how can i video chat? - Galaxy Tab 10.1 General

how do you video chat i just noticed that skype is only for calls and oovoo is not compatible...

I use the google talk app. IMO the video quality is better than Skype from my Macbook Pro. I've also heard that Gingerbread will support from a phone with front facing camera in a future update. Now the trick is just getting everyone I know to switch from Skype...

is oovoo going to release a version for honeycomb?

Anybody else notice low mic volume from the galaxy's end? Even when recording a video I can tell it's really quiet.

If Tango is available, might want to try it... You can video chat to all your punk iphone using friends! =)

Also used the Gtalk video and it works really pretty nicely. And is stupid user friendly

How was your mic volume level? I need to know to make sure it's not just my unit that's crazy quiet.

no man, but if my **** doesn't work or something i don't want my money wasted. ill send it back or get it fixed..
if u don't have any helpful info, then... <3 ( Y )
It's not just you. I think it's a problem for everybody. Except most people don't use the video recorder.
I would assume that the code just needs to be changed so the mic picks up the sound better since it works great for phone calls, but I don't think it's high/normal priority for the devs that are working hard here.
Meltus sound fixes seems to help quite a bit.

lol thanks, and no its prob not priority..they're more concerned with making copy roms of other devices, rather than overall making a flawless device
wow. if its such a big deal to you that the devs dont drop their projects and bow before your wishes, perhaps you oughtta find a new set of forums to troll.
or hey, since everyone elses roms suck so bad, perhaps you should make your own and blow our minds!
You know.. so far nothing has beat my Nokia S60 phones when it came to nighttime shots and video capture of storms.. always had a good pickup.
G1 may have a higher grade MP.. but shutter sucks. As for mic input, while the gain maybe increased, like a Motorola can with a seem edit. (Afterall the volume mods are out already) It would also cause people to hear you much louder if not distorted. Was a issue on motorolas too where it doesnt come through clear. My suggestion would be to use a headset with a good pickup mic if you plan to do videos with sound and need it to be clearer.

[Q] Skype video chat with Droid 2

I just tried searching the forum to see if Skype video chat is possible with a D2. I didn't have any success and I am sorry if this question has already been answered!
It looks like my phone has a front facing camera but when I log in to Skype, video chat is not an option. Is it possible?
Thanks for your help!

What he said. What you're thinking is a front facing camera is probably the ambient light sensor in the upper right hand corner.

The Skype app, contrary to what most people would obviously assume, does not feature any kind of video chatting/calling feature. You are also most likely confusing the notification LED with a front-facing camera.
There is a free app on the Market, though, that provides video chatting capability; it's called Tango. I've tried it several times, and while it's a bit awkward video chatting with cameras on the back of both phones, it still works well enough that I can both see and hear the person I'm calling. The only annoyance I've had with the app so far is the noticeable sound delay, and it has some mixed overall reviews, but it's the only video calling app that seems to be viable.
Tango works alright. Try using it while standing in front of a mirror and it works pretty well on D2

anyone willing to try the video chat with me?

I've been really anxious to try the video chat!
anyone willing to try it with me via fring or qik?
Qik- lesonal
fring- Atenkiang
I am willing to but will need your phone number. Can you email me at radaps at hotmail dot com. Also you will need to go to market.android.com and download the latest qik for atrix version 0.04.94
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.qik.motorola.android&feature=search_result
ill hit you up on Qik in an hour when i'm out of class
Please let us know how it worked...I am afraid that over 3G/"4G" the quality will be really bad due to disabled HSUPA upload speeds.
i couldn't get fring to use the front facing camera, only back. anybody find that setting to change it to ffc?

Tango crashes, doesn't work et all.
I used Qik earlier and the video was choppy and slow. FFC camera is very grainy. I don't know if it's just mine but it was definitely grainy. It displayed background color incorrectly. FFC being VGA camera so it is not very good quality. Anyone else have the same problem with grainy video?
Tango was the only one that worked with Nexus S
hopeuflly theyll fix it for atrix

I didn't try video chat with Qik, but I took few pics with FFC & they all came out grainy. FFC is low resolution VGA camera so we can't expect much from it.

microphone quality

What is the quality of the built in microphone and using it with google voice to text? The reason I am asking is that I currently have an acer A500 and the voice to text does not work very well.
Certain easy words or phrases it picks up fine, but others it just mangles bad no matter how clearly you try to speak.
How does the voice to text work for you?

did you try to record and listen to your voice? on TF it's awful, incomprehensive. it's sabotage!
Put a video on Youtube to show the result
I've never tried google voice-to-text. However, google voice search works pretty well on the TF101. While the quality of the microphone is relevant to voice recognition results, a perfectly good microphone could yield crap for voice recognition because of the voice recognition software that's processing it. The microphone on the TF101 is good enough for voice - whether that yields good voice recognition is another story.
Bye.

Just now, on google search I tried 4 sentences with integrated microphone and the same four with headset microphone :
integrated microphone recognizes one word or two
Headset microphone recognizes every single word.
try to record yourself with headset and without. You'll see the difference.
just purchased the TF a few days ago. And jeeeeeeeeez this internal mic is awful.... it makes recording any video or type of audio pointless. I'm not sure how Asus could put such a crap mic into a 500$ unit..

You're right it's a big crap! shame on ASUS. but look how few people are interested about that.
but look, not only recording is awful. People don't understand you on Skype or Gtalk.
as I mentioned it before, a good microphone wouldn't raise Transformer's price significantly.
So I repeat : SHAME ON ASUS!
It seriously is a ****ty mic, but fortunately, I don't need it.. yet.
+1
I agree wholeheartedly. The mic sucks on TF101. I used my tab to video my rc helicopter flight in the living room and either got hardly any audio or audio with a high pitched whine. I paid $499 for this puppy. My $100 dollar camera does a better job. Heck the mic on my $79 dollar mp3 player works better.
I guess for short youtube or facebook video's I need to pick up a real video camera.
Yay! Another electronic gadget coming my way.
I find it works best if you're very close to the mic, like sharing the same pillow.
A decent phone is probably better, both for rear facing camera and mic.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
There is a way to improve the quality of the microphone? Even changing Roma have no real improvement?
the microphone is very poor. you notice that if you tap on the back of the tablet when recording it picks it up very loudly, but speaking into the microphone you can hardly hear anything.
video chat (gtalk seems to work best) is just about usable but you have to sit close and talk loud.
like the guy said, it wouldn't have cost a lot more to put in a better mic - i would have paid an extra £10 for something decent.
I tried to record a lecture with the microphone. Its so muffled and so bad that i was acutally amazed by how asus can market it to students. The camera is also of very bad quality.
What the f were they thinking....

Video sound quality - pretty bad

Hi all
Did not come across any threads about this yet, surprisingly!
I was recording video out in a nightclub, and was very disappointed to find that the music sounded horrible. Never had such problem on my HTC one when recording at concerts or clubs.
Here is the link of the video, I uploaded on youTube
http://youtu.be/SMpa7rumrHY
Otherwise, the OnePlus has been awesome so far!
Trance family, you listen to Markus Schulz? Love trance! Sucks about the sound, you on stock app?
Sound quality in general when it comes to recording nightclubs/gigs/concerts are pretty bad with the bass etc etc.
Not to mention "Turn It Up" is a song that involves a lot of bass and drops.
Try it in a closed atmosphere like at home and test the quality of the sound.
Ensure audio codec is AAC as well.

haha yeh man love markus Schulz! one of my fav trance DJs
yeh stock camera app, running 33R stock and Franco 20 kernel.
I noticed this as well. I really doesn't take a lot to distort the audio with OPO (and surprisingly when I had my Samsung Note 2 and ran a CM based rom I had this problem as well, using stock samsung camera / rom not a problem).
Not sure if this is phone related or just the camera app/rom combo.
I do have a sub in my car but I have recorded clearly with my old Note 2 but OPO it distorts like a mofo. It's quite embarrassing.

Damm thats a bad mic...it sounds horrible
I wanted to make the switch from the m7 too,but i do record sometimes at concerts and clubs...And the htc m7 does this perfect.
So this is a no go for me this oneplus one,A pitty):
The early m7s had dual membrane mics specifically for recording in very loud concert environments. Some supply issue came up with the manufacturer and they had to stop supplying to htc because of nokia.

Yep I remember that when the M7 came out, it was a bit of a fuss!
Ah familiar issue.
Went to a party last week and recorded some videos, as soon as the bass drops you only hear crackling noises on the video.
Friend recorded with his iphone and the recorded audio sounded a LOT better.
I also tried to cover the microphone to see if that helped but it made no difference.
Known Bug
That's a known issue.
Have a look at the Cyanogenmod JIRA Ticket No. BACON-64
If you are registered there, please give it a vote, so it will soon be fixed.
has anybody found a fix for this? will changing to a different rom solve the problem? cyanogen just dont wanna fix this problem. its been a reported bug for ages now. even before the OPO.
I m also facing the same problem, please let us know if anyone find a fix
Sent from my A0001 using XDA Free mobile app
This problem can be fixed with the Boeffla-Kernel for OPO, but they need the technical documentaion of the "WDC9320" audio codec.

Does somebody know whether it for it already a solution has given?
Found this on the OP forums
Code:
https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/audio-clipping-in-loud-environments.108129/
:
"So ive tried heaps of things to try and fix this bug, one thing that may have worked is downloading this free app from the app store
Code:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.grace.microphone&hl=en
and setting mic gain to 0. i have done this and the audio quality has increased 100% and is comparable with the iphone."
Most likely a ****ty mic on the oneplus, nothing to do with the software.
HTC one uses unlicensed mic from Nokia, which is far superior.
Bump
Does anyone know whether this bug is present in Oxygen OS or not?
