Vegetative state - myTouch 3G, Magic General

I rooted my Mytouch 3G 1.2 and have routinely upgraded the CM roms as they were released with no problems. I went to unroot the thing so i could sell it on ebay, but ran into problems. Currently it will load into Hboot, but will hang while unzipping system files. It appears to go into Fastboot, but I can't get a computer (fastboot commander or command prompt) to communicate with it. It shows fastboot and changes to Fastboot USB when connected to a computer, but that's all I get. I've tried various drivers and sappimg files. I have read that if it shows any signs of life then it can be saved. I have searched for hours trying to find solutions but haven't made any progress. Current Fastboot screen shows Sapphire RE Unknown 32A Eng S-Off H
HBOOT 1.33.2010
CPLD-13
Radio- 3.22.20.17
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You need to get AndroidSDK installed. Is the computer detecting the phone? Does anything for the phone show up in Control Panel?

I have AndroidSDK installed on my computer, but adb devices doesn't list anything.

You have the wrong hboot and radio for a 1.2... can you confirm this does have a headphone jack?

He flashed the engineering SPL used for the goldcard method and didn't do anything after. Hopefully he'll still be able to get fastboot working so we can get him straightened out.

That sounds about right Kevin and DonJuan. I've got a new baby and my attention to detail and directions isn't what it should be right now
I found that part of the problem I was having was with my wretched Vista laptop and a driver issue. When working on my XP desktop I can see the device in fastboot devices. I do have the headphone jack and realized that I do have the wrong radio. I think I'm sort of lost as to where my phone exists right now in the process of unrooting.
Thank you both for your fast replies.

Use the "Old school" rooting guide in my signature starting at Step #4. That will put you back on CM. I would leave it rooted to sell it unless you've got a buyer requesting for it to be stock as you may pull more interest. If your dead set on going back stock, you should be able to stop at Step #9 in the guide, turn the phone off, download this file, rename it to "sappimg.zip", put it on the root of your SD card, with it in the phone, turn it on holding volume down+power, and then follow the instructions on screen.

Awesome, I'm in Amon-Ra's recovery. Can I use it to restore a clockworkmod backup or are the two recovery methods incompatible? I guess part of my question should be whether my phone is technically rooted or unrooted at this point. Could I load a recovery from step nine of your guide and be done with it?
I tried using the stock img that you linked to (because I see stock MyTouch phones on eBay selling more often than rooted ones) but it gave me the Main version is older" message which is what got me started down this road in the first place. At this point, if I could get back to my backed up CM6.1 I would call it good.
P.S. I really appreciate your time and will donate.

If I'm not mistaken both recoveries use the nandroid backup. Just try restoring and see if it'll take. If not then you may just end up having to re-flash it. So what you were actually trying to do is flash the engineering SPL to bypass the version check. You flashed an entire sappimg which changes pretty much everything. Instead you should have used the engineering ZIP that's floating around which you would have flashed from recovery and it would've only changed the SPL.

I got everything back to where I started with your guidance. I guess you were right DonJuan, my CM6.1 MyTouch sold within 30 minutes on ebay for $125. Thanks again.

I'm really lost....

Ok, I have a MyTouch 3G 1.2 (the newer one with the 3.5mm jack). I rooted the phone using the quick-root app then using ROM Manager I installed Cyanogen 6.0.0. After that the phone was running really slow (it's my wife's). I wanted to install another ROM on to the phone, so I was looking at the Radio version and I noticed that it said 2.22 and that I had a 32b device (?) I was thinking that maybe I flashed the wrong Cyanogen mod onto my phone so I downloaded CM6-Minimou in the 32a format. Using ROM Manager, I backed everything up then installed the ROM. Now I am stuck at the green MyTouch screen?! Did I just break my phone?
Any help would be excellent. Sorry for my inexperience. I normally stick with Windows based products...

You want to flash the Cyanogen-DS-6.0.zip. Can you still access recovery?
I was able to recover to an earlier version. So, I'm back into my phone, but it still says the following in Fastboot:
SAPPHIRE UNKNOWN 32B ENG S-OFF H
RADIO-2.22.23.02
I have the newer MyTouch... I thought it was suppose to 32A?
Post here all fastboot info... ALL.
And I recommend that you don't do anything before you consult with us.
Also which recovery image that you are running.

i have the Mytouch 3.5mm as well, and im a ROM whore, therefore if i have learned at least one thing from flashing so many ROMs, it is to GIVE IT TIME TO BOOT UP. When the lockscreen appears, let that baby sit for about 5-10min, THEN go in and set it up. And the Mytouch with the 3.5mm jack is 32B people!! It is what we call a hybrid. It has the 32A board (with 288mb of RAM) but it runs 32B ROMs and Kernels.

I took some pictures of the menus on my phone and ill upload them right now.
First, when i flashed the ROM, i waited 25 mins before taking out the battery. so im sure i was hosed.
I also vaguely remember that before i rooted and flashed the phone, i saw 32a somewhere in a menu.
here are the pictures:
EDIT: Ok, my phone didn't upload them. On the computer uploading them now!
Try flashing the original radio and SPL through ADB (not recovery.) It's supposed to say 32A in the fastboot menu.

Note: I am NOT responsible if you mess your phone up.
I am using mytouch 3g 1.2 with headphone Jack. The fast boot is 32A as standard not some jackup 32B. Do not get mislead. Read the forum some more on flashing. Search the lastest 2months posts.

Download the Android SDK (I saved it on the root of the C:/ drive)
Extract the contents of the zip in the AndroidSDK\tools
Put phone in fastboot mode
Type in: (hit enter after each line)
"cd\
cd AndroidSDK\tools
fastboot devices"
Wait for your phone to show up
Type in: (hit enter after each line)
"fastboot flash radio radio.img
fastboot flash hboot hboot.nb0
fastboot reboot-bootloader"
You should have the proper SPL and Radio now. Flash CM6 Again (the G1/Mytouch version,) and it should work. Again, I am NOT responsible if you mess up your phone.

Wow, I feel dumb. Anyways honestly RIGHT after I posted I figured out what I was doing wrong C drive, D drive... there all the same right?! Anyways, I got the hboot.hb0 to load, but the radio wouldn't finish. I left it for 30ish mins and it had one little bar left and it was done. I installed a different recovery rom (amon or something like that). After I got those installed it said 32a
I'll post any updates when they come
Ok, now when I try and do things in fastboot, I get a "Remote: not allowed" error. I'm pretty sure that it is because my Security is ON (SAPPHIRE PVT 32A SHIP S-ON G)
and my HBOOT is HBOOT-1.33.0013 (SAPP31000)
I can boot into my recovery ROM (and into the device. Loaded donut just to be safe), but I can't flash anything... now what?
Thanks again for having patience with me!

First of all, wrong section. Moving to General. Next time your post will be trashed.
Secondly, your not bricked. Please check your definitions.
Third, try flashing the engineering bootloader via goldcard method and then fastboot flash recovery recovery.img (Amon_RaG or ClockworkMod for MyTouch/Ion).
Then power off your phone and hold the home button while powering it back on.
You should now have a recovery. From there try flashing the rom again. If it still doesn't appear to be doing anything then do a wipe and reflash.
Thanks for the tips, ill go for that right now.
sorry for the wrong section. Im wouldve put it in the Q&A section if there was one.

Your going to have to find someone with an Android phone (any Android phone will work) to create the goldcard.
No need. If you got adb access you can flash the custom recovery from there (cm 6.1 has the SU and flash_image binaries).
Then simply load the custom recovery and fix your rom/OS (flash a new one or wipe or what ever).
Take a look at my guide (check my signature) and you will find all the steps needed. Just make sure you use G recovery and NOT H.
Good luck hunting!
To add to that, what radio are you using? You only gave us your hboot.

He stated that the rom won't load and he can't load the recovery. His spl is S-ON so from where I sit the goldcard method is his ONLY choice.
If that doesn't work then he's pretty much SOL.

If you have a ****ed spl/radio combo, then all this is for nothing and there are other issues to be fixed first!
Its kinda a difficult situation. I only have adb access for a little while while @ the Cm screen, then it goes away, and Im stuck at the CM screen. I have attemped the goldcard a couple times, but I dont have the correct card, and none of mine seem to work. Wife was shopping, and could only find SanDisk cards, and it didnt work.
Radio is 2.22.23.02
Im gonna attempt anything and everything I can think of to get it to work, but I might have to just run into town and find a damn Kingston card.
SanDisk cards work, got mine sitting in a box in my closet from where I rooted my phone. It may be a procedure that's wrong, not the SD card.
Ok well I managed to get the goldcard made, but when I get into HBOOT, it scans the card and states: no image or wrong image for the sappimg.zip.
file is @ the root of my sdcard, and wont read it, yet when I dont have the goldcard setup, it reads the file just fine. same exact file.

Its not. I've managed to get 2 goldcards succefully made, verified that multiple times, but it just doesnt work. It will not read the file from the SDcard.
I can put the same file on my sdcard from my HD2 and it will read it no problem.
I might play around with it more, but for now, Im calling it a brick.
Just to make sure, have you tried downloading the sappimg file again?

Yea, I've got 3 or 4 different ones on my PC, tried all, none work. It reads the sdcard and just passes it by.
Im really stumped. Followed the goldcard method to a "T" with 4 cards, 2 actually succeed in the proccess, but niether will get the sappimg.zip to read.
After installing the card into the phone and, attempting the Hboot, the HEX gets changed on the card also, just a few values, nothing exteme
IDK if thats normal or what, but it happens.
I don't think it should change anything so that may be your problem. I'm pretty sure I looked at mine after using it and it was the same. Weird.
well last resort, gonna turn my 8gb class 6 sdcard for my HD2 into a goldcard, and check.
after putting the sappimg on the sdcard w/o formating, goldcard or anything, the MT reads the sappimg, and attempts, but gets the error, of course. So im attempting the goldcard right now.
UPDATE:
It worked, got eng SPL on the phone, figured I would just follow CM guide for rooting to verify that it will work. but Im stuck:
# Once it finishes flashing, it should ask you to reboot. Reboot and let it load to the new "htc Magic" boot screen.
# Chances are at this point that the phone will not successfully boot. THIS IS NORMAL. Simply remove and re-insert the battery, as we're not done yet!
# Download the following zip file (the stock myTouch SPL and Radio) and extract it: [1]
# Copy the two files inside the zip to the root of your SD Card
# Take the latest Amon_RA recovery you downloaded earlier and copy it to the root of your SD Card.
# Download terminal emulator from the market and run the following commands:

[Q] Removed SDCard Fixes?

I have an issue I have been trying to figure out on my own. I have scoured the interwebs searching for a solution and every time I think I've found one, it ends up being a road-block. I'd like to be able to post a fix for other people in various forums if I can find a way around it. So here's my story...
So a week ago a rooted my phone, I used Universal Androot and the Rom Manager, my phone was perfect with the multi touch, pinch zoom and other goodies...then I got greedy. I started seeing Hero Roms flying around the web, I wanted one. In this process I nearly bricked my phone, so I decided to put a stock rom back on it. My intention was to re-root and just leave cyanogenmod on my phone.
The problem is...dun dun dun, the dreaded Removed SD Card error. Now my SD Card only reads in hboot. Something during the OS loading disables my SDCard. I have been sitting at my computer for almost the last 48 hrs trying to find a way to fix it, because phone is semi-useless without it. Here is what I have tried:
1 fastboot -c board.sapphire disable_sdcard=0;
This gives me an ok and finish status but appears to have done jack once OS is loaded
2 fastboot oem enableqxdm 0;
this is not working because I have the dreaded perfected SPL
3 I have tried the [How-to]Fix Perfected SPL;
all of the SAPPIMGs give me incorrect Model IDs
4 I have tried re-downloading stock ROMs in case it was corrupted, nada.
I have been trying to find a way to flash the SPL without an SDCard and it doesn't seem possible...

Thank you to all constructive posts, let us get one step closer to ruling our phones.
Sound like the problem that I had. Different phone (mines a Rogers Magic) but same issue.
I ended up having to install the offical Rogers rom with the RUU.exe and then use the fastboot oem enableqxdm 0 command. Then I could re-root and do what ever I wanted.
My thread is here
Any particular mode the phone should be in for RUU Rom to read it? Sorry for the newbie questions but I really would like to enhance my knowledge.
DO NOT DO THAT!!!!! Where did you get the sappimg to return your phone to stock? What ROM are you currently on?
I got the ROM from Shipped Roms, it's a stock rom. I'D LOVE to be able to flash an SPL without the sdcard so that I could enableqxdm 0 the card reader back into exitence. I am down for trying all options.
The phone is rooted, via a file manager I have access to the system files if that helps at all... is it possible to edit init files and put them back on the phone? would that help?
The thing is, you can't use an RUU like the other guy did to get an engineering SPL loaded, you'll have to use the goldcard method to do that with your phone. As for the sappimg, there's about probably about 30 different images you can get from that thread. Which one did you download specifically? If you didn't get the 2.10.531.4, then you grabbed the wrong one. You can get the right one from here and flash it from hboot. I would try that before going the goldcard route.

Have you checked to see if your getting the SD card mount issue from recovery?
Yeah sorry I didn't mean for you to copy what I did as mine is a rogers Magic and things are different for your phone.
I was just indicating how I had to fix my phone.
Hey Don, Yea I got the 2.10.531.4, from S-R.com, its initially how I saved the almost brick, and the stock recovery does give me a E:\cant mount SDCARD.
Part of me thinks the rom ".4" has some kind sdcard block...
And I am unable to get the CID for my phone without the phone reading the sdcard, it's like walking a maze, I get close to what I think is figuring it out, but no luck yet, and I would love to be able to cross post a fix to other forums with people that arent having luck with fixing this issue.
That's easy, your CID is T-MOB010. The ".4" does have an SD card block as I've used it several times in the past. That's the shipped ROM for the myTouch 1.2. I would start by reloading the sappimg.zip from the link I provided. It's probably not going to make a difference, but is about the easiest double-check to do. The other option is to use the "old school" rooting method in my signature to get an engineering SPL loaded and then trying the two fastboot commands you tried before. I imagine the first command appeared to go through but in reality, didn't, similar to trying to run the "fastboot boot" command on a perfected SPL.
Will do. Will report back with results soon

There's two different CIDs. The one you get for the goldcard is specific to the SD card. You also have a Customer ID which is particular to the mobile company your phone is locked to. The one I provided is the CustomerID.

[Q] My3G T-Mobile Help for previoulsy rooted updated by mistake

Hi,
my daughter updates from settings/updates their previously rooted My3G T-Mobile phone and now it is a endless booting loop.
Recovery is still there but can't select the options, i can navigate through all four but phone buttons do not execute them.
I can access fastboot, also Hboot and have a Gold Card.
So, i read every thread and tested many things but i need guidance because i don't want to do further damage.
Here it's phone current state:

Have you a link or post with procedure to complete that task?

Sorry for taking so long to respond. Did you buy the phone in the US? I can see that you have a T-Mobile rom flashed. Is this a mytouch 1.2 (does it have a headset jack)? I can help you better if I know that.

I believe this link: http://android.d3xt3r01.tk/cyanogen/magic/nbh/coc10/SAPPIMG.nbh
will work. Download and put it on the microsd card that came with the phone (don't put it inside a folder). Turn on the phone to the bootloader, and it should detect the file. It should ask if you want to apply the update. Say yes, and then you will be back to stock. Let me know how it goes.

Thanks TheBlade.
Performed the suggested process and got "Main Version is older!" Update Fail! message.
Anything else to try?
At this point I believe putting the file on the goldcard would work. It seems as though the update was partially completed, and so it refuses to let you flash an older rom. The goldcard forces it to flash the rom, so put put the file on the goldcard, and try to flash again.
Hoping it works!

Well, the funny thing is that i use the Goldcard that help to root/ing SPL this phone before. Anyway, i'll try to complete the whole Goldcard process again and see if it works.
Hopefully it works! Ill try and see if there are any other options.

HTC Drivers, recovery problems

Hi
I am trying to get my friends recently purchased Magic firing on all 4 cylinders.
The handset is 32b, rooted, has recovery and the rom is android 1.6.
Main problems are:
1. When i try to install a different rom I get an error message "E/can't open/update.zip. I have tried a couple of roms but get the same error and I have named them "update" not "update.zip.zip"!
2. I cant get the phone recognised on 3 diffrent PC's, each time I just get USB devoce not recognised. ive looked in Device Mnager and it doesnt even show up there.
Can anyone help with these problems and can anyone recommend and link a good rom.
many thanks
Dave
Check this link out Dave. Then decide if you want a quick fix.....or more grief.

If you decide that methods too risky, post your fastboot info so others can advise.

Cheers, i'll give it a go and come back if i get back.
In the mean time here is my fastboot info:-
Sapphire PVT 32B Ship S-Off G
HBoot 1.33.0013
CPLD-10
Radio 2.22.19.261
OK, update.
Although the phone is S-off I dont think it is rooted. If I go into terminal it is showing that the phone is not rooted. Also when I try to install RomManager it tells me that the phone isn't rooted.
This is where the problems really start. As I can't get my PC to recognise the phone I am now stuck!

The link I gave above is for someone who can't access their pc due to a fault on their phone(or they are lazy like me), so a pc isn't required for what you need to do.
I noticed the download links may be missing so for starters heres another link to sort out the root.

or google search universal androot, which I can confirm works on froyo 2.2 - I've just unrooted and then rooted my 32b to test it.
