Dead Pixel - Galaxy Tab 10.1 General

Well.... found a small dust speck that wouldn't move. I have a dead pixel.
Setup an exchange?

Depends on how much it bugs you, I guess. The 2nd I got (first one had light bleed) has a dead pixel way up in the upper left corner. Never even noticed it until I ran one of those screen test apps. I wish it was perfect, but not worth the hassle to exchange again.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App

That does suck, I would exchange it ASAP while you still can.

Hey.... hopefully Newegg will not give me to much of an hassle. Going to setup an exchange Monday.

I also had a dead pixel.... in the center of the screen. I exhanged it with Samsung... took about 2 weeks.

Had a dead pixel on mine and exchanged it with Best Buy.

I would not do it.. I may have bad luck but I exchanged mine and the second one was worse

Any dead Pixels yet? Should I exchange mine?

I have had my tab 3 days and today I noticed 1 tiny tiny dead blue pixel on the right hand side towards the middle of my screen. The store I bought mine from said it was the last one, should I try to take it back, I am having so much fun with it I don't want to, but I also don't want this to be an indication of more to come...

They usually don't go bad after you get a device, it's a manufacturing defect, not a failure, per se. It is highly unlikely that it will get worse, so if you can live with it, I'd suggest keeping it, at least until they get more back in stock.
Too much money for a defective device. I'll try exchange it.
My exact thoughts. That is gonna bug you and eat at you as long as you have it. It would me at least.

Who isn't going to RMA due to screen raise?

Who isn't going to send their nexus 7 in for exchange / repair ? I would probably have never noticed the screen issue if I wasnt reading the defect threads. I bet if you look hard enough you can find something wrong with anything. Right now the only issue is a slight raise on the left side on mine. There is no light bleed and no dead pixels or ghosting. I feel if I sent mine in and waited for however long it takes I'll get one back where the screen raise is fine and have a new issue like light bleed and dead pixels...
Thoughts?

Have you checked your screws?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1781237
Yes many have concluded it as a temporary fix

Lol how do people find this stuff mines is barely raised on the left side not bad enough for me to take apart and tighten the screws.
I'm not doing an exchange I love this thing and not ready to part.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
I checked my screws and found that they were loose and tightened them up, screen still barely sits above but solved the creak. I have 3 more weeks to tinker with it, my Gamestop said i can return it once the next batch comes in but if this fixed it i won't exchange it.
Yeah I'm not planning on returning it either. I have seen some videos that have a MAJOR raise on the screen. Mine is just a little bit and can easily be pushed back down if I want to. Other than that the tablet is perfect and I don't want to send it back and maybe get one with more dead pixels (only noticed one but et normal viewing distance I can't see its there) or ghosting or something else.
I do recommend you keep an eye on it and make sure not doesn't get any worse. I doubt it will, however I will be exchanging it if it does.

I think everyone's expectations for a $200 dollar tablet are too high.
I am perfectly happy with mine. I have a little screen raise, but haven't noticed any creaks. I will use it until something significantly better comes out, then i'll spend another 200 to upgrade it.
Phones with comparable specs (albeit a smaller screen) are in the ~$400 range (gnex).
Mine was fine for the first 5 days, but has now started to lift. It sounds like double-sided tape coming unstuck. It's only raised about 0.5mm above the frame on the left hand side though, so I don't intend to return it unless it gets a lot worse, or it begins to affect other things (e.g. dust getting in, or digitiser playing up).
May yet return mine for ghosting, though doing a full discharge of the battery MAY have cured that issue (fingers crossed).
Why can't I get through Googles own support site to do a rma on my Google device? Wtf
Because everyone and there mother has flooded them for RMAs :/

Im thinking about sending my nexus 7 because of a yellowish tint on one of the corners when viewing pure black. But I am afraid of getting one with worse issues like the raised bezel or dead pixels.
Sent from my HTC Sensation using xda premium
If I only had the slight screen rise I would probably keep it, but I have a creak on the right that is loud and driving me nuts. Sadly, everything else seems perfect - hopefully my next one will be truly flawless...
I'm not. My Nexus 7 looks very well made, and in perfect shape. I've had it for 24 hours.
Is their support 24 hours? I've been busy and finally called. I've been on hold for about 10 minutes and it seems like they're open...
Yea I wasn't going to originally but after the screwdriver fix did nothing, and its basically like a creaky teeter totter on the left and right sides, I decided I should probably RMA. I love the tablet tho. I've used it A LOT since it arrived. It's amazing.
I have a very slight screen raise issue and I have requested to get a replacement, and depending on the condition of the replacement I'll either keep the new 1 or keep the old 1.

You can do that? I just figured Google would force you to ship the first one back, even if the second one was worse...
Keeping mine, no reason to return for such a silly non issue. Doesn't effect the use of the tablet at all.

Me, because both of my Nexus 7s are free of this, or any defects.
Same here. My left side of the screen sticks up a tiny bit, I'm waiting for a replacement but if the next one is worse ill just keep this one and try the washer fix or live with it. I still think it's a great tablet, especially for the price. I'll take this over an ipad costing hundreds more any day.

Would you accept 1 dead pixel ?

I just go my n10 today and really like it. Just ran a dead pixel finding app as my n7 had loads. I got 1. Its there in bottom right corner, a black dot that keeps staring at me now.
Is this considered "acceptable" or would you get it replaced?
So far everything else is fine, I could end up with
A: A worse one
B: The same again with dead pixel(s)
C: A 'perfect' one
That assuming Google don't have a minimum acceptable dp level
Any thoughts?

Depends on how visible it is to you. If it were me, I'd be exchanging it. Displays with dead pixels aren't all that common, at least in my experience. I've got a 2560x1440 monitor and it has no dead pixels. My older monitor which is 1920x1080 had one black pixel dead center, and I asked my friends what I should do. They instantly said replace, and I'm glad I did. Got a perfect monitor back from Newegg and I probably would've regretted keeping it. Once you notice the defect, you're always going to notice it.
I see so many posts from people who go to all kinds of trouble to find things wrong with their devices so they can return them.
If you keep looking for things that are wrong, you are going to keep finding them and never be happy. I received my Nexus 10 yesterday. I haven't run any tests on it, didn't check for light bleed, didn't check for dead pixels, etc. I just used the tablet.
And you know what? It's awesome and I love it. If you had never checked for the dead pixel, you probably would have never noticed it. But you did, and now it's all you can see.
Sorry, this is a trend that I have noticed with devices lately that kind of bothers me. My suggestion - get a new one and don't go over it with a fine tooth comb! Just enjoy it!
I would return it. I expect what i paid for, not something that is close enough to what i paid for.

Yeh I guess your kind of right, however I don't WANT a reason to return it.
I'd just be p***ed if I discovered faults after my statutory return period expires. N7 was replaced twice in 1 month. If I'd not checked it thoroughly id have had no option but a replacement (after 30 days) , not the refund I actually got.
Thanks guys
Going to call Google tommorow, dunno when they will have stock to replace it with though.

RMA it. If it's not for quality control do it for the peace of mind. Knowing you have a dead pixel will leave you unhappy.
Just be sure to check for other defects on the new device when you get it.

Return it. I wouldn't accept a dead pixel or extreme light bleed.
Sent from my Nexus 10 using xda premium
First of all, 1 dead pixel is completely acceptable in all circumstances and no company should (or does?) do a return for 1 dead pixel. ALL policies cover a few dead pixels, usually the general policy is 3 or less dead pixels in the center region and 5 or less within zones along the outside regions. A company can choose to be nice and offer a replacement anyway, but they are in no way obligated to replace any unit that has a screen with only 1-2 dead pixels. Some companies choose to offer special models with a "guarantee" to not have dead pixels (really just that the policy is now 1 dead pixel at most) but they also charge a price premium for these special models in the range of an extra $100 in most cases.
Second, it should be INCREDIBLY hard to see a single dead pixel even if it were in the center of the screen. The density is just too much to cause complaints from 1 being dead.
I had a single dead pixel on my iPad 3. When I took it to the Apple centre, they refused to replace it. They said that Apple has a policy of needig atleast 3 dead pixels in a bunch.

Well uncle Google has kindly accepted to replace it for me.
For the record, you can easily spot the dead pixel on a white background. I admit I found it using a test app. But now it's discovered I see it every time.
Maybe I'm being fussy but my s1,s2 and now s3 have never had 1 single dp. Tablets are bigger so I guess there's a greater chance.
Anyway fingers crossed the replacement is dp free

I've only come across 1 dead pixel on the many screens I've seen (was on a CR-48 test Chromebook from Google), and it was a red pixel in the middle of the screen. I used the laptop for a while anyway and just generally ignored it.
Maybe since it was a free laptop that I didn't use primarily, that made me not really mind it too much; but if I saw that on my Nexus 10, it would bother me quite a bit.

Has anyone got a unit without dead pixels? O.o

I love the phone, but I'm onto my fourth replacement now because they've all had dead pixels. If this next one is still faulty I'll likely give up and settle for it, but I'm very surprised - I've not had this problem with any other manufacturer and it's weird that HTC has this issue.

I went through 3 Dev editions. I got tired of playing this game and cancelled my entire order. Getting a black one from ATT on friday, lets see how this goes. Worst case scenario I take it to a store and they give me one right on the spot. (or get it in from somewhere).

I don't have any dead pixels either. I'm on my second one, neither had dead pixels. Only exchanged due to a weird light coming from the top of the screen, speaker crackling, heavier than usual and a gap in the screen.
My ATT store said they got a new shipment, went in and exchanged and my new One is perfect. =)

1 Lonely dead pixel (2013)

Recently bought my New Google Nexus 7 (2013) from Bestbuy this past Saturday. and I've loved it, and will keep on loving it. but I noticed one small, lonesome, scared, dead pixel around the left hand corner. Normally this wouldn't bother me, but considering I'm still in the 14 day warranty I was wondering should I honestly waste my time, get perhaps a new unit and maybe the new unit could be worse than the one i currently own?
There's absolutley nothing wrong with the current unit I own, besides the Dead Pixel. and was curious if anyone else had the same issue? would you suggest returning it, and actually get what I truly want. or should i just forget about it. I mean it's pretty hard to see, but just knowing that it's that is just killing me. I have OCD and this is not helping it :|
All comments are welcomed.
Also, does anyone else notice a rattle noise coming from the rear, back camera when you tap on it? not to worried about it. but just wondering if it's something TOO worry about.
Well, I would say bring it back to Best Buy, especially since you are still in the return period. That's what it's for! And if the new one is worse than that one, you can return it too!
I stayed in the parking lot of best buy playing with mine until I was satisfied. I exchanged one within an hour of using it. My second one was perfect! No light bleed or any issues!

I've picked up my 32Gb on saturday and haven't looked back to the 16gb. from what I've heard it gets full quick, and when i first looked at my total storage it said I had 25 Gigs left, so I can only imagine what 16Gb had left.
Got mine via Amazon and it had 4 dead pixels, sent it back and my second one is perfect, no dead pixels.
If it had been one dead pixel, I'd probably still send it back for replacement. So I say get a replacement.
I got a dead pixel too
Going to staples tomorrow and exchange it. I got it from staples online.

i usually turn brightness all the way up, go into a dark room, google deal pixel test and use any
to check for light bleed use dark black ground and check around edged... rotate other colors to check for dead pixels.. pixels are tiny on this 1080p 7" screen
for multi touch look up multi touch tester on googple play and download the app

If i get any problems, i'll probably just live it i guess, the price you pay for being an early adopter
the problem is that you may return this and then get one with 5 dead pixels and dust under the screen. it may take you 6 exchanges and a headache before you're happy. there's no quality control on these at all so you really have to decide.
