Hello people
past day i was doing some calculations and i've noticed that the calculator d'snt work well. when i try to reduce a percentage to a value the result shown is always wrong.
Anyone noticed that?
sorry for the inglish.

Lol. That's a first. A calculator not calculating correctly

Show us a calculation so we can try to see if the same happens here

I guess you are trying 100-20% and you get 99.8 and you expect 80 right ?

Yeah, I've heard a lot of complaints from people that expect something like this. I always thought they'd teach math at school

I fear when it comes to calculations with percentage the main problem are users that don't know how to enter the formula right.
My math teacher always said: NEVER use the percent and the root keys of your calculator because they will only cause trouble. Do your calculations the "real" way (x/100*y) instead of percent and (x^(1/y)) instead of root.
It seems he was right

Well I wonder how Root function could fail .. but maybe that's why XP calculator does not have it ..

The XP calculator has it; it's only in the standard view though. In the scientific view, you can just do x^0.5 where x is your number

I use the calculator a lot and I noticed this flaw when I got the phone a month ago...daft thing to miss on a high end smart phone ehhh?

caught ringer volume when took snapshot...doh

I don't see what's wrong with that. The way the computer interprets your command is 100 minus 15 percent of 1 which is 100-0.15=99.85. I assume you want to subtract 15% of 100 to get 100-15=85? Basically the % operation just divides the value by 100. So 15/100=0.15. You still have to multiply that by something (in your case 100) to get back to the percentage of the value you want.

You're doing it wrong mate. The calculator is giving you the correct answer for what you entered.

Its not wrong with all the other calcs I use..just wasting energy with all that other crap

Its not an error with the calculator its an error with user input. Trust me I see this day in and day out because I am a maths teacher.
A calculator will only do the calculation you tell it to do, you still have to know some maths in order to input it correctly

looks more like its showing off future smartphone and ppc phone technology. cant really tell
why couldn't it be wm7?
If they want to have an operating system that can compete with apple's then this looks promising to me.

Thanks for the link. Interesting read so far. I'm not done with the Blog.
I'm just wondering though. It says that the camera will be used to calcullate certain activities (which may include gestures such as shake, twist, etc.) instead of using gyroscopes and accelerometers.
While it is too early to tell, it seems that this approach (already attempted with current devices in field) would have a negative impact on battery drain since the camera would have to be "always on" in order to comprehend your movements.
Secondly, what if someone came up with a camera hack? Could you imagine having your camera phone hacked and just being on all the time, displaying your personal life to some freak? I don't know if that is possible or not, but, it would be kinda scarry for me.
The article contradicts itself in a few areas; such as saying scroll bars will be done away with, then later stating that the scroll bars can be dynamically resized. LOL.
Still, it's fun for me to read about forthcoming technology - vaporware or not.

In theory, yes. It will most likely not need different hardware than it needs today.
From the looks of it, WM7 will be a lot more powerful that WM6 and require a lot more processing power. I'm sure there are a few HTC devices which will be able to run it, but I don't think I waoul want to run it on my Touch since it can barely handle WM6.
I don't think there's been any official announcement about the date of release, but end of 2008 or beginning of 2009 sound like the right time frame for Microsoft to roll this out. http://htcsource.com

Original photo:
The right side of the screen as more space between the screen boarder and the case border.
It´s a tiny diference but after 2 months with this i always notice the diference.
As anyone have this same problem?
I'm thinking send it to the warranty but i don't if htc will make something about this...
If you return this to HTC - they will laugh at you and send it back.
I also have more gap on the right hand side - but can't see why this is a problem! As long as the screen is fully visable whats the issue.
There will be manufacturing tolerences that need to be taken into account - nothing is ever perfect!
Yes, but this is not a 10cent phone for that you can consider imperfaction. In the more of 30 ou 40 diferente phones this is the first with this type of imperfection and the most expensive.
At least i'm not the only with this.
Yes, your right. I haven't noticed this before. The display part of the screen is shifted left from the black painted border of the screen. Only slight on mine, but it's definitely off center.
Damn.. didnt notice this.. untill you pointed out.. May be its just the way the LCD is fitted..
I bet HTC wont even consider this as an issue.
If you guy's have this same "problem" maybe it's only the way it's built...don't know, but i don't think that this is correct from htc.My brother as one also and it as the screen perfect in the center.
this is not issue ,all hd2 i saw have it

Use the front-facing camera much?
So I'm in the USA, and I see a Galaxy S-like device called the captivate coming to AT&T...
I see the AT&T version has no flash and no front-facing camera. Does anyone use the front-facing camera much? If so, what for? Self pics/mirror or actual video conversations?
Any other differences between the Galaxy S (as on Samsung's web-site) and the Captivate?
Thanks,
Manos
Depends on your situation whether you'll be using the front-facing camera for video chats or whatnot. I personally wouldn't use the front camera for much since not many people I know have front facing cameras, too and I don't really care for it.
The only difference we can see so far is a different phone design, missing front camera, and apparently the AT&T version gets a gyroscope/six-axis motion sensor aimed at gaming. The AT&T version is also a 16gb base handset but you can add a microSD card for a maximum of 32gb.
Overall, I'm looking forward to the AT&T version although I'm bummed they scrapped the front-facing camera because of principle (Competition is too close for iPhone).
What power widget is that in the center?
ooh..no led notifications??
i was expecting the little strip above the word samsung to have leds??
Actually the phone has 384000 tiny LEDs. Do you want more?
Now seriously: Since AMOLEDs only consume energy when used, it would be great if the screen (in standby) could show some small visual notification. Are you listening Samsung?

Epic magical uber leet jesus battery thread ftw!
Pics or it didnt happen.
I only see it possible if you did a restore and haven't charged.
Example: Performed a restore using a recovery from two days. Before restoring the battery was fully charged. This will cause the amount from last charge to be out of wack and show the amount of hours since your recovery rom was charged.

Oh that? That's a ROM I flashed on your phone. It's called JokesOnYou V1.3
Changelog:
1.0 = Your phone is dead with that image displayed forever
1.1 = Updated the framework, your phone is still dead, but now it's Gingerbread
1.2 = (removed) sent continuous screenshots to Cyanogen, making him **** his pants. I got sick of donating enough for new pants.
1.3 = deducts a penny from the debit card you use in the android market daily to contribute to steve jobs' coffin. It's pretty nifty, called the iDead and continually updates it's users letting us know that he is, in fact, still dead...your phone (sadly) is still dead and will continue to display your insane battery life.

My cliq lasted 13+- days in airplane mode and wifi on but not associated.

Foolishness.
56 hours isn't that crazy if you think about it, it's almost 2 1/2 days, if you put your in edge, and low brightness and don't text or call anyone or use at all, for that matter, I think you can achieve that. There's people who go for 2 days without charging. I don't see why it can't happen. It's not a blackberry but ****tt, it's close enough.

Besides that i think that the note has a very good GPS reception! not like my old optimus speed...

Never managed to lock during flight with my Atrix. I believe due to lack of internet connection.
Perhaps the barometer fixes that...
Cool! Which application is that?
I would suggest next time to use OpenGPS. You can record the whole travel and then replay it in Google earth via KML export/email It doesn't require internet access for recording (though the display of the map will be gray)

I used GPS essentials. I could have recorded using My Tracks or open GPS.
During the flight I was so amazed with it, looking at the climb (altitude change), speed and direction change of the aircraft that I forgot everything else

Power? This is Chuck Norris of phones!
My understanding is that commercial GPS chipsets are restricted to locks above 500 kph (or mph) by the US gubberment. Is it perhaps the GLOSNASS support that is allowing the high speed locking ?
I found the following on another forum talking about ITAR limits that I cannot post a link too as I be a noob:
"Many GPS receivers are restricted in dynamics for military
reasons--dynamics not exceeding--
Dynamics:
Acceleration 4g (39.2 m/s^2)
Motional Jerk 20 m/s^3
Operational limits
Altitude < 18,000 m or velocity < 515 m/s
Either limit may be exceeded but not both (in non-military GPS
receivers).
These restrictions do not apply to the Space Shuttle or LEO satellites
making use of GPS signals. You can always build your own receiver
without restrictions of any kind."
my xperia ARC locked on a flight to HK, it took about 5 mins of holding it to the window but it did lock.
I read somewhere that Glonass satellites are numbered between 45 and 65. Didn't check it during this flight, will see next time what satellites are used in fix.
