[Q] stable rom with tun.ko - XPERIA X8 General

are there any stable rom which has a tun.ko included in it??

ouch! no answers yet..

What the hell is that?

Hi codfreak
that is the driver for tun devs, that is used for VPN. I guess a ROM or a tun.ko compiled for the original 2.1 should be enough.
I'm also quite interested, any answer?
Many thanks

i'm currently using kuyadroid by kuyagaol. it has a tun.ko file included

Hi
Many thanks I finally found one in the xCyanogenShakira - gingerbread - v3 mod:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044876
just downloaded the mod, went to /system/lib/modules and copy the file in my X8. Tweak the settings in the "openVPN settings" to use insmod and look for the tun.ko in the appropiate folder and that's all.
A little bit slow to be honest but at least it works
rgds

actually you can use it in any ROM. I think you are looking for tun.ko that works in x8. Attached is the file your looking for. Just put it in /system/lib/modules

Hi deedii
Many thanks, it looks like the very same file (at least in size!)
Are you using it with FroyoBread? I'm thinking about using Froyo instead of the original ROM......
Thanks again

Yup im using it. It works in any rom.

Hey,
I am on gingerdx 0.13 and it was already in /system/lib/modules/tun.ko by default installation.
Should be already correctly installed?
Because...

OpenVPN?

Has anyone found a way to install openVPN on the aria (and get it working)? I have looked around but haven't found anything that I can get working.

I can confirm that it is working perfectly on the CM6-RC0 FroYo ROM using the "OpenVPN Settings" app from the market. I've not been able to get it installed much less working on any of the Liberated ROMs. CM6 has kernel support for openvpn and I'm wondering if that's what we need for Liberated, a modified kernel that supports openvpn.
Hey Attn1 any ideas? I bow (humbley) to the Aria ROM master...

Yep... Got it working... I was going to wait for an official Froyo ROM, but I decided to flash CM6. I also had to install OpenVPN settings to get it to install my certificates, etc. Works great! And all this was after my work tech support guy told me it wasn't possible to do VPN from my phone and that the servers would immediately kick it off the network.
Also, as a side note. CM6 is pretty cool! I don't know why I was waiting.
As far as getting it to work on 2.1 (I am a noob but did a lot of research). You need a the tun.ko driver and the OpenVPN bianary. I found the tun.ko for the aria, but couldn't get it to push through adb. I kept getting a "not enough memory" error. I've never been able to push to the system folder (yes I had root) with adb on the stock rom. Not sure why. CM6 solves that problem!
Also, installed TightVNC on my home laptop and AndroindVNC viewer on my phone (both free) and now I have remote desktop!
I wonder if I will get in Trouble for installing it on my work computer???

Can you share what tun.ko you tried for 2.1? And you can push it when in recovery mode and mount system partition.
I was able to set up OpenVPN on Cyanogenmod but like liberated better.
Thanks.

[Q] nls_utf8.ko for CIFS on HD2 Android?

I was trying to work out CIFSManager for my HD2, following these instructions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=7694884#post7694884
Everything works fine and i was able to mount my drives and all, but then I couldn't read my chinese characters.
The Q&A suggested the use of nls_utf8.ko, but then i've tried to load (using insmod in gscript) many different nls_utf8.ko modules found online and non of them worked...
any help would be appreciated =)
I have problem too. my workaround is just temporary copy and rename the files your need =P
have problem too!
Bump.

if you managed how to do it - please share
thanks in advance
Edit:
I just mounted samba share via wifi on MCCM SE v3.3 + hastarin 8.4 kernel using cifsmanager. RockPlayer plays movie but there are no str subtitles. But it is a progress .

[DEV] Hyperterminal to run via USB to Serial cable.

I am after ahyperterminal like program to run via USB to serial cable. It may exist already or if some one is interested in developing just let me know and we can talk.

would also love this.
+1 for this idea.
This would be sick! But is the [App] flag appropriate?
Yeah not to sure about the app flag thing, i am a bit of a noob, so wasnt sure what to put.
I got my USB Serial Device working yesterday.
I use screen as terminal emulation. I posted a short howto on http://www.slatedroid.com/topic/19724-serial-terminal-app/page__view__findpost__p__215393
If you get you usb->tty device working with your kernel this should work your device too.
sounds like an opportunity for someone to make an APK/driver with...
Hopefully it wont get flagged to the app section since it is development related, but back on this topic, It would be awesome to be able to do that, I have a few usb -> serial adapters that could be used
Thanks derpeter. Will give that a go.
Should I change the tag to [DEV]?

Yes, change tag to DEV and this thread could stay here but it will should have something related to development , if it will become another useless chat plenty of crap, trolls and flaming posts I will move /close immediately.

Where did you install 1.19? The busybox installer app from the market installs it but it still does not have microcom in it. /system/xbin/busybox microcom gives me a "applet not found" error
Update: Ignore this, apparently the following busybox installer's v1.19 has microcom:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.jrummy.busybox.installer
Thanks again.

Does it have usb-serial drivers in it to connect a usb to rs232 converter? I think module name should be something like ftdi_sio.ko

2.1 with tun.ko support

i've flipped these forums upside down and i haven't found a working 2.1 rom with tun.ko support. can anybody point me in the right direction?

Try this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1038337
Not all of them have tun.ko module, but you can copy it to system/lib/modules in any Miroslav_mm's 2.1 version and it will work. If you can't find the one that has tun.ko send me a PM. But I would strongly recommend Miroslav_mm's 2.2 ROM, Utopia RC3, instead of 2.1. Cheers...
EDIT: Download and install Gold Edition FINAL: http://fileshare.in.ua/4402905, then download http://4pda.ru/forum/dl/post/949502/kernel_MMXTREM_batlife_simple.zip, find and copy tun.ko module to system\lib\modules with Root Explorer.
thanks for the reply. is there a version of this without the theme? i like it but i wanted something cleaner. i have utopia rc3 and have used it but i just am more comfortable on 2.1.

[Q] V6 Superscript issues with CM9 and Defy?

Hi, I'm trying to SuperCharge my phone but seems that values just don't stick on my Defy. I'm currently running CM9 -> Quarx 20120522 but v6 just can't load the proper values on boot.

Yep, did all the su replacement + service.jar patching... It's tells me to read the owner's guide in case that prefs didn't stick, it says that I should check init.d but all seems to be in order... :S

Strange because for me its working. Are you using the latest script ? I know that the older one had similar problems on ics.

Yes, I´m using the latest stable one. It's very odd, as it worked on my last ROM update.
I had the same problems. I had to use zeppelinrox's su update and busybox fix. After that I supercharged it twice and it stuck.

I applied the su update but I have no idea what you mean with busybox fix... that may be the reason, where can I find some info about it?
Its wraithdu busybox its on the main downloads page for v6 supercharger. Just use the script to replace 1.20 busybox cm9 with 1.94 wraithdu busybox.
RC9 Test-12 reports Busybox on CM9 as incomplete.
the link in V6 OP is given for Busybox 1.94, It should work fine,
Test-12 even detects ICS launcher and does the services.jar fix by itself..

Weird. What's your launcher ?
i feel as if supecharging barely makes a difference on quarx cm9 roms. in fact, the device seemed more sluggish when i was using it.
