Thats great.
Maybe someone can port to other devices.
I hope that they'll remember all of the milestone/droid 2 users without thinking only for the new milestone 3....
I hope there will be a possibility to undo the unlock, because there could be a hardware defect and then you couldn't make use of the warranty (( in case of ms2 the keyboard is not very good...
custom rom isn't imho reason, to broke warranty, if there is hw defect. my keyboard seems fine

Yes this was suprising, hopefully all the other phones that are getting a gingerbread (gingerblur) upgrade will also get the unlocked/relocked bootloader.
Is the Milestone 2 getting one? I vaguely remember reading Q3, but cannot seem to find where I read it. Maybe it was the Droid 2 talk about it.
Guys, don't hope or wish. Keep spamming their facebook page, with specific requests to unlock, the milestone 2.
This is not the time to let them off hook.

What? Is there some closer information available on that? And how to install it? Which raises the question: How to get ClockworkMod on the MS2. On my Wildfire it came with rooting (unrevoked). As for the MS2, I have no idea...
cwm for droid 2 also works for m2
So it should work if I simply install ROM Manager and let ROM Manager then install ClockworkMod?
You can install clockworkmod for droid 2 on milo 2, as an .apk, or from market.
droid 2 already has CM7
Thanx 4 info! I just checked on the CM pages: That's not an official one but a port, is it? CM does not list the Droid 2 in "supported devices".
So I just checked what they wrote on the "original Droid". Being new to the Moto section (I was using HTC Wildfire/Buzz up to now, and still am): Is the sbf_flash utility "generic", i.e. can I use the one posted there for the Droid also use on a Milestone 2? And what about the SPRecovery used there? If not, are those files available for Milestone 2 as well (or for Droid 2, if they could be used with Milestone 2)?
As for the text I'm referring to, it's this page from the CM Wiki.
they imho use 2nd init on droid2

I remember having read something like that, yes. Looked a bit shaky to me (the usual disclamers about possible brick kept me away from that). Furthermore, if I got it right, a boot then will always end up in the recovery, and the "real boot" only takes place after chosing to exit there (which would make "scheduled boots" e.g. via Tasker, impossible). Not that I would need those frequently.
But so that means no SPRecovery here, did I get that right? And as for the sbf_flash utility, what I gather (indirectly) from my googlin it, it seems to be "generic" as it is mentioned with multiple devices. I'm just not sure; but I guess I'll ask [mbm] on IRC lateron.

In a few days, a shiny new droid x arrives at my door. I want to root and rom, take it from bloatware verizon locked efuse moto blur to as close as I can get it to pure android. I've taken a locked stock dell streak and got it where I want it, but where do I begin with a droid x? I am still pretty new to this. Please suggest.

LauncherPro.
LauncherPro.
LauncherPro.
And......
LauncherPro.
Then check out Miren Browser, Car Home, Rock Player, Nesoid, Gmote, Multicon and PowerAmp.
After accidently bricking my phone and bringing it back to life, i'd recommend that you download
RSD lite
Motorola PC drivers for the Droid X
2.3.340 sbf (original verizon image or rom)
use the above programs should you accidently brick your phone.
Others would mention that you download the android SDK, i've personally never had a need for it.
download z4root, droid x boot strapper, and finally titanium backup.
Then from there read the many available guides and have fun trying the roms till you find one that you like the best.
Yes I plan on using launcher pro and rock player , I really like them on the steak, don't care much for the mirren browser. I also plan on downloading all the tools and drivers, and backing up the stock version straight out of the box before I start jacking with the x.

Fission Rom is a good "as close to stock as possible" vanilla rom.
That looks nice, I hope its compatible with the phone. I'm going to have to do some more reading and find out what software my x ships with. I'm going to try to get it the way I want before I start putting any info on it or using it for you know, my phone. I currently use a blackberry as my phone and have had a dell streak with no carrier service, just wifi since october. So I'm hoping to take the x out of the box, root and rom, then start trying to make it my phone. Instead of the other way around. Mod first, contacts and email setup later.

I'd recommend just enjoying your phone for a full week. Get used to all the blur stuff and see if you really hate it. If you decide its not for you, then I'd suggest z4root, bootstrap recovery and then Liberty 1.5. Theres so many configurations and other things going on in that rom that to me it is by far superior. Others are good, but to me, its just a complete package. Good Luck and welcome to the X Club!!

As others have said in the thread... It's great that you want to start modding right away... but here is some advice for jumping in:
1) Your phone will come with either 2.3.15 OTA (old) or 2.3.34 OTA (latest). It just depends on whether the phone was update before being shipped out. I would recommend getting the phone, and go into Settings--> About phone --> System Updates and make sure you on are the latest update.
2) Use z4root to root the phone.
3) Install droid X bootstrap and take a backup IMMEDIATELY. So many people just jump into things and forget to take a backup and have no recovery plan in the event that they break the phone of their own accord, accidentally make a mistake, or an install fails for a ROM/theme.
If you follow these basics you should be good to go as far as jumping in head first. Good luck. Check my thread if you are looking for some pointers:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=940986
if the question you have isn't answered in there..post a question in the thread and I will get back to you with an answer.
Good luck, and enjoy
Ya' ll are awesome, thank you.

New Droid X
Hello all,
I'm in the same boat here, with a 'new' Droid X which I plan on rooting and flashing over to Cricket.
My question has to do with installing the diag mode drivers under Win7 64-bit. The 32-bit drivers don't seem to work.
Thanks for any help.
fritzel67
I was able to do it without the computer, the rooting and flashing. I don't know what cricket is, but you can root, recover and rom with just the x. I've had mine 3 days and just messed with it off and on. Read a lot on this forum and looked up some things on the internet. I will try and help if I can but I really don't know that much about it yet.

I just rooted my vzw tab and i was wondering what i have to do to put a recovery or such to install custom roms, and what is the fastest rom for the vzw tab.
Look for verizon tab bootstrapper in the market (paid), it worked for me. As far as roms in my tab I flashed the only kernel available for vrz tab. Got 1711 result in quadrant.

and this does what? sorry for the noob question but i have searched the threads and the dev section is way too out of whack to find ANYTHING useful. and I don't have money I'm poor. I saw the manual way to do what the market app does but the links provided are dead.
The kernel only makes the tab be more responsive, faster. Download quadrant from market and compare your results with mine. As far as recovery I paid for the app because it did not involved any instructions typing. The bootstrapper converts your system to ext4 and you need this to put new rom or kernel in the tab.

I'm still confused. I don't want to use the bootstrapper because a lot of people said that it bricked their tabs. what do I do to put on a recovery, flash roms, and create backups
Brick is a relative term. If the tab gets turned off and I don't know where the power button is and I can't get it back on, then relatively speaking it is a brick to me...sadly a lot of times there is a very simple way to get past a "brick" state, but then the person does something rash like flashing a random rom with repartition and now have made it much more difficult for themselves to dig out of the hole they are in.
There are a lot of people getting stuck at the samsung logo on reboot...there is good information out there to get past this, and by now it is an expected result, but that doesn't stop someone from freaking out and doing something they shouldn't.
Look for cruiserbax instruction post in the CwM thread...its right around page 49.

thanks for pointing me to that post. now I have CWM 3.0.0.0 installed. Now does anyone know of a great starter ROM that i can flash right from recovery that is real speedy? my quadrant scores are crap(1030) even on ext4.

I am running the Prime 2.1.1 ROM and it's good. I have had trouble with the Revolution HD ROM (didn't restore apps automatically, Market crashes, some apps are shown as not compatible etc.). I will wait until the first ICS ROMs come out before I try anything new (e.g. the KRAKD ROM looks promising).
So maybe i play honeycomb and wait for the ICS roms to drop then cause that works

First off, make sure that you always make a backup of what you have working on the tablet. This will save you much frustration if something goes wrong. Nandroid backups are the ones that will restore a whole ROM for you. As for backing up apps with data, you can use Titanium Backup (requires root).
The two main firsts are that you should get it rooted (very easy now) and install CWM (Clockwork Recovery Mod). CWM will allow you to flash ROMs, make backups of the ROM itself and handle various memory functions.
Read through the Stickies in the Android Dev section, they will tell you all information you need to know.
As mentioned above, if you run into any kind of issue, before you post, use the search function and see if it is something that has been asked and answered before. If you are following the steps to whatever you are doing and you get stuck, chances are good someone else has done the same thing and gotten help with it.
Another thing to note is when you choose a ROM, look through its feature list, and if available, the bug list. Looking through both of those should aid you in deciding if that specific ROM or Kernel is something you want to use. If you get as far as flashing Kernels, make sure it is one that is compatible with the ROM you are using, otherwise the tablet probably won't boot and you'll have to flash a Kernel known to work with whichever ROM you chose.
Read thru the stickies above.
First thing you'll need to do is check the serial number on it and make sure you even have the choice of rooting it. AFAIK, most serials after the B60 series have a locked bootloader that hasn't been cracked yet. I hope I'm wrong, but I haven't read anything to the contrary yet.

Not sure how many of you have seen this on XDA today, but Google has started limiting you to four device deathorizations per year for Google Music. Normally, not such a big deal, but when you flash a ROM twice a week and have to authorize your phone that often, you will be unable to activate Google music on new ROMs until next year.
Here's the main thread in the Gnex forums: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...php?p=26145534
And here's a petition they started about halfway through the thread: http://www.change.org/petitions/goog...rization-limit
I posted this in the Rezound forums, too. Just trying to get everyone aware of this. I don't want to switch to Amazon MP3.
Just signed the petition.

FYI those links are not working due to the ellipses in the middle of them.
Sent from my Droid Incredible using the XDA app.
Can you explain this deauthorization? I flash quite a bit but I don't think I've ever run into that.
As a sidenote, even though I'm still not sure what this limitation is, I wouldn't be too surprised if they'd reset it for you if you ask... kinda like how if you activate a Windows license too many times you have to call them up and say "Yes, it's always been on the same computer" and they'll let you activate. It may just require contacting Google every so often to get a reset (now that Google's Play services actually have customer service)
Each new rom you flash and install/run google music will count as a different DEVICE on your authorized device list.
Aka 10 rom flashes and google music installs = 10 different devices on your account.
They add up rather quickly when you're a flashaholic like me lol
Sent from my Droid Incredible using the XDA app.
Google temporarily suspends its deactivation practice in search of a better solution:

Well if the support's loose, hopefully they can tighten it back up.
Wouldn't bother me if it did happen though, this is the only phone I've ever had where I prefer the stock ROM (with some xposed tweaks) to a custom, including CM which has been on every device I've owned that it supports.
It was just a matter of time before he lost it again.. Really am surprised it took that long.

I have not run a ROM yet that didn't have issues its not even worth it with xposed. Since I have some apps that require xposed modules to work I have to run it anyway. So there is no benefit to a custom ROM that since the beginning has been broken ie. No speaker phone camera and video issues. Just don't see the need unless it was flawless. I will say this my phone is much smoother on a custom ROM that is for sure. But no active notifications and touch less control sucks.
Sent from my XT1080 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Well, Active Display and Touchless control were not going to be portable anyway..
Most of the things in GravityBox give a feel of a custom ROM.
One thing I don't understand, why all the hate for xposed modules? I am not too fond that they must exist but don't get why one be be so obverse to running a couple to make life better.
