I have been reading the thread in the Dev forum about using a USB modem dongle on the A500. I have a novatel u760 usb modem for Verizon and was wondering if anyone has had any luck getting it to work in Dexter's 3.1 rom? I have been trying to get it working with no luck I think, it maybe a kernel driver problem. If anyone could help it would be much appreciated Thanks.
Well I have been able to turn off the mass storage and set the modem to zerocd using the Verizon software. When I plug it in the green light comes on but it still will not find a network? I will keep trying and update this post of I am able to get it working.
it looks like this isn't going to work unless someone can create a kernel module for this modem I wish I could do more but I don't have a lot of experience with Linux.
Willing to donate to someone that can help get this working
I have the Novatel Ovation mc547 usb Modem that I would like to use as well.
Problem is I am completely clueless on this topic.
OK, I have a Novatel MC760 from Virgin Mobile that I would like to use but I am so new to this stuff (Just ordered my first Android device) I dont know what to do.
Novatel MC760 USB modem?
Would the information in the following link be useful to a developer?

Tried to accomplished the same thing. Lots of fustration. Opted for the Zoom 3G Travel Wireless router instead. Works perfectly. The USB760 connects to the VZ network. You then share that via WiFi to other devices. Battery powered.

Hey all, FINALLY aNetshare is working, nice lil app. Im used to having my cell phones be able to be used as a modem. Having the G1 work as a wireless router tho.. is one step up. It ran good enough to play Final Fantasy XI, so thats a good test for me right there. However it is a slight more sluggish then my Nokia 6630 (S60 phones) and my Moto Razr when it was plugged in via cable.
Was wondering, anyone have some optimize tips to make the Wifi router or the PC utilize this connection and speed it up some? Im not in a 3G area, so always been using EDGE speed, but as I said, my other phones were a "slight" bit faster being used as a modem vs a router. Thanks. =)
wifi will be slower than the USB cable, this is due to sending the signal over cable vs transmitting over air. There wont be anyway to make this faster, however try using pdanet it works perfectly for me.
pdanet Ill look into, is it better then anetshare?
Also G1 doesnt have a USB cable modem way to hook up does it? Also when I used bluetooth on my Nokia 6630, the speed actually wasnt too bad. The Moto Razr worked well too via USB however it did freeze up the phone once and awhile. (Luckily I had my phone flash/flexed to work better then OEM)
Edit: Ok I just found it, I see pdanet IS usb based. Cool, Can this work seperate from the wireless one? Or is it bad to have both installed at the same time?
You can have both installed at the same time.
I am trying to download the PDA Net and my phone is rooted. I cannot get the driver installed properly in Device Manager. I am running XP Home. I have tried everything to get this tethering application. I just got the new Cupcake download. Do you think T-mobile put something in that download to prevent me from being able to load the PDAnet program?
Which driver? The one that you would use for fastboot and adb commands or the standard ones?
does someone please know if we can connect our HD2 to the internet using pc (like we do with winmo), conect usb cable to phone and computer(wich has internet connection) and then go to internet on phone witout any takeing money from phone.
please help if someone knows how
i searched it on forum but didnt find any useful advice
tnx
You have to watch in the developement threads. There are some builds where this feature works. Just have a look.
Would be very useful.
Yes I've been interested in finding this out too as at work I only have USB connectivity not wifi available to me but our work network is blazingly fast and since 3G is soo unreliable for me on Android I'd like to take advantage my work pc's internet connection. It was very handy having this feature on Winmo.
It'd be great if there was an App that did this! If anyone knows of an App or a build can you let us know. Thanks. I'll certainly be keeping an eye out for this feature.
EDIT: did some searching and I found this article about reverse usb tethering on Android, don't know if it will be of any use http://blog.mycila.com/2010/06/reverse-usb-tethering-with-android-22.html
mdeejay 3.3a (desireHD) build has reverse usb tethering built-in. Try it and provide feedback please. (you may need to install htc sync software to pc, I am not sure)

this thread above gives us a method to go to internet with 3G usb modem dongle, but it isnt fit for A500, who can modify it to fit for A500?
I'm also very interested in this. There are a couple threads mentioning this, but I haven't figured out how to get it to work yet. I have a USB760 (Novatel) from Verizon that I 'think' would work. The dev's here are the best, so I'm guessing if it can be done, they'll figure it out.
In the meantime, I'm tethering to my phone in adhoc mode via a new wpa_supplicant and that's working really well. but.....it would be nice to have another option with my USB.
Hi,
I'm not sure whether it's good thing to open one thread related to two problems but I haven't got better idea how to put it.
Main problem:
Since I have acquired my GT540 I'm still searching for the solution for reverse tethering. My operator doesn't have decent data plan, quite often I'm out of any wifi range and currently I'm completely out of wireless.
So I'm left with workable USB connection and Bluetooth. Which leads us to...
Secondary problem:
I found this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=835912 and solution proposed there is quite feasible to me as usbnet still seems to be song of the future and I'm using Linux on the host PC anyway. But when I tried to implement it, I learned that PPP is not enabled in my kernel, which understandably derailed my plan. I use CM7 by Mur4ik.
The question then is, can I somehow painlessly enable this PPP support?
Or could someone politely nudge Mur4ik to enable it in the next release of SwiftDroid? (I don't have sufficient rights to post in devel forum myself)
Or, is there another, working way of getting net access for my phone?
Cheers.
So, you don't have Wireless Adapter or WiFi to put on your desktop and share the internet?
I have tested to share the PC internet connection via USB to GT540 and i never did it...
I bought a WiFi AP and now I use the GT540 with Wireless on my entire house, i think its better than USB.
As I mentioned, sometimes I have wireless access but recently I'm stuck without. Besides, in this most recent cm7-m6 adhoc networking doesn't work either.
Yes, I think too that having wifi coverage in home is nice but the problem I stated is what to do WHEN you don't have it.
I have a Xoom Wi-Fi which is gradually becoming more and more useful for me when travelling. I now find that I use my work laptop on the train less than ever. The only thing I miss is web access.
I have a business Orange mobile internet account using a ZTE MF363 USB modem.
Is there anyway that I can get this to work with my Xoom.
If so what software and cable do Ineed?
i read somewhere before in xda that huawei modem can. but i tried with no hope.
i hope dev from xoom makes this happen because i need it too. i tried the launchpad kernel with usbwwan but with no success.
i already try using usb_modeswitch from to switch the dev to zerocd mode and
able to mount too ttyUSB0 and so on.
but i unable to connect using pppd.
i don't know what i am doing wrong
is there anybody that could makes this happen.
i am using CDMA base modem.(huawei exactly)
i dont know what i am lost there.
