I am asking this questions b/c mine is unlocked, and i think it's why I am not getting the movies apk or option from the market (and why Amazon mp3 is blocked). Any ideas?
Idk about why AmazonMP3 doesn't work, but Google Movies isn't out for the SGT yet.
Also, whether the bootloader is unlocked or not, it won't affect these things; they're only affected if you root.
I got a 32gb but its unlocked =D
mine is also unlocked
I get my 32 GB tomorrow so Ill let you know. Crossing my fingers its unlocked because I could inexpressibly care less about Google's rent-a-movie service.....
And will heartbroken if I need a secure key to flash (which no body but Samsung has.....) because of it.being locked....
Mine is unlocked, and Amazon MP3 works fine.
Thanks ALL!!! I don't mind that's unlocked. Was SHOCKED actually.
Where did you get Amazon MP3, from the market?

Mine came with Amazon MP3 preloaded. Bought it on the 19th. How do you know if it is unlocked? It is the little pad lock when the SGT is turned on? If so, mine looks to be unlocked. Thanks in advance for the help.

Dear owners of all tab 10.1,
I recently bought a Tab 10.1, but every time when I reboot the machine, I see an unlocked padlock at the bottom of the screen. Does that mean the tab comes with an unlocked bootloader or in fact my device was being tampered (unlocked) by someone before being sold to me?
Tks in advance!

unlocked / rooted is not good if you plan to use googles movie service
Thtas what i thought when I saw the unlock icon and I am still thinking that the devices with the unlocked icon has sold before to someone and maybe that person unlocked it and return it back. And then Samsung repack it and sent it back to the retailer and sold again. That's just my thinking I can be wrong. I made this assumption because the tab I bought from best bu NY union square it did not have unlock bootloader sign and the battery life was do so good. But I exchanged it for some reason the next one I got was from queens area and it has unlock bootloader and the battery life is so not good.
People were getting unlocked bootloaders on launch day. How could they have gotten a refurbished unit then? That takes at least a couple weeks turn around... They came unlocked from the factory

Kevin bb selling it from June 8 in nyc which according to my knowledge were all locked. So there is a chance there were return back to bb nyc which eventually returned to samsung and they fix it the problem but to make them happy they unlocked it by their selves. The faulty thing in the unlocked tab is the battery i guess.
Kevin can u plz tell me which ppl did get the unlocked one on the launch day? Do you know that person? Or did u saw any post here in xda plz give the link thanks
Unlocked/32g/amazon 6/17
Now with cwm and root. No issues.

Tks for the info guys, pls keep posting so ppl here can know more abt this issue.
I bought mine from a shop in hong kong which is a grey import from the US. The box was sealed with an unbroken sticker, but I have to admit that reproducing a sticker is a very simple thing.
From the the time the shopper opened the box and took out the device, everything seemed to be untouched before, but once the device was booted, I saw the unlocked padlock!
BESIDES, I realized that my camera app doesn't look like the one ppl posted on youtube, that is the dial control on the right side of the monitor, instead I got a very simple one with button options on the left... what abt you guys?
It's without Samsung touchwiz!

So you think that all the units that were sold locked were returned and refurbished to be resold again on the national launch day? The number of units on hand at the initial launch in NY wouldn't be enough to support that. Why is it so hard to believe that you bought a brand new, never been touched, unlocked Tab?
And by the way, being locked or unpicked has nothing to do with battery life whatsoever.

Hey, am planning on buying a new samsung focus. Am thinking of getting an at&t locked one off ebay then unlocking it using this coz it'll be cheaper than buying an unlocked one. Would anyone recommend this or will i end up getting screwed?

1. Make sure the phone is "new", not refurb. Then check if it had water damage, things replaced etc. Keep in mind that Amazon sells new Focuses for $229
2. I've used a similar unlock for $0.99 and got a good code in <1h
3. Find a good SD card
Good luck!
Agreed
I concur with EnderPsp. I used a similar code to SIM unlock my ATT Focus. The code came to me in less than 15 minutes and the unlock went smoothly. You probably already know this so forgive me, but you are about to become a fellow Focus owner. This is a SIM unlock and will not unlock your Focus for sideloading xaps etc, just allow you to use other carriers.

Hey thanks. I think i'll be getting a new unlocked one from Amazon instead. It's even cheaper than some of the locked ones on ebay I noticed that you live in Europe. Can i assume that the at&t unlocked version of the phone is working ok for you. I want to make sure that i dont get any problems. My carrier uses GSM 900 and 3G 2100 bands.

Sideloading means installing non-market apps on the device, right? If thats the case it really won't be much of a bother to me. Which reminds me, does the samsung focus have the SIM Toolkit(STK) application?

Yes, both my Focuses work fine across Europe (AT&T and my wife's Rogers).
Just make sure the Radio is set to "World" not "North America".

You're mainly right about sideloading. Unfortunately there is no STK on WP7, but there is an app called "Network Profile" that you can download from marketplace and might help you a bit.
Anyone from the UK with Vodafone and a recent Samsung device? Did Vodafone lock the bootloader of that Samsung device? I'm desperately trying to find out if the bootloader on my pre-ordered Vodafone UK S7 Edge will be locked, if it is and can't be easily unlocked I'm sending the phone back when I get it.
I spoke to someone at Vodafone and he claimed it did come locked, but I suspect he was confused with sim lock despite my best attempts to explain the difference. I've seen mention on the PingPong root thread of someone who rooted their Vodafone S6 (here), although I'm not sure that root method required an unlocked bootloader without reading up on it.
I'd really hate to return this phone when I get it, but no way in hell am I paying £40 a month for a phone I can't root.
Didn't really think about boot loader I went with EE but from buymobiles.net so I assume it won't have EE stuff on the phone so won't be locked
Carrier phones like vodafone are locked to the first sim inserted , better get one at carphone warehouse as thats an unlocked version

You're confusing sim lock and bootloader lock. I'm taking about the latter.

No yours won't be branded. It is only branded when ordered directly from EE. I wanted to avoid getting it directly from EE but being 90 days away from the end of my contract left me with that being the only option to upgrade. They're also very slow with updates which is the main reason I wanted to avoid getting it direct.
People keep telling me that at least I get wifi calling but that's not something I will ever use as the signal strength is fantastic in my area.
why not cancel and preorder through samsung
Because, unless I go directly through Vodafone, I don't get the 20% employer discount. And over the two lines I have that saves me £480 over 24 months.
Just in case someone manages to get hold of a Vodafone S7 today (I read at least one person on another forum has had theirs delivered) I would appreciate if someone can check this out and let me know. Apparently, if you go into the dev options and the OEM Lock toggle is there and usable, the phone has an unlocked bootloader. Cheers in advance.

No, that's just the SE Linux Permissive vs Restrictive toggle. Nothing to do with a locked/unlocked bootloader state.

Incorrect.

I find it ridiculous there doesn't appear to be an east way to discover if a devices bootloader is locked or unlocked. Surely there is an app that can discover this?
Good news by the sounds of it. A few people I know who have the S7 edge from Vodafone have said the bootloader appears to be unlocked.
EE usually lock the load loader too but when I got mine it was unlocked. Result.
Any idea how they discovered this? And how did you know your phone is unlocked? The OEM Unlock toggle apparently isn't an indication it's definitely unlocked.

I'm not sure how they knew, they just told me it was unlocked so maybe (like me) they're assuming the OEM unlock toggle means it's unlocked.
Yeah, I don't believe that indicates a definite unlocked bootloader. I'm going to do more digging but I might end up having to keep the phone and hope for the best. The only sure way is to attempt a custom kernel flash or custom recovery, and there is no chance of one of them in the next couple of weeks.
Would be good to know for sure before the 14 day return runs out.

I'm waiting on that too. Although I am now insured so if it's not out soon I will be rooting and using my insurance for any claims if needed.
In my 8 years of owning Samsung Devices, I have only ever had to claim on my warranty once, so fingers crossed I won't need to this time round.
I'm upset that I wasn't told the bootloader was locked when I bought it. It only seems fair to disable the ads, per this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3631406
But what else can I do to customize this (otherwise OK) phone? I've unlocked the Dev mode, disabled/uninstalled some bloatware. Everything else I know how to do requires root, so no Xposed, Titanium, or Tasker. Still feeling cheated -- I researched enough to know to avoid the Verizon one, but I didn't expect Amazon to lock the bootloader.
Any suggestions?
You can return it to Amazon if you want, just tell them it has ghost touch issues (two of mine did) or that the fingerprint sensor doesn't work for apps (most apps don't use the way it does it).
Thanks, nice to know I have that option!
send it back and buy the no ads model. best buy also has the unlocked models on sale.
Can you confirm the no-ads model has an unlocked bootloader?
The sources I saw simply said that Verizon (and now Amazon) were the only vendors to request that moto NOT provide unlocking codes.

Yes, the no ads model has an UNLOCKABLE bootloader.
Thanks much!
A few notes to answer my own question: I have found some hidden apps exposed by AnyCut, including the Marshmallow Easter Egg (yep, on a Nougat phone), a Wifi calling toggle (that won't work), Testing menu, IMEI/serials lister, and some CDMA and IP network options. Still pretty dismal, in other words.
Not a bad phone, though, especially for the price. It just seems creepy to try adb and be told "insufficient permissions..."

you sure? I have the $99 amazon ads version and ADB works fine. used it to disable the ads. I pay amazon enough money so I really do not feel bad about it...
Hmmm, now you mention it, that's how I killed the ads, also.
Hasn't been working lately, though.
I have updates turned off, I wonder what has changed?
Thanks for the info, I'll have to look into it.
And roger on the not feeling bad.
Searched but found nothing. Since May of 2013 I've been using an LG Optimus G Pro E980 on AT&T (rooted, unlocked, tethered) . The Bluetooth issue from KiKat and earlier (fixed in Lollipop, but this phone cannot get L) is causing me to have to factory reset the phone a little too often lately, and I feel it's time for, and I'd like to get an upgrade.
Funds are somewhat limited right now for a phone purchase, and the G6 ticks almost all of the boxes in the search for my next phone. That along with the reduced price on Amazon, puts this at the top of my list.
Amazon Prime currently has the G6 for $399 with Lockscreen ads, or $549 without. I figure for $150 savings, I'd opt for the ads and see if they are removable after the sale. I've seen some tutorials on how to remove the Prime Lockscreen ads from the Moto G5 where some code is injected and it removes the ads, at least until the next OTA update, but I've not seen a hack for the G6. I'm curious if anyone has the Prime-version G6 with ads and if they've been successful in removing the ads.
Can a pristine version of the OS be dropped onto the G6 and turn it into a "normal" no-ad version (AT&T)?
I have not scoured the threads yet (didn't want to get super involved in learning everything about the phone if ad-removal is not doable), but is this phone relatively easily hackable,, bootloader-unlockable, rootable? And, if so, is there a no-ad hack, or are the tools accessible, and is there an ad-free OS that will work on an AT&T G6?
Thanks in advance!!!

You cannot drop a new ROM because the BL is locked.
The Essential phone is $399 with the 360 camera on Amazon for Cyber Monday.
Essential Phone does not work for me. One of my requirements is expandable memory. I'm constantly factory resetting my current phone often when I screw something up while hacking. All my important data and music files are on micro SD, and a reset to the phone is a quick process without having to reinstall 60 gigs worth of data.

I understand; but if you BL unlock and install TWRP, you don't have to factory reset.
You can do a dirty flash and keep your data.
You aren't going to be hacking anything on a BL locked LG G6.
I do understand your point though. It's just that Amazon, locks their promo devices down.
I was under the impression that the US997 was BL Unlockable.

Only if you buy one that is specified to be unlocked.
There are two versions with the same number and only the one sold from places like B&H has an unlockable bootloader.
The US Cellular version is also called a US997 and you cannot unlock the BL.
The Amazon version is locked down.

Love this forum and those who post here!!!!
I was not aware there was more than one version of the US997. I thought there was one and only one US997, but now I stand corrected. Thank you!
Just to reiterate....are you saying that there is no work around via flashing to get the firmware that B&H, or a non-Amazon seller might have?
And a change of subject, and possibly a newbie question...I've never purchased an "unlocked" non-carrier-branded phone before, so I have absolutely no experience in these matter!!!!! I'm going to be using this phone on the AT&T network. Since it is not branded to AT&T, how will I get OS updates and security patches? Can I assume that AT&T won't even push OTA updates towards this phone?
And I've read a thread that said that with an unbranded device, I would not get VoLTE, nor WiFi calling. Any truth to this?
With a locked BL there will be nothing you can do with the Amazon version except use it.
As for AT&T, I don't know about VoLTE or WiFi calling.
On Verizon I get VoLTE and I don't care about WiFi calling.
OS updates come from LG. Verizon can't push updates to my phone.
