Today I was listening to music on my X8, and suddenly he makes a strange noise and the music stops playing, then it does not play any sound, the speaker seems to be silent ...
Now I installed the stock ROM (I was using the ROM MiniCM 1.0.1), and the sound plays, but very low and distorted, it seems that the speaker is blown but not really as much as a blown...
Is my speaker went into short-circuited?
Thanks in advance!

Maybe the speaker has burned in. Take back your phone where you bought it, the guarantee will be ok. Maybe they give you a newer X8.

Thanks for the quick reply mate!
This problem may have occurred because of MiniCM ROM?
I've been noticing that she has a high sound, which may have damaged my phone ..
Is it the fault of MiniCM ROM?
I don't think its because of any custom ROM, but it is because a too big output power, e.g. Watt. Have you used equalizer or the DSP plugin? Because if you set it to a high value, it can damage the speaker. BTW there was another person here whose speaker has been destroyed too. As I see X8 has got a really loud and good quality speaker at default, but because of this it can be easily harmed.
Sent from my X8 using XDA App
No, I did not use the DSP Manager because I had this fear of burning the speaker ... so I did not want to risk ...
I believe it was the sound setting of the ROM, because I noticed that the sound is louder than the other ROM ...
Anyway, I am grateful for your help, I'll take my x8 where I bought because it is still under warranty ...
I even wondered if anyone else has experienced this problem, and if it was because of MiniCM ... I think it was that originated the problem ...
Thanks Man!
I have the same problem. The installed rom was gingerdx, but i think that was a phone problem. Now my phone is under warranty.

my speaker too got blown yesterday , i was watching this youtube video and then the speaker just went silent , flashed the stock rom and kernel via seus still no sound from speaker at all !

hey you guys can't claim for warranties as you rooted and installed custom roms or am I wrong ?
this is a big reason I don't use custom ROMS, they are still buggy here and there even after updates.

Yeah, sure, but one thing is missing:
They can't do anything if original ROM has been reinstalled, even if they know it, because using SEUS is NOT break the warranty, and they can't see nothing else just that when was the ROM istalled (they can't see if you once installed another ROM or unlocked bootloader)

I'm running DamageControl on my HTC Hero (Sprint) and all of a sudden my ear speaker sounds like its blown! I have never had it on max volume because I have excellent hearing and don't need it that high. Also when I talk I can hear myself echo through it. It sounds TERRIBLE.
What could have happened? Going to do a nandroid and restore Fresh 2.0b2 and see if its still happening.....
JUST A NOTE: DAMAGECONTROL DID NOT CAUSE THIS TO HAPPEN TO MY HERO. I AM ONLY NOTING THAT I AM RUNNING DAMAGECONTROL, NOT THAT IT BLEW MY SPEAKER

might be the hardware...you should be able to exchange at sprint store.warranty.
http://androidforums.com/sprint-htc-hero/17137-speaker-blown.html
Well, I guess there is my answer. I bought the phone from Radio Shack, will this be an issue when taking it to a sprint store?
depend, after 30 days you can bring into sprint(with TEP much easy/less hassle)before 30 days you can bring back to the shack...i exchanged mine all the time.i have insurance which took care of everything.Mostlikely if tech at sprint cant fix it(most likely they wont fix it) then they will order you a new one....good luck.
Flashed back to Fresh 2.0b2 and still had problem, used my air compressor and blew the crap out of the speaker, tada it works. I'll hit up the Sprint store tomorrow though.
QUESTION:: I should probably revert my phone to stock eh? How would I go about doing this WITHOUT RUNNING THE RUU...That is a scary bastard to run after the other threads around here.

You could revert back to the nandroid you should have made right after you rooted but before you flashed any roms. I highly doubt that sprint is going to check deep enough into your phone to realize that it is rooted. If they take it and give you a new one they will fix it, wipe the old OS, flash the stock 1.5 rom, and push it out their door to the next person that needs a warranty replacement.

Well, thing is I made that nandroid backup, and then I accidentally flashed my SD card, so I have no original 1.5 backup (heh whoopsies?) that was back when I was super noob....sooooooooo flying by the seat of my pants here. BUT GOOD NEWS IS 2.1 IS SO FREAKING FAST AND STABLE IT MAKES MY PHONE A SEXY MAN BEAST AND WHY WOULDN'T SPRINT WANT A SEXY MAN BEAST PHONE I MEAN COME ON?!
I'll give it back to them running Android Home with Live Wallpaper turned on. Really make them go "....Huh?"
Nah, I'll wait for it to fritz again and flash the first decent looking 1.5 rom I can find.
I have this same issue, and it did not start until I did flash Damage as a matter of fact. I thought I was making it up and being too OCD. Hey dude, after you RUU back to stock let us know if the problem still exist.

I just blew it out with an air compressor, 60lbs pressure output, and it fixed it. Went back to DamageControl rom and everything is ok so far. Maybe the software on the rom outputs too much to the ear speaker? Maybe the Nexus One has an earpiece speaker able to handle louder noise? I don't know... Being a nix core, you can easily put too much power to something....
Somebody correct me if I am wrong?
I have heard that dust gets in the speaker and clogs it up. Saw a thread on Sprint a while back. I had the same thing happen to my phone and they replaced it no problem. That was before 2.1, so I doubt the OS has anything to do with it. Again, probably dust, the speaker does have a lot of open surface...
This has nothing to do with the 2.1 ROM. Me and many others had the same issue while running stock firmware. I got a brand new hardware v.2 Hero out of it.

I took mine in to a Sprint repair center, they verified the speaker had an issue and they placed an order for a new handset. It came in 24 hours later and we swapped my broken unit in for a brand new one.
I bought this phone directly through Sprint online, not sure if that matters. The whole transaction was smooth for me.

replaced the speaker or the whole phone?
If anything, DamageControl1 seems to handle loud audio better than the stock 1.5 Sprint ROM did. I have a few mp3 files I put on my phone to use as possible ringtones with RingDroid that sounded too bad to use with 1.5, but actually sound quite good now under DC1.
Theory #1: 1.5 rendered the mp3 to pwm without regard to the nonlinear frequency response of the phone's electrostatic speaker. 2.1 runs it through a DSP companding altorithm to concentrate the sound's volume in the bands the speaker can reproduce well, and attenuates bands the speaker can't handle well. Net result: louder perceived output with fewer artifacts.
Theory #2 -- 1.5 did a hack job on the audio before sending it to the speaker, and arbitrarily clipped it to some max ordered by Sprint's upper management or legal department, whereas 2.1 either goes out of its way to properly compress the dynamic range, or (being open source, and having its kernel parameters dictated by concerns of audio fidelity rather than paranoid theories of legal risk) simply doesn't care, and sends the rendered audio straight to the speaker without further mangling
I'm assuming that both ROMs do mp3->PWM entirely via software, and the Hero has hardware codecs only for hardcore things, like video (and even then, only for things like the acceleration of inverse discrete cosine transformations).
Has anyone hacked the kernel, hardware to make this phone useable.......I'm missing so many calls ?

Without a kernel that gives a volume boost I find most of the times myself in a situation where I can't hear the person when on a call. With the new kernel (thanks Lee ) it's how it should be, I'm happy
I've been using this rom for a month now, and I've noticed that it tends to get a bit laggier every day. At first it was blazing fast but now it's as slow as the original rom. I also suddenly started having a problem with my earpiece speaker crackling.
To fix this I've done the Pull-out-Battery reset. It's helped with speed but the earpiece is still crackling terribly.
To solve the earpiece issue I've turned my in-call volume down to very low and the crackling is a lot less worse.
I just wanted to post a review and a few small things that have been a bit buggy for me with this rom.
Overall I really like it and I can live with battery-resetting my phone every once in a while, but I'm disappointed in the speaker damage.
If they can fix whatever is damaging the speaker I'd say this is a great ROM.

xloud has bad news written all over it
Though the Wolfbreak Rom does come with xloud, I have it disabled.
I have to wonder why it is still included in the rom though, I seem to understand it's fairly well documented to cause speaker issues so I would have thought it would be removed from all roms by now.
i hv v6 WB but it doesnt have xloud preinstalled.
u have to flash it if u want ...
Mind you, even though WB can work wonders with any roms he produces its still based off a SE firmware which can never be truly faster than anything AOSP.
At least in my experience.

I flashed several things like xLoud + Bravia; battery mod from kitchen; different fonts; different lockscreens ...etc. I hear some people do have issues though, mainly the loss of contacts when the phone shuts itself down (which i think is due to a locked bootloader-not sure). Maybe i'm blessed with a good device/battery . I absolutely love this rom So big big THANK YOU 2 WOLF. Peace.

Anyone else notice this glitch?
My Nexus 7 is really hard to hear, the volume is really low. I have searched threads and have seen people talking about their speaker crackling and stuff like that but mine is just really quiet and it happened after I restored the original image.
It was a normal volume prior and now I cannot seem to get any decent volume out of it. Does anyone have any pointers at all?
It is frustrating me that it will not go very loud now and I would deal with it had it always been like that but it is definitely quieter than it was.
Are their any Roms/Kernels that may increase volume at all as well?
Matt
Hi mate,
If you've just re-flashed the stock image and the speaker went quiet, then the best thing you could do is to try it again. Or you could try any custom ROM to see if the volume return to normal.
You might just have been really unlucky that the speaker has blown around the time that you re installed it. In which case, i'd recommend that ASUS get another nexus 7 back............. Yeah, i know it means a lot of messing about, but it might be the only way :good:

I reflashed it back to stock again and it seems a bit louder, not overly loud but a definite improvement. (I am led to believe that the Nexus 7 is a quite tablet anyway so wont swap it over!)

Easy to test, go to a very quiet room. Really quiet. Put your phone to your ear while screen off and listen. (Not phone off)
You will hear a faint sound, static, cracking well some kind of noise.
This is nothing new, and not just bound to this phone. However I had this issues only on the Nexus 4 and never noticed it on other phones I had.
It becomes a bit annoying while in call, really quiet room, and every pause, when both parties are not talking.
I think only option is learn to live with it? As if the numerous threads from N4 and other devices are true, this is a HW fault on all devices. Some ppl just do not hear it. What varies is the intensity, which ppl reported that exchanged their devices.
Is there someone on some variant not hearing it? (State your age as well)
Is there someone who exchanged their device based on this problem and got a new one with a different level of the noise?
Mine is international LG D802

The sound that you experience, since its through your BT as well, might be normal connection/call sounds. I have this really on all phones even sometimes on iPhone. But if its something tha tyou do not expect to hear, and have it constantly , bring it for repairs, I do not have somehting out of the ordinary in the calls, except what I described in the OP.
What I mean its really like static electricity, cracking sounds. But its faint, you won't notice it in normal environment, at least not when you do not know what to look for. There are youtube videos for the N4 with the sound I mean. cant listen to it now, as I am at work but I think something like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9wOxtzStUZ4
you really need a quiet environment, put your ear to the earpiece.
Also thanks for your post!
I am on ATT and noticed this and I was thinking about returning it but I tested the display model at the ATT store and the same thing. I tested an Iphone 4s and the same thing with the earpiece. I think this is more common than people think because you really have to be in a quiet setting to actually hear it. Thanks

My ears or better brain adjusted... same way you adjust to every annoying sound after a while. It is there... but you stop caring - hearing it.
I do not believe there is a software fix. If your problem is the one that I described, new hw might help.
But as I said. I adjusted ...
Definitely seems to be hardware problem. If I knew about it earlier I would never connect headphones and charger at the same time. Symptoms: static noise @ approx. 120bpm from both speakers, while phone in deep sleep.
Tried uninstalling v4a drivers, app, poweramp, flashing different kernels, clearing caches, and what so not.
I don't want to raise hope, but I found temporary workaround. I'm on stock kk, and I use g2 tweaksbox and gravitybox to get statusbar aosp quicksetting tiles. There is a compass tile. If I leave it ON there is no more noise. At first I thought that maybe this prevents phone from deep sleeping, but bbs is showing that phone sleeps well. Have not tested standby battery impact yet.

Hi,
Thanks for the remainder, as I noticed latest @dorimanx kernel eliminates this (from v 8) and my itchy fingers installed Viper4Android again and yes I struck my luck the distortion starts again...
My conclusion is an option between have better audio performance in mid to high volume level. But, lived my days with G2 enjoying the distort...
Or uninstall everything about viper4android and listen to flat music beat...
And I choose ingore the distort and drive away with awesome audio performance in my bluetooth car audio....
Cheers,
Hey, do you have xposed? I noticed that if I enable compass in quicktiles, there will be no more crackling. But I'm not sure about battery. So I use this when it's quite, in the evening, and I start hearing cracks, I just turn on compass.
