T-Mobile handing out Froyo to Vibrants tomorrow

I still think it won't be until February/March. Kinda ironic that t-mo is the first to release the update since they were the ones that came under fire for allegedly holding up 2.2 until the fascinate 4G came out.. hmmm..
You never know. Sprint likes to be "the first" at things. Maybe this will put pressure on them to roll out froyo sooner then later as well.

Believe it when I see it.
I also saw a unicorn today...
Sprint should change their name to Snorlax... it would be more fitting....
Epic is as Epic does
I can promise you that we won't get 2.2 before the Captivate. Past that, I have no idea. It seems the problem is really getting the CDMA differences worked out. That said, I'd hate to be a Continuum user right now.
Probably only because of the backlash about Samsung holding it in order to sell more Vibrant 4Gs.

We're not totally sure, but we imagine that T-Mobile's rivals aren't sitting still -- we'll probably hear some fascinating, captivating and totally epic news about Froyo any minute now.
We are getting froyo very soon.
Vibrant scheduled for tommorow, and Mesmerize(U.S. cellular) is scheduled for early february. So who knows when e get it.

Anyone here file a class action? I actually believe that Brodman guy when he said that they just weren't aware that timely updates are very important to users. Google has introduced a new paradigm with their frequent OS updates, and I don't think the carriers have really considered updates a top priority. One thing is for certain, flood their Facebook pages and Twitter accts. I'm pretty certain that anytime anything regarding any topic is posted anywhere regarding T-Mo, a flood of Vibrant users respond with calls for the Froyo update.
And I guess the best thing is if you can get something written up in one of the big tech media sites. The carrier execs may not be reading XDA, but they sure start running for the mikes when they get a black eye in Engadget or TechCrunch.
Sprint has tweeted that the Epic will get Froyo ASAP, but this isn't new . I'm still going to hope that T-mobile will pressure Sprint to roll out Froyo.

ASAP huh? That could be tomorrow or a year from now depending on whenever they feel it's "possible".

If it really is true, based on what the Tmo CMO stated, that the hold up is caused by the carriers needing to add whatever software they think we need. Well, that's just ridiculous. They should just stop messing with apps not everyone wants on their phones and just release Froyo or whatever is in the pipelines. Perhaps we should start a campaign to get manufacturers and carriers to move closer putting stock android on their phones. Just a thought.

So.....Time to put Gingerbread rumors to rest?

Froyo source is out. The last ROM to leak out was KB1, and that was almost 3 weeks ago....and it came out not long after the official Froyo KA6. Forgive me for starting this discussion (or argument, depending on how this develops), but I'm thinking that the lack of any recent ROMs in conjunction with the release of KA6 Froyo source and absolute silence by Samsung on Gingerbread for Galaxy S pretty much means there is no way official Gingerbread is coming to Vibrant. I'm just saying. Not knocking Samsung (for this, anyway, no need to rehash everything Samsung SHOULD be knocked for), because they never promised Gingerbread. I'm guessing no more official Vibrant firmware development whatsoever is taking place.
I think (and this is just my opinion) we shouldn't get too ahead of ourselves worrying about gingerbread. Especially when we have some epic ROMs to look forward to now that the froyo source is out.
I am waiting for the CM7 or teamwhiskey to port 2.3 to vibrant
If that's true, then wouldn't that mean that vibrant 4G would also not get gingerbread? Not 1 update.... at all?
Keep it in your pants buddy.
The reason there haven't been any leaks is because Samsung changed the ports on their FUS server. Haven't figured out which one it is yet.

Gingerbread is optimized for the Hummingbird while Froyo is optimized for the Snapdragon. It should give better performance. I finally had a chance to play with a NS for an extended time the other day and it is lightning fast bone stock. There are also some new api's that no one has begun to utilize...yet. It's like Eclair was - nothing special except for the processor boost. Icecream or whatever you want to call the next release is probably going to be a major upgrade with hardware acceleration and a ui overhaul.

Why the fuss?
I like the changes in froyo as much as anyone else. What I don't understand is if froyo makes or breaks a phone a for you why didn't you buy a phone with froyo already released. We had a choice and decided to buy a phone with 2.1 instead of 2.2 there were options avaliable. The fascinate with the exception of the gps issue works great out of the box. Okay once it was debinged it was better, and if I had known about the bing thing I would not have bought the phone. Also thank you devs for all your hard work at making a good product even better.

I agree with you except for the bing thing. Did I want bing? No. But it was easy enough to make it mostly disappear even without root.
But I 100% agree on buying a phone for what it can do off the shelf. Once the GPS was fixed the Fasc was a perfectly competent smart phone. Believing in the 'promise' of a wireless carrier is kind of like believing the dentist when he says 'this won't hurt a bit'.

Not kaos. It's full steam ahead for Kaoscinate now. Kaos doesn't have a tbolt, at least not yet. This may be a selfish statement, but I hope he doesn't get one, because we need him focused on this phone, and I still feel bad for taking his focus away from his Eris roms, which haven't got much love since he got the Fascinate. I'm confident that he'll be getting back to them once a fully functional Kaoscinate release is up and running though, which should be soon now with the source code available.

galaxy s gets gingerbread before atrix?

http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/16/...pdate-now-rolling-out-across-europe/#comments
kinda sad that a phone thats been out for almost a year is getting gingerbread before the atrix. i think its ATT's fault. they seem to delay OS updates, at least they did for the captivate. both rogers and bell got froyo months before att. maybe ATT wants to make sure all the features it wants disabled are in working like wifi hotspot?
True. Im already regretting buying my Atrix, too late to return it though. But also Motorola was asking for beta testers to sign up to test 2.3.

Looks like this is for unbranded galaxy s phones though. In the US it takes longer cause the carriers are modding the OS to add all their useless bloatware crappola an it's usually the carrier that pushes the updates not the manufacturer. But hopefully with the update to enable hsupa we get a couple of extra goodies.

it makes sense that the phone that's been out for a year gets it first....
since google released the 2.3 source code, the company has been doing nothing but preparing an update most likely. motorola however, needed to iron out kinks in their initial 2.2 release before they can consider developing a 2.3 OS, and then allowing carriers to modify it to your liking.
obviously you didn't think about what has to be done to come up with a polished 2.3 update before it can be released as an official OTA update. you really can't fault motorola for this not being out yet. it takes a lot of time, testing, and effort to release a finished product.
Raybond, I agree with everything you said, but its hard to cut Motorola any slack for this when the phone should have come with 2.3 in the first place. On top of that they lock the bootloader so we cant get 2.3 working on our own either....

well, the problem is that they probably started dev for the atrix's OS before 2.3 was released, so it would have been even more work, and probably would have caused delays in their release of the phone if they had shipped it with 2.3
I know locked bootloader is a massive drag for 3rd party dev, but you really can't fault moto for any decisions they've made with this phone other than that.

actually you're not skipping honeycomb....
honeycomb is a totally different series in Android OS, tablet-specific series to be precise (3.0)
So, gingerbread is 2.3, and ICS is 2.4. Also, rumour has it that ICS will have full dual-core support, so it would make logical sense for Moto to not waste any time with 2.3 and go straight for dev in 2.4

ice creme sandwich is a blend features of both gingerbread and honeycomb made specifically for phones. you will not be seeing honeycomb on an android phone backed by google. that one reason google is not releasing honeycomb source yet, they dont want to have honeycomb phones out there.

international version had an ICS leak ages ago. sammobile had the i9220 leak and then made an n7000 version of it, this was like a month or so ago?
and whilst the att version is functional, its not without bugs. its also missing the much anticipated premium suite.
While technically he is right there has been no leak for the n7000 just the i9220. Doesn't matter really because no phone comes close to this bad boy even without ICS..

ahaha the day after i sold my samsung infuse gb was release for it
Simple answer.
ICS on N7000 should be easier for them.
AT&T Note: Had to be modified for faster internet access so users can hit their cap faster.
China's i9220 and Intl N7000 should be about the same thing and easier todo.
And leak are just leaks, who knows how someone got access to that? Maybe we already have a fully perfect ROM for N7000 and Samsung still working out to provide roms for AT&T so ICS update can be a global thing.
Could care less
What does ICS bring to the table, other than hardware acceleration,
probably some newer apps.
The current version of GB 2.3.6 runs on my note like greased lightning.
You know good & well when ICS is released for any device, it's going to have
some of the same growing pains that GB did when it was released.
Since my Note is my business connection device, I think I'll hold off on jumping
onto the ICS bandwagon, until I know for sure it's ROCK SOLID stable.
I don't have time dealing with bugs. Thanks to you bleeding heart types though.
If it wasn't for you, we'd never be anywhere, but, I can't afford to have the
device lock up, slow down, crash etc.
