## I will clean up the code, and UI this weekend: and for those with any doubts: http://www.xda-developers.com/android/1-click-eris-root-app-no-pc-required/
## To those tempted to redistribute my apps, or apps based on my work without permission. This will only result in me using a new obnoxious DRM system. Please stop it.
Preface, This is not a free app, its a try before you buy app. If this app works for you, and you are happy with it. You are required to donate a meal to a homeless youth, or any amount of money to a youth outreach type program.
This is a TeamAndIRC production. The source code is available on request, if good reason exists.
I got bored and whipped this up tonight with ECLIPS3. This will root your Droid Eris running 2.1 with 1 click.
If something doesn't work, don't freak just contact me. Tested working on latest RUU.
This does NOT erase anything off your phone. You can keep you data/apps with this root!
Step 1) download and install this apk
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8699733/erisone010.apk - VERSION 0.1.0
Step 2) Run, read disclaimer, press button
Step 3) Reboot, once rebooted your phone should have Amon's recovery. Yay.
Step 4) Use the recovery to flash rootme.zip that is now on your SDCard, or the custom rom of your choice.
Step 5) Go into settings, and turn usb debugging on. After you have root, please uninstall this app.
Just that easy.
Please come chat with use at http://chat.andirc.net or irc.andirc.net #droideris if you have a separate IRC client.
Credit to:
Eclips3 for spending hours and hours and hours testing my crap. Without him this app wouldn't exist.
TopazAaron for the icon
wag3slav3 for the root method
Amon_RA for the recovery image
erisuser1 for the post that gave me the idea.
and to the authors of flash_image and superuser.apk.
This is 100% legit! Very easy to do. One click. If you cant click one button. You dont deserve root lol!
If you do have troubles:

good work jcase and eclips3
good stuff!!!
Front page vote is in Nice work! As usual...
Very cool awesome work team!
Im already rooted but this should help quite a few who arnt/wouldn't be able to get adb setup or follow through etc.
Seriously, jcase & ECLIPS3, you guys are animals !
Thats awesome! if my eris ever craps out on me and i get a new one i will definitely use this.
Jcase and others; you are amazing
I'm confused about one thing. If it is a try before you buy app, and it is a one-click root app, then why would anyone pay for it? The majority of users only need to root once for the most part, so what's to say that people will download it, use it one time to root, and because they only need it for that one time operation, not donate at all? I can see a try before you buy for an application that can recieve daily use. Bravo nonetheless! You guys think of everything for the Eris!
Guess I will be trying this soon as VZW is sending me another refurb
thanks agin for all the work you and others put into the Eris community

You guys are truly amazing! And a donation for a good cause to boot.
Kudos all the way around!
Truly awesome. You guys rock! Thanks for all your hard work!
Nice work. Will be rooting my wife's Eris tonight.
FroYo, xda, beer, repeat.
Not truly universal as 1.5 isn't supported, but your description does point that out. This is a minor quibble and more of a note for anyone else attempting this on 1.5.

Its the conditions of use I put on the app. If they use it, like it and don't comply they are assholes and they know it. A meal for some kid cost $1-3 at McDonalds.

Does anyone know if the new Swype Beta keyboard works on the Hero?
I loaded the old version, and it required a higher resolution at that time, but before I mess up my perfectly working daughter's phone (who is leary of my experimentation), I wanted to know.
Thanks.
yes it does I just recently did the December update and it's working fine. Just make sure you use the swype installer so you can sign in and use the keyboard fully.
i personally prefer Shapewriter...
Yes, it works great on my Hero. I've been using it for the past 6 or 7 months without any issues. Takes a little while to get used to, especially if you're moving over from a physical keyboard. The last update (December) made some nice changes. I would likely throw my phone in the trash if I had to use the stock keyboard! Go get it, its easy. Like the other poster said, be sure to get the legal copy. Good luck!
Be careful though, I just found out that heroes auto corrects to herpes...particularly important for us.

Yea the new swype works well but when you install make sure you have data on and let the user license agreement go through or else you will get an error saying this version was formatted for another device.
Sent from my HERO200 using Tapatalk
I upgraded recently from the previous version of Swype on my Hero, and it started giving me the features won't work error which caused it not to swype at all. But reading the Swype forums, they advised to uninstall both Swype and the Swype installer apps and then reboot and reload Swype installer and install Swype again. After I did that, Swype is now working properly.

Read This: Namely rules #6 and #9
That being said, requesting warez is against the rules. Check out This Thread on a similar topic, mainly the last post my the mod if you think otherwise.
So... if you want Swype you're going to need to sign up for the beta via their website beta.swype.com

my favorite part of the new update is the voice button finally!
They just opened the beta again.
Just search for it on google. There's a hacked version that works perfect. I've been using it for about a month.

I have tried all of them, and even purchased one. I got into the beta program a couple of weeks ago before it opened, and like it the best so far. Very good.
I'm not trying to dig this thread up, but I just signed up for beta and got it working on aosp 2.2. I couldn't be happier. Hopefully I'll be able to keep or buy it after the beta period is up.
When the beta first hit, it worked perfectly, now every single time I download it I get a blue box around the keyboard when I tap anything. It's useless now, which is a shame, because I loved it. Anybody know a fix that isn't part of the troubleshooting list on the actual site?

Have you tried reinstalling the swype installer? I had to download it again from them and do it all over. Also, try this: tap any text box to bring up your swype board, long press to change to android keyboard, let it pop up, then long press to change back to swype. 99% of the time that fixes the blue box for me.

I went to download the new syndicate rom last night and the second I click on the rom download I'm forward to site that downloads a virus into my pc wtf is this some sick joke y'all trying to play on people. I tried to contact the developer and of course I get no response. The developers want you to join some bs irc.com site that offers no help what so ever. So because of trying to download this rom I had to completly wipe my pc clean and do a fresh install of my os.

IRC is Internet Relay Channel, and it's a live site where they provide real-time support. I don't know what virus you're talking about, as I downloaded 1.0.2 a few minutes after they put it out and I got no such thing...
I'm thinking you're overreacting just a touch here. Why don't you head over to their own thread and post your issues there. I'm sure theimpaler will repsond within minutes, as they're support (even here) is pretty top notch if you ask me.
I think I know what he is talking about, I mean not the virus part.. But the download site is free, so it has ads, and if you haven't done this before you don't know which one to click on.
You just have to watch when it comes up and read the file name before you click yes to install and you will be golden.
You should always watch and make sure when doing downloads, for this exact reason. Its not their fault, they are providing a free download..
The "virus" could be CWM as when I wen to download it my antivirus flagged it as an exploit, which it is technically, but not something that will harm your computer.
Whats the name of the virus? because a virus is used to root Android...but its an Android only virus...
Android/Exploit.RageCage.A trojan
is whats used to root
Now the "virus" in question wasn't rageagainstthecagearm5.bin or something along those lines was it? If so, that is the exploit for root. I'm only saying because a lot of people had anti virus flag it as a harmful exploit, which it is not. If it was a true virus... idk. I never download roms on my PC. I just do it straight from my Epic.
Edit: lol we all said the same thing!

LOL, I took this for granted which is why I stated I got no such thing. Yeah, a virus is technically used to root your phone. D$mn those devs for putting that virus in there!!!!
In no way will it hurt a windows machine.

But seriously, at first I did hit one of the "wrong" download buttons and it tried to download a download manager to my pc instead of the rom. while that is not a virus, I thought that might have been what he was talking about, because my antivirus didn't flag it.

I was going though my apps checking the automatic update when I got a pop up for Super user. Since it was a fresh install I just clicked accept not really thinking. Then my market forced closed on me, I tried to reopen it and it forced closed again. So I went into Superuser and saw market had been what requested the superuser permission... I changed it to deny and now my market works again but I am really confused about this... I have NEVER heard of market asking for SU...
I am using eVil D's Sense 3.0 located HERE I had this installed before and I never had this issue. I also have it installed on 4 of my co-workers MyTouch's and I am their resident flasher and go to guy so I really wanna know whats up so that they don't end up with the same issue.
Thanks guys!
Also I do not have any malware that I am aware of no black market apps I buy all my stuff. I have Super Security installed to scan all apps and nothing comes up as bad. Than and I haven't downloaded any different apps in this ROM that I didn't already have back when I was on CM7 and didn't get an issue like this with that.

The only thing i can think of is eViL dee said that the Netflix application will show up in the market. So unless there is some trickery going on with that i cannot think of anything.
Why not ask the same question in the Sense 3.0 thread. Since those people are using it and the developer is frequent there.

I've been using supersu since its creation. I own the pro version too. (I spend too much on apps )

I jumped on the SuperSU wagon too and also have the pro version, simply because the consensus was that it is better than Superuser, but now there seems to be a lot of hype around ClockworkMod Superuser.
This is why you should use Superuser by Koush.

This goes back to what I said about transparency. It's great that you can see everything about the app and that it isn't doing anything dodgy in the background, but does this leave it open to exploits?
Would someone out there be able to use their knowledge of the code to their advantage?
When a little more mature I'll give it a go (or once CM include it)
SuperSU always worked great for me and never had any issues and off course i also bought the Pro app. I think Chainfire is a genius and the app is constantly beeing updated and improved. And just because another app is is fully open it doesn`t mean it is automaticaly better.

You're right on both points, and both of those are actually the advantages of open source. Because it is there for everyone to see, anyone can take a look and point out the bugs, security holes, etc... which, theoritically, will leads to less exploits for bad guys to use.
Think about it as newspaper or peer-review journal. When what you do is there in plain text for everyone to see and criticize, the end products tends to have much higher quality and less errors.

The other superusers can and do have just as many exploits but you'd never know as they are not open so you'd never know if they got patched or not. That's pretty much the point of making it open sourced. I like Koush's work so I'm giving it a try and haven't run into any problems with it yet but only have been running it since yesterday.
If CM implements it
SuperSu is fine with me. I personally don't care about it being open source or not. Chain fire is a great developer.
Why change what works for the past four years of android.

I'm on Koush's SU. Open source is nice (although SuperSU not being open source wasn't something that concerned me). And I now have an entry in my settings menu for Superuser which is a great spot for it to live.
Also using Koush's SU, because i use PA ROM and it's implemented there.
Hope Koush brings more features in his SU with the time.

ChainsDD's Superuser hasn't worked that well since Gingerbread, and that left CF's SuperSU as the only functional SU. With Koush's SU CM can include a fully functional, open source solution in their build now. As much as I like SuperSU it shouldn't be the only option.
Supersu pro here haven't used super user since it didn't work on jb when I got the phone but have pro purchased for both

Added a poll to this thread, as the other thread didn't spark the debate that I would have hoped.
What I'm generally getting is that in the future, ClockworkMod Superuser will possibly be better than SuperSU, but for now there is no real benefit/advantage to switching.
The only good thing right now as 'CMNein' said, is that there's a 2nd option.
It would appear the next CM nightly will now be using the new Superuser package...
http://10.1.cmxlog.com/?device=mako
i switched over to superuser completely for paranoidandroid.
i think koush is an amazing developer and he's got an eye for design as well. i just love seeing his apps adapt. the way he's written superuser is genius, especially the settings integration.
i like that its open source and thats pretty much a necessity for such an important app.
well, and superuser behaves like a cog, it does what it should.
superSu has become self-conscious in that aspect. i know the developer must eat too, and i bought superSu of course, but its toasts made a joke out of any rom using it. my experience is that xda is usually very supportive - you dont need to force people, they will help out on their own because they are nice.
chainfire was very thoughtful and friendly of course, and immediately considered circumventing the nag-toast for roms. but just asking for it in his thread got me some good kicks in the stomach by his followers - that was pretty much the point where i started thinking i wanna be less dependent on it. if i dont like something in koushs implementation i fork and rewrite it - thats the way i prefer it.
