I'm not sure if this has been mentioned before, but Google Music Beta works outside of the US. All that's required is a US proxy to request a invite, once you get it and activated your account for Music Beta, it works no matter where you are.
This is true.
Working fine over bell hspa / canadian ip addressing / canadian google acct
Initial invite from US Ip
Using it in the UK fine, signed up with a US proxy
Signed up while living in the US, moved to Holland in the mean time and it works fine.
I just hope I live long enough to upload all of my music.
I got the invite today. I live in Belgium - when visiting market thru browser, says the app is not compatible with either my TF or my Samsung Galaxy S2. However, the music plays fine in the browser - even the TF.
yeah , it works in spain too, tested on my transformer, sgs-II, my wife's o2x and my old N1. I used a vpn with us IP address to signup for the invite and loaded the apk outside the market
Another happy camper here works great on tablet & nexus S.
Not sure o2 are quite as happy though
It's working for me, too. At least via the website and my Nexus One, I can't make the Transformer sync with it or display my music from Google Music. Settings aren't showing anything helpful. Any ideas on that? Did it just work on your Transformers?
What site do you use to give you a us ip?

For me, work is a US IP, so the invite suceeded. After that any network will do.
I've heard Starbucks are US as well, so you could try the invite there.

I get "We're sorry. Music Beta is currently only available in the United States"
Maybe it's because I signed up for it when it was announced at IO conference?
I used my proxy to send myself an invitation, but the page said that they will notify me when it's ready.
Also, for those who want a US ip you can use my proxy. (Link in my signature.)
I won't steal your password, but for your own safety change it first, use proxy and then change back after you are done.

From this BBC blog, the new iplayer mobile site for android has been released and uses Flash to deliver its content. It says you need Froyo 2.2 and Flash installed, then just goto iplayer site.
But has anyone managed to get it working, mine just constantly tries to load the video.
Every video I tried failed to load - can't remember the error message now. On wifi too.
Still bookmarked it though.

Doesn't that kind of defeat the object of it? The mobile stream is a 400kbps optimized stream which should look a LOT better than a non-optimised stream through the full site.
It works now!!

Because its paid for by our TV licenses, ie its not free.
I get the error saying that I should use Wifi to access the service as 3G is limited to Vodafone and 3 only. Except my phone IS connected to Vodafone.
Will try with Wifi when I get home.
Yep, same problem.
Wifi fine, Voda 3G = no go.
works a treat now over wifi!
I'm just getting the normal desktop site when I go to the following URL, is there a special one?
http://beta.bbc.co.uk/iplayer
yup and our tv fee's are going up year on year so the rest of the world can get a cheap proxy and watch for free surely this is theft same as stealing cable etc.
I think the bbc's corporate arm should have a paid version of iplayer for use outside the uk, i dont think UK residents should pay for other countries to use it.
just a personal annoyance of mine.
or better still get rid of the f*cking fee's altogether

It doesn't show up BBC Radio Scotland and BBC Radio Ulster either, and there's no live service.
Hi, I am not sure if this is the right place to ask this question, but here it is anyway. My brother has gmail and so do I. He has Motorola Droid whereas I have x10. In gmail he has option to make phone calls and I don't. Not sure why? Does it has something to do with the phones we are using or something else?
thanks

The update of 2.1 will be here in our life time!!
I am gussing it's Google Voice.
No, its gmail phone call not google voice.
It works for me (in Canada), try going to this link and installing the voice plugin, then see if you can do it...
http://www.google.com/chat/voice/
I don't understand why this works in Canada, while Google Voice doesn't...
Edit:
I tried it in the morning on the office computer and after installing it didn't come up. I just did it and it worked at home's computer.
I thought you meant at first that you have it on your phone..
You are probably referring to this: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2010/08/25/MNGI1F37PS.DTL
Google announced yesterday that people can now make phone calls from within Gmail (not Google Talk). I think this only works in USA and Canada, and maybe also a 2.1/2.2 feature.

I called my cellphone from Gmail on my laptop this morning. I'm in Ottawa, so either Canada's been annexed by the U.S without anyone knowing D) , or it works for Canadian clients.
No idea how to get it to work on my X10 though. The link posted by chris_knows seems to download a Windows client plugin (or at least it does in xScope Browser), not something that can be installed onto Android.

It works for me too...but when I try calling myself, it gives me a California area code, so I think I'm just gonna stick to calling land lines haha.
But for the X10, my understanding is that it can only be done through Google Voice, which is only available in the U.S.
Works in Canada from the desktop same as Skype does. This is not Google Voice.
Since the Google Voice app is available in the Canadian app market though (don't know why) you could try going to the Google Voice webpage and creating an account if you use a VPN with a US server. That's how I got my Sipgate account.

Again, all the articles state it's only available in the US, but I (and others) have used it here in Canada (though as chris_knows states, it gives a US phone number as your source number).
Anyone know if users in the US have any way to make such calls via their Android phone, or is it purely desktop-based at the moment?

I came across this video on youtube and this guys seems to be running a t-mobile tab using voice+3g (i think, not sure if that's what he means): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZ4EDRLaILk
Of course he just shows off the tab running web and dialing while on H/3G, he does not explain how he got it done. I went ahead and sent him a message asking how he did it. My guess is that he is running google voice not sure, if anyone else is running google voice and is exactly as this guys is showing off please advise.
Did not want to get anybodies hopes up, just found it interesting. Lets see what he says if he replies.
Thanks for the pointer. I remember that video from a while back, like November. I think he is using a voip application, not the dialer.apk, but I could be wrong.
I just got a report from a member in China who gets voice +3g data with one modem. He is using a tab he purchased in Chicago, and a China Unicom sim. Someone in Isreal said they do too, but I didn't get the sim provider.
Bottom line - it's possible, just not in the US with T-Mobile tab and sim.

Not seems to be a VOIP App... don't know!
But I just put a GUIDE of how to place and receive calls on your GT via VOIP using your Google Voice account. Also you could Forward the Call on settings to your SIP# so if you place your SIM on your tab and you could get Forwarded the Call to your SIP# and it will enter via VoIP!
It's a great solution until we get another solution!

Guys I got a Skype update for my Transformer via Android Market and it sort of looks like a tablet app. High resolution graphics and stuff, you know. Also, it mentioned video calling on start up, I think - but I couldn't figure out how to use it. This is definately coming, give it a few more days
Skype almost worked
I downloaded and installed Skype awhile ago and was able to create an account but then it said it was unable to connect me to the network
Dunno why it wouldn't connect to my wi-fi network ... but it was exciting for a few minutes when it looked like it was going to work. After creating an account it went into connecting mode and until the error message popped up about not being able to connect it looked like it was going to work.
So close ... it almost made it. Perhaps it would work for someone on Verizon.
So far the only device added to the list of compatible devices is the Nexus S 4g. Not a single tablet.

Skype with video chat for the thunderbolt was leaked like 3 months ago. I'm surprised it wasnt released during the official launch especially since the Thunderbolt was the first device skype with video was supposed to launch on.

Be aware that Skype is based upon a distributed network. This means that when you are connected to Skype your computer is part of their network and can/will be used to connect other users together without asking your permission.
Quite possibly phones and tablets are less than ideal mechanisms to be integral parts of their sharing network.
I have uninstalled Skype from my computers to prevent this indiscriminate use.

Not quite accurate. Skype has a distributed network of supernodes, true. It is also true that supernodes are regular skype clients (much as bit torrent and other p2p networks are). It is not true that all clients are supernodes. Only clients on public addresses not behind a proxy are eligible as supernodes. Android clients are not eligible (skype does not have root privileges and can not open a port on 80 and 443), nor are clients behind a NAT.
Feel free to not use the service, but do not do so based on a misunderstanding out how skype works.
EDIT: explained in greater detail why android in specific can not act as a supernode. (Discounting the fact that supernodes are chosen based on cpu power and bandwidth, making its selection unlikely even if it were possible.)

anyone bring a nexus 7 outside the US yet? i have read that books/magazines/music dont work. but with the nexus 7 being wifi only... i have a few questions:
1. do these features disappear like they do on phones? i have a galaxy nexus. non-us apps disappear from the app launcher if you dont have a US sim card. can you at least access the free bundled content when it detects that you dont have a US ip?
2. can you connect to a wireless VPN service and access those blocked services? can you buy stuff with a non-US credit card? i was able to buy blocked content before with my non-US credit card... but through the play web version and a VPN service... i cant seem to buy books anymore. not sure if this is the same with the nexus 7
3. are there any non-root apps that allows the nexus 7 to get a US ip address just by connecting to any wifi hotspot?
im sure there are a lot more questions from non-US pre-orderers of the nexus 7. hope this thread helps us.
Wrong section, this belongs in the Questions section.
I'm wondering this too, except I am willing to root for for these features.
Yep, Questions go in the Q&A section
