I've had an HD2 for about a year before the touchscreen had a hardware malfunction and it stopped working.
Then I got a brand new HD2 for free and it has last me ever since.
Tell us about your HD2's life
18 month contract ends next week - still going strong
18th Nov 2009 and still going strong
18th Nov 2009 and still going very strong (WinMo 6.5, Android, Ubuntu...)
till the end
I had mine since 1 year. And still cant find one can bite it
I have mine since 14 months and it runs like new - it dropped mutiple times, one corner is dented and the accu cover is scratched but otherwise nothing to complain. It´s a great thing.
18 months old and still looks brand new, even after a couple of drops onto a tiled floor.
It is the only phone that I've known that has lasted so long at the top of the class in specification.
It lasted a week with its original T-Mobile UK ROM - just in case it went faulty.
The best thing about this phone is the geniuses on here who turned a great phone into an amazing phone.
14 months, looks new, works fine...well...enough.
18 month contract runs out in 20 days. It's been fine all the way through. Only visible damage is the coating on the battery cover has rubbed away bits, but otherwise has lasted everything, only reason I'm getting rid of mine is to get a sensation. Hopefully that will be the new HD2 as far as dev goes.
I had mine since november 2009.
I use my HD2 since 12/2009 (X-mas gift) and the phone looks almost like new. Well, I might need a replacement for the original leather case soon.
I was a little later, I have my HD2 since September 2010.
I am very happy with the phone, now running on MccMBoxmaX GS 7.0
My HD2 18 month contract ran out 7 days ago, got a new desire s. Have kept the HD2 and put it back to wm6.5 and use it now as an Igo promo sat nav, found igo didn't run to well on Android on the HD2, Having said that it runs very well on the Desire S for some reason.
Dropped the HD2 several time during its life as my main phone, but it still looks and works fine.
Probably flashed it nearly as many times as Paris Hilton has flashed to the Paparazzi.
It wouldn't have been half the phone it is now if it wasn't for the hard work of so many talented devs on here.
Hi.
Feb 2010 and still going like clockwork. As i have messed with linux etc. on my phone since dcordes put that first post on xda I now have a Bit of a dodgy power button but who hasn't.
Thanks to all the devs who made android and other linux distros etc work so well on this phone, would not have kept it for so long if it wasn't for them winmo just sent me mad lol.
won mine in a contest - lasted about 1 year and 4 months thus far!
Im on my third Hd2. First two with a cracked screen
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
I have mine for 1 year now. After 6 months the screen started to look yellowish with blue lines. It never fell on the ground or something. So I brought it back and in 2 weeks it was repaired. They had to replace the main circuit board. Good service, great phone!

i miss the days when the portal was dominated with hd2 development. hopefully the hardware on the sensation is fixed soon, i am intetested in moving over also.
10.5 months and not even close to getting rid of it. I love my Leo
3 months here.
Mine was sent to htc repair center because of the reboot/hight temperature problem. The main board was replaced and now everything is ok.

Hey guys,
I'm a little curious but, if you're still using your FIRST X1 (Not exchanged, repaired, etc) and it has no build issues (cracks) at all, could you please sign in here?
Despite the prices dropping on Amazon.com (From 799 to 615 USD in less than two weeks), I'm still very curious as to how prevalent this issue really is. So please, show me the light!
Cheers.
i got a crack-free x1 bought in denmark, importet from UK.
a week 48.

i have used it in about a month now, and bought it used, so a little over a month.
bought it onthe first sunday of feb. dun rememebr date, unlocked, no problems. production date 08w49
Bought mine in November in the UK .. not long after it was released .. nothing wrong with it ..
Mine is crack free...but the battery cover got lots of scratches.
bought x1a from sonystyle.com in November. Still good.
I'm currently still using my first X1 But not for long anymore. Mine will go into repair tomorrow (just finished reverting it back to stock ROM & SPL). I have a crack at the stylus (I could somewhat live with it as it wans't that bad), and since the end of this week a crack at the batterycomponent (which is no longer acceptable).
I noted all the information I could retrieve from the phone (Serial numbers, IMEI, etc) and marked the Micro SD slot with a pen, as that will allow me to easily recognize if I get a new one or that they will simply put a new back cover on my current one
Still using my first Xperia, got it November of last year ..thinking about getting it replaced though 'cause the keyboard's bugging out one me...
Guys,
Thank you for all the information thus far, please, keep em coming!
Cheers.
I bought black X1i used, it's from December I think. When I got it, the keypad already peeled of sporadically and some very very very minor scratches on the battery cover and the edge near the mic hole... But no crack... And judging from the previous owner, he probably a very careful and tidy person... Just taking a wild guess because the X1 have 2 screen protectors.
The keypad peeling off issue is very very minor to me, in fact, I'm in the process of completely peeling off the keypad outer covering myself. I already completely peeled off the leftward keypad and it really is much better without the coating.
If (knock on wood) the crack issue doesn't rear its ugly head on my X1i, I'll probably replace the casing sometimes in the future, when true wear and tear came up... But for now, quite satisfied, considering how cheap I bought it
im still using my first X1. some scratches on the side due to my recklessness.
thinking of sending to repair cos some keys are getting harder to press. slowing down my typing speed...
Got mine since Nov 08, scratch free, crack free, no problems at all. I'm just lovin it. Production - 08w46.....
Had mine since Nov 08, scratch free, crack free. I take the batter cover off all the time messing with roms and still no problems. I do use a PD air case. Production - 08w45
pretty sure its a UK version.
had mine since 1 mth ago, accidently threw my keys and phone into the same pocket... now a bit of the plastic from the dpad is scratched off... its like mona lisa with a massive pimple ><'' and some minor scratches on the battery cover... apart from that, no cracks, 08wk49 one
I'm also still using my first Xperia, and have had no problems whatsoever.
Go for it
I've had more than one silver Xperias to date
No problems so far
But reading other's stories now I undersand why SONY broke up with HTC...
("quality issues" they stated, and 1/3 of the forum seems to proove it)

gtrab,
Aye. From the looks of it, purchasing an Xperia will land me a 30%+ chance of obtaining a crack within a month. Considering the fact that the Xperia I intend to purchase is unlocked and without a contract, the costs of repairs will likely not be covered. One way or the other, I foresee SE giving me the big turnaround when it happens.
The risks are so high and the chances so slim to even find a problem-free Xperia. I'll give it a couple more days and see how the votes go. Maybe it'll change.
Cheers.
i bough an x1 from UK first week in november,so 3months old and some days, and i only have a crack where battery is.on the side.it is not anoying.otherwise it is ok,no marks and cracks.i have black xperia, week 48.
OK, I just got off the phone with Bell and they are giving me the standard 4-6 weeks answer. I usderstand that's the answer they have to give, but in real-world instances, how long is it taking?
I've been reading assorted places and seeing an average of 2 weeks.
What aobu tyou? How long did it take to get your REPAIRED or REPLACED (please specify) phone back?
Thank you for your help in keeping my sanity. I'm losing it here without my phone.
I'm here in Nova Scotia Canada
6 weeks replacement for freezing
same day (today) for back button not working..

out for 6 weeks and they ended up just replacing it?
ugh.
that's rough. i'm having a hard time after 2 weeks!
If mine ever breaks and it will take longer than 2 weeks to fix or they're on total backorder my plan is to try and get them to replace it with a Desire Z. Same value phone, but I can find my way home from the Bell store using the GPS
It was 6 weeks for the new one to come in.so I still had my old one to use till then.

Will bell repair your phone if you bought it from them but are currently on a different provider?
My clumsy G/F dropped my phone and broke the screen and I would like it replaced ... lol.
I see you can buy the screens on ebay for 60$, can't be to hard to replace..

I would rather pay someone else to do it TBH, I have replaced a ton of iPhone screens but I've seen videos of the AMOLED and its like fused to the glass.

8 days for me I guess I'm quite lucky
I'm going to the Bell store tomorrow if not Friday.
I'll let you know how it goes.
They said 6-8 weeks for me and im in Guelph, its like 30 mins from where that FutureTel place is.....and the sad part is i had to pay to send it out, since i bought it 2nd hand $100.....lame. im planning on selling this phone though as i wanted a physical keyboard phone like my old one motorola milestone.
in BC replacement of the main board took 2 weeks. Looks like they replaced mine with a refurb since some twat got nail polish or something on the SD card holder.
Less than 2 weeks for me, but the phone wasn't repaired so I don't know if that counts. I sent it for the broken GPS. They factory reseted my phone and that's it. Of course it didn't solve my GPS problem.
They told me 6-8 weeks too. It took then one.

It has been 5 weeks since mine went out,
Still don't have it back
2 weeks for me, internal SD card replaced, in Victoria BC
Had internal SD card problem. Took 3 weeks to finally get a replacement.
Are they offering up a loaner at least?
Mine was from Craigslist (never again). Installing OCLF killed an already buggy as hell phone running 2.2. Flashed the hell out of it for weeks, then eventually called around 3rd party repair shops. JP Cellular fixed it in 2 days and cost $72 w/ taxes. Which is less than my Bell bill for the month it sat dead on my desk. I believe its been 3 weeks after the repair. All is well, stock FW and no mods.
they said 4-6 weeks, but called me up in just over a week to have my phone picked up. said they replaced the mainboard.
Only had the EVO for 2 months now. Love it, however...
Within the first 30 days, I went through four devices.
1st one, screen just stopped, exchanged in store.
2nd one, just would not turn on anymore, exchanged in store.
3rd one, speaker blew, exchanged in store.
Now the third one held up, for a bit... and the rear speaker blew again, this time im outside the 30 days so Sprint sent me a refurb.... I begged them for a new one since I have barely had this phone and have have so many problems, nope ... This must of been a heavily used EVO. Was activated on 8/15 and has a lifetime of 4,390 calls. Yay, went from a series of new ones to a cosmetically new one, but with an old engine under the hood

Yeah maybe if you didn't feel the need to just JUMP, you'd be able to do the same. Been seeing your posts, you the new guy that just hates?
OP, I feel your pain. Only my 2nd Evo - myself - but I know how it goes to have a bout of bad, and specific, devices.
PMultiple users have expressed their repeated returns and receivings of new Evo's while others haven't had much trouble. Hardware issues arise, normally, but it's tough dealing with more issues than the norm will face.
Edit: see the Lawrence speed test server ... Kansas folk ... LOL kidding there but seriously, useless response
SWYPED from my SUPASONIC
Somebody wasn't meant to get an Evo.
Or maybe you're confusing this phone with the palm pre. I had mine replaced 4 times.
My touch screen died on my HD2, it was one of the older versions bought in Jan last year. I sent it off to HTC in April and they've had it over a month now. They say the parts are in Taiwan but have no idea when they'll ship. I simply can't beleive such a big company can happily take my phone off me for over a month and still not be able to tell me when they'll repair it. And to top it off, they sent my proof of purchase, which had my name/address etc on it, to a totally different customer; the numpty repair shop had clearly shoved my paperwork in to some elses repaired HTC phone.
Anyone else have the same issues with them at the moment? Anyone managed to get a replacement handset out of them yet???
This is a high bureaucracy if you want something repaired under warranty...

Funnily enough they sent me an email today to say the phone should be with me on the 25th and the delay was due to moving the repair centre. That's the first time they mentioned that, up till today, it was always "we're waiting on parts, not sure what's happening". If only people could be honest. At least they've offered a free accesory up to 50 quid as a way of saying sorry so that's not too bad. Still, this whole debacle makes me think my next phone won't be a Sensation but a Galaxy S2. I hope Samsung do better repairs!

Got the same call today - repaired phone will be back with me next week & I chose the Bluetooth Headset for £50 as a freebie from HTC (as an apology for the delay in returning the phone to me).
The experience has not made me want to jump from the HTC brand (been with them since the old days of the SPV) - therefore I will still be grabbing a Sensation when my contract expires in the next few months.
Mine got picked up 6 weeks ago today and I got the same email yesterday. It was a Desire that I sent off.
try to ask them send u a new phone ^^
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
Ive tried many times lol.
Have any of you got UPS tracking numbers for your devices to be shipped back?
My HD2 finally arrived back today with a nice new working touch screen (just as HTC said it would).
Although the HTC website says that it is awaiting pick-up by the courier service
Now I have to find another screen protector & try my best to apply it minus dust bubbles & turned up corners.
Well, well.... Got my phone back today after 6 weeks and 5 days unrepaired, exactly with the same fault as when I sent it and with my battery missing to top it off.
HTC have now told me that I will be receiving a brand new Desire S for compensation, its supposed to arrive today or tomorrow.
Anyone else been offered a brand new phone for compensation?
Lets say that my experience in the Benelux area is not much better.
The first time my HD2 got into repair, 1.5 months ago. 3 appointments to pick it up and not showing up with the most lame excuses.
Device was fixed after that in 1 week time which is good to me but the delivery back was another thing .... again.
The guy on the phone also asked me why I was angry after 3 missed appointments. Well if I do that in my current role I will not make it untill the end of the week.
Now after a month my phone has a MB problem and I already feared the support thing when it started happening. Needless to say I was right again!
Called in on Monday morning and was asked when it should be picked up. Two choices Tuesday 9am-1pm or 1pm-6pm, so I choose 9am-1pm.
They picked it up at 4:20pm. Not so funny when you think that I have to arrange my working day (and customers) for it.
To top it off. This morning I get an email that the device they received is not a desire hd as mentioned in the case but a hd2. sighhh
-------
Aangemeld Product:
Desire HD - Desire HD
Referentienummer: 11BECxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Ontvangen Product:
TOUCH HD 2 - TOUCH HD 2
--------
And I won't go into detail on what happened to my Touch Pro a year ago which went into service a couple of times and wasn't fixed at all.
... and we have a winner ... again.
Got a message last Friday that my HD2 was ready.
Now this morning I asked Dynafix (the company that 'fixes' it in the Benelux)where it was and what was done to fix the issue.
'installed the latest rom' I was speechless.
I already told the HTC guy what was done before it was picked up and ofcourse installing the latest rom is one of them.
About 20 minutes later by coincidence I get customer care on the line asking me if I was satisfied with the repaired phone. (That I still don't have btw)
I mention what I just heard from the repaircenter and that the device will not work like it should.
It will have to come in 1 more time and then they can do a swap if it gets approved.
The device has not been working like it should since March the 27th.
I asked if it could get swapped for another model and I got a straight 'no'.
HTC is seriously getting on my nerves. Spending over 2000 Euros on phones over the past 3 years and not doing something in return for customers is not a good thing.
I was tempted to ask for a Sensation and pay a part of it myself but now I am more than tempted to get the Samsung S2.
Edit: The thing arrived 15 minutes ago ..... pop in battery and 5 minutes later ... stuck
Already recorded it to have some proof http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u7rswNyy2DI
Edit 2: Contacted HTC again to ask them if they can exchange it.
This really .... me of. They concider the last repair not a repair but a software upgrade so they will not exchange it.
Strange since I sent it in for a repair and already mentioned that I did a rom upgrade etc.
Has anyone had any problems with their refurbished EVOs? So far I've had 4 in the last week and a half, and I have to go back again tomorrow for what I'm going to assume will be my 5th. The power button on my EVO broke, they sent me a refurb. That one had a broken charging port when I got it, another refurb. That one did nothing but a constant boot loop, another refurb. This one came to me with a blown earpiece speaker and an overheating problem that causes the phone to reboot.
I'm sick of spending my family dinner time every day at the Sprint store. Can I be the only one who is having these problems? It seems to me that whoever refurbishes these phones for Sprint has absolutely no quality control department whatsoever. Another (what I consider to be huge) problem is that at one point I was waiting 3 days because the refurb EVOs were on back-order. During that time I had to steal the extra phone on my account back from my mom.
I guess I really can't do much about any of this, but I did write a letter in the hopes that someone will give a damn about just how horrible these refurbished phones are when they reach the consumer. I don't have high hopes though.
It reminds me of the time I drove from Sprint store to Sprint store trying to find a replacement Treo years ago. I hit 5 different stores before I finally got one that wasn't a damaged refurb.
That's the end of my rant. If you're bored enough to have read this far... well, that sucks.
I had my launch day Evo replaced due to the broken power button issue with a refurbished unit. It has worked flawlessly since I got it about 3 weeks ago. It is hardware version 0004.
I had a similar problem to yours. The 3g radio went out on my 31 day old evo, back when i got mine on launch day. Even though I was 1 day over the 30 day exchange policy, they refused to give me a new one. I went through 6 refurbs before they finally decided to give me a new one. Each one was ridiculously bad. One wouldn't turn on. One had a bad charging and hdmi port. One had a whole section of the screen that didn't work. And the worst one, when I got it out of the box, the screen was literally in two pieces. The entire glass part was not glued to the actual phone. I immediately took it back to the store that ordered it for me, and they refused to replace it, saying that I was the one who broke it, even though I didn't even activate it yet. I had to fight with Account Services and customer support for over 2 weeks to get them to finally get me a new one. Everyone I talked to ASSURED me their refurbs were "completely normal" and "rebuilt to factory specs". I didn't know factory specs included the phone coming in two pieces.
On a side note, my girlfriend went through the same thing with Verizon with her old phone last year. It was a touch screen phone, she went through 5 refurbs until they decided to get here a new one. Same thing, every one was so bad. Three of them, the touch screen didnt work at all. One the vibrate didn't work. One would not connect to the internet. And they said the same thing, "all our refurbs are completely tested to work just like a new unit". Yeah right.
That is pretty interesting, pretty crappy of Sprint to do that to you.
However, from my experiences they have some sort of a 3 refurb rule, or it may be 4 and then they are supposed to give you a new phone. I am not sure that this is still a policy but I know I have fallen back on it a few times. Do some digging and see if you can confirm that it still is or bring it up to them at the store. If they **** you around call retention and let them know your fed up and I am more than positive they will take care of you.
Went through 2 myself in the past two weeks and when the third one came in the same way, the rep game me a NIB 004. Guess it all depends on who you speak with and how their day is going! The issue on all of these was the 'sunspot', as I call it. Had my first evo screen replaced 4 months in last year for the same thing. Good Luck!
i just got a refurb last week. i waited over a week cause they were on back order. first thing i did was root it and load cm7 on it. no problems so far.
when i had to get a refurbed moment last year it was a different story though.
My update... Sprint replaced the blown speaker. Had to go back again today because the phone kept overheating and rebooting. A nice technician named Sandi gave me a new EVO. It came with gingerbread, so no root for me. But I am so glad to be through with the broken refurbs. If I had gotten one more broken phone I think I would have had to ditch Sprint. I'm honestly very relieved.

Anyone having any problem getting refurb replacements? Backordered wise?
Seems to me like you would have saved yourself a lot of headaches if you just checked the phone before you left the store. Everytime I get a phone from Sprint, I go sit in my car for a few minutes and make sure everything is working. It's better than driving all the way home and realizing my phone is broken later. Plus if you come back in right after they give you the phone, and show them the problem, they wont be able to say that it's something you did.
