Hey all, I've been running the Droid bluetopia so long that I am rusty on posting but please forgive. Yesterday while transferring files to my phone I accidentally accessed my Linda food manager while my phone was on disk drive with my pc. I reported it thinking it was a quick fix but ky phone now says mounted card read only. I can still boot into Android from my winmo but my Sd its unrecognizable on my pc when I connect and I can't save anything...any insight. T-mobile hd2

Hi!
I'm using HD2Froyo V3 on my HD2 and have a little problem. When I copy files from my pc to the sdcard on the phone, they dont show up when browsing with the "in-phone" file manager. My question is, why not?
Just to make it clear:
I connect the phone to the pc with the USB cable.
The SD card shows up.
I can copy files to it, make new folders in it, no problem.
But when i disconnect the phone, and browse around on the sd card, nothing the ive edited with my computer is there.
restart phone
Awesome, thanks alot!

Hi everyone, I'm getting a "SD card read only" error. It also says " card has an unexpected error". It's very strange because I've been using this card for over 1.5 years in my blackberry and worked without a glitch. Also tapping on the notification seems to remount the card. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Most likely you'll need to scan & fix errors and or format again to fat32. Do it mounted to pc or put SDcard in memory card reader.

Its a common problem. Ive had it happen a few times now, think adding corrupted video or mp3 files causes it. Thankfully its an easy fix.
As upintheair said, scan and fix errors. If your comp recoginises the sd card when you plug the phone in, you can just right click on the drive - Tools tab - Check now, tick both boxes. This will fix the problem but it will happen again unless you remove the problem file.
If the SD isnt recognised when you plug your phone in, put the sd card in a usb card reader and do the same (they are pennies from ebay or electrical shops)
Another advice I can give is to "safely remove" the SD card, after you're done working with it in windows.
Assume you connect your phone to your Windows PC in harddisk mode.
After you've changed the files on your SD card, locate the "Safely Remove Hardware" button in the Windows task bar, left to the clock.
Click on it and select your Android Phone. This will safely unmount the phone from the Windows OS, thus preventing data corruption on the SD card.
First of all thnx for the help ...I did the scan&fix errors and there were some errors that got fixed. As I understood from the report the errors were due to corrupted files so my conclusion is that I should've "safely removed" the card. I usually just select the "charge only" mode from the phone after I am done with the "disk drive" mode and only then unplug from pc. So, is this behaviour wrong? Should I just select "safely remove" from pc and then just unplug?

Do both won't kill you. First switch to charge only mode from disk drive mode on your DHD, then do also a Safely Remove Hardware from your PC.

You have either an inspire or DHD, which is it? If I understand correctly you have tried several different sd cards and none work!? Sounds like a hardware issue then and my advice would be return it for a warranty repair.

You can enable USB Debugging, get the proper drivers installed, and use Droid Explorer, that is what I do.

Thanks for that information - yesterday I downloaded the drivers that were supposed to help with this but I still do not see the external from the pc.
What is droid explorer that you mention?
Thanks

Droid Explorer.
From what I've read, this is a honeycomb issue I've tried everything and can't see my external sd card on my pc. I've tried multiple programs that claim to work, but haven't found any yet.
I can't install droidexplorer on my computer, if errors out because of 64bit. I made the changes in the registry that are suggested with no luck.

I know that this is probably covered in another thread but, since it was mentioned in my resolution, I am curious the benefit to rooting?
Is it worth it for an average user?
Seeing external SD card
bweave - I am repeating what I have said in the "lost files from my sd card" thread, but here goes. I use the old fashioned method of mounting my sd card in a r/w card gizmo (I use a cheapo Wal**** Targus card reader writer) I attach this to my desktop via usb and then can see the card as a mass storage unit in Win 7. I can then delete files or add music/pictures/movies and when done I put the card back in my a500 where I can then see and display the files perfectly. I do realise that this is not the most tech savvy way of doing it but it works and touch wood I have never lost or corrupted a single file. In the other forum thread several people were continually losing files from the sd card. Now if you are talking about external usb hard drives and not just the sd card then I can recommend the app "USB Mount All v1.3" from the Marketplace with this you can see and mount/unmount all external sources - cards, thumb drives and hard drives. Hope my two penneth worth might be of assistance.
Sorry bweave forgot to mention if you use USB Mount All you will need to be rooted

I'd rtaher go and buy a microsd reader for my computer then root the tablet.. $4.05 with zero risk of bricking anything.
I tried transfering a few files to my SD card through USB cable plugged into a HD2 on AmeriCan android. In Win7, the files are copied successfully but in ES explorer, the files aren't showing.
I tried plugging the phone to the computer again and I see the files I copied over in Win7. Tried unmounting and mounting the SD card to no avail.
Is there something I did wrong or missed? Sorry 3rd day using Android (and seriously considering it as my main OS) so I'm a major noob.
Thank you!

I am not familiar with that particular Rom but there are some other Rom's that have a glitch and the file will only show up once you have rebooted the phone. Try this and see what happens...
It's common on a few roms, just pop you SD into your pc

there are apps like media rescan, that offer scanning media after you transfer the files. this is also available in SwitchPro widget, power control plus, and probably in some other tools I don't know about.
Installed ZIPS Creamed Glacier V3.11 on MT4G.
Almost everything is working, so happy with ROM and recent enhancements. Thank you.
While connecting the phone to Windows 7 machine via USB, phone shows “USB Connected as an Installer”. It further provides choice of MTP/PTP. Phone SD card does NOT show as drive on Windows machine.
What do I need to do in order to access SD Card from Windows 7? I wanted to copy the nandroid backups from SD card and copy new ROMs on the SD card.
Is there a way to go back to USB mass storage option?
Thanks
alternative till update
have you tried Droid Explorer? works quite well. will reonnize without a problem.
under the "connect to pc" option in settings, i had to uncheck the 'ask me first' option and select disk drive to get my computer to recognize my phone when using Roms without the Mass Storage app on them...i really wish it was on all roms..

Could not find connect to PC option on Creamed Glacier rom.
Droid Explorer works. It shows all the folders (systems too) from the phone. Just need to be more careful while using it.
Also found way to toggle USB under my recovery (EXT4).
Thank you all for your suggestions.

This is a known bug in 3.11. I think the fix is in here But if you wait a couple of days then the new release of Zips Creamed Glacier should fix this issue along with other issues.
what i did to transfer files onto sd card is use the android sdk
connected phone via USB opened the cmd prompt for sdk
and used adb push method
so when i wanted to install the low mic fix i;
copied the file to the platform tools folder then
adb push lowmicfix.zip sdcard/lowmicfix.zip
thats pretty much how im transferring files onto the sd card
zips said all these issues will be addressed in the next version
oh and if you wanted to copy something from your sd card to your computer look at the file from your file manager app to see the name then
use adb pull method
Or you can download an app to mount your usb.
If I helped, give thanks, if you please.
