Custom Kernel Devs

Seems its gone quiet on the rom/updates for most cookers , this prob because they are all at work on a new custom kernel for their roms like j, WB etc , what goodies will be activated by them and what release kernel will you be using ? as i see on freexperia hub both the .29 and 32 have been worked on? , will you all be dropping froyo and jumping straight to Gingerbread ? i like GB but for some reason i like froyo better WB v5 with custom .32 rom would be top notch

yep. I dont mind much for the fps cap but its probably cause I dont know what im missing. The most important to me is 16m colours.

believe me, you do If you've compared the x10 with phones like the htc desire, the desire is so much smoother because there is no fps cap

The important things for me are removed fps cap and overclocking.

I hear you buddy!

I don't think the call volume is necessarily because of the kernel. Its not a problem for a lot of people, it seems to be a regional problem. There are volume hacks available already but I don't know for certain they work for in call volume.

Regional or not its problem for many people so why not...and as I know all sound hacks works only on hacked devices...correct me if Im wrong...
...another thing is NO exposure correction (+- EV) for 2.2+ camera and until now nobody answered me if we will have it on new ROMs as we already have on 2.1 stock camera...maybe Arc cam port will help...do somebody know why noone port Arc camera apk to X10? Just a question because Arc firmware is here in XDA for a long time...

i'm very very sure there are a few things ppl NEED in a custom kernel:
1. FPS cap removal
2. 16mil colours
3. UNDERVOLT to save battery
4. tethering

Plus, it open doors to Cyanogen and MIUI teams to develop a version of their roms specifically optimized to our x10...
Also the possibility to port Sense Roms for those who like it, as jerpelea has tried unsuccessfully in the past...
And the possibility to develop optimized kernels, which will improve roms stability and speed...
Just look at G1 development section and you will see that there are some kernels that runs faster and better than anothers...

Well, fps cap doesn't really bother me. Considering the human eye can't see past 24fps and I don't really play any games to have seen the fps drop down to it being noticeable (except when the phone lags of course).

Human eye can percieve Much more than 24fps. 24 is a basis for smooth effects. 32 is generally the smooth media standard. Its a theory like gravity. Z"tests" have shown human eyes seeing past 60-100. Due to ram and higher fps would smoothen and speed up our phones. Much less lag. Better response time.

Try using Z's custom kernel for 2.1 at least once (or just compare the smoothness of scrooling menus and screens on iPhone and Xperia X10)... the removal of the 32fps cap do a hell of a difference. First time i´ve tryed i ->

its because the locale is set to hebrew, because they write and read from right to left instead of from left to right.

i really hope for better call quality because that, in my opinion, is the #1 reason wrong with x10. it SUCKS as a phone.

Why no FPS is good thing...anyways i guess we can remove that on our own now
no 16 M colors..you can see the diff with 65k and 16 m colors on a youtube video
no multitouch..had their been multitouch the guy would have SHOWN IT
ROM seems to be bit laggy specially while switching screens and turning on from a black screen,but yeah faster than 2.1 official

well... from what I have seen in this video must admit that this will be the first usable ''out-of-the-box'' firmware ever made by SE, so in conclusion, let the Devs make their job and we can enjoy our x10's as it was ment to be enjoyed ;-)

Oh yeah, just flash this via CWM then its set...
And guys I am using a Beats Solo as my daily distraction (actually I use it as my work headset as well... makes me look cool than I really am lol) and I DEFINITELY noticed a change (sorry Nobnut)...
It gave a better bass response... not that it made the bass sound heavier but actually more crisp as opposed to being muddy... Before I hate the Beats Solo sound in "normal" settings but now its much better... My music files are all FLACs ranging from Pearl Jam to Rage Against the Machine....

Everybody who listened to Beats Audio will tell you - Its more than just placebo, it really sounds WAY better.
Of Course just if you dont have 9$ Headphones.
In Ear Headphones sound great with Beats Audio

Test it with the MIUI 4.0 build
It does sound better !
Will be implemented in [V4a] next release !

Im not an audiophile ,
but..
I set my players to FLAT EQ - Guess is the only way to know !
I tested the before and after , I did hear an improvement mostly in bass

This thread is in relation to the bravia engine and whether it will be possible in future to keep it ON at all times. Even at homescreens? As we know the screen really looks vibrant with it and many owners would want it to be ON at all times.
I know it wont work on other roms but can it work at least on custom roms based on original XZ rom?
Lets discuss this here as it might be important.

Here's the thing: we already know that the final release firmware will have screen calibration. Surely one of the settings will be tantamount to continuous BE, at least on the saturation side of things? I think we're already getting it, without the need to hack,... though feel free to hack anyway

AFAIK it's not possible

It won't be possible unless someone gets very close to the source code of it. For photos it's a simple processing algorithm baked into the Album app, for videos it's an extra processing that gets done while decoding. You can't simply apply that to the whole screen.

Is this confirmed? And can we get the same effect as a bravia engine ON? Its not just about saturation only though.

Why not? In the end you can see the Bravia Engine just as some tweaks that are being applied.

I think BE2 work only in photos and videos but it well be awesome if some one make it run everywhere :victory:

if the XZ has screen calibration then BE2 isnt needed anymore in the home screen/web browser imo

when there's screen calibration included, does setting up and calibrating the screen affect the BE2, too?

Yep. Screen calibration won't be available right away though, it's not even sure it will be available at all. Maybe it'll arrive in an update.

Its there on retail units and not the demo ones so yes we will have it on release.

Whats game lag, why is it bravia engine 2 when it was suppose to be an upgrade going to x reality engine. I actually wish they would add a tweakable setting for x reality. Really like the color and contrast calibration but thing become pixelated and too sharp. And what was the battery problem?

I am not sure how relaiable is this but at first it looks like a minor update. There is no camera enhancements???

The lag could be a driver optimization, Final fantasy 4 lags a bit, but i could be fault of SE sucky developers for android

I haven't got full info about the update
I will try to find out about camera updates.
Depth variation means 3d visualization improved.

i think there will be some improvement bcos leaked images taken from z1s with 4.3 jellybean and with the same cam hardware has cam firmware as f400(from exif info) meanwhile we have f310 with the latest .257 firmware................so z1 will also be updated.

Yeah that is an interesting one, I think you will be waiting a while. Yes the CPU is capable but I don't believe that the internal USB interface is fast enough to cope with decent frame rates at 4k, because you will be wanting to save these to SD due to the size, and I don't think 10-12MB/s will cut it. Unless Sony can pull a rabbit out of the hat

It is most likely to be the Linux & Java memory management, and the garbage collection events causing micro pauses. I have one game which is pretty simple which has some lags on the Z1.
