[Q] After rooting wildfire - Wildfire General

Hi guys
So we all know how to rooting wilfire, thks to AlphaRev X and others developers, but here's the question...and i've searched and i need some guidance if you please.
I dont know wich custom rom i will chose...first if its one of 2.3 (aosp or sense) or 2.2 in the same way.
By the things i've read, some have some issues like, dont have gps, wifi etc...others are not so clear what they have working and not working.
So if you could help me on this matter, would be appreciated (and others users like me would appreciated too)
Thks cheers up

You have probably read about CM, with its not working GPS and WiFi. Well, GPS works after reflashing the Radio, and, WiFi seems to have some issues with some particular channels. Changing channels helps.
Anyway, I would recommend you give a try to CM7. I have switched from Sense based ROM's, and I love the pure Android experience offered by CM7. If, after installing, you find the bugs are too hard to live by, or, Stock Android doesnt suit you (like the dialer, camera app etc.) you can always switch to a Sense based ROM, or some other. There is a lot of choice.

thks for the advise
but i did lot of reading on the forum, mostly of the failures are from the last year, hope that some had been update but i still have some reserves and i dont find any sure, about, 3G/EDGE/WIFI/GPS/CAMERA and others things even on the site wont say what will work for sure, and what might wont work....and a realy want to something with this phone, but i dont want to something that i might regret lol

will i need to do hot fixes before i flash new rom

hi im new to htc phones and to the forum so please be gentle
i have an htc touch hd coming on thursday so im now gathering apps games etc to install on it but plan on flashing it to the latest version of miri 6.5 v 13 as i was told its a good rom to flash too........ is it ??
before i do a flash is there any recommended hot fixes from the htc.com website i should install and do i need do them before or after i update to version6.5. ?
and if someone can advise me is there any software i can install to limit my mobile internet usage ?
thanks
when you do a hotfix, it just adds some new stuff (or fixes old stuff) in the ROM. If you were to do a hard reset, you'd have to apply the hotfixes again. Changing a ROM does far more than a hard reset, since it wipes all the data on the phone (almost all, some things like SPL remain). Therefore doing a hotfix right before a hard reset or flashing a ROM wouldn't do anything since you'd have to reapply it right afterwards.
However, you should not have to apply the hotfix at all, since all most all cooked roms already have all htc hot fixes applied or atleast the ones that work and help =). I've never used miri's roms, but I'm pretty sure that she applies the hotfixes since her ROMs are mainstream.
As for your second question, not really sure what you're asking. Do you want a software that will stop using data once you reach a certain cap (like 100MB)? Or do you want software that stops using data when you don't want it to?
thanks your reply has cleared up what i wanted to know so thanks for your time replying .
my second question was meant to mean is there some software that will cap my internet data usage at a certain amount like 1oomb. i think i have 250mb allowance and i dont want to go over that at all
thank you
sorry i meant to ask what are the best roms to use for 6.5 is there a preferred one by most people .
I would never say that there are some 'best' or ROMs or ones that are better than others as that would be disrespectful to the cooks that spend a lot of time and hard work cooking them. Certain ROMs are meant to do certain things and others are meant to ommit things and there's also 'clean' ROMs and 'feature rich' ROMs. It all depends on what you need. If you're looking for a 'mainstream' ROM, I would reccomend going to the ROM section and looking through the ROM threads which have the most posts/views.
As for software that caps your bandwidth, it certainly sounds feasible, but I haven't seen/used it so I can't help you there too much. There is, however, plenty of software that lets you monitor your data usage, and then you could just turn off the data once you get to a certain amount.
maybe i should of rephrased my wording and not made it sound likes whos rom is better than another persons rom. it wasnt meant to sound disrespectful
i think what im looking for at the moment is what you say a clean rom. basically my touch hd arrives in the morning and for the moment until i get used to all this flashing and different radios (watever they are ) i just will want to get rid of the orange branding and have my touch like as if it was bought from htc.com
but before i do any of that i think my 1st task should be to run the boot loader and get my orange uk rom version from the phone and look on here for a back up of it . just in case i make some mistakes
cheers

Hermes stock rom

well, since i've figured out that no custom rom works for me because my hermes keeps freezing a few times a day i've decided to go back to the stock rom. so what i was wondering if i need a specific rom or i can just take any?
Could be a software conflict if you are using "core" apps... I tend to but found that some apps freeze everything as soon as they're loaded & finally got my essentials through trial and error. Seem to work well now with most roms, though there have been a few crashes. Up to you to decide, find another app that works or ditch the rom....
Some roms, and remember these are mainly test roms, also cause freezes and conflicts. These are made for us by the chefs, but remember, its a hobby for them. Sometimes the builds have to revised a few times before they become stable. The chefs do an awesome job though and do try to help if you have problems. Read through the later posts as they may have solutions.
As for the Stock rom, depends on who your carrier is, if its still on THEIR site or is somewhere on XDA... Could be difficult to find...
Just remember though just because your carrier loaded their rom, they are still subject to the same problems too....
Cheers...
Dude,
Just as a point of reference, I was having some minor issues with my ROM, and I've now tried this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=387990
Which is awesome!
Very basic, very simple, and you can load whatever you want onto it.
I'm more than happy with this, after 48hrs worth of using, and think this is the one for me.
Try it out.
I'm on Orange UK, seeming to work for me, so it depends where you are and your network (carrier) with any other problems.
well right now i'm using josh's springtime rom and before that i used his Manilla 2D and they both kept freezing and i had to keep doing hard resets. note: i send and recieve alot of text messages so that might be why its freezing.
any ideas?
well my phone has been unlocked but my carrier is Telenor and i cant seem to find the rom.
EDIT: thanks greee, i just installed the windows you suggested and its almost identical to my old one it seems to be working fast and great

It's arrived! But need help!

Ok, so it came first thing this morning. I've spent the last few days reading up on the forum, and was wanting to flash a new rom (for the customised screens etc)
Now, I know I'm a NOOB in the biggest sense of the word when it comes to WM but some of the abbreviations in the guides are confusing me, can someone please explain them to me, or excatley what i need to be doing (just until i work my way round a bit!)
I know that there's a noobs guide, and i have read it honest, but i don't wanna be bricking it!
Pwweeease?
Make sure you have windows mobile device center installed on your pc. Connect the hd2 via usb to your computer (with the cable included with your hd2) and wait until windows mobile device center says it is connected.
To put an official rom on your hd2, download the rom and run the .exe included in the package. Follow the steps onscreen and you're done.
To put a custom rom on your hd2, you need to flash hardspl first. Steps are explained in detail here . Basically it involves connecting your hd2 to the pc, running the hardspl .exe file on your pc, and following the onscreen steps. Then that is done, and you will have to run the .exe file included in the custom rom package, and follow the onscreen steps again. To be safe you won't have any bugs, do a hard reset of your hd2 just after flashing the custom rom. Look here how to do that, it is explained at nr. 15. Pretty easy
good luck
if you make sure your hd2 battery doesn't run out (higher than 50% is usually said), and you make sure your pc doesn't shut down or do anything weird while updating, and you don't disconnect the cable while you are flashing, chances are practically 0 you will brick it.
What abbreviations are confusing you?
Cheers for the quick reply mate, i don't wanna come across as a complete knob (although i probably am already!)
TBH, it was things like hardspl and the other one, sspl or something?
If i put a customised ROM on it, is there any way of going back or is that it then?
Also, is windows 6.5.3 worth it? It's new out of the box, so have no idea whats what yet.
What, if any roms would people suggest? Also, do push notifications for twitter and facebook work? I've found already that the stock FB app that comes with it doesn't let you see people's comments on status's etc
All very confusing so far, but I'm still not reaching for the iphone back.....Yet!

best to check what you have got on the device before you start upgrading..lol
when my phone arrived most of the updates from htc were on it already..
Forget about sspl (softspl), you don't need it. Hardspl is "better" (to keep things simple)
Flashing a new rom will delete all your settings, installed programs, etc etc. So backup what you need before flashing (you can use microsoft MyPhone -which is preinstalled on hd2's- to backup certain things).
About going back, yea you can 'go back', in case you can download the rom that is currently on your hd2. It is probably official hd2 rom version 1.48, but of course i'm not sure. But i don't think you would want to go back, there is no reason to. Unless you hate new roms, but you can always find one that is undebatably better and more up to date than the rom you are using now.
Yea windows mobile 6.5.3 is nice and in some ways a little better than 6.5, but it doesn't work 100% correctly with HTC sense. There are some graphical glitches with this on 6.5.3 roms.
I prefer Dutty's 0.3a rom (here) because it is basically the same as your stock rom, but with up to date software, up to date windows mobile 6.5, updated htc sense - and everything works flawlessly for me.
Haven't tried push notifications for facebook or twitter, so can't comment on that. 6.5.3 roms have some graphical glitches with HTC sense. Many other 6.5 roms have other customizations that I don't like.
Forget about the iPhone, the hd2 baby is miles and miles better (yes i've used the iPhone).
if you need more recommendations, shoot
Cheers for that mate. I'm gonna put sprog to bed and give it a go!
You are correct in the fact that it is a stock 1.48 rom shipped on the phone, please excuse my ignorance, this is my first wm phone! I'm an expert on the iphone now though lol!
I did read about flashing with bepe's thing, is that still needed?
Hopefully i'll find some decent FB and twitter apps that does push (I'm addicted lol!)
Umm, then to sort out google activsync again!
"bepe's thing" is hardspl, which is needed only once (ever) to unlock your phone to enable flashing custom roms. So yes, you need to do it when you want to flash a custom rom.
I don't want to be a damp rag or anything but I'd personally use the phone for a week or two before installing any custom ROMs. When I received my phone it was perfect, lasted 2 days easy on one charge (with everything set to auto update) and had no camera issues. I then installed the unofficial 1.48 and now the battery struggles to get 2 days even with most auto updates turned off and the camera developed the over exposure issue. Now I regret updating it and am slightly hesitant to do it again.
Also, most custom ROMs at the moment do not have very major upgrades to them and are usually just very slightly tweaked. I'm waiting for something more worthwhile to be released (like WM6.5.3 with a fully functional Sense) before I go and HSPL my phone. Take a look at this user for an example of what might happen.
But then again I may be acting over cautious and might not be enjoying the full power and epic-ness out of my HD2.

What is unofficial 1.48? There is an official 1.48, and most unofficial custom roms are based on a higher rom version than 1.48. I think you're being a little over cautious, I have flashed practically millions of roms on HTC devices and never experienced a problem. The problems you are having with battery and camera are probably related to your custom rom choice and/or your settings.
But you're right that there isn't a world of difference between the stock rom and newest custom roms, the hd2 is a relatively new device. Still, I feel you can't go wrong by updating the rom to a good custom one, and it will be better than the stock rom. Dutty's holy grail 0.3a is my recommendation, but to each one his own.
Slow down mate!
Northerneil,
I know you are dying to get into your device and flash roms like there's no tomorrow. I say STOP, slow down, take your time.
I would get to know how your device works the way it is first. One good thing about this is that if there any hardware problems you can return the device as an exchange without having to undo loads of changes that are NOT warranty friendly.
Next, READ, READ and READ again. Flashing roms sounds quite simple and the process has improved tremendously. The problem isn't flashing a rom; its knowing how to recover if it all goes wrong. Its getting to know the pitfalls and how to get out of them e.g your device rebooting for no reason, which is a problem some serial flashers are having right now.
Welcome on board, hope you heed my advice although I appreciate you are a big boy and can do what you want. However a bricked device can take a long time to fix, even if you know what you are doing, and if you are lvery ucky.
WB
PS: Feel free to PM me if you want to know more about certain functions and abbreviations. You need to know as much as possible before you start tinkering with your device.

By "unofficial" I was referring to the 1.48 405 WWE that was available for download before HTC made it official on their website.
I am still running that "unofficial" 1.48 ROM with the stock settings so I doubt that these problems have anything to do with my settings.

[REQUEST] Fix for screen-off-issue after call

Hi @ all,
i know my thread is in a wrong place but its time to give more attention to this issue which is concerning a lot of hd2-Android users.
As you all know the htc hd2 is a smartPHONE.
It's most important function is to let us make our phone calls without any trouble!
But there's a problem:
A lot of users complain about the screen staying off after having made a phone call. It doesn't turn on unless you hold the phone in a bright light. No chance for anybody who's in a darker environment at that time. Hardware keys also don't let the screen turn on again. So often the only way to solve this problem is taking out battery and reboot.
This is REALLY annoying and ashaming for all users, i mean we have one of the greatest phones for custom roms, but we can't make a proper phone call -.-
So to sum up: There are several threads already opened, with no solution and no real end.
My wish to all the great Chefs and developers out there: Thanks for your hard efforts so far.
But PLEASE try to fix this issue. Perhaps deactivating the proximity/light sensor, or just making the phone let its screen turned on during a call might be a solution?
So many roms out there with hundreds of versions but no one works for me and many others without this issue.
PERSONALLY, i don't care if my rom has ultra-spectacular-amazing quadrant score or the latest sense 3.0 shich has still bugs.
Just a stable rom for using our hd2 as a real phone, that's what so many want, so hard to understand?
Thanks, for reading.
BTW: the hint to make the proximity/light sensor clean doesn't work, and some users don't understand the scren-off issue, i know.
screen after call
I have the opposite problem - my screen remains unlocked after phone call which is a big problem when the phone is in my pocket and i'm answering with a BT device.
I usually find the phone is some strange settings screen or some app running.

There is no "but", If its in wrong place its in wrong place.
If you have this issue its likely rom related as this isn't a wide spread general issue as I have personally never experienced it.
if you want to discuss this issue reply in the appropriate roms topic, You are not a dev and not posting dev work/reference.
uhuuhu...
NO, it's NOT rom related. I think testing about 10 of the most popular roms here is enough...
Just search for it. I said it before some people don't have this problem but there are also many others who have it.
BTW: askin in the roms section was intending to get attention as wehenever yopu aks for it in the thread of the rom no one cares.
Just sad that the most "Devs" think building a rom is just abaout making it looking cool full of unnecessary special addons and customisations...
- make the performance better here please -

Galaxy Note 7 Port- X-ROM by anggara08

UPDATE: The ROM has been updated to version 2 where lot of bugs have been fixed!
First things first:
The ROM is strictly for those who are using an unlocked N910P on a GSM SIM globally!
This ROM has been ported by @anggara08 for the Snapdragon Powered Galaxy Note 4. He is the creator of this ROM and I'm only sharing the thread link here so that N910P users (which is generally not supported by the OP of original thread) can take a look at what this ROM has to offer.
I'm in no way associated with the ROM development & all the credit for the work goes to @anggara08.
Now, let me come to the main motive of why I am creating this (or sharing this thread) here on N910P thread...
The ROM is being developed keeping in mind the F & G variants of Note 4. However, I did download the ROM on my N910P and it booted successfully. The ROM has few bugs right now like Bluetooth, Flashlight, Hot-Spot cannot be controlled by the toggles, but certain workarounds have been posted by the some users which make this ROM a must try.
So, coming directly to the procedure for flashinf it on N910P:
1. Head over the following thread & read it properly with proper concentration to save your's as well as others time to solve problems that can or could have been avoided.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/snapdragon-dev/rom-t3440223
(All credit goes to @anggara08)
2. Download all the fixes posted by OP like camera-fix, & lock-screen fix.
3. Do note that the boot-loader & the modem required is PE2 or PG1 (I have tested it on these personally). Any other version does not work like OG5, OK1, PE1,etc.
4. Take a full back-up of your current ROM.
5. Make proper wipes (system, dalvik, data, cacke, internal memory, etc).
6. Flash the downloaded X-ROM. Once the flashing is finished, the ROM will automatically boot without any prompt from the TWRP Recovery.
7. It will take a long time to boot. My suggestion is to keep the phone plugged to a charger while the process is going on so as to prevent battery drain.
There's absolutely no need of flashing any Kernel or Super-SU or anything.
Let the ROM boot first.
8. Once it boots, you'll notice that there will not be any network. For it, you have to download following data fix:
(The zip file is as an attachment at the end of this post, Credit goes to @boot_sect for posting it)
9. Boot into TWRP & flash the Data-Fix. Reboot to the ROM and the network will be there. (Note: I am a GSM SIM user so the fix worked for me. Sprint users, try this out at your own will & risk.)
10. Once the ROM is up & running, flash the respective fixes (as mentioned by me earlier & available on original thread by OP) and you'll have an amazing ROM to play with. :good:
Few suggestions & fixes by @boot_sect:
Additional Notes:
Bluetooth not turning off: Seems to be ROM issue, or at least for us T/W8s. Even without data fix it does not want to turn off...
> Temp fix: Quick and dirty way to disable bluetooth is by going into your favourite app manager (eg. Titanium Backup) and disabling "Bluetooth Share", then re-enabling when bluetooth turns off. This will keep BT turned off until you manually enable it next time (or at least, for a very long time.)
Flashlight not turning off. Most likely ROM issue as many users are experiencing this.
> Temp fix: Use "Quick Tools" in the Edge Panel to turn it off. Thanks to @justforgot to finding this workaround.
I'm not posting any screen-shots of the ROM as a dedicated video of it on N910F can be found on the original thread.
Last but not the least, If moderators find this thread useless, they are free to close it.
@Robin...Thanks for hooking us up to this and taking time for the right up.

how long we have to wait?
how long we have to wait for the first boot?..and thanks
Was able to boot it up and play with it but no go on the data for sprint. I tried manually setting apn and nothing also the screen goes dim after a while. Nevertheless it is awesome seeing this thing running and cannot wait for the geniuses to stabilize it. One awesome thing I noticed it is how little bloat it had almost no apps aside from the essentials.

It should not take more than 15-20 mins... If it does, pull out the battery (though not recommended in first place) and try again.

Did you not get the data or the network??
Also, did you flash the data-fix for the network or it was available without flashing it?
As far as the bugs are concerned, I can help you out for a work-around.
Hello,
Was anyone able to fix the screen going dim?

For these international GSM ports to work on cdma, especially our sprint variant, a LOT of work must be done in framework, csc and build.prop. no exceptions. I wish there was an easier solution but that's the only way because by default these GSM roms are setup for GSM networks. I'm working on my own S7/N5 port and this is the last thing i have to do... cell service isn't working. i am trying different ideas as time permits. I have been porting TW roms and doing this stuff for a while and i can say that there is a TON of work that has to be done to even get these new softwares to boot, let alone work fully on a different device all together. mostly hardware, driver and kernel related things which takes a huge amount of time. So you must thank these developers for theit time and patience with this stuff. It's the most difficult challenge when it comes to building out roms. It makes native custom rom building seem like a walk in the park. Trust me. LOL. We'll get it it sooner or later. give it time.

@tx_dbs_tx: You are absolutely right that each and every developer works extremely hard in order to make a ROM boot. We should be really grateful to all the developers like you who make it possible for the users like me to experience difference ROMs on our phones.
It would be really shameful on our part if we can't even thanks a developer for all the hard work that he puts in..
Also, I'm using a GSM SIM (had even contacted you some time ago regarding it, if you remember.. ) on N910P so the above mentioned ROM worked for me without any network issues. I've edited the thread to mention that It's only for those who use GSM SIM on N910P.

I must say I was not expecting to even boot at all and was surprised when it did. I totally agree with the patience, I use your roms regularly and in fact am using one as we speak and loving it. Many thanks for your time and dedication, it very much appreciated.
I am here to say a BIG thank you. This Rom is working very well, just a few bugs like the bluetooth not turning off and a few other minor things.. Keep up the great work look forward to this Rom progressing.

Cool, will have to check out. I'm also an unlocked gsm user, and am always having to tweak build prop and apn conf files to get my ROMs working properly. Not that I mind.
But cool to see something else to try. Thanks
