DELETE ME! - Nexus S General

System update?! I'm on 2.3.4 but apparently on getting an OTA. We'll see what happens.

Keep us posted.

If this real and it improves signal that would be amazing. I'm teetering on the edge of changing phones...
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk

I feel stupid. Sorry guys! This was just the update from the previous OTA, GRJ06D.
I GOT SO EXCITED TOO!

Why would you get a notification to downgrade?
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk

he may have just gotten his phone and it may have come with the previous build version...When I got my Nexus S 4G a week or so ago, I bought it out of contract from someone that won it in a raffle...well that turned into a non updated phone and immediately had an ota that day.

Is it possible to downgrade? I heard on the non 4g s that they had better signal before the upgrade

OTA 2.3.4 and an unlocked Samsung Nexus S 4G

I just got an unlocked Nexus S 4G for a friend who is visiting overseas. It arrived yesterday running 2.3.3 and it messages him that he had a system update available. Before I could stop him, he updated it. Did that mess up the 'carrier unlock'? How can I tell if it will still be unlocked when he gets home (Costa Rica) and if it isn't, what do I do to fix it before he leaves?
Thanks for your help and sorry if this has been covered....I am usually good to 'search before posting' but that isn't as easy on a 4 inch screen w Tapatalk!
Sent from my ADR6350 using Tapatalk
That wouldn't be the Nexus S 4G. The Nexus S 4G is a Sprint phone, not a world GSM phone.
Anyway, it really shouldn't. The Nexus is really easy to hack.

ICS on Nexus S

What are the stages where this is at right now? Fully usable? Still Alpha? I currently have a Galaxy S2 and love it, but it is big and I really want ICS. Is ICS helping with battery life at all? What are people experiencing performance/battery wise? Things like data speeds? Is image quality any better on the device?
Thanks!
Another ICS thread? Ever thought about joining one of the other 10 threads on this subject and actually read what others have been already saying about it.

The ICS dev threads have hundreds, if not thousands of posts. Makes it hard to find information. I don't currently have the phone so it makes it hard for me.
Real simple is to jump to the end of a ics dev thread and read the posts backwards. You will see the most recent info. In short the rom I am running is very smooth, few things need tinkering with to get them working, no 4g but that is expected with a non nexus 4g source. I will also say that after using a ics rom as a daily driver since last weekend the rest of the world who are waiting on ics for their device will not be disappointed when it finally gets there. As far as the battery life goes I have had the best daily usage out of my nexus as ever, true story.

My home screen for a taste. Taken with the built in screen shot per google.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk
When everyone says 4G, they mean Sprint, right? I have T-Mo so would HSPA+ work?
well there are roms being developed for all variants of the nexus s. But yes I have the nexus s 4g on sprint.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk
I'm not sure about hspa+, isn't that just t-mobiles way of saying 4g? Like lte and wimax? If so then I doubt the ability to connect to it works without the official sources being released by google yet.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk
There are a few daily use status versions out now IMO

Answer
Excuse all the thread police. Apparently some on here have OCD and treat the threads like their personal panty drawr (nice and neat). But to answer your question: ICS is pretty far along on the device, battery is better than ginger, performance has the potential to be better when source drops (right now it's faster sometimes and slower at others), data speeds are about the same, and image is great. In all, the ports we have are daily drivers for MANY, including myself. Although most of the bugs seem to have been ironed out, I can see there is still a lot of potential. Our DEVS are pretty gangster so we will surely see much more progression.
I agree but keep in mind that Ginger was developed fromour phones CPU. Hummingbird. In which why if runs so fluid. Ics is for the what's ever in the galaxy nexus. No other phone will run ics smoother than the gn as no other phone had ever beaten this on Ginger.
My point is that we need source code so we can make a ron with other elements intwined to the framework. Show me how to sign a Tom and I'll. Dev the crap out of it
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk
I'm using Brainmaster's V2 and it's a daily for sure. I haven't updated because I use A2DP a lot, and the newer versions built off of Koush's rom lose that.

yes most of the roms on ICS for i9020/23 (3G) are lying.
seems like ALL of the 4G Nexus S is working. I found an updated radio image i9020xxki1, but i didn't have the guts to flash it to see if it works.

Where is my 3.2.6 update at?

I see numerous threads about people getting the ota 3.2.6 but was wondering why I yet to see it, I know what it is and is no big deal but I would still like to be able to install it without boot loading it no ICS but at least let me have this update any ideas I'm currently not rooted because I'm eagarly waiting for stock ICS I know I should get team EOS version blah!! Any ideas??
It rolls out to devices gradually, not all at once. If you don't have it yet, just hang tight. You'll get it soon as long as you have a US Verizon LTE Xoom (MZ602). All it does is fix an issue with data connectivity when coming out of airplane mode and it includes a new CDMA radio. Hardly Earth shattering!

Awesome did you expierence the base and was missing after the update until reboot it again it scared me
Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk
The baseband being missing was kinda scary. Thought it was booked but rebooting fixed that. Otherwise nothing seems to stand out with this update so far.

I had the same baseband issue. All that this update has is a new CDMA radio and a fix for the data connectivity issue when coming out of airplane mode.

How is the battery life with the new radio and update leak?
I'm actually thinking about flashing back to ke1. This new one and the previous seemed to get worse reception in my area. Ymmv depending on where you live...
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk
Laying on my couch i previously got 2 bars. I see no difference so far in the 2 hours i have had it flashed. I like being updated though since i assume something was changed for the better. I'm running cm7.2.
While my signal has not increased, I will say my 3g speed has almost doubled on a consistent basis.
Running crossbones 2.5

I thought it was just a coincidence or a setting but I have been using the new radio for 2 days and checking my 3g speeds diligently and I too have had speed gains. Getting the highest download speedtest scores I have on my device in my area.
Upload speed is about 1/2 of what it was (who cares? Not me.)
I hope it sticks and is not just a fluke.

I seem to have better reception and faster 3g as well. My battery life also appears to have increased. This radio is way better than the radio in the previous leak. I'm in Houston by the way so I guess it depends on where u live.

I had very poor reception (even wifi) with the latest radio and a prl/profile update. Reverted back to KL2 today and all is well.

Okay after a little more observation speeds are about the same I have run the speed test periodically throughout the days I've had the new radio and it seems like my high speeds are coming from low traffic in the early hours of the morning I am still trying to figure it out.

Yeah I'm getting the same mixed bag :/ I'm getting much more reliable data speeds but that's it, and I'm not sure that the 4.0.4 leak isn't half the reason for it. I'm in a backwoods area on the edge of Sprint's coverage and on KE1 I could make phone calls no problem, with a few dropped calls here and there. With this new one I can't make calls unless I step outside... Data speeds are more stable and texting seems more reliable but I can't make phone calls worth $&%#... In town and at work it seems much nicer, but then I think some credit has to go to the official 4.0.4 as well, not the radio.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk
I'm seeing faster 3g, don't have 4G in my area to compare. Reception seems the same.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk 2 Beta-5
Oh and that's compared to KE5, which was the better working radio for me previously.

Looks like they are fixing Split SMS.

Like a fool, I reverted back to stock ICS in preparation for this update!
