Look out for "Message Center" in the Market.
Not only shows the GMail, but also other E-Mail, Calls, Text messages ...
Can be configured.
Also a payed Version with more customization, but normally not needed.

Gmail Icon

Hi:
Is there any way to have the gmail icon show how many unread mails you have, just the way HTC Mail icon does?
I think this will be a very nice addition to gmail funcionality.
Thanks.

Email query

Does anyboby know how to set some default text so it shows on the bottom of any emails you send on your x10? Also is there a way to cap the amount of emails you can recieve in your inbox?

Click to collapse
Not in the default Mail app... Try K-9 from android market.

Not in the default Mail app... And that really annoys me! Interaction gets very slow with 200 e-mails, and it will keep getting worse until I delete the account and add it again. However, K-9 from android market allows you to set how many e-mails to show in inbox etc.
Can you intergate this app with Timescape or does it only use the default android mail system?
Cheers
Timescape is limited to the default Mail app, I'm afraid... I hope SE will solve that later.
Personally, I set Mail to sync every hour, so that Timescape is updated. But instead of clicking on Timescape to read new mail, I open K-9. Not ideal, but better than having no e-mails in Timescape.
I would also recommend k9, much better than the in built email.
I switched as I found that I couldn't recover emails from the trash once in there (whats the point in the trash folder?).
Nice side effect is that when an email comes in the notification flashing light is purple rather than the green so I know if its email or text ... as they say 'small things...' )

[Q] Seperate icon for each gmail?

I have 2 gmail accounts on my phone setup right now and i hate having to switch between them while in gmail app itself. Is there anyway to have 2 gmail icons on the home screen 1 for each?
Would also like to know this. It is a pain in the ass how the gmail app handles multiple accounts. I would at least want a option to have the app reset to the accounts screen every time I close it.

I use "Gmail Unread Count" widget from the market, working pretty nicely so far. I have 2 gmail accts and put a widget for each on my homescreen, has customizable icon and shows the number of emails unread in each acct and tapping whichever widget opens the acct you have it set to check.

Email unread count widget - A wishlist

So I use gmail, and a corporate email account.
I can't stand 200+ notifcation bar messages a day for my email so i disable the notifications. I use gmail unread count widget and have for over a year. However, it does not do exactly what i want. So, here is my wishlist.
A widget, which looks like an email envelope that sits on my main homescreen, and is 1x1 in size.
Said widget should give me an unread count number for my gmail account and exchange account all in one number on the widget.
When the widget is tapped, it opens the stock samsung combined inbox app, which hosts my gmail and exchange accounts.
As it is now, my unread count widget only shows my gmail unread count, and when tapped, launches the android default gmail app, NOT the samsung combined inbox. So, I have to manually check for exchange emails periodically to see if I have work emails. This basically sucks. I mean it's great for gmail, but for work, i end up being late to respond when I'm out and about.
Does a widget like this exist? If not, is this something I could make in app inventor?
Help?
Launchr pro has that built in as an option. It may only be for gmail, that is all I use and all I can confirm.
Hmm... Problem is, I use adw launcher. Anyway to extract that apk?

It's not an apk by itself, it's a feature of LP. It doesn't work that way.

Gmail 2.3.5.2 (update) fix for those who use unread email widgets.

An FYI, for those who use the unread email count widgets.
Since the last few updates to which Google broke this ability for third party apps to check your unread email count and instantly show it, a FIX has been created.
Even with this latest 'security' update, this modded fix is the answer.
This fixes the unread email apps and launchers that instantly shows you your unread gmail email.
Please see this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1199518
This really irritates me, that our competitors are able to see their unread emails INSTANTLY, except for Google Gmail on an Android phone. You all seen the commercials for the windows phones, on how with the live tiles show their unread email.
This little convenience should be a standard protocol with all Android phones. A little unread email count widget should come with the instillation of Gmail from the market.
Anyway, please check out the thread..
I have other more important Email accounts than Gmail.
I want SOME homescreen Widget when running LauncherPro (Stock email or other) to show the number of Unread emails.
Why is this so impossible??????
