recover/block these bad sectors by some software tool, i would like to know also.
Well, in the end I had to return my phone to the shop today, as it's still under warranty.
I'm curious if there are going to do something with it, fix it, replace, or just return back, as I'm not really sure if they will find any errors, but I hope they will.
Just in case, I flashed the original WM RUU from HTC, and yesterday, while playing with it for a while, it rebooted a couple of times, and was quite hot as well.
Last week-end I've been to Lisbon, were we had 32 degrees at some points, so my phone was freezing every 5 minutes, when I put it in front of the blowing AC fan from the car it could work like that for hours without any issues, but I suppose it should work like that always and in all conditions. This made me understand that the overheating due to a faulty board could be the root cause of all problems. I suppose that even the bad blocks appeared after the overheating issue appeared
I will write here an update when I'll get my phone back from the service.
