Any way to enable Quick Controls in browser? - Galaxy Tab 10.1 General

My Transformer had a labs option in the browser to enable quick controls but my Tab is missing the option. Is there a way to enable that? I loved that feature.

Me too i have no idea how or why its not included here.

No. It was on the Xoom as well.
I wish Samsung included it too.. It was my favorite feature on the stock browser. I especially like the added function that 3.1 brought to it with the outer ring of controls... I may have to go back to dolphin HD for now because I hate having to scroll all the way back to the top of the page to hit my bookmarks and I hate having 1/8 of the screen taken up with the address bar/tabs all the time.

Would it be possible to pull a Browser.apk from a different tablet and put it on the Tab? (Maybe modify it so it doesn't conflict with the Tab's stock browser too, since we don't have root yet)

Terrible bug. It does work in portrait mode but not in landscape.

Really? Well I guess they fixed the bug by leaving out the lab option. I'm using the 10.1v myself and for the 10.1v there's a lab option.

so why's the "google experience" so different between the different tablets?
xoom won't allow you change the ua without getting into debug. tf has the ua string via advanced settings, but won't allow as many options in the ua string, even in debug. the gt10.1 takes lab out, leaves out the scroll bar but is the only one i've used that can actually back page from a flash video site correctly. the others you need to press 6-8 times to go back a page.
in the debug settings i've turned on tracing on the gt10.1 and i can now get selected link hightlighting. it doesn't work on the tf. dunno about the xoom since i've turned it back in a while ago.

Consider this a thread revival.
I just learned about Quick Controls for the Honeycomb Browser, and I'm a little upset about not being able to utilize this feature on my $600 tablet. Any updates anywhere on if there is a way to get QC?

I don't know what this quick controls is? Can someone help me understand? I have the new TW update and want to see if it is included.
Thanks

Browser quick controls now available
Labs is now an option and quick controls for browser is available after touch wiz update. Very nice!

So I wasn't a fan of the new browser tabs design in TW and enabled this feature in labs - think it might be great tbh - certainly gives more screen realestate to the webpage itself, which is always nice - I do kinda miss being able to see, at a glance, what tabs are loaded though....

Samsung introducing TouchWiz - Multi-Window Multitasking

Samsung is Introducing its TouchWiz 4.0 UI to Honeycomb, nothing Really Interesting you will think, but watch this:
2 Interesting Points here:
1:36 - Scrollable Settings Menu with more Toggles - Do Want.
3:00 - "Mini Apps" as Apps you can Toggle over any other App - This is actually a Cool step to Multi-Window Multitasking and i think its Extremely Useful
The rest of the Video is Garbage, but these two Things - I really hope our Modders will port this to our Xooms or it will be introduced as a Honeycomb 3.2 or later Feature.
What do you think?
€: Youtube Embed Why u no Work?
€²: Ha, working. But now i wonder if this is actually interesting

The mini apps does look cool but I have a feeling there will not be any widespread development support for it. We will have to wait and see.
They have some nice ideas in there but they really made the OS look "cartoonish". I wish they would leave the stock look and just add the extra features. That video was obviously sped up in some shots. The OS is fast but things like flash on a website don't play as smooth as the video showed. Overall the Galaxy guys are getting some features that may make us Xoom users a little jealous.

touchwiz ux has already been ported to the iconia and the transformer....... maybe a xoom port is neccesary? Might have to giver a go and see if I can force it to play nice with our xoom's
Seems much smoother than the Xoom interface.... Samsung are really putting effort into UI development, I'll give em that!
the 'mini-apps' can be done kind of similarly using an app called Wave Launcher. But there are issues with having the 'gesture' from the bottom of the screen. When I had it installed on the xoom.. it effectively rendered the center bottom of the screen useless. The wave launcher was hogging that area looking for input to start the mini app launcher and so any app that have buttons in the center bottom (like MoboPlayer) wouldn't work very well or at all. The app (mobo) worked fine.. but any buttons in the center bottom wouldn't work (wanted to clarify) due to Wave Launcher 'covering' them up.
It took me awhile to figure out it was Wave Launcher doing it... I thought my xoom was broken.
Anyways, just an FYI.
im gonna try and bring tw ux to the xoom, is anybody interested if I post it up here when I'm done?

I may be up for testing this if you can get it to boot. Hardware is close enough to the other models that have it ported. Bluetooth and wifi may be an issue.

Figured wifi and Bluetooth would be a problem. So it boots? Is it smooth or running choppy and is sound working? I didn't expect it to on first boot.
Sent from my Xoom using XDA Premium App
actually seems smoother than the xoom roms. I ported the full 10.1 rom. Sound works, though I'm on a wifi xoom, so I can't say anything about 3g operability. If and when I get wifi up I'll post it for people to try out.
OK, I will flash it as soon as you release it...
or you could share your work with the tiamat team, that would be even more awesome.
I'm on wifi only as well shoot me a link in a pm and I will take a stab at getting wifi going. Two heads are better than one lol.
Sent from my Xoom using XDA Premium App
I am also interested in this as well and would be willing to test. I have a 3g Xoom but could really care less about the 3g radio since I don't use it; I use my Xoom WiFi only.
would definitely try it out!
however i think it would be interesting to have these extra features ported over the Tiamat Rom. are you able to remove these extra features and place them in an existing rom/stock?

Still can't get wifi to work, and as an extra kick in the ass now the changes I made are causing a softbrick:-( but there are 2 other guys working on it too. And I'll have most of the day tomorrow to wrestle with this little bit*h and hopefully get her going. And crackmulah, that actually might be a good way if I can't get wifi to work that will be the way I go with it. I'm just trying for a "pure" port if possible

Touchwiz appreciation thread.

Is it just me, or is touchwiz on a tablet actually really nice :L
i know it slows the tab down, but the widgets icons and notification bar r really minimalist and generally not bad looking!
And the fact that stock touchwiz hc roms come with polaris office and a pen memo means that i dont really mind the occasional lag it has :L
Im also looking forward to the ics touchwiz build aswell.
Does anyone agree with me?

Yeah that's the thing though, a while I understand touchwiz on a phone is ugly. On a tablet its actually nice. :L they (samsung) havent done that much in terms of looks with tw, which is gd.
So yeah, bring on the trolls
I don't really see it. I have been using touching HC 3.2 for as long as I have the tablet. I just recently installed touchwiz-less ICS and now never want to go back to touching. I do not miss polarised office at all since it doesn't work with swiftkey tablet x, and ihave replaced pen memo with quill, which was only 20 cents. But I guess tastes are different...

Well, there are a few things I didn't like about TW:
1. Bright settings menu. The whole tab felt that it should have a dark theme and in most places it did. But then there was the settings menu that feels out of place.
2. The statusbar is annoying. I don't know how often I accidentally made a Screenshot when I didn't want to. Or brought up the pop up bar which contains alps I never use.

Honeycomb is a very good concept but a "beta version" software: slow, laggy, unstable and incomplete in several ways... I got my G.Tab 10.1 in January and 2 weeks later I flashed (and kept updated ever since) ICS KANG and loving it.
That said, I do like the added Samsung apps and functionality (on both my Note and my G.Tab 10.1) so as soon as it comes out I will flash Samsung's ICS update.
The Note is already great as it is on the latest LB1 Gingerbread ROM so I don't mind waiting a little more for ICS BUT I really can't wait to get Samsung's ICS ROM for the Tab 10.1 and pretty pissed off that they can't seem to be able to give a less vague date.
I hope they make it up to me by adding the split screen funcionality shown off on the Note 10.1 and a revamped note app which syncs across my Note's S Memo app and Outlook notes..
I think touchwiz on 3.X is amazing, really improves the experience. I cringe whenever I see the stock notification bar (I have to open it, hit settings and then hit settings again to actually open the settings compared to open it and hit settings once in touchwiz).
If touchwiz is that amazing, what's HTC sense? Sense is great on both phones and tabs. Look at the HTC jetstream, HTC did a much better job then Samsung.
I don't mind Touchwiz. I like some of the little extras, etc. Stock Honeycomb is still fugly so TW helps a tad, but since it's so light, not much. ICS is a huge improvement on phones, but not so much in tablets. It's bascially what Honeycomb should have been in the first place.
I'd rather have HTC Sense, but since HTC never had any good wifi tablets last year, it just wasn't in the cards. I will say, the GT 10.1 has been a good tablet and does everything I need it to do, but I won't be buying anymore Samsung products like.... um.... Ever. My next tab will be W8 and probably from Asus or something.
I have never liked HTC Sense at all, Touchwiz is a great compromise between adding functionality and staying as close as possible at the "Android experience" (which keeps on getting better and better). Ideally I would like to have a consistent experience across all Android devices with, at best, "touches" added by the different makers and design and hardware to differentiate among them. Sense goes totally against this.

New launcher (JB 4.2.1)

Regarding the new stock launcher in JB 4.2.1 (and beyond?)...
1) How do I now switch from the three CPU performance mode? (power saving/balanced/performance)
2) How do I quickly switch wifi, GPS etc on/off without having to go to the settings?
3) The new slim bar at the top, takes up extra space? We now have even less available screen space than before?
I feel slightly annoyed by Google's idea of progress... in similar fashion to the recent YouTube app updates, the philosophy seems to be: remove features and rearrange stuff.
What do you think?
(I've posted this in the WW 4.2.1 update thread, but I think it deserves its own thread. This is not about the 4.2.1 update in general, it's about the new stock launcher)

Thanks, I saw that option. But it is not a guarantee that it will be there ad infinitum. I wanted to make this post because maybe there is something I was missing in the new launcher.
i believe in 4.2.2 google added a long press functionality to the quick toggles to allow them to be turned on/off quickly. i know i have it on cm10.1 on my phone...
I used the new launcher for about 5 mins before reverting to the old one. I'm sorry, but it's just not practical for a tablet!
also, is it just me or is the multitasking ui kind of dumb?

I switched mine to the new launcher (after checking here that I would be able to revert).
I don't think I lasted even a minute. I actually said ew! out loud.
Did not like that the entire bottom is just the three soft buttons, and centered as well, so i can't reach it with my thumb (I use the tablet almost exclusively in landscape mode). There may be a way to change that, but I also didn't care for the time in the small font up top either.
I hope they never force us to use that launcher. I guess there's always Nova Launcher, which I use on my phone, but don't on the tablet.
Thanks,
Brian
The 4.2 tablet UI works really well on the N7, but doesn't feel quite right on the 10.1" tabs. I really like having the dock back though, and while I appreciate the 'four corners' approach to the Honeycomb UI, I prefer having everything within my thumbs' reach. If Google used an inverted phone shade in the lower right and the on-screen buttons in the lower left for the future tablet UI, I think we'd have a winner.
Even with Nova launcher you still get the same layout.

i actually like the idea of three buttons home back recent apps in the center, so i don't have to reach my hand to the left side, i also like that's there are 2 "notification centers" (one is the "real", the other is quick settings). but i don't like to have 2 bars on top and bottom, so i switched to the old style,
i guess i'll use the new style if they combine the 2 bars into one

Did anyone notice when using the 4.1 launcher (the older one), the UI is kind of too high on the screen? Hey guys
I really dig the Smart Scroll feature. I know it's kind of gimmicky but it's nice to not have to get my fingerprints on the screen for every little thing I do. Do you guys know which apps support this feature?
The only app I've noticed it working with is the default browser, and the default E-Mail.
It would be nice if we could get Smart Scroll support with Chrome and GMail, but I don't find anything wrong with the S4's e-mail/browser though. Are you guys using the Samsung browser and Email system so you can use the smart scroll, or are you just ignoring that feature entirely because of battery life?
Do you guys think there will be more apps coming with this feature being used?
I don't personally use the feature because I feel it's much easier to just scroll by fingers, but some people will sure find it usefull. As for the supporting apps, I guess the limited support is due to the fact that the feature is still new and was just introduced with this phone. By time developers can start implementing it in their apps, but I don't see that happening soon. It will take some time.

Ok thanks. That's pretty much what I thought but I'm pretty new to Android so I wanted to see. I'm still curious if any other apps besides E-mail/Internet use them. I'm surprised Flipboard doesn't. It would be cool if Flipboard was laid out like Windows phone with long news/feed blocks that you could scroll through... Man windows 8 phone w/ eye scroll would be pretty awesome come to think of it.
If your looking to set defaults for applications this may work.

I used it but ended up back on nova as i am comfortable with it and love the endless customizing.
I'm using it. Wont go back to TW anymore. I wish that there would be option to make folders in application list.

I was using Nova previously. Agree Nova is also superb. I have moved over to google experience as I have a nexus phone and like the fact basically consistent. I have been using android devices for years now but only used Nova a few months ago. Really impressive how it changes the feel / look of the tablet.
Googles launcher is free of course. I got the paid version of Nova...

But how?!
When I launch it the portrait view is the only one available and I don't know how to access the launcher settings
Thanks in advance ?
Hello guys,
I'm coming in from the Note Pro side and wanted to reflect the OP comments. The launcher is smooth as butter and as stated it's as though the GNL was made for the Galaxy Note lineup. I've noticed all S Pen functionalities are fully intact. The best of both worlds...multi Window SPen features with a PURE Google experience!!!

For me it is portrait when tab is horizontal, and vertical when held normally.
As you can see in this picture:

Have you turned off screen rotation by mistake?
Just access the normal Samsung setting screen (by tugging the top of the screen down with your finger) and it is the 4th option from the left. Make sure it is selected... Only thing I can. Think of. Bet you have unselected it by mistake.

Yes, if you put the icons on the bottom row, then it is a dock and doesn't move as you swipe between screens.
I've got the paid Nova Launcher as well. I've stuck with it on my S3, but I haven't gone back on the tablet yet. On the S3, I thought the icons were too big and there is zero customization. However, I've enjoyed the Google Now Launcher on the tablet more so than I thought I would.
If there was a Google Now widget that is always listening that I could use with Nova, I would go back. Heck, I might still go back after the novelty of "Ok Google" wears off.
I finally did it......GREAT LAUNCHER!!!
