I used the NVflash root method from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125714, but when I tried to update CWM from v3.0.2.8 to v3.1.0.1 it can't mount the sdcard. Every solution I've seen says that you need to format the sdcard but I can't format it using Windows because it views it as a media device and I can't format it from CWM because it needs to mount it to format it. Any ideas on how I can get it working? Or should I try flashing roms by another method?
Pic shows all the different things I've tried and the messages that it produced.
take a micro sd card and put it in
go into recovery and go down to advanced
repartition the micro sd card
reboot
put what evere you want to flash in the micro sd card and flash
take your sdcard out and use SD Formatter 3.0 to format it. Now try re-flash the new CWM.

I repartitioned it but now I can't add anything to it. The TF can't find the card and my computer can't read it.
I formatted it, it worked. Now to get it to stop aborting the roms I'm trying to install. Thanks guys

I tried to install the hero rom and went to format the sd card with paragon but for some reason it shows my whole sd card as ext2 and I try to delete the partition and format it but it never works. Is there anyway to bring my sd back to life?
right click on the partition and resize then reclick on the unallocated side and create partion fat32

I can't do that when I try to it doesn't list the sd as an option. I just have the delete partition ioption but when I remove and re insert my sd it still reads as ext2. idk if I fried the card this sux tho it was only like 3 months old..
Download gparted and boot into that.
Was having similar problems with my sd card. In order to get it to work I used the recovery cd in paragon and it finally read it correctly which allowed me to format it. The recovery cd is provided in paragon. Just go to the "Boot and Rescue" section and follow the steps to create one. Then just restart your computer with it in your dvd drive and it wil automatically boot to it, unless you have that changed for some odd reason.
And the sd card must be in a card reader other than the g1 (a usb reader will work). It just won't mount correctly through the recovery disc of you use your phone

Ah, C'mon, please search the forums:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=913815
grab the partition manager from there and repartition your sd card and you are back to bussines.
this will work
download Attach Files and this should work then right click on card and format again fat 32 quick plz give me thank this will work
Also, you can format your sd card from android itself. Go to settings, unmount your sd card and format it. Easiest way.
If you have a custom rom you can format the partitions from the recovery menu too
im really confused so i want to unmount it plug in the usb and use window formatter to reformat is?
Flashed my a500 several times. Decided to go back to taboonay. In recovery I decided to clean everything. I formatted everything that had an option to format including SD. I thought that was the internal however I was wrong and lost all my backups and roms. No problem I thought, went to my desktop put the new rom on sd card the reinstalled in my device.
OK the problem: It will not flash the rom because recovery can nolonger mount my sd card. I've tried other sd cards formated fat.
Any ideas?

and did those other cards work?
sorry
No, other sd cards did not work. So what I have is a tab that when turned on goes strait to acer logo and loads nothing. I can however open to recovery however it will not mount the sd card. Also, it is not recognized when plugged in to my dell.
Solved
Ok, after reading this thead
I found that yes formating the sd card in either windows or linux will not work. Using my android phone to format the card works. It is now mountable. However I still could not flash directly to taboonay as I wished, but following this thread
- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1276227 -
got me up and going again.
Put the rom on a thumbdrive. Plug the thumb drive in. Turn it on to boot to recovery. It should let you install from zip without having to mount. Works for me.
So i went to flash a ROM and now it says while flashing that the flash was aborted because the system can't mount the SD card. I'm using the newest CWM and have flashed stuff before. Not sure what to do, it wont let me make backups, restore, or flash anything.
I find it kinda strange, because once I reboot my tablet, everything's working fine, but it's not letting me install a custom rom
And yes, I have...
1. Unlocked by booloader.
2. Rooted my phone along with installing superuser.
3. Installed CWM recovery through fastboot (or whatever it's called, lol)
Has anyone gone through the same thing?
Bump....
Cm on guys I really need to get this rolling ...
What class SD Card are you using? I have issues with CWM on this Tablet reading anything above a class 6. I have a Class 10 SD Card that I have to swap Out and put in a different slower class card to flash roms and what not so I personally have had to deal with this because of the speed. Anyway hope that helps you out.
I'll try another sd card and see if it work out. Thanks for the advice!!
Bump. Using a different SD card didn't work, unfortunately

Back up all ur SD card files to PC
In CWM, you will find a Advance/ partition Sd card
Use this and make a 128 mb one, Reboot to CWM and CWM will recognize your card.

thank you very much....really helpful
Please help me i have a similar problem. I tried to partition it and it worked but it wouldnt recognize my sd card. Idk what happened maybe i formatted by mistake and now i dont have a system (or atleast it wouldnt boot up) and i have a cwm that doesnt mount recovery so i cant flash.
please someone help me! i need my phone
FIXED!
Nevermind. I did it wrong. U were supposed to partition sd card make it 128-128 and then while still in advanced setting restart launcher. Then you have to go to mount the card manually through mounts and storage.
if you just shut down the device it wouldnt work.
thank you for helping me fix this demonntl
Hi,
I got a Galaxy Y from a friend and I was trying to MOD it. I discovered that the internal SD is not available... and no way to get it back. I tried to wipe data, hard reset, stock firmware upload with ODIN but no way to get the internal SD back. I tried ADB in order to try to push the ZIP files in a ROM folder but of course no permissions as it's not rooted.
So, no way to root my mobile without copying the files to the SD?
Thanks in advance
Joe
I dont know what you mean by internal sd - galaxy y 5360/6102 doesnt have internal sd - it uses a mico sd card to which you will find the slot if you take the cover off and look on the right hand side of the phone
place any files you want on the sd card either via card reader or usb cable
please note that questions should be asked in the question and answer section and NOT the general section

Thanks Marcus,
I did not know the mobile had no internal SD.
That's the kind of information that saves a lots of time and work!
Thanks again.

Ok,
I tried to use a Miscro SD on the GT-S5360 but there was no way to have it acccepted by the phone.
I formatted the Micro SD (Sandisk 2G) in many ways (full formatting) and it was mounted OK with all my other phones (Galaxy S, LG L5II, Huawei) but not for the Galaxy Y. I tried to format the card with the other Samsung too but it did not work..
I've read a lot around about the "blank SD" issue on many mobiles and tried some of the suggested tricks but with no luck.
So, assuming there is no way to have a MicroSD installed on the phone, I resume the original question:
- Is there any way to root the GT-S5630 without an SD card?
Thanks in advance
Joe
well unless your sd card slot is damaged there should be no reason why it shouldnt work
the sd card needs to be formatted in fat32
there best way to do it is to inset your sd card into your phone
goto phone settings
storage
unmount sd card (sd must be unmounted before you can format it)
format sd card
you can also format it via your pc using a card reader as long as its fat32 but its best to format it using the phone or format it again using the phone as sometimes cwm may have problems mounting the sd card if you use something else to format it
You might find universal root tools via google but the quickest most simple way is just to use a root zip file and flash it in recovery or cwm

Thanks Marcus, your replies are very quick .
I tried formatting the SD card FAT32 with different Allocation unit sizes, always full formatting, never quick.
The SD card is recognized as BLANK SD CARD (or unsupported filesystem) when inserted with the phone ON. The same occurs when I switch ON the phone with the SD card alredy inserted. The card is never mounted
The internal formatting functionality of the phone seems to be not working at all. The function FORMAT SD CARD is enabled but when launched it lasts just few seconds and nothing happens (the card is not mounted neither automatically nor by hand).
There could be some compatibility issues between the card and the phone and it could be worth to buy another SD to test the phone card reader again, but I'm not confident it will work.
Phone specs
Android Version: 2.3.6
Baseband: S5360XXMC2
Kernel version: 2.6.35.7
Build number: GINGERBREAD.XXMI1
Thanks again

allocation unit size is I think 16 kilobytes but just select default - quick format is fine if the card is not damaged
you can try using mini tool to delete the partition on the sd card and create a new one and format it to fat32
you can then try reformatting it on your phone after
Mini Tool Download

Thanks for your help Marcus,
I tried MiniTool, with both FAT and FAT32 (the card is a 2GB card) but the result is still the same: BLANK SD CARD.
I will try to buy a new one tomorrow and see if it makes any difference...
Thanks again

Ok I got a new MicroSD today and everything seems to work fine.
Thanks again Marcus.
