[Q] My3G T-Mobile Help for previoulsy rooted updated by mistake - myTouch 3G, Magic General

Hi,
my daughter updates from settings/updates their previously rooted My3G T-Mobile phone and now it is a endless booting loop.
Recovery is still there but can't select the options, i can navigate through all four but phone buttons do not execute them.
I can access fastboot, also Hboot and have a Gold Card.
So, i read every thread and tested many things but i need guidance because i don't want to do further damage.
Here it's phone current state:

Thanks in advance for helping on this, my daughter really miss their phone.

Have you tried flashing the stock Cupcake update or a RUU? That's how I get out of boot loops. And they are automatically picked up by fastboot.

Hi TheBlade,
no, not tried.
Have you a link or post with procedure to complete that task?
I can search but want to be sure on what to install.
Regards.

Sorry for taking so long to respond. Did you buy the phone in the US? I can see that you have a T-Mobile rom flashed. Is this a mytouch 1.2 (does it have a headset jack)? I can help you better if I know that.

Hi TheBlade,
no complains, my daughter can wait
Yes, it's a T-Mobile US phoneut doesn't have a 3.5mm jack, just the usb like HTC connector.

I believe this link: http://android.d3xt3r01.tk/cyanogen/magic/nbh/coc10/SAPPIMG.nbh
will work. Download and put it on the microsd card that came with the phone (don't put it inside a folder). Turn on the phone to the bootloader, and it should detect the file. It should ask if you want to apply the update. Say yes, and then you will be back to stock. Let me know how it goes.

Thanks TheBlade.
Performed the suggested process and got "Main Version is older!" Update Fail! message.
Anything else to try?

At this point I believe putting the file on the goldcard would work. It seems as though the update was partially completed, and so it refuses to let you flash an older rom. The goldcard forces it to flash the rom, so put put the file on the goldcard, and try to flash again.
Hoping it works!

Thanks The Blade.
Well, the funny thing is that i use the Goldcard that help to root/ing SPL this phone before. Anyway, i'll try to complete the whole Goldcard process again and see if it works.

Hopefully it works! Ill try and see if there are any other options.

you will also need to install correct drivers on your pc, install pdanet on your desktop, that should do it
In order to use fastboot to push any commands the phone must have an ENG. Hboot. When you boot into bootloader what does it say on the top line on the page with the skateboarding andriods on the bottom? If it says VISION PVT SHIP S-ON your pretty much stuck. The phone is a paper weight. HTC is probably the only one who can fix this. It must say VISION PVT ENG S-OFF or at least VISION PVT SHIP S-OFF if there is any chance for fixing it. The only other hopes in fixing it is to flasch the stock PC10IMG to the phone in bootloader but this will only work if the phone did NOT have the OTA 1.22 rom update applyed to it. There is no way to tell this unless you try it out, but if you do have S-OFF do not try this because it will turn S back on and your screwed. If it says S-Off there is a cooked version of the PC10IMG by hot_hands that you can flash that will keep your S-Off and give you root access plus it will flash the ENG Hboot for you, I have a copy of this at home and can post it later for you, if you have S-Off.

He can't use fastboot he doesn't have an ENG. HBoot he has the SHIP Hboot.
He can try the original stock 1.19 PC10IMG thru bootloader, that is his only option.

Sometimes it hard to fact the facts but I think your phone is beyond help, at least the help offered here in the forum, I think the only thing that will bring you phone back is HTC or JTAG both of which are not available here. Might call HTC and see if they can do anything for you.

For parts? I'm just guessing, $100.00, but you definitely dont want to pass it onto someone else with false hopes of somehow restoring it to working order. Bad Karma.
Are you sure you copied it to the root of your sdcard? With the right file name? It seems as if it isn't picking it up at all.

[Q] Removed SDCard Fixes?

I have an issue I have been trying to figure out on my own. I have scoured the interwebs searching for a solution and every time I think I've found one, it ends up being a road-block. I'd like to be able to post a fix for other people in various forums if I can find a way around it. So here's my story...
So a week ago a rooted my phone, I used Universal Androot and the Rom Manager, my phone was perfect with the multi touch, pinch zoom and other goodies...then I got greedy. I started seeing Hero Roms flying around the web, I wanted one. In this process I nearly bricked my phone, so I decided to put a stock rom back on it. My intention was to re-root and just leave cyanogenmod on my phone.
The problem is...dun dun dun, the dreaded Removed SD Card error. Now my SD Card only reads in hboot. Something during the OS loading disables my SDCard. I have been sitting at my computer for almost the last 48 hrs trying to find a way to fix it, because phone is semi-useless without it. Here is what I have tried:
1 fastboot -c board.sapphire disable_sdcard=0;
This gives me an ok and finish status but appears to have done jack once OS is loaded
2 fastboot oem enableqxdm 0;
this is not working because I have the dreaded perfected SPL
3 I have tried the [How-to]Fix Perfected SPL;
all of the SAPPIMGs give me incorrect Model IDs
4 I have tried re-downloading stock ROMs in case it was corrupted, nada.
I have been trying to find a way to flash the SPL without an SDCard and it doesn't seem possible...

I'd like to be able to help other people with this same problem, with credit to the person(s) involved in stomping out this fire.
Thank you to all constructive posts, let us get one step closer to ruling our phones.
Sound like the problem that I had. Different phone (mines a Rogers Magic) but same issue.
I ended up having to install the offical Rogers rom with the RUU.exe and then use the fastboot oem enableqxdm 0 command. Then I could re-root and do what ever I wanted.
My thread is here
Any particular mode the phone should be in for RUU Rom to read it? Sorry for the newbie questions but I really would like to enhance my knowledge.
DO NOT DO THAT!!!!! Where did you get the sappimg to return your phone to stock? What ROM are you currently on?
I got the ROM from Shipped Roms, it's a stock rom. I'D LOVE to be able to flash an SPL without the sdcard so that I could enableqxdm 0 the card reader back into exitence. I am down for trying all options.
The phone is rooted, via a file manager I have access to the system files if that helps at all... is it possible to edit init files and put them back on the phone? would that help?
The thing is, you can't use an RUU like the other guy did to get an engineering SPL loaded, you'll have to use the goldcard method to do that with your phone. As for the sappimg, there's about probably about 30 different images you can get from that thread. Which one did you download specifically? If you didn't get the 2.10.531.4, then you grabbed the wrong one. You can get the right one from here and flash it from hboot. I would try that before going the goldcard route.

Have you checked to see if your getting the SD card mount issue from recovery?
Yeah sorry I didn't mean for you to copy what I did as mine is a rogers Magic and things are different for your phone.
I was just indicating how I had to fix my phone.
Hey Don, Yea I got the 2.10.531.4, from S-R.com, its initially how I saved the almost brick, and the stock recovery does give me a E:\cant mount SDCARD.
Part of me thinks the rom ".4" has some kind sdcard block...
And I am unable to get the CID for my phone without the phone reading the sdcard, it's like walking a maze, I get close to what I think is figuring it out, but no luck yet, and I would love to be able to cross post a fix to other forums with people that arent having luck with fixing this issue.
That's easy, your CID is T-MOB010. The ".4" does have an SD card block as I've used it several times in the past. That's the shipped ROM for the myTouch 1.2. I would start by reloading the sappimg.zip from the link I provided. It's probably not going to make a difference, but is about the easiest double-check to do. The other option is to use the "old school" rooting method in my signature to get an engineering SPL loaded and then trying the two fastboot commands you tried before. I imagine the first command appeared to go through but in reality, didn't, similar to trying to run the "fastboot boot" command on a perfected SPL.
Will do. Will report back with results soon

There's two different CIDs. The one you get for the goldcard is specific to the SD card. You also have a Customer ID which is particular to the mobile company your phone is locked to. The one I provided is the CustomerID.

I rooted my Mytouch 3G 1.2 and have routinely upgraded the CM roms as they were released with no problems. I went to unroot the thing so i could sell it on ebay, but ran into problems. Currently it will load into Hboot, but will hang while unzipping system files. It appears to go into Fastboot, but I can't get a computer (fastboot commander or command prompt) to communicate with it. It shows fastboot and changes to Fastboot USB when connected to a computer, but that's all I get. I've tried various drivers and sappimg files. I have read that if it shows any signs of life then it can be saved. I have searched for hours trying to find solutions but haven't made any progress. That sounds about right Kevin and DonJuan. I've got a new baby and my attention to detail and directions isn't what it should be right now
I found that part of the problem I was having was with my wretched Vista laptop and a driver issue. When working on my XP desktop I can see the device in fastboot devices. I do have the headphone jack and realized that I do have the wrong radio. I think I'm sort of lost as to where my phone exists right now in the process of unrooting.
Thank you both for your fast replies.
Use the "Old school" rooting guide in my signature starting at Step #4. That will put you back on CM. I would leave it rooted to sell it unless you've got a buyer requesting for it to be stock as you may pull more interest. If your dead set on going back stock, you should be able to stop at Step #9 in the guide, turn the phone off, download this file, rename it to "sappimg.zip", put it on the root of your SD card, with it in the phone, turn it on holding volume down+power, and then follow the instructions on screen.
Awesome, I'm in Amon-Ra's recovery. Can I use it to restore a clockworkmod backup or are the two recovery methods incompatible? I guess part of my question should be whether my phone is technically rooted or unrooted at this point. Could I load a recovery from step nine of your guide and be done with it?
I tried using the stock img that you linked to (because I see stock MyTouch phones on eBay selling more often than rooted ones) but it gave me the Main version is older" message which is what got me started down this road in the first place. At this point, if I could get back to my backed up CM6.1 I would call it good.
P.S. I really appreciate your time and will donate.
If I'm not mistaken both recoveries use the nandroid backup. Just try restoring and see if it'll take. If not then you may just end up having to re-flash it. So what you were actually trying to do is flash the engineering SPL to bypass the version check. You flashed an entire sappimg which changes pretty much everything. Instead you should have used the engineering ZIP that's floating around which you would have flashed from recovery and it would've only changed the SPL.
I got everything back to where I started with your guidance. I guess you were right DonJuan, my CM6.1 MyTouch sold within 30 minutes on ebay for $125. Thanks again.

I had CyanogenMod 6 which became slow so I tried to reboot in recovery while USB was connected it didnt get into recovery mode and after reboot its stuck on CyanogenMod boot logo. When I try home + power it boots without going into recover mode and gets stuck in boot loop of CyanogenMod screen. I kept it on till the battery drained (almost 8 hrs 2-3 times) so dont think its issue with keeping it on for longer time.
So far I have tried all possible spamming.zip and spamming.nbh none of them work either get wrong model ID or update failed. I am not able to log in through ADB. adb devices doesnt show me any devices. But when i try fastboot devices i see my phone. But i can not push anything it says remote not allowed.
I tried goldcard but I cant get to the system files so cant swap the hex digits to create goldcard. I know someone would have a better idea.
Need some help from the experts .. please. Its been more than 2 weeks trying out all possible solutions but no luck.

- Reboot in HBoot mode, the phone will detect the file and will attempt to install. Select Yes and let it proceed.
Thanks, I'll do that when I'm done in University :-D
Just so I have more opportunities in case this happens again.
Could you give me a link to a instruction how to root and s-off?
This would help
And, just in case, which do you think is the best Custom Rom for the Wildfire?
You can use Revolutionary to get S-OFF and Clockworkmod Recovery. Guide here:
http://joel5121.blogspot.com/2011/06/wildfire-22-root-tutorial.html
The only thing that has changed is AlphaRev's Website. The new address is revolutionary.io. Everything else remains the same. Although, you will need a booting device to get it to work.
Lastly, ROM choice depends on whether one would like to keep HTC Sense or not. If not, then I would go with Cyanogenmod / Oxygen (Two ROMs I am pretty sure are available for the DHD as well). And, if you would like to keep HTC Sense, then the current favorites are DK Custom ROM and RemPuzzleROM.
Complete Listing available in the Index Thread linked in my Sig.
Good Luck
I only want to flash a ROM on the Wildfire. My dhd runs on arhd and I won't change that well, unless there's a newer version of arhd
Anyways, what is the best sense ROM
for the Wildfire? Should run smooth but stable and fast. And of course it should've good battery life

I'm stuck myself. Wildfire is working again, but neither can I root nor can I make S-OFF.
On AlphaRevX it "sends in Caroline" and "Caroline" comes out with an error report
However, USB-Debugging was turned on, SD Card active, connected to pc, but "only charge"...
That far for S-Off...
Then I'm trying unrevoked. Works so far, until the Wildifre is in the bootloader. Unrevoked tells me, it's waiting for bootloader. When I choose Fastboot on the device, unrevoked works on and tells me "Waiting for HBOOT to be ready..."
Nothing happens after that. If I choose Bootloader on the device, unrevoked tells me, that it has lost connection to the phone.
Then I tried Gingerbreak. Gingerbreak works, reboots the phone, I check for SU and can't find it. So I guess it's not rooted then :-/
Any suggestions?
Your only (free) option is Revolutionary on Wildfire's with official 2.2.1 and HBoot 1.01.x. Any other method (Unrevoked, Gingerbreak, SuperOneClick etc) will not work and will result in failure. Errors on Revolutionary can usually be treated EXCEPT when it says "Not writing bad block at mtd 0x00000", in which case, there are bad blocks on the NAND memory, and there is no fix yet.
The paid option is to find a store with an XTC Clip hardware box, which can S-OFF the Wildfire as well. They will charge you a 1-time fee for using it.
